Fantasy Code FERAL

Up to this point Wednesday had stayed all but silent, letting the whirlwind of personalities around her show here where to go and what to do. Wednesday had noticed one of the others had a snake and kept her distance, while Cerci had seen the tiger and been in a bad mood since then. That was until they got out in the snow, anyway.

Wednesday had refused to take any part in the snow fight that had happened and even now preferred to snuggle into her warm coat- though the fires did make the place quite toasty.

Now, however, she noticed that someone had gotten up to find some hot chocolate.

That sounds really good. Should I go with him?

Sure, maybe you'll actually make a friend. Can I come too? I can help, tell you want to say, you know how you get.

No.... you stay out here, You're better at interacting with large groups anyway.

Hmph, fine.

With that, Wednesday stood to follow Bael, albeit she was quite a bit behind him. She walked softly and turned a corner into the kitchenette to see the scraggily dark haired boy scavenging through cabinets. Seeing he'd already found the things for hot chocolate, though, she felt the need to critique his choice in ingredients.

"You do know real hot chocolate is made with milk, not water, right?" Wednesday asked, her voice wasn't harsh, but it certainly wasn't friendly either.

@Sleipnir

Cerci, on the other hand, had a brilliant time in the snow, though she didn't really spend it doing anything but frolicking and trying to convince Wednesday to join her.

She didn't, of course.

After Wednesday left, Cerci simply continued listening.

Bael frowned, turning to look at Wednesday as she appeared in the semi-dark room like some sort of ghost. "Well — we can't exactly heat milk on the fire, can we?" He pointed out a bit uncertainly. Real polite, that — never met someone? Sure, let's start with menial criticism. Great plan. It wasn't leaving Bael with a terribly positive impression of this girl. "...Right. Anyway, do you see any tea around here?" He asked, opening a cabinet. "Real tea, not the iced stuff they make out of powder. Tea begs?" He added, glancing at her. He didn't really know what to say to her. She was leaving kind of a cold feeling in the room as far as Bael could tell and he was eager to get back to the others, seeking refuge with the group he didn't really know yet.

@Hel

"Well, I mean you could, people do it all the time. It's just hard to heat it up correctly." Wednesday said with a shrug as she turned to try and find some tea. It sounded pretty decent to her, though honestly she was just trying to make a friend and help him find what he was looking for.

For some reason, though, she got the impression that she may have been going about it wrong.
Whatever, I'm striking up conversation, and that's how Cerci said you make friends, so that's what I am doing. Wednesday thought to herself as she searched through the cabinets. After a few minutes of searching she found a tiny box of what appeared to be some kind of loose leif plant. The label said tea, though, so maybe that was what he wanted.

"Hey... um... I found some. At least it says it's tea. It's not a tea beg though, and I have no clue why anyone would drink it like this." She said with a bit of a shrug before turning to hand Bael the tin. She'd never really seen loose leaf tea before.

Bael scoffed a bit but didn't comment on the little poke on his accent. "You put it in a strainer," he clarified. He found one such tea ball in the silverware and took the tea. "Thanks." With that he turned to head back to the group. "Could you bring some mugs?"

When he appeared at the fire again, he presented what he had found to the others somewhat triumphantly. "Hot chocolate for all," he announced, setting it all near the fire. He was eager to have some himself and hoped the others would be as pleased as he was himself to have the supplies now.

@Everyone

Amber made a note to thank the gorilla later. She had an idea that Jimbo had played a big part in getting the two of them onto this mission.

She met Simon's eyes and felt a little strength return to her. The man had always been the rock in their team, what kept them grounded and focused. The hand on her shoulder was warm and she lifted her own to touch it, though something made her hesitate. Instead it took the photo gingerly and she gazed at the smiling figures. She was thankful that Simon had turned away, she did the same, but it was to hide the tears that came up unbidden as she looked at the faces of the agents that had died that day. She wiped them away quickly and pocketed the photograph. Never again she promised herself. Never again.

@zCrookedz

Alec at that point decided to make himself useful and go and help with the hot chocolate. He met Beth, Wednesday and Bael in the kitchen too and busied himself with looking for milk.

"You said you were an outdoors-y sort of person," It was more a statement than a question. "I take it you can probably track then. I have a feeling agent Strong is going to put you in charge of finding our AWOL friends."

Alec heard the call for mugs just as he opened a cupboard that happened to contain them.

"Gotcha covered man." He said and tossed a pair to Bael. The rest he unloaded onto the counter and continued to peer into the fridge.

