Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Tome helped the doctor pack what he would need for the castle, carefully and strategically to get all of the necessary things in the least amount of time. It was something he was used to doing, being fast but efficient at the same time. It sometimes seemed to be contradictory, but he'd learned to do a great many contradictory things growing up and this was the least challenging of them. When the doctor was done, he sent a nurse to bring a carriage for them to get his things to the castle.

As the doctor was wrapping up, Tome went out to retrieve Mia again, and didn't quite like her expression or posture. She seemed guilty of something, but he didn't have time for that now - perhaps she had just been moving about and ignored his order. If so, he couldn't be bothered with it, as there was no one important around to see.

"Let's go." He said simply, walking past her and nodding for her to follow. "We'd best get back before we're missed." He was also used to doing things in an expected but completely unreasonably small amount of time. Such was his life.

((Night :) ))

There wasn't really the time for Mia to completely calm down when Tome was already back and ready to leave. 'That was quick' She thought to herself before turning around and following him back. She felt the small bulge in her pocket as she walked, but tried to ignore it as it pressed softly against her leg. A poison... She was carrying poison and what for? Sometimes she didn't really understand herself. As she thought about it, she followed Tome, her hand resting absently on top of her pocket.

No... She did know why. She would kill that man. She would kill him because he deserved it. She would kill him and so everything would finally end. Mia would be able to be free from all of this and she would finally avenge those she had loved so much. She glanced at Tome before looking down again, and she... She wouldn't have to keep on thinking of ways to hurt Tome, because in reality she didn't want to harm him nor his sister. Not directly, at least, because she was determined on killing their father after all.

Tome was silent the entire way back to the castle, and even then only called for the guards to open the gates. When they were inside again, he took the horse back to the stables and took Mia back inside. "They're going to put us to work today. You'll most likely end up cleaning somewhere away from me, but don't worry. The staff, at least, is kind enough. They'll show you what to do. You're mine, so anyone that tries to mistreat you will answer to me." They didn't respect him, but he could still beat them into the ground with the valid reason of their trying to tell his property what to do.

(( gtg to work))

"Oh, okay" She said with a small nod. She might as well find a way to poison the king as she was at it. She gave him a small smile "I'd be fine" She would be okay, the only thing that worried her was that anyone would notice she was carrying that bottle with her.

(Oh, okay ^^ Have a good day! x) )

((It wasnt bad. I didn't bang my funny bone or get a paper cut so all is well lol I need band aids much too often at work -_- I have a reputation for it now I think))

Tome nodded and just kept leading her along. "Still. If anyone touches you, find a way to tell me and ill take care of it." He smirked faintly to himself. "I do enjoy having a real reason to beat some of these people into the floor in a fair fight." But his 'fights' were almost never fair. He'd learned to deal with the hand he was given.

(Lol! Sounds like a good day to me x) So you're like the type of person that gets hurt easily?)

Mia raised her eyebrow as she looked at him, it was faint, but there was a smile on his face. Now Mia wasn't really used to see him smiling, so that caught her off guard for a moment. So the things that were able to make him smile were fights and his sister? She covered her mouth with her hand to muffle a chuckle. She nodded before speaking "Ok. I'll tell you then"

((I'm just the type of person that gets hurt OFTEN lol half of its 'cause I have some sort of low body awareness - I'm constantly smacking my hands on chairs and hitting my shoulders into door frames xD my mom once said Im not and accident waiting to happen, im an accident in progress))

Tome nodded and just brought her to where the maids were, handing her off into their care. He himself went to a different wing of the castle entirely to receive his orders. It looked like for now he would just be doing tedious servant's work. That was all right, though. He did sometimes enjoy taking care if the horses.

((Night))

(Lol! My friends call me clumsy and I am, but I just fall all the time xD Fortunately I get hurt rarely when I fall, it's just the embarrassment of falling in front of many people what's left XP)

Mia was ordered to handle simple things actually, cleaning duties and such. It felt as if she was back to being the normal slave she was before working in Tome's house, it was almost natural. As she worked, she was also trying to come up with a way to get the poison to reach the king somehow. The easiest way she could think of, was poisoning either his food or drink. When she was thinking that through, something caught her eye as she walked down a hall. She tilted her head to the side, brow raised as she peeked out from a window to the castle's grounds. Was that Tome? But... he seemed to be working. Like really working as if he was just any other normal person. Or was she making a mistake? Maybe he just liked to take care of the horses "Why is the king's son working?" She wondered out loud.

