Cabin in the Woods 1x1

Hayden jumped at the sound of the cry. He walked to the window to investigate. "What on Earth was that?" He asked himself. A sheer agony was clear in the cry...something wasn't right...chills ran down Hayden's spine, his hairs standing on the back of his neck. The echo of the sound...familiar.

His eyes looked all around in the dark of the night, nothing to be seen...nothing at a--Yikes! A face, a clear-as-day, face had been spotted somewhere in the distance...it vanished as Hayden glanced back in it's general location...it didn't appear human...or like any known animal...maybe it was only his imagination. "Did...you see that?" He asked Silas quietly.

Silas blinked, he'd been too focused on tying to make something out in the tree line that he hadn't been paying much attention "See what?" He asked, turning away from the window for a moment to look at Hayden, who look a little more than spooked. When he took a glance back outside, even the tree line was empty. He sighed softly, well, maybe there really was nothing out there. Though, he still couldn't find a logical reason, or no, source as to which that sound would or could have come from...An elk maybe? Or a moose? They made weird noises, it was possible. The boy brushed his bangs from his face so that he could see just that much better.

"I don't know...just seeing things, I guess." Hayden replied. He scanned from the window, seeing nothing but trees...and more trees...and more....He thought he was stupid for thinking something was out there. How childish of him. Silas probably assumed Hayden was a baby...a coward, scared by a few bumps in the night.

Silas cocked his head, taking one very last glance out the window. He tensed, swearing he saw a mass move along the treeline before disappearing behind the shed out back. The shed was still a good ways away from the cabin so he shouldn't have been alarmed but, in the distance, he could see the shed doors flapping in the wind when he knew they'd ben closed. He shouldn't be worried. It was just a wolf. Probably. He shook it off and headed for the couch.

Hayden had also headed for the couch. He could have sworn he saw something...but it was nothing. He sat on the arm of the couch, upright and alert...that couldn't be comfortable. He kept glancing out the window, hearing that sound from outside again...only louder, closer, even. He shrugged it off as nothing.

Silas looked over at Hayden who seemed sure that he'd heard something. Well, Silas swore he'd seen something so he couldn't tease him. Not that Silas would anyway, he wasn't very good at that, though he could if he tried. He shrugged off the blanket around his shoulders, it was getting a little too hot, or at least it was for him. He sat criss-cross on the couch , pressing his palms against the couch between his legs, silently listening to the area outside.

The outdoors had become...normal. A few regular sounds filled the silence, nothing out of the ordinary. Whatever was going on...had ceased. Hayden let out a sigh of relief silently. He twirled his neck around, popping it and making those weird yet satisfying sounds. He swung his legs slightly as they dangled off the side of the couch, his eyes looking out at the window, staring off into space. The fire's heat wasn't as good as he'd like it...he shivered randomly.

Silas watched the other shiver and shoved the blanket towards the other. He wasn't using it so the other could have it. Sure, he could've put a 'here you can have it' in there, curtsy and all you know, but he didn't think about it before he leaned back. Regret filled him, he shouldn't have slept through most of the evening, that mean he was getting no sleep tonight, and it was finally calming down sound wise and all. Great. Perfect. He envied the other, who he suspected had been awake the whole time, and was probably already tired.

Hayden hadn't quite noticed the blanket being shoved to him. Instead, something caught his eye...something outside the window. He stood, carefully walking over to it. Part of him wanted to smile, the other part wanted to scream. His eyes watched the window as the other side delivered a most...unexpected sight.

Not what he had seen before...but something pretty...pretty and scary...it was snowing outside...but harder....very, very hard. Almost like...oh no...it was a blizzard. They'd be trapped in this cabin perhaps longer than the time planned...the wind whistled, the cool night air seeping into the cabin through somewhere...the small space under the door, no doubt. A howl could be heard...the wind...just the wind...Hayden at least hoped so. "Oh great...it's a blizzard." He said.

"What?" Silas looked over the head of the couch and out the window, squinting to see what was going on. Oh. He blinked unintelligently, realizing how stupid he must've looked with that expression on his face. He narrowed his eyes and turned to the bigger window in the front of the cabin, he could see that the snow was sticking "We'll be trapped in here by morning." He said, no doubt by the way it was snowing, what with it pouring down so hard, the roads would be inaccessible. They'd be stuck in here, in this area, with no way out for certainly longer than a week. Seven people, only so much food. He suddenly wasn't thinking about what'd they'd seen and heard but their survival in general.