"No milk but, there's a bit of cream. I find if you mix that with a good part water and an extra spoon of powder it usually turns out ok."

"Marshmallows!" Duik called from his place at the fire.

"I don't think there are any."

"But...marshmallows...look again."

Alec sighed and obliged his partner, wondering why he did.

@Flutterby @Hel @Sleipnir

Beth grinned as the hot chocolate was okay-ed by the boss lady. Everyone seemed to be getting along really well. It appeared that Zoe was reaching out to Rin, and Strong and Simon were conversing quietly with each other. This was going better than expected. She took a moment to shed her outer layers and relieve Totus of his. The owl flew over to the fire, perching on the mantle. The firelight glinted in his coal-black eyes, making them look as if they glowed from within. Totus listened quietly to the conversations, not really looking to join in, but hoping to learn more about his fellows.

Beth thought about going over to Leandra to find out more about Manjano, but she was enjoying the fire, and she didnt want to pry. Instead, she scampered to the kitchenette, and did what she could to help the others.

Alec's voice caught her attention. "Yep, track, hunt, and trained in search and rescue, actually. Although Totus does most of the searching, and Im better at the rescuing." She answered easily enough, even giving her thumbs a humorousThey seemed to have it covered, but Duik called for marshmallows.

"I'll check the pantry for marshmallows, or anything to spice up the mix!" She offered, and disappeared into the little room. She started pushing aside the freeze-dried foods and cans, searching diligently for marshmallows. She found a small packet of cinnamon, and a box of candy canes from who knows how long ago. Hey, they had to do what they could with what they had. But marshmallows..

Beth caught sight of a promising looking bag on the top shelf. She shifted the other things into her left hand and reached up with her right arm. Her fingers brushed the bag, pushing it back a few inches. She whined a little, scrunching up her nose. If only she had a few more inches..

"Oh..." Wednesday said, in response to Bael. Then she smiled a bit at Alec's suggestion, and told him:

"I'll have to try that, after everyone else Is finished making their watery hot chocolate."

Meanwhile, Cerci noticed that Beth seemed to be having trouble reaching something, so the bear decided she could maybe help too.

Moving towards Beth she nudged the girl, and asked, "Need a boost?"

Laohu chuckled, hearing the words "secret". He definitely knew a thing or two about secrets, especially since it seemed everyone was carrying at least one or two. Laohu nodded,
"Thank you for keeping me company too, Haku. It has been a while since I was in a presence of another animal." He said sincerely as he watched Haku leave with Rin. Instead of leaving right away, he watched from the window, looking out at his companion. He heard her giggle and laughter, loving the sound of it. It had been a while since he heard it and he couldn't have been more than pleased with the group they had been joined into.

@andujarprime (ending of conversation)

Just right when Xiao Hui said those words of being caught off guard, she was met with a hit to the back, with a teasing Rin. Turning her around, she gasped, shaking her head, as her face flushed lightly, in a slight pout,
"Now that was definitely. . off guard." She said, not expecting him to be behind her. However, another hit was thrown at her from Alec, Duirk's human companion. Soon enough, she had engaged herself in the slight snowball fight, including Agent Strong since she had managed to get a hit on her as well. Her heart leaped for joy as her facial expression showed care-freeness and freedom. It had been so long since she's had this much fun! She was definitely throughly enjoying herself as she and the rest of her teammate's were getting each other back with the snow all around them. Xiao Hui had lost count of where everyone was and was out of breathe at the time, as she tried to get away from the others, aiming at whoever and anyone that was in her path. However a loud noise could be heard over the sound of her teammate's echoes as two large rams made their way to them. Blinking she couldn't help but be curious of them, hearing their light banter between each other. Smiling, Xiao Hui automatically liked them already, as she felt Laohu's presence next to her. "That doesn't suit you, Laohu, but I'm surprised you even put that on." She spoke teasingly to her companion. Laohu resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he nudged her. "It is for protection and I'm sure , Milady, you don't want anything happening to me." Xiao Hui froze slightly when he said "Milday" and couldn't help but land a playful shove towards Laohu. "You know how I dislike that title." Pouting as she spoke but continued having an open ear to what was going on in front of her.

