Prince Vaethorion Prince Vaethorion DAY 2:

1. With proper tools and doctrine the woodcutters group with an elemental in tow (Each unit can produce 1 water elemental) did a great job of gathering wood for fire and possibly other applications. Cutting back much wood from the heart of the forest, they gain 8 units of common wood and 2 units of ancient wood. The ancient wood was of golden hue to it's bark and very strong of heartwood. Many monkeys and birds fled from where the axes cleared the way, and a new clearing would pop up where the tribe felled the stand of trees for their fires. The fire was constructed both to light and defend but also smoke the fish to preserve them. They would avoid spoilage, for now.

2. The lightly armored detachment went to discover a point of interest west along the river -- they did not get far from it before they saw it for what it was -- A giant tent of skins that half covered the land and half covered the water, A POTOTAM settlement, it seemed at least a dozen or so adult Hippo-giants called this shelter home, with seven-foot children hastily ushered inside the settlement, and a massive alpha Popotam with metal and stone weapons and regalia stormed into the shore of the territory between them:

Popotam2.jpg

"LEAVE hoohooman! No Trade! No friendship! You come in WAR, or you challenge us to SPORT!"

The thing was easily 14 feet tall, and full capable of destroying the unit of tribesmen with a single swing or bite.

"STAY AWAY FOREVER AND HAVE PEACE!"

The team, having found their point of interest, quickly fell back in the face of such posturing.
Discord Quest: Any tribe may attempt to approach the popotam, but it should be considered extremely dangerous and at your own risk.

3. The River group, larger than the others -- had great success continuing to capitalize on the spawning river fish, gaining 11 food. (smoking preserves fish) They also collected numerous beautiful shells, in particular clamshells with an almost mirror-like interior surface and a variety of beautiful micro-fossil anemone that had wild spiral and star patterns and seemed perfect for adornment and jewelry. Gain 2 units Beautiful Shells. In addition to catching fish points of interest were searched for -- and at one point at a bend in the river a "Blue hole" was discovered.
blue hole.jpg

This river feature suggested a deep depression or cave system below the surface of the river, of natural or unnatural origin. small, tide-lapped bits of terrain surrounded the hole in the riverbed, suggesting some kind of burrowing or explosive action long ago. The pressure in the blue hole was several times the pressure in the river due to currents and strange forces, and an odd ringing in the ears seemed to come upon the bravest of the River tribes divers who attempted to get a closer look. Something moved in the depths, the divers swore -- though none could relate any detail of shape or form...

4. A last unit, downriver from the blue hole, found the lairs of several families of giant river otters. Some as much as 6 feet long, they were covered in thick fur that made them highly desirable catches. gain 6 food and 4 units of water-furs. while tracking these beasts to their lairs proved well within the skills of the river tribe, elders feared that consistent hunting of them would lead to depleting them as a resource. Their flesh also seemed to spoil quickly, so it should be cooked and eaten quickly...

Heterological Heterological Day 2:

The Rion would cross the river -- almost at the falls. The surface was deceptively still with gently swaying water plants and lillypads -- but the center of the river was very deep and turbulent at the cliffs -- almost like a trap it was only when the full tribe was committed to crossing that the vice-like undercurrent captured the crossing Rion and threw them off the falls, almost all at once...

one unit of people were never seen again -- dashed on the rocks below or pulled deep beneath the depths under the falls, elder, child, and laborer alike were claimed by the drop over the waters edge. one unit of clay was lost in the water, while two other units were scattered along the ridges of the bay. (3 clay total)

Decision Point: Karcen Karcen and Eliasdagood Eliasdagood each find 1 unit of clay belonging to Heterological Heterological -- chieftains must decide whether to keep the clay or return it to the Rion Tribe.

The Entire tribe was swept beneath the falls and into a cave deep in the rock-face. Once dry and sheltered, the Rion gathered their belongings and Zian reasserted control. It was dark, but smoky fires were lit, with great difficulty, so that the tribe could see around them away from the small circle of light that streamed through the falls...

They saw the cave was full of crystal clear pools, some filled with different colored minerals and deposits. What truly drew their attention was a confrontation between two strange races:

standing in clumps surrounding a single enemy -- Ichthyids (fish people) carried crude coral weapons and turtle-shell shields to surround a single giant NERID -- A reptillian Mer-creature with a snake-like tail:

ICTHYID:
Icthyid.jpg

NERID: Nerid2.jpg

The Nerid gloated and waved it's magical staff and foci at the THOUGHT that the fishmen would attempt to take it down, the remains of one half-devoured Icthyid laying in the coils of it's tail... but the new arrival of the humans changed the atmosphere of the encounter -- "H-ELP... US!" barked and bubbled the Ithyids to the Zian and his warriors while the Nerid gave it's own telepathic soliloquy --

"Humans... Tribals... so long have the bones of your presence lay strewn it was only a matter of time before your kind would resurface. The fish-men are our Prey -- food of the Nerid -- you do not want our kind as enemies... Help me kill these beasts, or simply stand aside and watch... and we might be friends..."

DECISION POINT: Zian did not hesitate for long -- though his reasons were his own. He gestured with his weapons and his warriors charged the back of the Icthyid formation, taking them by surprise. in a few sweeps of the Nerids powerful staff and tail, the Icthyids were all scattered, dead, or lay unmoving.

Quickly the Nerid moved from one Fish-man to the neck, gutting them where they fell. The fish men appeared harder to truly kill -- their cold-blooded biology allowing them to survive wounds the tribe was sure were fatal.

The Nerid ate it's fill noisily then began to pack the rest of the corpses into a great black net of glistening fronds. "So.... Friends it is. I will share these my kill with you (gain 10 food if you will eat fish-men) and you may summon me as long as you are (three squares) from the bay. My mindsense is attuned to you, and I will rise." ( Heterological Heterological alone may summon the Nerid to commune with on discord)

That said, orders were still carried out, once the Rion carried out their orders after leaving the cave, regardless of this outcome...

1. Zian and two unit of hunters travelled to the clay flats to hunt antelope and gazelle. Zian gains 9 food and 3 units of horns.

2. TWO units of tribesmen searched for wood, but due to the displacement of the tribe they were restricted to singular trees in the dunes and gathering driftwood. 3 units of common wood found.

3. In the watery cave, large amounts of brilliant stones were found strewn apparently unvalued by the marine peoples. Rion Tribe gains 2 units of Topaz, 2 units of Malachite, and 1 unit of RUBIES. while lovely for augmentation, they might also make very sharp and useful tools...

4. Working with the Niislel, the Rion tribe creates the hybrid spell "Purifying Fire" that had both offensive and healing applications. Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon

AngelCloud AngelCloud : DAY 2

Orders for the tribe were given out and performed, though it would only be later when the tribe settled down amid ruins and seeming mud-hut and stick-piled structures that a greater encounter was had....

1. Two teams of amazons went out to help Raptora find a mate -- And the cunning, intellect raptor "Crimson" was found. The challenge almost cost Viper her life, but she demonstrated to the pack that she would rather die than submit... which was the correct response to Crimson's sister's challenge. By the Fall, Raptora would have a brood of her own to care for, and once per season the amazons could call on "the bloody sisters" raptor pack to aid in one battle or hunt -- though it was not a certainty they would respond...

2. One team of hunters found an old cave bear on it's way to the river to forage and drink... they ambushed it, and without injury gained 5 food, 1 fur, and 1 bone. (units)

3. Searching for harder materials, the tribe found TOPAZ on the clay flats, seemingly thrown randomly in the northwest of the clayflats between the ruins and the mud and stick huts. This semi-precious gemstone would be a strong and beautiful material for whatever use it was intended gain 2 units Topaz.

4. Woodcutters find 3 units of common wood and 1 additional unit of dryad wood. if they researched the dryad wood further, they might find it even more easily.

Then came the tale of the mud-flat, and the ruins, and the huts...

A nature tribe of roughly the size of the skeletal amazons lived here, perhaps larger, they were skittish and all covered themselves in some kind of yellow dust -- it was hard to count them as it was to tell them apart. They had PERMANENT DWELLINGS... they obviously did not fear the scraol, for whatever reason... which was enough to give Viper a silent fear in the back of her head. they were calm, almost listless in their relaxed posture... it was hard to understand them as their language was distant from the one people -- but they explained "The Yellow musk loves them -- and the scraol hate the yellow musk."

The Yellow Musk tribe invited the Skeletal amazon tribe to camp with them tonight (and the nature tribe will pay all food units to feed them!) If they will only agree to follow customs when "yellow mother brings her gifts."

If the skeletal amazons do not wish to camp with the Yellow Musk tribe, they can camp in the open between the ruins and the nature tribe's village, but will need to make their own fire and spend their own food to feed the group.