He glanced up the stairs, did his parents know? No, did their parents know? If they did, what would they say? Would they make a break for it, even though they haven't been here for even a day? They paid cheap for the cabin so what would it really matter right? He had too many questions running through his mind it was a cluster.

"Shit..." Hayden muttered under his breath. The storm was growing quick, as was the inner panic Hayden experienced. Stuck...in this cabin...the walls felt like they were closing in...his head felt weird...things started to look fuzzy...Hayden's balance was thrown off slightly. He stumbled for a moment, the thought of being stuck made him sick...

Not only was this creepy as hell, but it was bad...really bad. Limited food, 7 stomachs, freezing temperatures, small spaces, enclosed, cut off from civilization...Hayden's head really began to spin...as did his whole body. He tumbled onto the arm of the couch, nearly collapsing on the floor. His cheeks were flushed with embarrassment, red and puffy...the heat produced by his nerves overwhelmed him. His breaths became quick and short. He was not okay...

Silas shot up when he stumbled, and when Hayden fell against the arm of the couch he was at his side in seconds "H-Hey." he said, he wasn't sure what to do, how did he deal with that? He didn't know what it was, nor did he know what to do about it. He felt extremely bad for not being able to help, but, no, he should call for help. That was easy, and quick.

It was simple to call the adults's attention as they flooded downstairs. While Hayden's parents dealt with him Silas's mom was eyeing the window, muttering about something. His dad was debating their options. Silas, being the mother's boy he always was, stood next to his mother, trying to explain to her the thing he'd seen and heard, but she ruffled his hair and told him he was seeing things "Your eyes can play tricks on you in the dark." She assured him "Can my ears?" He asked "Just a wild animal." She said, turning back to the window, he huffed in frustration, no animal made that kind of noise. He looked back around the room. This had turned to Hell insanely quick.

Hayden's parents didn't even worry about the storm outside, they just help their son by breathing with him, guiding him through it. Hope held his hand, her hand was small...but damn, that 9 year old girl had a grip. Hayden's breathing was normal again...but he still felt whoozy. Trapped...stuck...lost. His family stayed with him, helping him onto the couch.

Hayden's father got up once he was alright and began discussing a plan of action with Silas' father. The two men talked with each other, making a plan for what they should do, and how soon to do it. Hayden would have vouched for Silas' pleas to his mother...but his words would sound like jumbled nonsense at this point. He felt pathetic...weak.

Silas stood as a calming mechanism for his mother, her only child seemed to be the only thing keeping her calm. She was a worry-wart, a trait he hadn't inherited. He took after his father, thinking for plans ahead, but right now he couldn't focus with the way his mother had her arms wrapped around his upper torso, hugging him tight to her. It made her feel better if she felt like she could keep him safe. Though, his mother wasn't very tall, she was a few inches taller than him so she could rest her chin on his head. She hummed unknown songs to herself silently. This had been a big part of Silas's childhood, keeping his mother calm whether it be from work, trying to get things done around the house, not having enough family time, or well...Worrying about their survival in a blizzard. He guessed knowing her 'baby' was safe always helped her feel calm, or as calm as she could.

Silas didn't have time to stay so unfocused, however, he needed to figure his own mess out. Listening, or rather eavesdropping on their fathers Silas could make out a suggestion to get out while they could. Another was to see if it would clear up. Even more was to check the roads while it was still possible. Silas only one of the options, and that was to leave. What would it matter, how much did they pay really? Seventy dollars each? Leaving the cabin at $140 dollars for a whole week. They could easily earn that back. His ears twitched when he heard that option get shot down. He turned his head sharply, causing his mother to lean to the side to get a better look at his face, a questioning expression across it, he ignored her. How could they not want to leave? They...They wanted to check the roads "That's..!" Silas got cut off by his mother quickly shushing him and turning him another way. That was stupid! Ridiculous! What the actual Hell? All things Silas wanted to say, but he didn't get the chance. Instead, his expression said it for him as he glared at the ground.

(PenBlade's back in action!)

Hayden's parents had helped their son and left him on the couch. They were totally for checking the roads. "Maybe if we check the roads, we'll find some help or a way out." They all sounded like the idiots in a horror movie who died first...but this was real life, and...well...no, impossible. The two fathers had discussed if for several moments, making a plan. They were going out there...in a blizzard, the mothers both considering joining them out there.

Hayden collected himself enough to speak his mind. Once he began to speak, his parents shushed him like a child. He scoffed mentally.