Laohu loved the feel of the cold weather on his pelt as he found himself interested in the two Rams before him
. "Those two fellows are amusing, we need more like themc Hui." Xiao Hui nodded at Laohu's musing as she felt herself shiver in her bones. It was definitely a good time to head inside as she heard someone mention hot chocolate. Walking into the cabin, she realized she was the last person to get inside as she felt Loahu shake off any snow on him as Xiao Hui pushed down the rest of the snow off of herself. Looking around, she spotted a fire as she made her way towards it, with Laohu on her heels. As she sat down, she sighed in awe, loving the warmth of the fire and soon enough Laohu wrapped is frame around Xiao Hui, making her disappear slightly due to his large frame. However, Xiao Hui's attention was to the two Rams, smiling at them. "You two are entertaining, you know that?" She giggled slightly and looked around at where everyone was. Some were in the kitchen and some were engaged in conversation. She could get used to this, however, knowing she wasn't here on vacation, she wondered when they would be debriefed.

Zoe felt a small amount of relief when Rin took her hand, accepting her makeshift apology. She wanted - this once - to swallow her pride and to actually cooperate with the ones she had to team up with. From afar Eos nodded with approval, he was glad that Zoe finally was able to make her move to meet kindred spirits.

The girl let out a small smile for a moment but then Rin sat down next to her. Immediately she felt her cheeks turning red and she looked at him with dismay. The boy sat down next to her without any issues, nobody had dared to make such a move in a very long time. She started to feel a bit anxious and gulped, feeling heat overwhelming her for but a moment but then she quickly composed herself. It was normal, she had to act normal.

" It is quite a rare sight to see a master of swords nowadays. " she managed to speak " Everyone favors guns in these modern times yet some people still want to don the mantle of a samurai. "

She looked at him, eyeing Haku as well.

" Tell me: how will you vanquish our foes? Will you always fight in the heat of battle with your weapon? Will fear not consume you amidst the great danger? "

She turned away, her voice turning into a bitter one.

" Many do no know fear - but they should. To live without fear is not to live at all. "

*edit

The two rams looked at each other, considering Xiao's compliment.

"Well gee eh, I'm sure glad we can make ya smile."

"Yah, its a real talent we seem to have, whether we like it or not!"

This made them both break out into another hearty laugh.

Once the water was boiling nicely Alec made use of the mugs he had fetched, adding the chocolate powder and a dash of cream to each cup. It wasn't long before there were a full set of steaming hot drinks. He loaded them onto a tray and brought them out onto the table in the center of the room and began handing them out. Duik politely refused his until the marshmallows could be produced. The last two mugs he took for himself and for Xiao, taking a seat by the fire he offered here the mug.

"Sounds like we have quite the trek ahead of us. Better warm up." He paused in thought for a moment, staring into the crackling flames that locked the stone at the back of the fireplace.

"If its not too personal, can I ask where you're from? Not the country I mean, what sort of family do you come from?"

He had watched her for a while, she had the bearing of a woman with a wealthy upbringing, the grace of someone taught formal etiquette but the authority to get what she wanted. This added to her gentle nature made him curious. Most people he had met from that circle (his own circle) were deaf to the needs of other people, yet Xiao seemed to be looking out for them. It gave him a bit of hope for himself.

Bael made his tea and added the chocolate, going back to the group. He nodded to Wednesday as he passed, but didn't make much of an effort to speak to her again. She'd probably just make a poke about his accent again. He huffed, sitting down and looking around at the group.

Aww. The snake kid sat with Zoe, he heard Cedar's voice in his head.

Bael threw the bear a look. Good for them, he insisted pointedly. Seriously. I spoke to her once. Sort of. He did regret not doing a better job of talking to her, he had to admit.

Cedar shrugged and went over to Bael, sitting at his feet. "Soooo," the bear began. "When do you think we'll have someone talk to us about what exactly the plan is?"

Bael shrugged, looking around the group again. "I think we're all pretty happy relaxing with hot chocolate," he pointed out. "I really doubt we'll get to do this again any time soon. So let's not rush, yeah?"

Laohu's ears perked up hearing the ram's laughters as Xiao Hui let out a soft smile, watching the two of them interact with each other. "Are you two peas in a pod? Brothers, perhaps?" She asked, quite curious, seeing how in sync they are. Xiao Hui had yet to meet their human companions, so she was quite curious to what kind of person they would be. However, her attention was brought away when she saw a mug in front of her. She gently took the mug in her hands, as she felt the cold defrosting from the hotness of the mug. "Thank you." She said softly, before looking over at Alec as he sat down by the fire as well. Laohu lifted up his head, looking at the male before him seeing if he could figure the male out. But, instead he decided to sit back and enjoy himself before things started happening. Laohu closed his eyes, resting, though still kept alert as he wrapped his tail around Xiao Hui's frame.