Either way: there will be a discord encounter, but decide whether you accept the native tribes hospitality or set your own camp for night 2... asap.

Eliasdagood Eliasdagood DAY 2:

The Cavara had travelled far, but they had finally reached the salt-water -- they found the beach, the cool ocean wind, the palm trees and the dunes. For the first time since the one-people had travelled as refugees, they finally felt at home. (+1 temporary morale = beach effect)

The bay held all the promise that the big waters of their origin had... Coconuts lay for the taking (+3 food whenever in a yellow beach square, no labor needed) as well as herds of crabs and fields of shellfish.

Though the fish of the bay were clever, and initial fishing was difficult, the tribe still got 6 units of fish rather easily... with promise of considerably more if they improved their tecnnique, used tools, or otherwise employed magic. (9 food including coconuts)

Palm trees made for poor fires, but there was plenty of driftwood on the beach, and dried out palm fronds made for good kindling. 4 units of common wood were gathered.

The last group, assigned to set up camp and mind the night's fire, also combed the beach for shiny pearls and beautiful urchin shells left aplenty in the surf. Gain 1 unit pearls, 1 unit precious shells.

They saw the signs of Ichtytids -- fish men, here and there in the water and on the beach. It was likely the fish-men fled at the Cavara's approach, but if the Cavara tried they might be able to make contact...

NIGHT 2 Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon :

The scraol crouched on three sides of the camp, the other side being drawn by the river. They were close, their outlines cast in the furthest glimmers of the fire. Occasional bursts of purefire maintained and attempted to elevate the great fire -- showing scraol standing poised, drooling, still as trees in the dark. The devils gathered but did not approach... and as the hours turned and the night wore on the Niislel could almost forgot their near omnipresence. Almost. The chieftains said to Baatar that the tribe must move soon, or risk daring the scraol to approach despite the fire. Fear grew in the hearts of the clan, but such fears were distracted by the birth and development of the Tribe's new weapon, and sport of staff-slings.

1. The making of pottery was not just successful, it was beautiful. This prevented food from spoiling, and gave the tribe something to be proud of (+1 temporary morale)

2. Creation of water-footwear was a success -- although it would not let the tribe travel farther, it would give them bonuses to labor especially near the shore.

3. The sport of the Niislel was born and in the times following the sport was interestingly enough adopted by the Popotam. The Popotam, still amateurs at the game, issued a challenge to the human tribes to field a team of "SlingStone" against the popotam's fiercest warriors. The game would be held the first day of summer -- and any number of tribes/units could participate against 6 popotam champions. (NEW QUEST: Popotam SlingStone Match) -- all tribes know about it, but the Niislel will have to propagate knowledge/equipment for the game. If match is attempted it will mean culture points for coming fall season and if won temporary morale boosts for coming season.

4. The use of the Blood thoughts spell was fraught with concern. While small amounts of information could be conveyed and kept soundly, teaching a large amount caused strange side effects, painful psychic echoes, nosebleeds, and in the most extreme cases temporary blindness. The spell was useful for transmitting small messages silently of short distances, which could aid in hunting and military affairs, but as an educational tool it was too powerful for the tribe's current magic. (serious lore and magical resources must be invested to improve spell or research after more spells are known to use to permanently convey/educate.

5. The brewing produced interesting results. Melons only created a strong brew that conveyed a sense of courage and wellbeing, but smelled terrible. The mix of melons and berries was a weaker brew, but tastier and made regular meals more filling (-20% food consumption) Hag's hair turned all liquids into deep-sleep concentrate (gain 2 units of sleep poison) and the purifying fire seemed to upset the entire process of the "fermentation" making the drinks clean, but without potency. (Food saving % tech can be traded/shared)

Kent Kent Night 2:

1. The Blood Clan rested happily around their center fire, enshrouded in the red haze they generated that seemed to confound and repel unwanted observers. The scraol were out there, but they kept their distance and only made furtive visits into the haze, them that did skulked low to the ground, breathing the tiny layer of air beneath the cloud, even then such visits were brief and seemingly taxing for the devils. Most interesting.

2. With the success of the Haze, excitement starting growing about the power of the Banner Ward -- Little was accomplished making new tools though the beginning of new designs were planned the excitement of repelling the Scraol reached a fever pitch when the banner was completed and proudly held aloft. The Banner granted Fear (5) and +1 to the first round of hunts/combats. Technology of banners/standards can be traded/shared. It could not be certain if the magic of the banner kept the scraol at bay or if it was simply the red haze and the fire -- but one skulking Scraol took the carrying of the banner as a challenge, and approached with it's own standard of flayed human skin -- challenging the great warrior who bore the standard to fight in the haze. (Decision point: Take banner to fight in single combat with a single scraol?) Under the circumstances some courage could be summoned -- and to capture the Scraol standard might be quite a statement. (resolve in discord)

3. The calling was successful. By morning light, the Blood tribe could attract: (Decision point)
A) 2 units of people
B) 2 units of blood mephits (minor demons)
C) 1 Barbed Devil Ally (meeting resolved in discord)

4. Left and Right were becoming skilled warriors and hunters, fighting in tandem side to side and back to back... there was the seed of some military cohesion here, but it was long from being developed. Once the fall begins, Kent Kent will have a special "military tradition" check -- to see if tandem combat techniques catch on. Strygwyr cannot teach these methods as he would require a dedicated partner -- it rapidly became clear that only Left and Right, bruised and bloodied, would be able to teach the tribe when the came of age in the coming season.

5. The elders develop the spell Huntsense -- effectively giving 1 in 5 members of a unit thermographic vision to look for threats, predators and prey. The spell would have to be developed to make it more ubiquitous but already showed great promise in hunts and avoiding ambushes. However, The huntsense made it just how very horrifyingly present the scraol were at night. (Clan gains -1 temporary morale) -- for they were ALWAYS there, even when no normal senses told them so... paranoid of the devils spread in the clan.

Twist Twist Night 2:

1. The modest darkwood fire gave up it's thick smoke that danced on the wind seeming to spiral around the entire camp, in time with the dancing -- the clouds rising and falling with the mating of the Kin Tribe. Wary as ever the firetenders were with their spears, though it seemed the scraol were somewhere else tonight... seemed being the operative word. Still, it was a quality fire and smelled of cinnamon and incense when burned in such large quantities. The elders pondered if additional uses could be found for the wood...

2. The great Fertility ritual was one of the finer ones recently for the Kin tribe, but to the runners of the other tribes is was supreme hedonism. Dwarven mating techniques could potentially be propagated back to the other tribes and the mixing of the bloodlines strengthened the kin tribe. The Kin tribe could now empower one feast to improve outcomes as a result of their mixing and becoming more diverse. Even without a feast, tale of the pleasures of the Kin Tribe spread and attracted the lost and the isolated. +1 unit of people.

3. The Elders quickly learned "Mighty Blood" from mixing magics with the other blood tribes. Special laborious and pleasurable rites were conducted when taking the spell from the other tribes, such that the spell Obsession was also unlocked and could be shared with Strygwyr and Baatar -- Obsession could be cast on up to two units of workers and improve their focus and work product... but use of the spell seemed to change tribals forever... a lust in them ignited that even in the kin tribe was never present before.

4. The rituals of warming and love centered around the wind-burned tribals that returned from their exploration, and when they emerged, sweaty for their passionate labors the Elders had made 1 unit of Fur Armor. It could provide limited protection against weapons and excellent protection against the elements. Tribals danced and made love in the name of the great gazelle spirit, hoping that future hunts would grant more of the tribe warm clothing...

5. The elders produced 1 unit of Darkwood spirit drink (without consuming a unit of darkwood) -- many samplings and tastings were given throughout the tribe until the drink was perfected, which brought the mating rituals to even newer heights.

In the meantime, Matri Midwi -- when not presiding and guiding the festivities, began to etch the names of her tribe into the Soapstone. It was a simple icon, but it had powerful spirits in it -- the "Stone of names" granted "Awe (2)" when it was done in it's magnificence, the artists of the tribe accentuating and detailing the carefully etched names into a relic a unit of tribesmen could carry. (add stone of names to inventory and note Awe (2) for unit carrying it... if not attached to a unit, it is assumed to be carried by a retainer with Matri Midwi)

Karcen Karcen Night 2:

1. The fire burned high and while the scraol could be seen rummaging beyond in the shadows, none dared approach the camp of the Bonereapers. Relax they could, and relax they did, even what labor had to be done was done in repose. The entire tribe felt energized after the night was over. Bonereapers can "Empower" two orders of their choice before night 4 (when the start of fall expires this perk)

2. The massive fertility rite was just what the beleaguered tribe needed to steel their bonds and as was said, celebrate life even in the face of death. Tribe gains "Seeds Sown" perk -- (which will grant +2 people at the start of next season)

3. At first, the small idol vessels were crumbly and weak, but sufficient labor assigned to the project won through, producing viable houses for the souls of the dead elders. The Skull for Ba'lal was NOT perfect, but the last elder THOUGHT it was, which would have to do. It was a large item, carriable by a unit, or if not carried by a unit was considered to be carried by a retainer close to Deyas.

