Realistic or Modern Cads and Credibility Characters and OOC

Name: Mary Delacroix

Nickname: Little Lamb

Age: 27

Relationship Status: Single

Title/Rank: The daughter of a clergyman that led a meagre lifestyle, not because of a lack of wealth or sponsorship, but to feed the illusion of humility.

Fortune and History: Everything's going up Mary Style. The savings his mother and father had set aside was enough to allow her to travel to mainland Europe and a bit further into Asian countries once they both passed. Having been an only child to support the cause of humility, the estate and the fortune transferred to her. However, she did not stay idle, and left the estate mostly unattended as she went where her heart will. This was encouraged by the generous patron of her late father, and a distant widowed cousin that wished an escape from the tragedies of his own make and experience, lending an aide and a hand for Mary to take with her should she truly wish to pursue a temporary nomadic lifestyle. The Delacroix Estate, small yet comfortable in its own way, was soon empty of its inhabitants, with Mary getting closer and closer to the lands of the rising sun. After nearly 8 years of travelling, she has brought home with her an abundant number of skills that may be viewed as exotic to the people of her hometown.

Appearance: Though in possession of a curvaceous figure that was usually hidden by the strict fashion of the regency era, the obvious face that was most prominent of a lady's body was rather much too round, lacking the definition of cheebones or a strong jaw, making her look like a dumpling.

Personality: Truly a curiosity. Her pious parents and family was not a fitting nest for her progressive ideas, leading to the stick that marked her every statement of "heresy", "bigotry", "greed", and others that related to the devil at work. Her fascination of the world and her willingness to question it did not falter with every whip, however, and instead fueled her to face the world in its reality and present to it such outlandish probabilities. The passion she possesses, she would like to view as infectious. Her presence at balls and tea parties was always received with either enthusiasm or disgust, almost never in between. This would feed the amount of mischievousness she would provide her fellow guests for the evening.

Profession: Tends to the dilapidated estate while in search of application for her short-lived passions.

Xevia Xevia I'm in two minds about your character, it might be a little too "out-there," in that I think she's pushing the boundaries of what an unconventional lady could get away with.

Then again, maybe the travelling and interest in weapons would be a bit more believable if she had been travelling with a male relative? (the wives of soldiers often travelled a lot and did some pretty exciting things, perhaps she married a soldier when she was very young, lived a bit of a wild life and is now widowed?)

Or maybe you could tone her down some other way? What are your thoughts?

The gender-balance is evening up now too! We have a lot of brunettes and a lot of basically sweet women... What we need now is a calculating or worldly blonde (if none turn up I might create on myself ;) )
Im trying my best to play her as a judging, sensible type DX I hope thats coming through.

Maxilgal Maxilgal she seems sweet, inexperienced but basically sensible. It's funny how tricky it is to get them to come off right! I'm hoping I can illuminate a bit more of the Miss Gossages' characters as the night progresses ;)

AHHHH. SO MANY HANDSOME MEN. STOP IT

Lol. If I'm not mistaken a number of the people in general are darker haired; mine is blonde (per the portrait). He might make the acquaintance of a blonde!

She always thinks that people are who they say they are. She has a softheart and she is susceptible to people in need.

Name: Rosalyn Valais
Age: 19
Relationship status: Single
Title/rank: Duchess
Fortune: Poor (kind of); Although her status is very high her fortune isn't that heard off and the only family member who has a fortune is her elder brother who is currently in another country and her father.
Appearance: Rosalyn doesn't fancy her looks and doesn't have much confidence in them. She has the spitting image of her mother with her oval slender shaped face. An unusual nose slender and feminine than most Rosalyn has an uncommon face with from her almond-shaped eyes to her small face. Standing at 5'5 Rosalyn is slender and her weight could be questioned whether it's safe for her to be that skinny although she eats constantly fancying sweets. Every since Rosalyn had been a bab she loved wearing jewelry even those that didn't cost much she really did care whether the jewels she wore were real or not and didn't mind how they looked. She has long straight hair that reaches mid-waist which she likes to leave open finding it a bother to dress it ever single day.
Character:
Rosalyn isn't a proper lady and tries to act like one rather than being one herself. Growing up

