Neither here, nor there.
Resigning on his search for information, Darious had returned to the waiting room adjacent to where the hospital was holding his comrade and slid into a chair with a heavy sigh. Teristos, Awakenings, mass casualties and an unexplained turn of events as to how this supposedly organized test ended up. As the pirate mulled the information over in his chair, a solemn faced nurse approached him slowly, pulling him from his brooding
"I'm sorry to say this, but your friend's injuries were too extensive for us to treat. We did all we could but in the end, she was given sedatives to ease her suffering and slipped from this world." She continued after a moment to compose herself. "I'm so sorry... If the Hiringu had been here, there may have been a chance..." her voice wavered then trailed off into silence."
"I understand, and thank you for all of your efforts. Don't look so glum, I have no doubts that you have helped to save many lives this day. Can't save them all." he finished with a sigh.
The nurse nodded then quietly slipped away.
He visited her room once more to say farewell and give the doctors instructions as to what they should do with the body.
Darious produced a small ornate vial from his pocket and handed it to the nearest doctor leveling him with a steady gaze. "Sprinkle the contents of this vial over her body then cremate her along with spiced wood and the empty vial then send the ashes to the Pirate Faction in a jar that they may scatter them across the seas. A burial fit for a captain." he finished with a slight bow of his head.
The doctor nodded as he took the vial and set it aside. The vial consisted of a blend of scented oils which were extracted from some of the lush plant life native to The Isles. It was ancient tradition, one that had been carried through the Pirate bloodlines over the centuries and was common practice to those families that had captains amidst them.
One last thing to do, Darious needed to check in with his faction. For this he slipped up to the roof of the hospital. The pirate whistled a haunting melody that echoed from the roof top, and a few minutes later he spotted the parrot that would carry his update back to the faction. It chirped curiously from his shoulder, cocking its head as if it sensed something terrible had happened. Darious paused from his writing and looked at the bird from the corner of his eye.
"Yeah, I'm afraid it's bad news old friend" he offered before returning to the parchment.
He conveyed his findings and the news of a great captain's death in battle on a piece of the Pirate Faction's traditional parchment; also indicating that her ship was still in a nearby harbor and he would take possession of it and what was left of the crew until they could return it to her family. His final notes stated his intentions and after one last read through, he signed the message, and rolled it up tightly so it would fit in the tube strapped to the parrots leg.
Darious held up his arm and the bird hopped down from his shoulder. He offered the messenger bird a food pellet that it accepted happily then speaking softly as he stroked the parrots head said "This pellet will give you the strength and energy you need for a direct flight back home. Fly with haste old friend!"
The bird nudged the side of Darious' cheek in response before he threw his arm up sending it on its voyage home.
He had been aware of the messenger's presence ever since he conveyed the instructions to the doctors about Danielle's cremation. They had also followed him to the roof. Darious called over his shoulder as he watched the bird slip from sight.
"Thank you for respecting my privacy while I've been handling my affairs sir messenger! As for the bird? Just some notes on my findings since I've been here. i have been given instructions to cooperate with your people but I'm sure that my findings are nothing you and you're people are not already aware of I ensure you. Now tell me. What information are you authorized to give me, that I am unaware of? It seems some unforeseen circumstances have emerged that were never factored into this organized test for the graduates."