Nodding, Xiao Hui took a sip of the hot chocolate, letting the hotness simmer down to her throat, warming her up on the inside. "What made you want to agree to join? I saw how reluctant you were, but it seems Duirk was able to convince you." She said, remembering observing their interactions the first time she met them. However, it seemed that they both had questions for each other, as she blinked at his question. Even Laohu's head propped back up a tad bit before heading back down.
"He's observant as you are, Hui. Good luck with that." He teased before minding his own business again. "Laohu. . " she scolded mentally, "you would be the one to leave me hanging." Xiao Hui took a while to think on what and how she would respond to the male. It was obvious to her she couldn't tell him the truth yet she couldn't lie either. It wasn't in her blood to do so, especially, someone as Alec. From the moment she met him . . he always seemed to glance to her from time to time, not that she was noticing or looking back. . per say. . But, even he, himself, looked to be someone who could potentially be a leader. . or strong enough to carry others. Xiao Hui spok softly, letting her accent shin through, "My father is an businessman who takes in entrepreneurs, sell their products, and helps them run their own business. Sort of like what Americans call . . the people on. . what was it. . ? Shark Tank." She said, not necessarily telling the truth yet not necessarily lying, as she spoke generally. "He's quite busy most of the time, he's never seen home, but he's one of the few respected and honored leaders back at home. What about yourself? Besides from being a veterinarian, there's more to you, isn't there?" Xiao Hui asked, observing Alec's expressions as she looked into his eyes, searching for any hint of hesitation or disappointment.

Beth's arm snapped down, and she spun around with a small shout at the sound of a deep feminine voice behind her. Her horror was confirmed when she turned to find herself face-to-face with one of the two bears. Her green eyes glazed over with fear as they met the dark ones of Cerci.

Come on Liz, he wont hurt you anymore than I will

He's just being friendly- he likes you as much as I do

Liz, relax, don't you trust me?

Beth stumbled backward a few steps, shaking her head rapidly. But it wasn't in response to the question. Turning to find a bear, with the same face shape and eyes, had shocked her back into the past.

Totus had been listening silently to Zoe and Rin, when the sound of Beth's fear reached his ears. Instantly, he was in the air, flying too fast past everyone and into the pantry. His talons brushed past the bear's ears, and he landed on the shelf closest to it. The owl spread his wings, bowing his body and making himself appear twice as big. "I will retrieve the bag for her." He hissed icily. In all honesty, he looked about ready to rip the bear in half if he could.

With Totus near, Beth began to calm down, but she still stood at the back of the pantry, eyes fixed on the bear with no small amount of fear. Had they met normally, with introductions, her reaction wouldnt have been so bad, but the bear had startled her badly, triggering too much,

@Hel (and everyone else)

Simon made his way back over towards the fire where Jimbo had resumed his earlier activity of ignoring most everyone else and listening to his iPod. Simon shook his head and reached for a cup of the steaming liquid and looked around the group. Most everyone had found a conversation to delve onto, while some simply sat and continued to warm themselves. Simon found one particular pair and began making his way over towards the pair.

He smiled as he approached Bael and Cedar, finding himself a spot on the floor he set his bag down and then set the mug in his hands as he watched the fire.

"We'll I must say, this is one of the more pleasant moments I have spent on The Watch. Enjoy this you two, once we get started tracking down our informant, I'm sure it will be nothing but chaos."[/color

Simon raised his mug towards the pair and then took a slow sip of the warm liquid. It was just the warm pick me up to shake off the chill from outside.

@Sleipnir

"Oh... I... My apologies, I didn't mean to scare you," Cerci said, taking a few steps back. "I'll... Uh. I'll go sit back by the fire now." The bear was clearly surprised by such a harsh reaction, and sank back towards the group, moving to sit back, letting others enjoy the fire.

Wednesday saw Beth and Totus with cerci and was about to go snap at them for hurting her best friend when cerci decided to remove herself from the situation.

Alec took the information in, his expression remaining thoughtful.

"You jumped straight to your father," He observed. "He's not around too often but get the feeling he's a fairly big presence in your life?" It was an interesting point, and one he could relate to. He smiled at the idea that they might have something in common. The look he gave her held no judgement, only a new appreciation.

Then came the penalty; now he it was his turn to answer, and dodge around the exact truth. It was all he could do to prevent himself from wrinkling his nose at the prospect of lying to her.

"Ha, not much gets past you." She was sharp, which he admired, but it also made him nervous. He was convinced that the closer she got to the truth the more danger she (or anyone on the team for that matter) would be in.