4. a Curse spell was developed, but it did not function as the creators intended. the curse instead created fear and chaos in the hearts of those subjected, making their attacks less likely to succeed. The last elder said that perhaps, with the aid of a blood mage, a damage reflection spell would be possible.

5. Two units of monster bone were offered up to the scion, burnt at the height of the fertility rites (this transaction will be resolved on discord)

Any fatigue or mana drain the tribe had been subjected to subsided in the face of the rest and relaxation... their next endeavors might also be blessed! (if designated)

Heterological Heterological Night 2:

1. (Handled in discord) The foreigners from the fire tribe to the west were strange indeed. they wore long gowns of clay beads and stones and kept gourds of some disgusting potion near them, of which they were extremely protective. Conversation with the newcomers would be interesting to say the least.

2. The fire on the beach was adequate if not more so. The tribe was kept safe, and the survivors of the falls incident healed and rested as best they could. Much talk was made about how if the Icthyids were now enemies and the Nerid were now allies. One would have to see how further relations fared.

3-4. Malachite and horn was used together for the making of tools AND weapons -- the products were of good quality and because of the gemstones, enchantable. The weapons were cruel blades, shortspears, picks and sickles. a wide variety of styles made weapons tools and tools weapons. The Rian gain "multipurpose" eureka and now tools and weapons can be used interchangably. The night's effort produces 4 units of (enchantable) Good Malachite/Horn weapon-tools. if they so wished, the rian could continue to research this stylization to potentially make other discoveries or make this aspect a part of their longstanding culture.

5. The elders researched purefire -- it became clear that weaponizing it would be difficult and would require greater knowledge of larger direct damage fire spells to do so. As it stood, it cleansed corruption and poison of all types and soothed injuries and aided healing more than it could be used to cause damage. Purefire did seem to alarm the Scraol, but they quickly seemed to adapt to repeated exposure to it during the night -- first it caused small scraol to scramble, then all scraol to step back, and eventually they were inured to it. Still, the elders swore that if a fire blast or fire ball spell could be researched, coupling it with purefire had some potential. The elders also said purefire would be extremely valuable against evil spirits and the restless dead, the kind of which the bone tribes seemed to favor as labor and auxillary warriors. The radiance in the purefire was deadly to undead... but not as dangerous to the scraol as one hoped.

The popotam guest seemed happy for the company of humans but had a certain sadness likely related to alienation from their own kind. The young warrior supported Rian logic to make friends with the strongest and to reject the weak, the Popotam rewarded Zian's hospitality by giving a great bracelet, more suitable as a belt, to Rian that was made of Gold. (gain 1 unit of gold) The "Belt" also seemed to imbue some type of blessing of strength from the popotam...

Prince Vaethorion Prince Vaethorion :

The new fire blazed high and cast it's light around the camp -- the scraol were out there, but they dared not approach this fire, and the tribe was too vigilant and active to even swipe one of the very old or very young. The Popotam approached their camp in the night, further disrupting the Scraol and challenged the River tribe to a game of "SlingStone" -- a sport invented by the Niilsel Blood Tribe Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon and the chieftain Baatar. (Such a challenge would be coordinated with other tribes if desired and resovled on discord) the River people had until the first day of summer to prepare a team and accept the challenge of the popotam or forfeit -- giving glory and embracing cowardice in the eyes of the popotam. Seeing the tribe emulating the shields of the popotam, a popotam elder helped the tribe by sharing the design for an ideal shield... it was neither too heavy nor too difficult to discard, and taught that blocking was as much an act of movement than simply bracing against strikes -- true dominance with a shield by the popotam was incorporating blows, and meeting the foes strength of attack with the strength of your own defense to tire your enemy and find opportunities to end a fight more quickly, as well as the technique of teams shielding each other, so they could focus on threats with the group helping in the collective defense. The Popotam eventually left, ignoring the threat of the scraol and boasted that when the river tribe was old enough, they would be great enough to teach the popotam something...

Meanwhille, the great fertility ritual carried on unabated, and it attracted both refugees from the night and increased the population of the tribe -- River Tribe gains 2 units of people, one regular water unit and one a refugee unit with ASTRAL DEVOTION. These foreigners said they had attempted to join with the Yellow musk tribe which lived very closeby to the south... but learned that what they called protection from the scraol was to them a fate worse than death... River runs deep learned that a related tribe AngelCloud AngelCloud (Viper Snakeheart's skeletal amazons) were currently camping with the yellow musk tribe -- and learned too late that some fate had befallen them -- The entire tribe by morning had fled into their camp, gibbering of some nightmare they encountered in the ruins just south of the River Tribe's Camp.

While Blissfully unaware of this the River tribe frolicked and mated, and those too spent to do so wasted no time either stealing a rest or preserving food.

Construction of the shields was a great success -- each unit had it's largest member carry a heavy shield to protect the unit from missiles and the rest of the unit was given smaller shields to skirmish in combat. The ancient wood produced enough shields for the entire tribe, The ancient wood shining a golden color that gave both pride and courage to the warrior that carried it (+1 permanent morale as long as shields are employed) it must be mentioned that units carry shields for their bonus to be applied, and carrying a shield did interfere with gathering.

Eliasdagood Eliasdagood : NIGHT 2

Finally by the waterside and in their home element, the night was as lazy and comfortable as it felt safe. Not a scraol to be seen -- they might not even have actually even been there.
Their fire minority tribe members tended a great blaze, and the saltwater bay sparkled against the brightness of the camp.

A great feast attracted refugee water tribals from along the river and in small groups from the dunes -- 2 units of people were gained in the celebration. Intimate bonds were established and reinforced and the tribe's heart beat strong with plenty to eat and much love to be had.

Laying out food for the Ichtyids (fish people) brought the frightening looking but peaceful creatures to the edge of the camp, willing to trade quality fish nets and crab traps as well as coral weapons and armor. The fish people accepted the peace offering and asked if the Cavara would speak to another tribe of humans, the Rian Heterological Heterological that had seemingly allied with their natural predators, the Nerid. There were only four Nerid in the Valley's Bay, they said, but the Nerid were mighty foes and the fishmen needed allies to fight them. (quest to hunt a nerid will be added to discord for any tribe to take up) which would involve teaming up with a large force of Ichtyids and attempt to kill one of the great mage-monsters. (trade can be conducted with fishmen via discord if desired)

Scouts were established to study the scraol, but as mentioned it did not seem they loomed this night. Instead the scouts put their heads together and discovered the secret of the SALT resource (+1 permanent morale) drying salt out of the baywater had medicinal and preservative properties and also made relatively bland food tastier. (add Salt knowledge to tribe!)

AngelCloud AngelCloud : Night 2...

The nightmare of the Yellow Musk:

By day going on sunset all seemed happy and peaceful, the skeletal amazons captured briefly some of the stronger men of the musk tribe and were thrilled and surprised that a tribe could find a way to live a stationary life without fear of the Scraol. The volcanic clay-flat they occupied was made notable by two sets of structures -- on one side the small stationary huts of the yellow musk tribe, and the avoided, "taboo" area of ruins on the other side of the flats, where "Mother Yellow Musk" supposedly provided her protection. The skeletal amazons wished to meet this great Loa, but the Yellow musk tribe kept the amazons busy with "preparation rituals" and "Rites of passage" most of which involved accepting strange yellow drinks and wearing yellow body-paint the musk tribe wore universally that was made of some strange dry and soapy spores that had been gathered from strange patches of flowers in the flats. By nightfall, a meeting with the Mother was said to be postponed, but the Yellow musk tribe created their own small utilitarian fire for cooking for the amazons and encouraged them to feast and perform fertility rites with them.

During the early evening the Skeletal amazons trained their bull raptor and fed the babies -- the yellow musk tribe was more than willing to glut them on yellow spiced meats as well as prepare a special meal for Viper Snakeheart they said would "Strengthen their bond with the animals"... the tribe seemed sincere and convincing so nobody thought the wiser... this was the tribe that had conquered the threat of the scraol in the valley after all... Progress began to be made on making their own tools when the yellow musk tribe offered the amazons 2 units of strong thorny tools they themselves had harvested "At the knees of the mother" -- the tribe also tried to research dryad wood -- but the yellow musk tribe would not have it, demanding it be covered in the presence of the tribe... so as not to offend the amazons respected the customs of their hosts...

