MERFOLK
there are many species of merfolk. shark merfolk, whale merfolk, orca merfolk, lionfish merfolk, you name it! Merfolk's tails are different depending on their species and are not limited to your classic merfolk tails from The Little Mermaid. hybrid merfolk are possible to exist as well but it's rather uncommon to see. they are able to eat human food and survive solely on that, but they have a knack for seafood and aquatic plants. merfolk have been said to have healing powers and have been known to help sailors from shipwrecks and storms.

SELKIES
they are seal folk. they will shed their seal skin to become a human on land and they will return to the sea as a seal. humans will often lock away a selkie’s seal skin to trap the selkie on land and prevent them from returning to the sea. like with the merfolk, they have been known to save sailors from drowning. they’re sleek and graceful, often being friendly towards humans but do not wrong them because they will never forget. never keep a selkie from the sea. they have been known to be able to summon seals and they can survive in freezing cold temperatures.

SIRENS
not to be mistaken as a merperson, nor are they half-bird half human hybrids, sirens will feed on the flesh of humans and other creatures for nutrients. They are able to consume human food but ultimately, they'll die if they don't consume flesh. They live in bodies of water that are dense with fog so you cannot see them. They have a melodic singing voice that will put the hearers into some sort of trance like state, compelling the people on board a ship to abandon the ship and swim towards the sweet songs. The sailors will either drown before they can reach the siren or they will reach the siren, being met with a person sitting upon the rocks. Before the sailor, the siren's appearance will change from human like to more aquatic. Thin slits for pupils, gills on their ribs and neck, their teeth slowly growing to become more serrated and dagger like, and their legs will slowly transform into a tail. Their fingernails grow into fishhook like claws and before the sailor can react, the siren is upon them, digging teeth into flesh and feasting upon them. unlike the merfolk, sirens are only of the fish species, so they have fish tails of various fish species like tuna, salmon, bass, etc.

VAMPIRES
a vampire is someone who must feed on the blood of others in order to survive. they wear special ringlets that can be clipped onto clothing, worn around the finger, or hanging from a piece of string as a necklace that will protect them from the sun's rays. as long as they have this ring. They are repelled by the strong smell of garlic due to their hyper sense of smell. They have two pointed fangs in their mouth for piercing into blood vessels. The offspring of a vampire and human is a dhampir. Legend says that being bit by a vampire without dying will turn you into a vampire yourself. As per classic legend, vampires can be staked through the heart.

WEREWOLVES
a werewolf is a person who transforms into a 6 foot (or taller) wolf-like creature whenever the moon is full. werewolves are both bipedal and quadrupedal, able to go from walking on two legs to four legs as they please. whenever a werewolf transforms back into their human self, they usually have no memory of what happened that night unless others tell them what they did. a werewolf's saliva is infectious and just one bite can pass on the curse of the werewolf, causing the poor bitten soul to become a werewolf themselves. werewolves are strong and are able to drag something up a tree with no problems and their speed is remarkable. They can be killed with a stab of a dagger or weapon with a blade of silver.