Rosalyn was quiet a trouble some girl and caused trouble wherever she went. Yet even with that, her father thought she was better than her siblings mostly because she knew what she wanted unlike, her brother. She is strong and stubborn and knew how to act even without money she was also very cunning and excelled in her studies which pleased her father. Her siblings relied on their father who was known for his fortune yet he didn't spoil them and only gave them enough to feed them cloth them and give them a safe life nothing more and nothing less. Many thought that their father was merely cheap yet Rosalyn understood him and his reasons for doing what he does. Her father grew up in the streets and began saving up every dime he had until he opened a small place and that place divided into multiple others he was merely trying to teach his kids the value of money and what it's worth that every penny is worth something and you shouldn't waste it.
Profession: Studying + Book writer

Family connections: Rosalyn's Father Edgard Valais is a man who is quite known for the trillions of dollars behind him but don't let that think that you can marry one of his daughters and get everything he isn't an easy man and is quite smart despite not attending school ever. He also has a tight hand around his money and doesn't spend it on luxurious things and acts as if the family is middle class. Because of him the Valais family is known to be very proper and is always talked by in a good name. Edgard himself is overly generous and merciful even when it comes to his money.

Her mother is a stay at home mom, Gardenya worked selling sweets and Edgard would always buy something from there for lunch. He fell in love and married her overall their relationship has always been based on truth. And Edgard showered her with a happy life and wasn't picky with her request since she doesn't usually request things on behalf of her and mostly her children.

Her brother is the eldest of the bunch and has been spereate from the family since birth it's a miracle if he decided to eat with them. Ever since he was young he hasn't felt his fathers love and went into depression (His father wanted him to be strong) not knowing what he wants to do in the future. While his father tells him to join him in his work Rosalyn's brother Fernando refuses not wanting to be associated with his father so people won't look down on him and say he's their because of his father. At this point he is still distant from the family although he love them and cares for them especially his mom.

"It's not an easy thing admitting to yourself what you really are."
Name: Mary Ann Cotton
Age: 19
Relationship status: Single
Title/rank: None
Fortune: Poor plans to get rich and will use any means to do so
Appearance: Standing at 5'4 Mary tends to catch the attention of most with her big eyes and the color. Mary admires her beauty and knows she's better than all the other women. Flaunting her body and natural charisma Mary is shaped like an hourglass and she dosesn't mind wearing clothing that shows this fact off. Mary indulges in filthy urgents for a reason she dresses like a harlot for a reason.
"I'm tired...tired of being poor."
Character: Mary's beauty was equaled by her cleverness, which she had in abundance. A true protégée of her grandmother, she was a gifted manipulator who knew how to maneuver her way in court politics. She is clever and used not only her wits but her beauty and charm to get her way. Mary had to develop many different facades depending on who she is trying to manipulate. She will do anything to get her way. Mary is a protégée, and as such, her grandmother (the only family she has) has made certain that Mary is capable of protecting herself from those who might use or abuse her. Many describe Mary as sweet and tractable. Others consider Mary to be sweet and gentle, while most thing the worst and considers her to be restless, as mary often goes for a ride, a trip by boat, or out hawking.
Profession: Personal maid to Lady Marjorie Demarke

Hm, I suppose I didn't consider the possibility of a companion and a greater sponsor for her outlandish trips. Perhaps the occupation could be changed, taking her interests as merely interests. As she has left her estate in such a condition because of her absence, she could instead currently spend tending to it, trying to live down the excitement of her travels in the embrace of her hometown.

SandraDeelightful SandraDeelightful good question! Go right ahead and start, I'll add your name to the character list soon!

m u s e m u s e I'll have a proper look at your character soon, I'm a bit confused about the second one's profession (is she a servant?)

Sorry if I'm being fussy, it's nice to have a baseline of historical believability!

m u s e m u s e alright! I love the idea of having servant characters. The only issue is that as a servant she wouldn't be able to attend the ball as such, though she might help wait on guests. And there would be limited ways she could interact with the guests, so she might be a bit of an observer unless we add some more servant characters for her to interact with...

m u s e m u s e here's a compromise, what if she was a poor relative of Mrs Fletcher, who lives with her as a companion and helps her out? That way she's in that ambiguous place where she's not quite a servant, but occupies a low enough place that people might basically treat her like one. She could attend a ball, but still feel in an inferior position (and be scheming her way to occupy a higher place)