It was only hours after nightfall that the nightmare started -- The spores exploded into boils on many members of the amazons who partook of the offered food as well as members of the yellow musk, making the victims catatonic. Those that were not overrun by the spores were hopelessly drugged and bound by the larger yellow musk tribe and held captive to be offered to "The mother" at dawn.

By midnight it became clear how the yellow musk tribe was protected -- a great hideous yellow flowering plant crawled on it's vines into the center of the clay-flat and burst forth with clouds of spores that doubtless kept the scraol away for fear of being poisoned... the yellow musk tribe danced in these clouds and subjected their prisoners to exposure. Viper snakeheart and her Raptors were drugged with powerful toxins so they could not retaliate -- elders of the musk promising that the lizards and the chieftain would be "offered to the mother last"...

...Shambling all around the great plant monster were "Yellow musk zombies" -- people who had succumbed to the spores either putting them in a trance like state or literally their bodies were exploded by great cysts of yellow gasses and still they moved with an unholy power.

(Quest to be put on Discord to rescue the Skeletal Amazons! They are at the mercy of the Yellow musk tribe -- all tribes, including the skeletal amazons may participate in this quest)

all of the skeletal amazons but one unit, the raptors, and Viper are captured, the rest flee to hide in Prince Vaethorion Prince Vaethorion 's (The river tribe's) camp directly to the north. This is a time-sensitive quest!!!

Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon DAY 3:

The dawn and into the day was overcast and grey over the tribe, where sun fell elsewhere in the valley -- this bespoke of dark omens, the elders said, but others said it was a blessing that the valley helped to hide the Niislel in their flight from the ever emboldening Scraol... The Tribe crossed the river, making sure not to tarry in the domain of the great stump -- an action that felt well thought of -- mysterious and unwelcoming energies hovered there, ushering them on and dulling their curiosities...

They travelled to the other side of the river and away from the scraol that haunted them, settling In shallow woods where the forest tapered into the sands of the shore, and settled a new camp.

1. Heterological Heterological -- Working with visiting elders and trading knowledge as well with the Rion, The Niislel tribe concocted two paths for their joint research to go -- They could develop:
A) Maddening Compulsion -- This mixing mighty blood with the passion of fire was similar to simple berserk spells, but was more lucid and enduring -- it would confer bonuses to work, labor and war under influence of the spell, but the action COULD NOT be stopped before completion. There was no flight if a flight went bad, no stopping work if a product proved dangerous, No quitting until the last item that could be, was gathered.
B) Burning Will -- This spell was more mild in it's mental effects but caused subjects to glow like smoulering coals creatiing low light. Reduced fatigue and hightened strength and focus were aspects of it's effect, as well as a capacity to, in groups, direct a burning, disturbing mindforce.
The tribes would have to choose together what shape the new spell would take.

2.

Baatar and a strong force of tribesmen made their way to the dunes on the bayside looking for something the Gelrakes promised they'd find... The skies only grew darker and more foreboding, and it began to rain... just locally, upon the tribe. An ill omen indeed. The Origin Stone glowed with some hidden excitement, the destiny stone was cold and still. With magical strength and mighty blood, the Niislel began to dismantle the wet sand of the dunes... looking for what was hidden... Some dunes were just that, piles of shifting sand, but others revealed an ancient secret... Protected by the burial of the beaches ancient structures, perhaps the last to be built in the valley by the old human inhabitants, began to reveal themselves. Domes made of sandstone barred permanently from the outside (where it seemed sign of forced entry by the scraol in ancient times damaged these defenses, but also locked and barred from the inside as well. They were homes, but windowless -- and if they were impenitrable at the time of their construction the marching of years made the portals to these strange unburied buildings breachable with the dwarven tools and the strength of mighty blood...

Sealed on the inside, the "houses" were packed with strange huddles of intertwined humanoid skeletons. These were not homes -- some stuffed so full there must have barely been room to stand for all the bodies when the domes were closed. The origin and destiny stone glowed, and whispered secrets and danced runes with eldrich light to reveal new patterns, and tell new stories...

These were not houses, but TOMBS for the yet living -- the last people of the valley, pressed endlessly by the scraol, Interred themselves in these barrows and locked themselves up to die. The skeleton of children clutched to their mothers, the skeletons of lovers embraced, and the skeletons of students at the feet of their masters. They had given up the endless competition against the predation of the scraol... and chose to die, in unison, where the scraol could not claim them. There was no room for grave-goods, and bones if examined closely crumbled to dust... no spirits dwelled here anymore, but on the walls of the barrows runes were written that made the origin and destiny stone glow... Baatar was seized by a vision... a horror... a nightmare as he saw all about him that skeletons had tails like his, had vicious teeth he recognized, and some had claw or talon that invoked an all too familiar fear... He traced, staring at the origin stone against the runes of the barrows... and saw the past... the origin stone slowly revealed a dark mystery...

"...When the Scraol emerged from the deep below with the dwarves, they were but pests to the dwarfs, and driven from the underdarks to struggle on the surface. The men and women of the valley aligned with these proto-scraol, and in return for dark pacts, and hunting instincts and tooth and claw and tail, interbred with these creatures to create a mightier version of man... never minding that it too would create a mightier breed of scraol. The Tailed ancestors, the clawed ones, the toothed ones, the bloodline Baatar was descended from -- was -- as the origin stone revealed, some sort of transhuman half-breed... the bloodline shared with the scraol. Echoes of the long departed whispered of the marriage of scraol and humans in bloodline, and how it made the PEST from the depths into a nightmare version of man, ever coveting more of man's essence. Baatar saw the Scraol Hunt the tribes of men for their sparks, and in taking a spark of blood had learned to crossbreed with the humans against the human will -- the gathering of "gametes" for magical rituals that would make weak scraol born stronger in human frame, even superior to such. Man had for an evolutionary edge created the scraol as they now were, and bred into them a need for the building blocks of humans to prevent them from devolving into their pre-hybrid state. The origin stone whispered that the scraol were now unwelcome cousins, unnatural abominations that sought to take humans place on the chair of common ancestors... and that the last of the humans in the valley, knowing this -- took their own lives in the barrows rather than let their flesh be taken to strengthen the scraol... the scraol of yesterday, just as the scraol of today, endlessly chased humanity to take what was human from them and elevate their species, the humans who had ceased to breed with the scraol willingly only had wisps and ghosts of the former united "divinity" of the two species intermingled... in Baatar, however deeply buried, lay the essence of a scraol. So spoke the talons, the claws, and the tails on these poor skeletons... that once the two races were more closely but unaturally related. With every generation the Scraol grew more savage without unity with man, and in the destiny stone Baatar could sense something unheard of in the scraol -- FEAR. Fear of lapsing prior to sentience, of losing what made them scraol as what made them apex predators was indeed the soul, the bloodlines, of man. Was this the soul of the rumor the chiropteran behemoth toyed with in his tale? Was this the secret truth that Baatar was better off not knowing? It would seem so...

In the darkness of the barrows -- Baatar's people looked to him, and to his twisting, recoiling tail. He would need to speak to his people about what they had learned... say something... quickly... lets fear and panic overcame them... Did the Niislel BELONG to the devils? were they the same?! Was Baatar's divinity naught but a TAINT on the human heritage? Eyes looked upon Baatar with awe, with fear... and some... with hate.

3.
3 Units of people are sent to the south east to extract further purestone from the sinkhole that is not underwater and to excavate the sunken adobe homes in the sinkhole. If it enables them to work more efficiently, then they are allowed to use their tools to convert the blocks of purestone into more manageable pieces.
1 Unit of Excellent Iron Dwarven Mining Tools, 1 Unit of Sharp, Heavy, Quality Tools, Mighty Blood, Water Footwear (Bonus to labor, especially near the shore)

Perhaps blissfully unaware of these dark truths, another large group of Niislel excavated the depths of the sinkhole west of the shore... the ruins of the purestone temple and the abobe ruins around it. While there was nothing in these houses that survived the ravages of time, it gave the Niislel a eureka -- The making of the brick with fiber and clay -- and with it, a way to build strong homes of their own, if only they could ever stop moving. (Tribe gains Clay House Tech, and Large Clay construction)

In addition to this, the great work group piled small ramps of cut purestone to the lip of the sinkhole and used this tactic to make a path to push the unworked blocks of purestone, like icecubes up out of the sinkhole. (Tribe gains FIVE units of purestone!) -- and tribes that learned of these ramps could just as easily take large amounts of purestone for themselves -- if the Niislel showed them how...

4. Having much purestone to work with, the elders determined that deep and great INTENT could be infused upon purestone, like a handprint or a footprint... experimenting would need to be done, but apparrently the size of the stone did not matter, it was the strength of will and clarity of the desire of what wished to infuse, or inflict, upon the stone. More research would be needed, perhaps in great detail (further experimentation in discord possible)

5.