He took a breath: "I'm pretty talented on horseback, can shoot almost anything with a trigger and not a bad hand at basket ball." His casually wry tone betrayed the fact that he knew this wasn't what she had asked about. He chose his next words carefully:

"I er, didn't much care for my father's business practices. I left about 2 years ago. Haven't spoken to him since." He met her eyes and the look he gave her asked that she not probe further. Then the expression was gone and replaced with a lighthearted grin.

"The Canucks are a weak team Bill, My money's on the Bruins this season."

The rams stopped speaking and gaped at him. "Oh! You did not!"

"You just insulted our team...on Canadian soil eh! Dat's just rude." The rams had their head tilted slightly upward, a sign they were joking as was the jovial looks upon their velvety faces.

Alec offered Xiao a similar look, teasing the rams was fun, they were good sports about it.

@crucialstar

Rin pondered her words for a moment. By this time the hot chocolate was done, he smiled and nodded towards the center of the room. "One moment please" He said as he stood up and scooped up two mugs of hot chocolate. He brought them back to the table. "A further peace offering. And a possible token of friendship." He said with a smile as he set a mug down in front of her before sitting once more. He looked into his dark mug for a few more seconds before responding. "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself., Famous American saying. Yet, to me, as it seems to you. It means little to nothing. I agree, living without fear is not living at all. Fear helps to keep the senses sharp, helps to define the line between life and death." He said slowly looking back up at her. He could see it in her, she knew fear. She had faced fears, and tragedies, and lived to tell the tales. To learn from her past, a dark past. It was easy to see why she had the demeanor she had, and looking at her now, he could not entirely fault her for her feelings. "How will I face our enemy? There is no set way to face your enemy. It all depends on the enemy you are facing." He said before he took a sip of his drink. "Sometimes attacking head on, swift and precise is the best way to go. To rely on strength and will power alone. Other times, it is best to fight with wit, and cunning. It all depends on who, or what we face I suppose." He took another sip of his drink, slowly Haku made her way onto the table off of his shoulders. She sat nearby coiled up as tight as she can in a heated sleeve. He turned his attention to her bow, and smiled. "As archaic as my sword may be, I don't see many uses for a bow outside of hunting for sport. And even then, it is usually on dear. However your's seems battle ready. And quite unique at that. Very impressive handiwork, especially the metal it is shaped from." He said genuinely impressed.

@DawnAntalios

Bael nodded to Simon as the burly man spoke. He couldn't help but be a bit put off by the man; he was probably greater than Bael in every way, both physically and in the field. "I imagine so," he replied, taking a bit of his hot drink. "I'm not sure if I'm really what they need here. I mean — I'm a kid, and I'm not like you all. I never did well with chaos. Never fought in my life. Cedar never swatted anything bigger than a Martin and nothing more dangerous than a tree. How are we supposed to deal with — with rogue wolves? Wild Grizzlies, and mountain cats and even just the mountains — freezing every night, ice on the cliffs, avalanches — blizzards..." He ended miserably, his doubts getting the better of him. Zoe's comment that he had promise seemed all but forgotten now. "...What if I have to hurt someone? I can't — I couldn't kill someone." Then he looked at Simon again, apprehension and then embarassment seeping into his features. "Oh, gosh. I'm sorry; I shouldn't... It's not right for me to just go off like that." He looked away again, somewhere between anxious and very embarassed. "I just... I don't know. Sorry."

@zCrookedz

Cedar looked up, spotting Wednesday. She was the one with the other bear. He bounded over to her, flopping down nearby with something like the well-known "bunny-flop." ((Okay, maybe well-known to rabbit people.)) He studied Wednesday a moment before asking, "You're with Cerci, right? Have you met Bael?"

Don't you dare Cedar.

I thought you were busy dumping emotional baggage on the body-builder.

Yeah, but I know what you're up to.

So you don't deny that that's what you were doing!

And neither did you!

@Hel

Zoe watched as Rin walked towards the mugs of hot chocolate to retrieve one for himself. She was, however, very surprised when he returned with two. At first she thought it was for Haku, his companion but it seemed he intended it as a gift... a token of friendship. She stared at the seemingly delicious drink, scarcely believing what she saw.

" Thanks... " she whispered as she reached out for the drink and took a sip. The delicious, sweet beverage was indeed as heavenly as she thought it to be and now as the warm feeling coursed through her veins she felt a bit less tense than usual. " 'Tis rare for me to be grateful for something, but this time I think I have to give in to such emotions. I have used to live in solitude for so long that the memories of sharing have all but faded into oblivion... when you need to be selfish to survive it is hard to be kind at the same time. "

She shook her head, taking an another sip and placing the mug back to its place.

