Hello! I'm Clementine, and I'm here to see if I can attempt hosting yet another roleplay. I'm sure it'll be fine.
Warnings
Just to be safe! I plan for this to be a darker roleplay, so it’ll be handling some themes like death, murder, bugs, cults, ghosts, various monsters, and possibly a dark god or two. I’m not very good at writing horror but it is a horror focused roleplay, so you have been warned!

Hollow Moon
The Crane Wives
overview.
The year is 1997.
You are an undergrad at Willow Way University which is located somewhere between midwest and northeastern USA (I haven’t decided yet), and having fallen into a dreary routine in the small college town decided to join a new and exciting group: the College Researchers, Enthusiasts, and Experts of the Paranormal and Supernatural, or the C.R.E.E.P.S. They are a small club of eccentric weirdos who archive past and present supposed supernatural events, investigate cryptid sightings, occasionally try to get some photos of a UFO, and do totally legal trespassing-free ghost hunts (please do not snitch on the University to them).
The club was originally founded in the 70s, but had faded out until Cypress Barlowe revived it a few years ago. They have a room in the basement of the library reserved for their meetings. It’s been difficult to find members that can handle the club’s weirdness and are willing to stay, but the few that have are close friends.
Inciting Incident
Cypress Barlowe was the one who revived the club back in 1994, when he was a freshman with the help of one of his favorite professors. He has remained president of the CREEPS ever since. A week ago, on September 17th, 1997, he was found in the nearby forest with a blade through his chest, a circle of twigs around him, and weird markings on the trees around him. Found a ways away was his investigation notebook with several pages torn out of it. Fortunately, the CREEPS are off the hook, as you were all attending what would have been a weekly meeting at the time of death. Unfortunately, Cypress’s death seems to be because of his connection to the club and its investigations. Which means if you don’t do something about it, you may be next.
Expectations
- Heavily inspired by things like Gravity Falls, Starkid’s Hatchetverse, and a hint of TMA (which I have not finished but am thoroughly enjoying.) If that’s not the vibe you enjoy, then this might not be for you.
- I’m hoping this is just as much of a fun found family vibe as it is a scary ghost hunting story. Your characters are welcome to mess around a bit and go on some side quests, it helps develop personality as well as relationships between characters. This is your story just as much as it is mine, so the decisions your characters make will be important.
- That being said, while I’m not going to railroad y’all, there is a story to be told here and I’d appreciate it if you weren’t like “screw this we’re all going on a road trip instead of solving the mystery” or something like that, yk? Side quests are perfectly fine as long at they don’t become the main and only quest
- Bad days happen. Bad weeks happen. It’s completely understandable, and your life takes priority over the roleplay. I would hope for a full cycle through of everyone within one or two days, but if that’s not possible for you then please just hit us up that you might be inactive so the rp doesn’t die and we’ll catch you up to date when you get back.
- This is a story that will eventually have an end, though it might not be for quite a while. I plan for a couple different “arcs” both within the mystery and ones that I have yet to come up with but will when we get our cast sorted.
- I adore a good romance, and it is welcome, but this story is not going to be focused around romance and shipping. It can be a great way to enhance a story, but it will not be taking center stage.
- I enjoy some minor plotting, so let’s discuss stuff OOC! I would love to talk about ways to traumatize utilize your characters in the plot to the fullest potential, discuss relationships between characters, headcanons, and theories you may have about what’s going on.
- I also hope to be friends. We don’t have to be besties on day one obviously, but I think the best rp partners are the ones you have some sort of connection with.
- If you’re having issues with another player, please bring it to me. Harassment will not be tolerated.

President
Closed
Handles all the approval stuff with the University, plans the meetings, decides which investigations take priority, and helps the others stay on task and offers help when they need it. They have good leadership and management skills. (Currently being handled by VP)
Vice President
open
Has been part of the club since it was (re)founded, and a close friend of the President. Handled things the President didn’t like transportation, scheduling logistics, and team disputes. Now, they’ve had all the responsibility of running the club and keeping its members safe on top of the grief of losing their best friend.
Lead Investigator
open
Interviews clients and witnesses, scopes out the best places to look for ghosts and other weird things, and is usually the first one to walk head first into the potentially dangerous area. The most hands-on out of the team, and also the most likely to pick up a cursed object.
Psychic
ask
Provides a different perspective on the hunt. Using their abilities to sense high energies and relay information from spirits. They find which areas of a location have the highest chance of success at communication and help keep the team safe from potentially dangerous spirits
Skeptic
ask
Every ghost hunting team needs one. Sometimes it really is just a breeze or raccoons in the attic, and it’s important to know when that’s the case. Keeps the team from falling too hard to their own beliefs about ghosts and the supernatural.
Tech Expert
open
Sets up and keeps the equipment working. Knows how to track and analyze changes in temperature, weird radio waves, EMF, any sign a ghost might be nearby. They also are the most skilled with computers than anyone else on the team, so they often end up helping the Book Nerd search through any digital libraries and work with the Documentation Specialist to get photos and videos uploaded.
Book Nerd
open
Visits libraries, archives, and museums to research history, folklore, and occasional criminal cases. Usually handles the work before investigating the site itself. More of a ‘behind the scenes’ member, but still attends the ghost/cryptid/alien hunts anyways to help keep information straight.
Documentation Specialist
open
Takes detailed notes, photos, and videos if available of all the investigations, and keeps all the past and present records organized. The cameraman and archivist of the team. Works closely with the Lead Investigator when interviewing people and searching places and the Book Nerd keeps tabs on all the things they find in their research.
Here For a Good Time
open
Not a hardcore believer, but not an unyielding skeptic either. Never been super into the ghost or cryptid or alien stuff on either side, they’re here for the fun of hanging out with some weird people like them. They bring snacks and valuable morale to the team, and make sure everyone doesn’t get too wrapped up in their investigations and they touch grass every once in a while. Most likely an old friend of one of the other teammates.

Expectations
Characters
Characters should be 18-24, being undergraduates at WWU (with those extra two years thrown in for the sake of gap years and extra semesters). They should all have a sense of having been friends for a little while, and be cooperative with the others. Cold, standoffish, and mean characters are fine but they shouldn’t be on a team that they want no part in helping out on or hate all the people in.
Characters are also expected to be flawed and realistic. Please none of that “their only flaw is that they are too nice and sweet teehee” I just cannot. I love nice characters, but they need something to make them a person.
I’ve mentioned this in my intro, but I’m a freak who likes to write for more than one character on my online rps. It’s only fair that I open that up to the players I host for imo. I have my twins (not counting Cypress because he’s… dead), and so I’ll allow my players to submit and play two characters if they so choose. I might not choose both depending on how much attention this gets so you might get a DM about which one you would prefer if it comes down to it.
It’s a mystery-focused roleplay so there will be quite a few NPCs to talk to that I’ll be handling, but if there are any other characters from your character’s backstories or life you are either welcome to play them or give them to me and I’ll put my GM skills to work.
The actual character sheet will be up on the characters page as soon as I’m done with it.
Roles
Putting these here just to have an idea of what a future character might look like before the character sheet is finished.