The Niislel performed their trade with the bonereapers -- sharing sport for spell help and salt for commodities. The niislel learned that salt both preserved and flavored food, adding +1 permanent morale. It was also a very pure substance, that could fire corruption similar to purefire, but naturally instead of magically... could there be a synergy? The Niislel could research a "Halite Bolt" spell or a "Purefire Saltstorm" spell or perhaps explore other potentials.

For their part, the Bonereapers seemed naturally apt players of the new Slingstone sport, and refined the the game with use of a calcified ball that travelled further and more artfully than a stone.

With shared research, the Bonreapers gained their damage-reflecting curse Karcen Karcen -- but The Niislel could not use the spell on their own...

Karcen Karcen DAY 3:

1. Although the bone-reapers were generally a dour and no-nonsense people, The learning of the Niislel sport of Slingstone was a big hit among the tribes youth, who played the game with great skill and made their own slingstones out of compressed bone, giving the balls a uniform shape and weight. So skilled were they in practice that the best amoung them could CATCH sling missiles and fling them back to ally or enemy alike quite surprisingly.

The elder worked also with Niislel on the development of a reflective curse -- which surprisingly only seemed to work for the Bonereapers and it's casting eluded the tribe of Baatar -- this pleased Deyas, who was not one to share knowledge except under the best of circumstances with non-purebloods it was all the better that it just worked out that way.

2. From the sinkhole, the two teams well equipped with tools (and accessing the new ramps of purestone hastily set up by the Niislel) did a crack job of gathering clay from the watery depths of the pit. 7 units of Clay were aquired, along with 1 unit of purestone that was incidentally mixed in with the clay.

3. Deyas' crew was sent into the forests to gather wood, and were successful in gathering 6 units of common wood, 1 unit of sacred wood, and 1 unit of crystal wood. Tools were particularly useful in this and above endeavors, as was the confidence of going gathering armed with weapons.

4. Travelling to the great skeleton of the Monster Decoculus, the tribe again -- this time with longdead servitors -- went to shape and gather the monster bone the Bonereapers had so depended on. With boneshaping, tools, and proper labor, Monster bone became a Renewable Resource for the bonereapers -- they would not run out as long as they used it for their own purposes only. If they decided to trade monster bone, they were considered to have 5 units to do so before they'd have to gather monster bone again...

5. Ba'lal the necromancer was summoned to the great skull, and it's eyes awoke and burned with purple orbs of smoke and sparks -- Ba'lal taught the Bonereapers the powers of Binding and Unbinding souls -- and in the bargain brought the dead elders of the tribe back in a great ceremony of boneshaping. Each elder for it had a skull of monster bone crafted for it to hang from the belts of other members of the tribe -- and the spirits of the dead elders were invested into the skulls, one by one, at the commanding and summoning of Ba'lal. It was through this rite that each unit of bonereapers always had access to the knowledge of the elders, and the elder spirits communed with Deyas and the Living Elder for research, projects, and ponderings of things to come. While without physical forms beyond their sculpted skulls, the Elders presence was felt once again among the bonereapers -- and stronger still in knowing that not even death would keep them away from guiding the tribe.

Ba'lal spoke and said that with all the bone Deya had gathered they could make mobile skeleton vessels for the elders... or instead increase the numbers of longdead servants to the tribe... Decision point: Do the bonereapers want 2 units of longdead (Free) or Physical Monster bone bodies for their elders? (Decide in discord)

Ba'lal was a mighty necromancer, and in showing and exercising his power it seemed he grew stronger still -- he created a Cloak of Lizard Scale that Deya had gifted him and filled it with animal horns that clacked and clattered wherever he went. "More necromancy, Deya -- we must overwhelm with it -- let the other tribes scrape in the dirt while you part forest and ocean alike with an army of the dead! There are spirits to commune with, and pacts to be made, and each one will only make me stronger!" -- Deyas wondered if Ba'lal could become too strong to control, or a threat to her power... but Ba'lal did not seem interested in the strivings of the flesh... he only hoped that Deya had more uses for him, and that in doing so it would expand his power...

Kent Kent DAY 3:

The blood tribes strengthened their bonds settling again in the same area to work -- much cooperation and friendship began to spring from the Blood Tribes association and proximity with the Kin Tribe... (+1 temporary morale to Kent Kent and Twist Twist )

1. The Blowpipes were a wonder to behold, wooden shafts with stone ends and a monster bone inner shaft and embossment made these formidable tools and weapons indeed. They carried hairs bearing paralytic poison with dreadful accuracy (3+ to hit on d6) and while the poison took time to take effect, the wounds caused by the quills were disconcerting of themselves. There was enough materials to make pipes for the entire tribe, both for hunting and defense, but the clan would need to find more spiders if this supply was to be maintained...

2. The hunt was quick and gruesome -- a giant armadillo wandered the edges of the dead forest near the camp and was quickly hailed with paralytic darts... the creature began to plod away, but it did not get far before it rolled on it's side. It's great armor did nothing for it when it was immobile and obsidian spears found their mark in the underbelly just as the special weapons of Strygwyr and the Twins removed the head. 15 units of food were utterly cleaned from the carcass, leaving nothing but other materials behind. 1 unit of large bones, 4 units of bony plates, and blood -- plenty of blood was harvested.

3. As people of the forest the group quickly gathered 4 units of common wood -- but that was not all they had found -- ensconced in a tight stand of overgrown trees was a mighty Green tree with moss dangling from it like hair, or cobwebs -- the bark was green, the leaves were green, the wood was green -- they had doubtlessly found an ancient Elven Tree, it's fallen branches scattered all around, a deep hole in the center of the truck where BEAT a red hive of buzzing insects -- held within and invisible. "You have found the Ent of Elvenwood, manthings -- dare you come to cut me down? or free me from these parasites? I have much to offer -- but what have you to give an entity such as me?" (encounter to be resolved on discord)

4. The expedition into the deeper Natural caves between the kin and blood clan was predictable, but productive... Twist Twist and Kent Kent both gained 5 food from hunting smaller spiders -- (they proved to be vulnerable to their own poison from the blowdarts) and the expedition came back with 3 units of toxic mushrooms, 3 food from edible fungi, as well as a pool of Quicksilver and a vein of Gypsum. The elders knew only that quicksilver was highly toxic, but if encorporate into ornaments was quite lovely -- Gypsum was used long ago, in the time before the endless hunting of the scraol, to condition soil better for growing, and in alabaster decoration on stone construction. These finds were shared with the kin tribe and it was wondered if exploiting these resources could have a strong impact on permanent morale and culture...

5. Join research between kind and blood tribes unlocked the reinvigoration spell -- but could not find a way to unite the spell with mighty blood. Mighty blood enabled great exertion, and reinvigoration recovered the fatigue from this however, which was a powerful combination separately nonetheless. In the end, a hybrid WAS formed, but it was a strange one -- "Last Gasp" -- was the marraige of mighty blood and reinvigoration, which gave disrupted and destroyed units a single and final turn in battle, fallen or broken forces regaining their feet, putting in a final push, after which death would likely and quickly take hold...

Heterological Heterological Day 3:

1. INLOR the popotam warrior, when not practicing slingstone, was a very productive engine of labor for the Rion Tribe. Capable of dragging whole trees the tribesmen managed to fell, the day passed with a massive 12 units of common wood dragged to the camp, along with 2 units of darkwood and a unit of elvenwood. At the end of the day, Inlor thanked the Rion tribe for all they had taught him, and departed amicably to join The Niislel Tribe that was camped just to the west -- to see what he could learn from them, the inventers of the slingstone sport. Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon

2. The Rion CLEANED the waterfall cave of all loose stones of any value, though deposits still lingered growing and buried on the walls -- The Rion gained 3 units of rubies, 1 unit of "Armored stone" -- a strange, flaky alloy that seemed to be light, brittle, but composed of several layers or strata -- more examination would be needed. They also found 1 unit of Muddy "Moonstone" growing in the light beyond the falls -- this was a potent magical catalyst whether it was spent to empower spells, or perhaps made into something greater.

3. In the cool of the caves and the warmth of the beach,, massive amounts of clay were converted into pottery. Beads, Bangles, Containers of all sizes -- with purefire the making of quality and aesthetically pleasing pottery was much easier. The Rion Gain Pottery as a renewable resource, the tribe replacing new bits as the old were broken or lost at an equal or faster rate.

4. Fishing however did not come naturally to the Rion, at least not quickly -- their mud camoflage clouded the waters and their fire powers were not effective in the gathering of fish. Still, they had tools, and that helped somewhat with the product of their labors. 4 units of food were obtained, though additional fishing might be profitable with practice or guidance, including diversifying into hunting for arthropods and shellfish.

