Fantasy Cursed Island

Raine looked over from where she’d been sitting around. “Ah, yeah.” She hopped back to her feet.

"Great!", Jerry nodded, "You've got where the spots are pretty much down pat." She drew her sword, "Now try to hit them against a resistant target."

Raine looked hesitant as Jerry drew her weapon, but she pulled out the knife she'd been given anyway. She took a breath before running forward to try attacking her legs.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you," Jerry smiled as she side-stepped and twirled her rapier to redirect Raine's dagger to go straight down. "You don't have an armor ring, so I can't go all out with you for a long time."

Raine still squeaked as her attack was deflected and stepped back. She nearly dropped the knife. “R-right... It’s still intimidating to see that thing swing at me though...”

"Big swords are intimidating," Jerry agreed, "But like any tool it's a blunt object if used wrong." She felt a bit of heat rise to her face at some giggles from onlookers taking her words to apply to other things. "Shut up!" In 'shh!'ing the party, though, she'd gotten distracted and Raine was easily able to land a 'fatal' strike.

Raine didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity, running in again and jumping to strike at one of the slightly higher spots.

Raine was easily able to put Jerry down for a tumble due to her distraction, putting the rogue on the ground, face down and back end in the air. Emfa broke out laughing, "Nice view!", she gave a thumbs up to the agitated rogue.

Raine jumped away as Jerry fell, partly out of caution and partly to avoid getting landed on.

Erina looked over at Emfa’s cheer and offered her own thumbs up before continuing to work.

"Ow," Jerry grumbled as she worked to get her knees under her and then her feet. "That doesn't count, I was distracted!"

"The battlerfield is distracting," Joanne shook her head and rolled her eyes as she passed by, "If you allow your mind to wander, you will die."

“That’s, uh, what I was going for.” Raine was actually just an opportunist by nature. “Again?”

Jerry grumbled and rubbed sore spots when she'd hit the ground, "Yeah, gimme a sec," she did some prodding to make sure Poli wasn't bleeding and, finding no injuries, raised her sword to continue, this time a bit more focused on what was at hand.

--------------

Beri eventually found his way to Erina, "Do you believe you could dye my fur as you do your fabric?"

Raine focused once more as well. Jerry was watching this time, so she'd see her coming. She had to be either faster, or unpredictable. She decided to try for faster first and charged again.

----------

Erina glanced over. "Hm? Mm, perhaps. My fabric is white to begin with though, so the colors show up better. I'm uncertain how it will look with your dark fur." She paused. "And I should warn you that it would be similar to a bath..."

Speed and stealth had been Jerry's bread and butter for a while when it came to combat. Raine succeeded in pushing Jerry back, but not in landing any blows. Jerry was good at what she was doing. "Keep it up, you're getting there!"

-------------
Beri thought about that. Was having his fur its natural color again worth a bath? "How often would this need to be done to maintain the color?"

Raine's lack of landed hits was a bit discouraging, but Jerry's encouragement pushed her to keep trying.

----------

"Not often, I don't think. I highly doubt you'd be getting your fur wet very frequently, so it should last a while. My rough guess would be maybe...every thirty days? Probably longer than that, if you don't mind it being slightly faded."

"You're being predictable," Jerry called after a bit, "Stomach, thigh, knee, stomach, you're making it too easy to be picked apart." Jerry twirled her sword and drove the blade back into the ground. "Mix it up, use your badge. You're fast and nimble, if you wanted you could get between my legs and hamstring me before I realized you were there."

--------------
Beri thought about that. His shedding depended mostly on the weather, and he'd been shedding quite a bit the further down they got. "I do not think that will work," he said after a moment. Even if bleaching his fur did work, he'd shed the dyes out in a week, most likely, so he'd likely need a magical way to color his fur. Perhaps he could have Adran and Niudisa put their heads together and re-enchant his sleigh ring with that ability.

Raine had to stop a moment to pull her blade from the ground. Once she had it, she looked at Jerry again. So she was on the right track with her ideas, at least. She narrowed her eyes before going again, trying the same thing as before for about three hits before faking an attack to draw a reaction, then ducking the side and jumping for Jerry's side.

----------

"Ah. Well, if you change your mind, I'm willing to assist."

Raine's predictability worked against Jerry that time, as a move to block Raine's strike at her stomach left her side wide open for Raine to get into, and put Jerry on the ground again.

--------------------

Beri nodded and went to go find Adran. That elf had spells in his repertoire that could be used to change his appearance minorly, but perhaps with Niudisa's help they could devise something. Adran was working with some bits and bobs near Niudisa's worktable, zoned out for the most part while he worked.

Normally that would be a great chance to follow up, but since it was training, Raine stopped as Jerry fell. She was actually a bit surprised by how easily Jerry fell down. She figured that big tail would help.

----------

Niudisa was at her work table, just turning back to her work as Shuffle was just leaving.

Jerry grumbled something about that tail not helping at all once she got up, she'd gotten used to moving around with it, but in melee combat it was still a foreign appendage that threw offher balance. Like growing another arm, just because the use seemed straightforward didn't mean applying it was, especially when you were used to and had little experience outside of working with a specific configuration of limbs for the task at hand. "This would be easier if the dragon hadn't gotten involved," Jerry muttered as she got to her feet again.

-------------------

"Adran." Beri didn't get a response from the elf until he bit his master's boot and Adran almost jumped out of his skin.

"Gods, Beri you almost died," Adran put a bubble around what he'd been working on. likely that was an exaggeration, most of Adran's experiments weren't nearly as potentially lethal as Niudisa's or even Erina if she were inclined, and as far as Beri was aware Erina still had not produced a leash for Shuffle.

"I have a request of the two of you," Beri tried to get Niudisa's attention as well. "I know neither of you can inflict glamour-"

"I can-"

"I said glamour, not Disguise Self or Polymorph," Beri cut Adran off, "Could you two perhaps engineer an effect to put on my sleigh ring to keep my fur in its proper pattern?"

Raine tilted her head. "Are you alright?"

----------

Niudisa looked over. "Erina couldn't help, huh? I've got some experience with enchanting. We might be able to enchant something similar to an illusion spell make his fur change color."

"When I started this dungeon, I didn't have all these dragon parts," she gestured to her tail, wings, and arm, "Fully human, born and raised. Then I made use of a shard from a dracolich phylactery," she fished out the shard she was currently wearing, "And now when I get hurt the body part turns draconic, and I've got a second personality in the dragon swimming around somewhere, she hasn't made her presence known for a while, I'm hoping she's gone."

------------
Beri shook his head, "Erina could help, but as much as I shed it would not be worth the weekly baths in dye." Adran chuckled at that.

"Let it never be said you aren't consistent," Adran shook his head, "I've still got your sleigh ring, but you know in order to put it back on you're gonna have to die?"

Raine blinked. “You’ve actually fused with a dragon?”

—————

Niudisa looked at Adran. “Remind me again why he’d have to die first?”

Jerry shook her head, "Pieces of it." She spread her arms, "The phylactery was about this big." She pulled out her current shard, "And I've only merged with what was in two pieces this size."

--------------

"Phoenix," Adran gestured to Fia. "When Fia dies, she experiences rebirth into a small child. When Beri died in the fire, he experienced rebirth as a cub."
