Fantasy Cursed Island

"Thank you," Turac nodded.

Siege was quiet for a moment, "What about you? Have you seen anything interesting in your experiences?"

"Hm... Nothing particularly grand, I'm afraid. My duties as prince keep me from wandering too far from home."

"Are you certain?", Siege asked, trying to take an interest in politics for once if it meant she'd make any progress, "It can't be all boring."

"Well... There have been some...unusual disputes that have been brought before the court."

The king chuckled at that.

"There was a pair of farmers with neighboring fields. One of them bought a cow, but it insisted on eating in the neighbor's field. Even building a fence didn't stop it. The two farmers ended up coming to father to determine who owned the cow: the one who bought it or the one who was feeding it?"

"Slaughter the cow, divide the meat," Turac shrugged, "That seems the easiest solution. If you cannot take care of your belongings yourself, are they really yours to begin with?"

The king shook his head. "It was a dairy cow, and it still produced milk. In the end, I offered they share their techniques for maintaining their grazing fields. When the first farmer tried the second's method, the cow stopped wandering."

"That also works," Turac nodded.

"That's interesting," Siege raised her eyebrows as she thought of how that would work.

“Part of ruling is knowing how to best handle your people’s problems. I am their leader after all.”

"The monarch of our homeland would have simply ordered the cow be bred, and the original owner raise the calf," Jalin mentioned, "But your ruling requires less struggle on all sides."

“And it improved the original owners field as a result, as well as forming a partnership between the two.”

Fitzroy chuckled. “My father certainly gives me a lot to live up to...”

"Well," Siege chuckled, "You're not the only one." Lions already had a regal-like reputation, and her father being the lion of a chimera only compounded that.

"My existence sets a high standard," Siege shrugged, "Lions are supposed to be the king of the beasts, and then the gods gave everyone thumbs and a brain."

Fitzroy chuckled. “Well, I wish you luck with that. Here’s hoping you can find your kingdom some day.”

"Oh, i don't want a kingdom," Siege shook her head, "Just a little more stability than I've got."

Siege almost suggested that maybe Fitzroy could run away, but with the king and all the nobles there... bad idea. "Does it really seem that bleak, to be a monarch?"

“Oh, no, it’s not that. The throne is my inheritance. When I step up as king, it means my father would be dead, or close to it.”

"Oh..." Siege didn't like the idea of her father dying, either. "I don't think I'd like it if my daddy died, either."

"Well," Jalin raised his cup, "Here is hoping that your rule will be as successful as your fathers!"