5. Research into purefire as a personal motivator or labor enhancer was, after all was said and done -- a disappointment. However as a side effect they unlocked new avenues of fire research and could gain two fire spells (discussed in discord) that could be unlocked from the elders efforts...

Twist Twist DAY 3:

Matri Midwi and the kind tribe had work to do -- and an experiment to conuct. The spoiled corruption in the camp was collected and the tribe went about their tasks.

Word had come back that the obsession and mighty blood on the clan of Strgwyr produced great results in their blowguns. Perhaps with the right materials the weapons could be adopted by the kin tribe as well?

1. The Fine-ness of dwarven tools or even the inspiration of them in the humans own designs delivered great results when applied... specialization and volume of labor proved productive... 3 units of Granite Stone and 2 units of Armored Stone were brought back in boulders and cleft chunks... to the camp and whatever end awaited them.

2. An Ancient White Bear was found to the east and challenged the hunting party of the Kin Tribe -- scarred by a score of deadly encounters, one eye white from a blinding wound... it would be a fierce fight but all other game had fled the area due to the predations of the beast. Would the Kin tribe offer supplicance to the ancient bear, or grow stronger in defeating it? The tribe would have to eat if reserves were low, which might force the decision. (To be resolved in discord -- encounter with ancient bear, hunt or ritual?)

3. The Lumber team searched environments where it had seen darkwood before and saw that it flourished on the fallen tree, the infested tree, and the decomposing tree. Knowing where to look, The Lumber team could gain 8 units of common wood OR 5 units of darkwood. The team was not large enough to move it all.

4. The corrupt and spoilt food was rather than purged or burned used to create a slurry that the needle grubs eagerly feasted upon. Knowing this cycle, the grubs were domesticated, often seeking this slurry from the wild and seeding it with more grubs. Tribe gains passive food income of 3 food per phase, or 6 total per day/night. In addition, the grubs left their own corruption behind which was fertile magic apparently for the mushrooms and flowers that the Kin tribe salted into the stinking mess. Mushrooms become a renewable and tradable resource for the Kin tribe, and recreational use by all increases morale of tribe by +1 permanently (if a permanent bonus is not already applied) ... in addition, the purple flowers, used to growing in cold with little nutrients EXPLODED from the fertilizer produced by the grubs... Everywhere the Kin tribe travelled these flowers burst forth.... Purple Heather giving fragrance and adornment to all who would pick them.... (+1 permanent morale from PURFUME, renewable resource)

5. Joint research creates the "Last Gasp" spell, which gives a final push to disrupted or slain units in battle... though Matri found the applications of this to be a little unsettling...

The Kin Tribe moved to a barren rocky pitted area at the foot of the cliffs where only the purple heather seemed to grow along with strange seed-filled grass. The elders Identified the wiry and hardy plant as "Teosinte" -- a harsh weedy plant that was said to have made a bargain with main in ancient times -- if the covenant between Teosinte and Man could be rediscovered -- rekindled -- it was said that food would always be plentiful...

Prince Vaethorion Prince Vaethorion : Day 3

The River Tribe worked by the riverside with determination and purpose. The Lens-Pan of the dwarfs was invaluable for panning for gold, and 4 units of gold were found in a deep crevice at a drop in the river, it was almost impossible to see normally with falls and turbulence disturbing the water -- but with the lens to help large patches of glittering golddust was located and dived for successfully, and with the aid and guidance of water elementals such a great bounty was brought up from the depths. After using the water elemental spell so much it grew practiced and refined by the tribe, gaining Summon Water Elemental from the summon minor water elemental spell. Regular elementals were harder to control and required sacrafices and binding, but they were far mightier than the mere workers the minor elementals proved to be... the elders were eager to try their new spell and told river runs deep as much.

What was not expected but a pleasant surprise was that the lens also revealed idling and grazing areas for large fish deep on the sides of the riverbank. 15 units of food were captured entirely of fish, urchins, and crabs. With the Hunting team so close to the panning team they even found a little bit of time to play slingstone in the shade during the hottest time of the day -- and refined their techniques practicing in water to build strength and add resistance.

The chief and his best warriors and scouts searched in the direction of the lava plains to begin a hunt for the rumored dwarven diamonds anew. Scrying and prospecting at the site where the lava broke the surface of the ground, they learned that the diamonds were NORTH AND EAST of (I-5) and they found 1 unit of Topaz and 2 units of ancient amber being buried by the lava... the scryers were given hints as to where they would very specifically need to search. They saw Smoke and water, that the domes were hidden from plain sight... what could this mean? The diamonds were NOT in I-5, But word spread to all the tribes that the river clan were on the trail at least.

A last unit also operating along the river synergized with the lens panning and fishing groups -- 2 units of regular (drift) wood were found, along 1 one unit of ancient wood (Golden) and 2 units of sacred wood (Hard red bark with white heartwood) ... these were potentially good finds!

The elders had a great epiphany researching the astral spells of luck... They gained the Spell Twist fate (which allows or forces rerolls at great mana cost) as well as a special spell called "Golden Fortune" -- This powerful enchantment required sacrifice to cast, but could add substantial bonuses to endeavors the spell was used to favor, or units so enchanted before battle. Golden fortune was secret lore lost to the one people that had, by sheer dumb luck, been rediscovered by the elders. They would have to be careful with such power, and many elders said that if the spell were to be shared, it must not be done cheaply.

The first "True" Competitive games of Slingstone took place between the Bone Reavers Karcen Karcen tribe and the River tribe of Prince Vaethorion Prince Vaethorion -- Three games were played, with The Bone Reapers winning one game by a close margin and the River Clan winning two games handily. (however the Bone reapers gained the most experience by far) -- The River Tribe Gained +1 temporary morale.

DISCORD QUEST: Tribes can challenge each other to games of slingstone now. Games will be reffed on discord or determined by dice if parties cannot play simultaneously. Pat Pat

AngelCloud AngelCloud : Day 3:

The hunt by the skeletal amazons was successful beyond initial hopes... They found a great bear that was old and wounded from some battle with another great animal. Swiftly Dispatched, 12 food, 2 fur, 2 bone were recovered from the kill.

The Skeletal Amazons were the first tribe to develop "Forestry Tradition" -- which they could share or trade the knowledge of to other tribes -- by studying the forests and the different types of wood there they learned how to find not just a mixed bag of mundane wood and bits of special wood, but ways to find one type of wood exclusively by searching it out. They gained 6 units of Dryad wood, enough to use some for their fire as well as to use as resources/assets as discovered. Forestry tradition was a rare and valuable discovery -- and should not be abused, taken, or given lightly.

In the end it was not pottery that preserved the food of the Skeletal amazons... it was not salt, it was not smoking food with wood -- For the Skeletal amazons had discovered SPICES (+1 permanent morale) this knowledge could be traded and did not just enhance the flavor of the tribes food, but the great spiciness preserved it, repelling insects, curing molds and rots, and making food last longer for the process. The elders also proposed that spicy liquids could be built up a tolerance to and used as a weapon by the tribe if they wished to research/practice such methods -- the initial idea being that weapons were spiced with the hottest plants to aggravate wounds and increase pain and if they could build a tolerance, skeletal amazons could go into battle with mouthfuls of spicy concoction and attempt, at close range, to spray these chemicals in prey or opponents eyes. It would have to be seen if this technique was viable, but there was much talk about it.

The Elders researched Dryad wood but were having a rough time finding applications for it -- on the one hand, the sap, if repeatedly diluted to reduce toxicity, created a strength tonic that was also very tasty. Decision point: The tribe can perfect a TASTY "Dryad-Drink" (+1 permanent morale, tradable) or a BITTER "Strength Tonic"...

The Tribe moved east without incident, taking their newly gained rescuees with them...

Comrade in the Shade Comrade in the Shade : Day 3 --

"You make me want to die"

The Frost Keepers descended into the valley and pressed east as far as they could -- they knew the devils were behind them... signs they were already in the valley, and resolute in the knowledge that even more of the devils had followed them here.

The red sun broke ahead of them as they ran to catch the dawn, feeling.... SEEING the devils in pursuit of them down the stairs... the Frost Jarl, the Chieftess, and the entire tribe ran down the steps to get out of the shade of the rocks where the devils might to kill them... From there they rushed the shortening shadows across the slat flats, through desert, and into the valley proper... The devils were in hot pursuit as the Frost Keepers chased the sun that would literally save them. The cold of the desert dawn did not faze the frost keepers as they had braved harsher environs -- but as suddenly as they arrived it seemed they would be hunted to extinction... the tribe ran faster, stumbled forward in their fatigue, dividing into groups to commit to work even as they fled their pursuers. The tribe passed through the clay-flats and into the dappled sun of the forest and it was only then they could pause and realized the devils, while they had almost chased them down, had failed... they made it into the light, and into cover.