" My apologies. My hardships are hardly interesting and should bother none but me. We all have our demons... some just have more than others. "

She listened as he explained his ideas about fear itself and she sighed. Too many times did pride conquer others... even herself. She could not allow that to happen again. He then mentioned her bow and she let out a brief smile.

" Gol'Talas is my prized weapon, my masterwork created after years of training. " she spoke silently, concealing every emotion which would lead others to believe that she was boasting " He might seem to be old but trust me: the infused arrows I use always find their marks... and there is no metal that can withstand their might. "

She suddenly stopped. Was she seriously talking about her weapon?

" That is more than enough boasting for one day I think. Even I feel sickened after those words - I am sorry that you had to hear all of it. " she concluded as she looked at Haku " A warrior's bond with his animal is said to be exceptionally strong: they share strength not only physical but mental as well. The strength of that bond determines the strength of the warrior himself. " she looked at him again " Tell me: what did you feel when the bond between you and Haku formed on that fateful day? "

@andujarprime

Alec definitely surprised her, especially when he caught on to the fact that although her father could be gone for so long, he still remained as a huge presence in her life. Taking another sip of her hot chocolate, Xiao Hui looked inside the mug at the content, "He does play a big role in my life, especially since. . .well, I'm sure you would take a good guess as to why, since I'm . . . the only. . child. . ." She said hesitating slightly but truthfully, though it pained her to say those words, "only child", though she tried her best to mask the pain. "I believe in your capabilities." She finished as she looked back towards him, seeing the thoughtfulness in his features. He was different, different than the people she had to deal with before. . . there wasn't judgment or.. . disgust. Xiao Hui took notice of his posture, seeing that they were talking as if they were on the same wave length, the same level, and she couldn't have been more than impressed. Normally, the males she met would attempt to talk down to her, without trying to make it so "obvious", but with Alec, he was honest, and definitely saw her as his equal. As she went on, she felt like. . . he could understand her in a sense. . how much she believes he would, she didn't know but she continued, "Like this mug, it is warm now, however, eventually it will only turn colder as time passes, and soon enough, you're left to fend for yourself from the cold." As she finished speaking, her ears opened up even more, as she watched Alec's facial expression as he talked of his own life. She knew there was more to him than he had let on, yet at the same time she wouldn't know what. . . especially since she'd rather not assume. However, hearing Alec's short and concise answer was everything she ever needed to know, especially the way he spoke of his father. Not only could she tell by the way his tone changed and his uncomfortable-ness, but his eyes showed everything. The eyes were windows to the soul, was it not? Xiao Hui recognized the look he had given to her, asking to not probe any further. As quick as the look came, as quick as the lightheartedness in the air came back between the two of them. She admired the way he was able to change the mood just in an instant, another surprise from Alec. He was just full of surprises, wasn't he? But, at the same time, she wondered. . . was his father looking for him? Had he gotten out of his grasp? Especially since he hadn't spoken to him in 2 years. . . Xiao Hui was curious, but decided to not ask any further as Alec had ended up teasing the two rams.

Shaking her head, Xiao Hui rolled her eyes playfully, letting out a small laugh.
"Bruins and the Canucks? Sadly. . . I never watched hockey or played before. But. . . I'll go for the Canucks. . they roll off the tongue." She admitted, as she took another sip of her hot chocolate. However, as Alec mentioned what he was good at, to say she was shock was an understatement. He knew all of that? Xiao Hui stared at him in surprise , "Horseback riding?" She said in awe, always wanting to ride a horse one day, though she never had done so before, "I'm quite envious. . especially since the only animal I did ride on was . . Laohu. . but I don't think he counts." She teased as Laohu gave Xiao Hui a look, rolling his eyes, nudging her. "Of course, not. I'm much more majestic than a horse, Hui. Plus, you can be a bit heavy sometimes." He teased before Xiao Hui's faced reddened brightly, "I am not! You literally almost tower over me. . ." She pouted slightly before remembering Alec was near her and sent him a sheepish smile. "Maybe. . . if it calls for it. . I'd be able to horseback ride? Learn how to pull a trigger? And play basketball while we're here ? And maybe. . ." She asked feeling slightly nervous, though she didn't let it show, "You'll teach me?" Xiao Hui asked mentally scolding herself for acting in such a way before changing the subject quickly, giving Alec a thumbs up. "You're definitely skilled, Mister Alec." Laohu looked between the two , quite amused.