(Woo! :D )

Silas still wasn't happy, he wasn't sure if he wanted to go or not. No, no that was a terrible idea, he didn't want to go. He'd stay here where he at least knew he had a chance. Why couldn't they wait until morning? They could dig themselves out right? He was going through all those stupid questions again, he needed to stop that. He flinched, oh he did, when his mom volunteered to go, and his father didn't tell her no. To be honest, he wanted to object, but he couldn't with his words, and apparently his expressions weren't enough either. Great. Fantastic actually, sure, why not. Despite the fact he tried to tell himself it was ok his stomach was turning.

In light of all of this...Hayden's min focused on his sister. Where would she go? Go with the parents, or stay in the cabin? He wasn't clear on that particular matter...his head throbbed in a headache. All four parents were going...now what about H--"Mommy, Daddy..can I come with you? I don't like it in the cabin...and I wanna be with you." Hope said, big eyes in effect...cute. Mr. and Mrs. Valentine somehow agreed to let Hope go with them...a 9 year old girl...

Hayden's brow raised. "You're taking Hope? Are you insane? What it--" Hayden said, being shushed again. He shrugged and let out a frustrated sigh. Why were his parents taking his sister? She'd be scared to death out there...and if something happened....He didn't think about it. He forced himself not to think about it.

Silas, displeased with the situation as a whole, tried to pull away from his mother's grip, but he could feel her grip tighten and that panic set in. He sighed. He wouldn't leave first or her panic would set in. She had to let go on her own, as her own choice, and Silas didn't have it in him to make that choice for her.

He only tensed when she did let go, and that was to join the others when they all headed for the cars. She pat his head before she did leave, telling him they'd be back in no time, and he wanted to believe that. He really, really did, but if they got stuck that wouldn't be the case. It wasn't his choice, though, and he didn't have a say in this. Not now. That meant he would simply be stuck here until they came back. At least, he guessed, he wasn't alone though. Hayden was still here.

Hayden's parents began their preparations to leave with Hope. They slipped on their shoes, bundled up in their coats and threw on scarves and beanies. Hayden was in shock they were all leaving...who knows when they'd be back? What would happen...what would become of his family. He tried to beg at least one of them to stay, but his family for some reason had become to thick-headed to listen to reason. They were going, whether he liked it or not. All that was left was for them to wait for Silas' parents. Hayden wouldn't be alone...but at what cost.

Silas's parents wasted no time and soon, they were all heading out of the door, his mother waved at him and he felt his heart drop. He didn't know why, but he did. It wasn't like them, really, this wasn't like them so what...What had gotten so deep into their heads? He didn't trust it, but before he could blink the door had closed leaving him and Hayden in an almost silent room, almost, the sound of the fire crackling and that damned scratching. Silas didn't care about the scratching anymore. He didn't. He wanted his parents back, and to be reasonable, but the cars could be heard starting and then he could hear them drive away.

Hayden scrambled to the window, watching as they drove away. He wanted to scream...but he didn't. He gasped, seeing that face...that...creepy face was in the car window...just...floating? He titled his head, eyes wide and heart pounding.

(Legit all I could think of lol)

Silas glared into the distance, he hated it, what his parents were doing. Thinking. It was stupid. He could feel himself heat up, for some reason...He blinked, realizing that the reason he was heating up was because the fire was getting bigger. Once he'd realized it, it went back down. Odd, it was as if his emotions had been affecting...That was stupid. He shook it off, looking around before heading for the stairs.

(It's all good!)

Hayden looked away from the window. That face freaked him out. He noticed the fire getting bigger, so he placed a log on top of it, keeping the flames down a bit. He noticed Silas going to the stairs and looked away from his direction. He was stuck in a cabin with a boy he hardly knew....and stuck there for an unknown amount of time...in this creepy...old...freaky cabin. He shuddered.

Silas headed upstairs and found his mother's bag, he started shuffling through it and blinked when he realized he'd found what he was looking for. He came back downstairs and when he did he was carrying a small brooch in the shape of a crown. His mom had always thought Kane sounded like a 'royal' name, so she'd carried the brooch wherever she went right after her and his father had gotten married, Silas leaned against the opposite side of the couch, fiddling with it between his fingers. It made him feel a little better.

Hayden sat back on the couch, elbows rested on his knees. He ran a hand through his hair, stressed out and just not knowing what to do. It grew colder in the cabin, the storm getting stronger outside. He huddled into himself, glancing all around the cabin, noticing Silas with the brooch. He tilted his head, and decided to break the silence. "What's that?" He asked quietly.