2 units of simple tools were cobbled together from the tailings of the other foraging groups... wood, stone, fibers... And as soon as these tools were made they were passed to the wood and stone gatherers.

With gathering canes and simple Blades Four Normal Wood was pushed down from younger and dead trees. still panting from their exertion to flee the devils the frost keepers gathered tirelessly. When the moon was on the rise the entire tribe was shaking, some were on the brink of tears, a full day of labor on top of the flight for their life made their eyes red and their knuckles white... but they would not cease.

2 units of quartz stone was found in a crack in the mountains to the north, a worthy find... anguished they dragged these spoils to camp.

With fatigue, NO FOOD was found... berries proved poisonous (Berry poison gained) nuts proved hard and bitter, gourds elusive. The Frost Keepers had a small amount of food with them, but it would not last long. New efforts would need to be made for a hunt or gathering the following day, but night began to creep upon them before the tribe found a single reliable source of food.

Britta and Bo helped the tribe move the heavy quartz stones to where they were setting up camp... And in doing so they moved through the lands of the crimson bat -- The Chiropteran Behemoth. Where the Frost keepers moved slowly now to the east, they started to see panicked tribespeople running in the other direction... chased by the great bat that plucked one after another from the ground, and as a final insult ran the panicked tribe of Eliasdagood Eliasdagood west through the Keepers camp and into the jaws of the receding Scraol.

The Cavara tribe, they were -- and they were beyond saving. Something had terrified them to their very cores even before the Chiropteran Behemoth began to follow them.... They pulled at their hair and clawed at their eyes crying "THE ABOLETH -- THE ABOLETH!" even as the bat devoured them... whatever this aboleth was had broken the spirit of the Cavara tribe like a twig and the frost keepers began to find that they fled with baggage -- tried to flee with what resources they had... which basically became a graveyard of litters of supplies as the Great bat killed the last of the stragglers even as the fastest Cavara ran past the keepers and into the teeth of the Scraol...

Just east of the Frost Keeper camp was much of the supplies of the Cavara, spoils now perched upon by the great crimson bat... 25 food, 1 ivory, 3 clay, 8 wood, 2 darkwood, 1 unit of pearls and 1 unit of precious shells lay scattered to the east of their camp... The great bat shrieked for The keepers to approach. It had a bargain to make...

Decision Point: Accept the audience of the Crimson Bat? The great Bat offers most of the wealth of the Cavara if the Keepers are brave enough to face it, either in battle or in sacrifice. (This encounter will be resolved in Discord if audience is accepted.) It represented a risk, but it also represented an ability to catch up somewhat on the tribes that were already here...

DAY 3 EVENTS/NEWS: (to be read by all)

Krigsgaldr Heilung

The tribes that had liberated the Yellow musk tribe and their prisoners had decided to do something odd with the resources they gained, wood and gold and other trinkets -- rather than dividing them, they united to build a permanent structure behind the waterfall -- a shrine... A great wooden Totem with outreached arms of logs and eyes and hands of gold. The "Striving Man" it was called -- and it was a permanent structure hidden with intent of defiance of the impermanence the scraol subjected the humans to -- that they must ever run.

They left their mark on the land in secret, and even if the totem had no power, which it surely did, it gave great buoyancy to the spirits of all in the valley that came to behold it. Offerings can be made at the striving man for special blessings. The power of the totem is yet to be seen...

Also, For creating this permanent structure All parties involved : Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon AngelCloud AngelCloud Karcen Karcen Prince Vaethorion Prince Vaethorion -- gain TWO CULTURE POINTS. They may give two free orders each on Day 4... and they should make note of their achievement when the season changes to SUMMER (special secret bonus!)

In addition, the nature refugees know several spells of which the tribes may choose 1 of the following (You may want to take different ones and share knowledge):
Nature Spells Learnable:

Vineseeker Arrow -- an arrow that when lands bursts into a flurry of growth to spread at or into the target. can be very damaging, especially if accurate.
Wild Growth -- Causes uncontrolled/unpredictable growth of plants and fungi.
Camoflage -- changes the color of units bearing this spell to blend with natural surroundings, especially, but not limited to, greenery.
Summon Animal(s) -- calls mundane animals to come forth as food or to serve as labor for a unit.
Brambles -- black tendrils of thorns form a low wall for offense (disrupt units) or to provide cover for a unit. May be poisonous.
Mannikin -- Can be cast on dead units to get them to return to combat on the side of the caster for the fight they died only... corpses are animated by wild vines that manipulate them like clumsy but powerful puppets. Can be cast on friendly or enemy casualties.

Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon NIGHT 3:

1. After the great speech of Baatar no-one spoke. The tribe in the dancing shadows of the fire could only hear the breathing of their kin as they each, young and old, lay their hands on the stones of truth -- purestone invested with blood thoughts, Elders shared first, and quietly guided the anticipated fear and confusion... forces that yielded to understanding... and then courage. The truth of the Scraol would not tear their spirit apart -- if anything, the Niislel gave birth the first inklings that it was the scroal that should bear fear and confusion... and let it be their bodies and spirits that be ripped apart in the times to come... The belief in the kinship to the scraol took root, and the Niislel shared thier beliefs along with their ways and luxuries with other tribes. In this way, Niislel culture crept subtly into the ways of every other tribe in the coalition -- for no other had stood in the place of Tundug like Baatar had, and none had strove so hard and succeeded so well in starting the coalition and the maintaining of the identity of the one people. When new times would come with the season, this influence would become more pronounced.

Baatar gains perk "New leader of the one people" -- this does not give him control over units that are not his own, but other tribes sympathize with the Niislel and in more apparent ways adopt aspects of their culture. Humans in the coalition will not happily harm the interests or the people of the Niislel, seeing themselves reflected in them. This perk will express itself fully in the next season when mechanics are introduced with it. (This perk is granted for promoting unity, unlocking mystery, and most primarily SHARING CULTURE.) It gives the Niislel ONE GLORY POINT. (the use of which is powerful and amorphous and as of yet unknown)

2. The great festival of the Niislel was bounteous and attracted many people from out of the darkness to join them. A fire so bright it's like had not yet been seen in the valley, a bounty of food seldom seen much less enjoyed at once. Great tales and lessons and dances carried on through the night, and games of slingstone were played beside the fire to everyone's entertainment. Things grew tense upon the arrival of the popotam, for they did not expect to see Inlor, an outcast, shielded as an ally by the Niislel. They explained to Baatar that Inlor was dishonored and they wanted him to return to his family to accept his judgement and punishment, but the alliance of the humans meant Inlor need not do that. Still, they did not want to ruin the festivities but kept their distance from their lost son of the popotam. Inlor's mother urged Baatar to convince Inlor to return home, but quickly put aside such dark clouds to drink and eat voluminously. The Niislel were perfumed and washed with ritual mud sigils painted over them gloriously, hairs combed and brushed to sparkling sheen and luxurious length. Warmed by fire and blanket, Spirited by brews and stuffed with food -- the party was a spectacle.

Niislel gain 4 units of people from festival, (from out the dark, maturity rituals, and the like)

INLOR moves to the tribe of the Alkira Karcen Karcen for day/night 4.

3. The creation of a "permanent, refined, magical, portable source of light and warmth" was a success, which with the loss of the secrets of purefire brought as great a sadness as it brought elation and joy -- The Niislel had succeeded in creating "Sunstones" -- 3 great blocks of purestone that burned as bright as two units of wood, never dying. These stones could augment an existing fire or serve as a substitute for one... but they were revealed to be unstable when kept together after the loss of purefire in the magical tapestry. Baatar would need to trade two of them away for him to keep any at strength -- but it begged the question what price could you put on such artifacts? And how much better would man have fared if this technology was lost so quickly after it's founding?

Baatar gains "3 units of Sunstones" -- remember these serve as 2-wood fires without consuming wood and can augment existing fires safely. Ownership of a sunstone (and only one can be owned for long) conveys +1 permanent morale.

4. With Geas and burning will it was only a matter of time, especially with all the other supporting resources, to turn the Kobolds from chiseling extortionists into true believers of the Niislel.
Word spread of the truth of human camaraderie and the redemption offered the kobolds -- and the kobolds embraced the humans of the valley as brothers. Not only does baatar gain 2 units of faithful kobolds, but all tribes are now able to "Hire" Kobolds for 4 food each, day or night to serve as brothers in their tribes. The raiding and extortion of the kobolds ceases in the valley, and there may not be a war with the kobolds this coming summer after all!