@SilverFlight

When everyone had begun getting set up and preparing the hot chocolate, Manjano had remained in his corner, despite Beth's nice invitation to get closer to the fire. If he got closer to the fire, then he'd be closer to the others and someone would surely want to interact with him, which wasn't going to happen if he could help it.

Content when Calista's attention was pulled away from himself, Falarion relaxed and then promptly sat down beside Manjano, seemingly calm for once. Though, it wasn't Falarion who was calm. With the deep emotional bond that the pair shared, whenever Manjano felt something strong enough, Falarion would share the feeling. Considering how unusually calm Manjano was currently, Falarion now shared the feeling.

When Beth joined the few others in the kitchen area, Manjano almost felt a slight urge to trail after her, but he knew he'd probably only make things awkward in there considering he wouldn't want to speak with anyone. He also was pretty sure that going in the kitchen with the sole purpose of just wanting to see Beth again would spike the awkwardness up a ton.

Smiling shyly up at Manjano, Falarion then thought to him, 'Y'know, you could always just...speak to her. It's not awkward if you use your words.'

Frowning at Falarion's thoughts, Manjano shook his head before thinking back, 'Nice try. It's not happening. It's probably a mistake to let anyone near me again anyways.'

Falarion's smile quickly faded and he let out a weary sigh before thinking solemnly, 'Yeah...okay.'

Yet, when Totus suddenly flew into the kitchen, a look of alarm on his face, Manjano instantly snapped out of his moodiness, as he walked into the kitchen to see what was going on.

Falarion padded after Manjano, curious to know what had just unfolded.

After entering the kitchen, Manjano's frown remained, as he only saw the two bears and some of the others standing around. Where was Beth?

'In the pantry! I caught her scent and Totus' scent, as well.'

Nodding at this, Manjano forced himself to relax before he cautiously opened the pantry door to see Totus puffed up double his usual size and Beth looking outright terrified, though he had no idea the bear had just been in there and frightened her.

Furrowing his brows in clear concern, though it was certainly an unusual face for him to make, Manjano slowly walked into Beth's point of view and then Falarion spoke up for him, joining Manjano's side and asking softly, "Beth...are you okay? What happened?"

Leandra had been unusually quiet throughout the interactions unfolding around her, as Luness had already nodded off in her lap. Getting extremely cold and then warming up always had that effect on the pair.

Letting out a low yawn, Leandra was pleasantly surprised when Alec soon returned from the kitchen with hot cocoa for everyone.

Grinning, Leandra took a mug for herself and quietly sipped at it while the conversations unfolded around her.

Not wanting to barge in on any of the conversations, Leandra resolved to people watch for the time being and found herself smiling, as she saw the different personalities beginning to show, as everyone relaxed and chatted here and there.

Deciding to check out the people in the room, Leandra grinned, as she found that she really liked Xiao's looks and Alec's looks, though she couldn't bring herself to interrupt their conversation to get to know either of them. At least she already knew some about Alec and she definitely knew he had a love for working with animals and especially being involved in the bonding process.

Eavesdropping for a moment, Leandra smiled wistfully when Alec mentioned he loved to go horseback riding. Leandra had never really had such a luxury before, but she could only imagine how much fun it was.

Yet, as the conversation between the pair continued to unfold, Leandra felt a sudden pang of jealousy, even though it wasn't like she was that close to either of them to be able to feel that way.

Sighing, Leandra decided to, hopefully not come across as rude, but butt into their conversation.

Glancing at Xiao, Leandra decided to greet her first since she hardly knew the woman.

"Hi, Xiao is it? I'm Leandra. Sorry if I'm butting in or something. I just felt like your conversation was probably the only one in this room that would really interest me."

Rin smiled "Don't feel sickened. A little pride can go a long way. It is when you let your pride go to your head that it becomes a problem." He said to her. He then turned his head to Haku when she asked her question. He smiled once more, "Honor. I met Haku on the day I finally became a full fledged Samurai. Honor is something we, as samurai feel the most important to us. Honor, was quickly replaced by joy. Joy at having found one another." He looked back to her. "And you? When you bonded with Eos?" He asked curiously. This was the most conversation he himself had in a while. He wasn't sure when the next time there would be peace, the watch's missions didn't always go so smooth and nice.

Beth gulped at the air for a few moments after the bear left, leaning lightly against the shelves. She closed her eyes, blanking her mind as best she could. As Falarion and Manjano peaked in, Totus let himself return to normal and hopped cautiously along the shelves to Beth. When he neared her, he gently pushed his heart-shaped face against her cheek. The motion was much like a cat looking to be petted. Beth bowed her head into the motion.

