Fantasy Cursed Island

"I cannot see that as a bad thing at present," Jalin agreed as they headed back to the inn to see what the others thought.

Emilia blinked as they shared what they’d found. “A possible house for each of us then? I’ve always wondered what it would be like having my own place, decorating it as I please.” She smiled. “Sounds good to me.”

Nidia tilted her head. “They still need to be fixed up though, right? It’ll be a good bit of work before anyone’s decorating those places. Still, I’d be happy to have a guaranteed place to rest.”

"The question remains of are they occupied, however," Jalin reminded them. "We would need to secure permission if the owners yet live, and spend considerable effort repairing and modifying the buildings." He sighed, "If necromancy were not frowned upon, the dead could have this town rebuilt in less than a week."

Nidia shrugged. “Well, the living have made good progress so far. Does that mean we’ll be sticking around here a while to help the town recover?”

"We will have to, if we intend to stay here," Turac nodded.

"I'm game," Siege shrugged, "How many trees we gotta yank to the mill?"

"It's more than that," Jalin shook his head, "Nails must be pried from the wreckages, the smith must be able to carve more out of iron sheets, full repairs of the town will take at least a month, even with our help."

“Hm...” Roy thought for a moment before looking at Nidia. “Do you still have the map? How far is the next settlement?”

Nidia unfolded the map and set it out to look. “Ah... closest place looks to be the capital, Sylvas.”

“Perhaps some of us can head there and request some aid.”

"Interesting," Jalin nodded, "And this will hopefully be easier than trying to retrieve the waterstone, I hope."

"I'm game," Siege shrugged, "Can't be too far away, right?"

"Everything is closer than Elyon!", Turac laughed, "We're a country away!"

Siege blinked "You've been wanting to use that line, haven't you?"

"... mom stopped taking me places when I was six, I don't get to go on adventures like you guys..."

Nidia giggled As Roy shook his head. "Well then, who all wants to go to Sylvas and who would rather stay here to keep helping?"

"I think," Jalin said, "We should determine that by who is most helpful here." He nodded to Siege and Turac, "Surely the townsfolk can use your help in moving heavy wooden and stone things, whereas Roy is essentially useless for such."

Roy gave him a look, but he honestly couldn't argue. Emilia nodded. "I haven't found much to help with either."

Siege groaned, "Fine..."

Jalin tapped his cane, "My ability to perform physical labor to the same degree is severely limited, I suspect my handicap will hinder more than it will help."

Roy, Jalin, Emilia, "Is Sinach coming as well?"

"Yeah, I'm coming!", Sinach called from Emilia's carapace.

Nidia tilted her head. "Should I go, too? My music can help her, but I'm sure they can manage without."

"As you wish," Jalin nodded, "Speaking of," he fished Nidia's amulet out of his vest, "I forgot to return this to you."

Jalin nodded an stood from the chair, "Well, I suppose myself, Roy, and Emilia must prepare to leave, then."

"You have true sight," Jalin nodded towards Roy, "You are half Fey," he nodded towards Emilia, "And I do not require light. We can cover more ground quickly if we move swiftly and quietly."

"It's not a matter of sight. It's that the more dangerous creatures hunt at night. If we travel now, we'll have to stay alert the whole way, more so than if we traveled during the day."