5. The Niislel elders develop with the tools, spells, and spirits two possible options for their banishment magic to take shape -- an improved version of the banish spell that served passably vs. everything, or a more powerful spell that only worked on unnatural forces, outsiders, infernals and summonates. Decision point: Tribe must choose "True Banishment" or "Dispel Outsider" as a new spell. The latter does not have any effect on creatures of this plane unless magically summoned.

Kent Kent / (and partly) Twist Twist : Night 3

1. A strong fire raged over Night 3 and the Blood tribe continued their kinship. While the Scraol moved beyond the red haze, the stink of some of their blood was spilled over the fire in defiance and this defiance and lack of fear kept the devils at bay... for now. The scraol still stood ready to grab any human that strayed too far from the light, but that opportunity never came. The Blood and Kin tribe stood tall, and enjoyed work as well as repose together, strengthening their bonds as people. And if the "Devils" did not have reason to stay their fangs and claws before the great work of Strygwyr, there would be no denying it after...

2. Processed in discord

3. First the statue of the blood tribe was called "The great work" -- and it was great. Made of (2) obsidian and (2) purestone, refined and sheened with gypsum additives to the physically and magically and dwarven techniqued stone the whole thing was a black and blue composite with a white shine from pristine matter and gypsum. It looked dark in the day and bright in the night, the ruby eyes of Strygwyr looking into the souls of the beholder, it was a true monument, bathing in blood that ran from the ruby and stone blade of the statue. The blood of the scroal eternally ran from the weapon of Strygwyr -- just as the blood tribe had been the first to draw and take, the blood of the devils. The Elf Shaman Aollo used pristine matter to make the statue strangely supple, almost alive, one might think the muscles of the form rippled and the brow sweat. The Dwarf Noraldruki, paid a princely sum, guided the human laborers and refined (and in places undid) their work to make the best product possible. What it represented was unheard of. Something of permanance in defiance of the scraol by the light of the moon and clear by the light of day. Even if the Blood tribe left it, folk were hard pressed to think what powers would be needed to slight the monument, much less take it down. "For Blood, By Blood, Of Blood" -- with intent and regard, invested the statue giving it power, giving it belief... giving it WONDER. finally, a heart of molten core capped with a ruby tattoo increased it's spelndor. Blood Tribe gains 1 GLORY POINT.

It was thought that the "Great work" would be a personal symbol of the Blood tribe, but it was not to be -- it became fused with the myth and legend of the striving man, Strygwyr could not dispell this mysticism even if he wanted to, and soon humans from all over the valley regarded and left offerings at "the great work" instead of "the striving man" -- until the names were interchangable. Strygwyr was the manifestation of the "Striving Man" made flesh... and the "great work" was a symbol for ALL tribes, not just the blood tribe. The original striving man was dismantled and it's consisted resources laid at the foot of the new Striving Man...

Every Tribe that contributed resources to the ORIGINAL "Striving Man" Gains 2 wood, 2 stone, 2 clay and 2 gold -- unless they REJECT the "Great work" -- the great work may come to confer considerable meaning and bonuses in the season to come, so reject at the peril of sadness in the hearts of your tribes, that want this symbol to represent them.

4. Research and ritual with the blood cauldron combined with the ent heart baptised the blood tribe and changed them in unpredictable ways. They grew heartier and more robust, sleeping more heavily, healing more rapidly, clinging to their spirits more tenaciously. From now on when the blood tribe gets new members they may choose to be nature or blood devotion, but cannot change back and forth. Thus tied to the land, They would be harder to remove from it by force -- All blood tribe d8 save dice (especially vs. death) are at +1. They may also save vs. disruption if GM permits. The Kin tribe, though not involved in the blood baptism, gain this same bonus through "genetic association" as a result of their cultural practices and mixing with the Blood tribe, if they wish to adopt this power. Twist Twist

5. The Kin and Blood tribe work with Noraldruki and the Elf Shaman to create a spell of Sanctuary based on the tenets of banishing spells/undercurrents in the blood magics. Sanctuary was an absurdly expensive spell mana wise, and had to be anchored in place with a sacrifice of wood or stone to make an idol or Menhir for the effect to last any real length of time... but the creation of the spell was a success. Cast in combat it could increase the defense of defensive troops or create area denial for an enemy on a tactical level. On a day to day level a sufficient expenditure of mana and resources could even potentially render a place protected from even the Scraol and other dangers! (experimentation needed)

6. The Blood Unity Festival was a huge success. Twist Twist and Kent Kent both recieve 2 culture points, and 5 units of people each, or instead of 1 unit of people 2 units of kobolds can be attracted instead.
The use of powerful ritual tools brings forth a baby boom and a new crop of children coming of age healthier and braver than ever. The music and festivities coupled with the great work however push the Scraol too far, and they do not aggress this night, but will do so the following night. It is a party the likes of which and the enjoyment thereof is unheard of for such a cold and dire time -- but the scraol are incensed, flatly challenged in the face of it to do something lest they lose their terrifying reputation. Any tribe can decide to dedicate forces (or withhold them) from Night 4's confrontation with the Scroal. Tonight, produces +2 Temporary morale for the Blood and Kin tribe both, but the Scraol attack event is written in the stars... (new units can be considered of blood OR nature devotion)

Twist Twist (postscript, Read above!) Night 3.

The Feast and Fertility rite was a smashing success -- so glorious it earned the spite of the Scraol, who dared not interfere... but they would be coming for blood. Still, in the moment it was as if the Scraol never existed. Matri Midwi delivered several babies, and more than a handful of youths came of age under those moons in the happiest ways possible. The Blood and Kin tribe SWOLE with size, many outsiders finding a home in the tribes. (see above)

Playing with and developing characters quickly became a game that caught on in the Kin tribe, which spread to the Kin and Niislel tribes as well... blood culture became synonymous with what was rapidly becoming WRITING. Anyone can adopt or recieve in "trade" "Grain of Literacy" from the Kin tribe to gain a culture point... each such point gained gives the Kin Tribe a culture point also, cumulative. It was in this way that the Kin tribe made the "Stones speak" -- and had the greatest hand in developing the first set of symbols that substituted spoken language. Stories and facts began to be recorded in the clay, and this contribution to humanity gave the Kin Tribe POWER. Kin tribe gains 1 GLORY POINT. Only the Niislel had their own nuances to written language that came from the runes of the origin and destiny stone... and further research, if the Niislel and Kin tribe worked together -- promised the discovery of MAGICAL WRITING. Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon

Kin and Blood tribe gain the spell Sanctuary (described above) that has short term and longer term applications.

Matri Midwi creates the myth/tradition of the "Bloody Mother" which is celebrated every season. It gives any tribes wishing to emulate the tradition a +2 TEMPORARY morale bonus. (for spring AND summer)
Toys "invented" become a luxury/culture item -- Toys give +1 permanent morale and can be traded as a renewable commodity.

Heterological Heterological Night 3:

1. The Rion worked and rested in almost disturbing quiet. A rogue scraol stormed the campsite, killing a man and running away with a baby. The Elders cautioned that larger fires might be needed in the future -- at least for the time being. The scraol were growing restless in the valley and the Rion did not feel safe. (no units lost but fear is mounting)

2. Despite this terrorizing by the devils, Zian and his tribe still held a fairly modest feast -- which brought up some of the younger members officially into adulthood and even attracted some interesting strangers from northeast of the Valley -- They were slow to talk of where they came from, but they were of the earth devotion and glad to be among a stronger tribe that exercised a different magic. ( Pat Pat can help you pick two starting earth spells, handle on discord) -- 1 fire devotion unit and 1 earth devotion unit gained.

3. The skinning knives made of topaz came out more than functional and beautiful... they were masterful. Deadly sharp, fine, light, and quick... they rapidly became appreciated not just as skinning tools but as ready instruments of death. The Rion gained 1 unit of skinning tools and 1 unit of "Assassin blades" which give the perk "First Strike"

4. Zian himself and his retainers worked as best they could enhancing the popotam belt of strength, both conventionally and magically. There were three directions they could take it's enhancements in, but they would have to choose: (Decision point to be decided in discord):

A) It could be made Imposing: (Awe (1) and Fear (5))
B) It could have it's original enchantment enhanced: Grants "Giant Strength"
C) It could be made more versatile: Gains "personal shield" and "Spider-Climb"

5. Elders research different avenues melding Fireblast with the dying magic of purefire and came up with two options: (Decide on discord)

"Hand of Excoriation" -- a touch/close-range spell that burned with a holy fire -- it was devastating (delivering accumulated fire blast damage to a single target) and is especially effective burning fur and the undead.

"Ray of Conflagration" -- causes fear in the living and confusion in the dead, This beam attack can be directed and sustained on a single target or spread among multiple targets. Targets struck take fire damage, and stand the risk of catching fire setting other units or targets on fire.