The sound of Falarion's voice caused her to jump and open her eyes. While she didn't exactly relax at the sight of the pair, she didn't seem to object to it either. Manjano seemed predicable and too cautious to get near her, so she could ignore her instincts. Her hair had fallen into her face, and she used both hands to smooth it away, shaking it out into its usual waves.

After a shaky breath, she spoke. "Um, yes. I-" Her eyes closed for a moment, and Totus closed his and pushed his head against hers again. "Totus, will you take the marshmallows and stuff out and uh- just explain. To the bear, I dont- you know, no hard feelings." Her thoughts came out broken and scattered, but Totus understood. He straightened a few locks of hair with his beak, a preening gesture odd to humans but very familiar and comforting to his girl. Then, he did as was asked.

As Totus left, Beth turned away and rested her forehead against one of the shelves, taking deep breaths. Her voice came out in a whisper. "Its fine, Falarion." She couldnt bring herself to say more. Thank goodness she was hidden from the rest of the group at that moment.

As requested, the owl gathered the cinnamon and candy cane box in his talons and lifted the marshmallows with his beak. It was a little heavy, but he managed to fly out to the fire and put the load down with the other hot chocolate supplies. The marshmallows he dropped directly in front of Duik. He might of made a joke about the hyena's insistence on them, but his mood had fallen. So he sought the bear, landing lightly on the floor next to the hulking creature. "Excuse me, Cerci, yes? May I have a word?I would like to explain, if I may."

Watching Totus comfort Beth, Manjano quickly understood that whatever had happened previously had really upset Beth.

Problem was, beyond hearing the mention of a bear, Beth didn't further explain whatever had caused her so much distress.

Seeing Totus fix some of Beth's hair, Manjano raised an eyebrow curiously, though Falarion nudged his leg with his muzzle before thinking to him, 'Hey, don't make that face. You might upset her further.'

Feeling a tad exasperated at that, Manjano glanced down at Falarion and raised his eyebrow again before thinking, 'I communicate with my expressions so I'm pretty sure she may feel better if I make a face rather than continue to just awkwardly stare at her.'

When Totus exited the pantry with the marshmallow bag, Manjano glanced back at Beth in time to see her turning away and resting her head against a shelf.

Feeling his anxiety suddenly spike, Manjano worriedly thought, 'Did I upset her somehow? Did I do something wrong?'

Amused, Falarion shook his head before responding, 'No, I just think she's still shaken up by whatever happened to her.'

Scratching at the back of his head and shrugging helplessly at Falarion, Manjano then quickly thought, 'I'm pretty sure this is when people assume someone is going to comfort them, but I haven't the faintest idea how to do so.'

Falarion was about to respond when Beth spoke up, replying to what Falarion had asked her earlier. Blinking at her, Falarion then spoke up for Manjano and himself, saying, "Beth, uh, we can see that it's clearly not 'fine'. Do you want to share what happened here moments ago?"

Now rubbing the back of his head in a rather anxious manner, Manjano quickly thought to himself, 'There's no way I'm going to comfort her by touching her, especially not with any hugging or whatever is assumed of people to do when comforting someone else. So how do I comfort someone if I can't touch or speak to them?'

Zoe nodded.

" Respectable. " she concluded " Those are truly virtues worth pursuing in life. If you live you life chasing dreams formed by those then you may yet succeed. "

When he asked about her past however her warmer tone vanished as she stared blankly at her cup in front of her. She then looked up at Eos who seemed to enjoy the warmth and the commotion all around the place - and her heart shrank. She recalled everything, too many things in the past and she could not banish those nefarious thoughts. She drank the remaining chocolate and whispered.

" I have met him when I was but an infant. We grew together and it was inevitable that we would become partners. I guess one would attribute our bond to 'fate' - but if that is true then it surely has a gruesome sense of humor. "

She fell silent once more. Somehow reliving the memories she had with Eos made her feel... weak, exposed. She did not want to show this weakness, especially not before Rin so in the end she forced herself to stand up, dusted off her clothes and saluted to him.

" I do believe that this discussion was fruitful. " she said " Learning one's allies is a very important task - one that I have almost forgotten. Nevertheless it was fortunate that we could see past our differences to join in such a speech. You have my gratitude. Now, is there anything else you wish to know, or may I take my leave? "

She knew she sounded formal... to formal perhaps. But professionalism and being neutral kept her on this path and she did not want to unveil her feelings. Not again...
