Fantasy Cursed Island

Roy looked over at Shuffle, who was now smiling eagerly, and sighed. "Alright then. I suppose the sooner we get help, the sooner this can be finished."

"And the sooner we will have a town at our disposal," Jalin agreed. "Shuffle, I hope you know how to behave in public?"

"Oh, she knows," Turac shook his head ruefully, "But she's easy to take care of," he reached over to scratch behind her ears as he said that.

Shuffle blinked as he reached over before visibly relaxing as he scratched, staying upright to lean into his hand as she closed her eyes but otherwise going nearly limp. Her tail was far from limp and instead became a tripping hazard.

Jalin sighed, "Well, let's get our provisions for a few days out of the wagon," he nodded to the others, "If this goes well, we shan't be gone more than a week!"

"Yeah, yeah," Siege waved it off, "You kill my brother I'm gonna kill you." Only Siege got to bully her twin.

Roy glanced at Siege. “And if he reanimates me, feed him to Shuffle afterward.”

Shuffle paused before giving Jalin a curious look, as if wondering what he tasted like.

The room went quiet, until the sound of Jalin's cane tapping broke the silence, "Come on, then." He turned and started walking to leave the inn.

Sinach darted to Emilia to climb her shoulder and ride along as they went to get supplies, preparing to move on, and beginning to walk along the road towards the capital while the villagers still mourned.

Emilia smiled at Sinach before turning her focus to the road ahead. As they left the village behind and got back to the main road, she took a deep breath. "There's something different about the air at night."

"It's the humidity," Jalin answered. "When the sun goes down the world cools enough the water suspended in the clouds returns to the earth." he tapped his nose, "The olfactory glands of humanoidds are far more effective when there is moisture in the air." He smiled, satisfied with the explanation. "It's the same reason you can smell a storm coming. You aren't smelling the storm, you're smelling everything else that you couldn't because the air was too dry."

Emilia blinked. "Oh. Well, it's less mystical when you put it like that, but interesting all the same."

Roy glanced up. "I wonder if I can take advantage of that with the water stone... Make the air humid to enhance your ability to smell."

"I doubt it," Jalin replied, "My nose is not more sensitive than yours. I am simply better trained to use it." Jalin's nose was strengthened, not limitless.

"As long as you keep that water away from me," Sinach decided, "We're all good."

"I suppose we'll see if we have the opportunity to try it." Roy glanced at Sinach. "And I won't get you wet without reason."

Roy just smiled and looked ahead. Emilia reached a hand back to try and pat the paper dragon as she spoke up. "If you get me wet though, you're going to have to be the one to dry both my clothes and my hair."

"Noted..."

Sinach eagerly accepted the petting as the village left view an earshot, and they were on their own now.

Jalin hummed to himself as they walked, not really a tune so much as something besides crickets to listen to.

Shuffle watched Sinach get pet before walking up next to Roy and nudging him. Roy looked over at her. "What?"

Shuffle gave him a sad look and whined.

"Oh, fine." Roy reached over to pet her head, to which she smiled happily.

"It sounds as though there is canine in her," Jalin noted. "Do you know what her base materials are?"

Roy shook his head. "No. I don't even know how she looked to start. But you're right, she does show canine tendencies at times. And feline. And dragonic..."

"Was she built without a blueprint?" That was strange, making a flesh golem took way more planning than a clay one. You needed to know exactly what each component was and what was in it.

Shuffle spoke up. "My maker kept a journal. It's got a lot of complicated stuff in it, but there's some drawings of what I used to look like."

“I think mom was looking into it at one point.”

Shuffle tilted her head. “I think Niudisa looked into it at one point, but she never kept the book for long.”

Jalin frowned at that, "It seems like lady Niudisa would have understood her construction easily," she'd sure made her share of flesh golems in the process of teaching Jalin that trick. It was child's play to a seasoned necromancer.
