Depends, really. Inner City/Sanctum don't particularly believe in the bible (Favoring realism, science, technology) but have churches to allow the poorer cities to pray to whenever they so deem fit. Jigram City, Halbert and King's Gate City are religious to an extent, But are swayed to believe that any tragedy that befalls someone unusually (Such as the Fire Demon mission, sucking out the heat from people's body it is simply taken as extreme hypothermia) has a realistic spin to it, so that the people of Bordova don't freak out being aware that they exist and come and go from the realms. The 5 families are aware of the presence of monsters, and thus have made a pact with Cerberus Vale's Hunters to exterimate any monster that causes trouble. Let's say that Irvi would definitely know what one is, but the fact that its true that they exist is astonishing to her because initially, the people aren't made aware of the truth.

In other words, I did not know that there is an ice cream man that drives around in my neighborhood on Friday's after school is done for my siblings, I knew they existed, but have not seen one until recently. And I bought myself an ice cream bar.