(Sorry if there are mistakes! Writing over the phone)

((I never fall all the way, i just trip epically and flail a little before catching myself lol my friends follow me around going "theres a crack. theres a rock. theres a wet spot" xD ))

The maid working nearby looked up at Mia when she spoke, a young girl and one prone to gossip, but not unkindly. "The King's son?" She inquired, already moving over to see what she meant. "Oh. It's been so long since anyone's called him that I almost forget." She shook her head and moved away to continue her cleaning. "He's always getting the hard jobs, whenever he's here." She frowned a little to herself. "It's like they're trying to break him, but he refuses to be broken. . . You should have been here before he and the princess left. Or, you should feel lucky you weren't, I guess, if just that upsets you. It wasnt pretty."

( You've got good friends then xD Mine do not say anything at all, they love to see me fall xD They are like "Oh, there she goes again")

Mia's brows furrowed "Break him? Why so? How could The King allow that? Isn't he his son? Or didn't he know?" Somehow Mia doubted that, even more when she had noticed just how cold he seemed to be towards him or how much the others ignored his presence. But... he had allowed Tome into his home! He had allowed him to live under the same roof as him. Mia had figured he had accepted him as his son. Elliot hadn't even been allowed there nor did The King ever saw him.

((My friends and i abuse lovingly with words and insults xD when it comes to physical injuries, we're careful, especially 'cause i know someone that can just find mud or anything slippery like a magnet and falls in it all the time. She doesnt have good balance and im pretty sure the emergency people know her by name now. . . It's kinda sad lol))

The maid nodded, her expression sad and full of pity she would never actually show the king's son, knowing he wouldn't be happy. "Oh, the King knows. . . Just . . ." She sighed quietly and flushed a little, knowing she had to admit she shared others' prejudices. "His son is half elf, and half faerie. . . It's unheard of. He was always shunned." She shook her head, taking down a small statue to clean it. "Sometimes I thought they kept him around just to punish him." That was what had happened all the time. It was like they only kept him to use a halfbreed as a punching bag.

(Oh, dear now that's something xD The worst thing that has happened to me has been that I've twisted my ankle 4 times already, but nothing else, yeah I scrape myself and such but I avoid going to the Doctor if I can. My mom kind of gets angry with me each time I get hurt, she's just so overprotective)

Mia's eyes widened at her words "He..." She glanced down again her own hands clenching on the window's frame. And what if he was a half breed !? Her own little brother was a half breed! Would have he been treated like that if he had been brought to the castle? That's outrageous! She felt something buzzing on her ears. Yeah, it was... hate. Poisoning hate. No wonder that man was so tough, no wonder he was covered with so many scars, no wonder he had not been what she had expected at all. Now even more than ever she could never do something to hurt him. Not out of pity, but because he absolutely didn't deserved it. He must have hate this place, but had returned for his sister's sake. She could just nod at the girl "I see" She finally said. She was much more determined now, she would kill The King, and she just hoped and wished he would suffer and painfully agonize as he died.

((lol well the person I know that falls all the time is like 40, so she goes in for all her sprained ankles and wrists and stuff))

The maid winced a little, knowing it was wrong but unable to change her perception of him. She took Mia's short answers as a hint to just stop talking now and went back to her work. Hopefully the King's son never found out she'd told her any of those things. He wouldn't be happy.

(Oh my O.o So did that happen like a lot when she was younger as well? (Not saying that she's old xD ))

Mia sighed a bit before pushing herself off the window. Guess not everybody had an easy life. She shook her head as she went back to the work she had been assigned. It was like that all day long until night time finally arrived. At the end of the day, she sighed as she sat down at the kitchen table. This kitchen was huge and so was the table. The other servants ate cheerfully, the whole place was quite lively to be honest. It reminded Mia of the kitchen back at Tome's house, it was so silent and lonely sometimes.

She was deep in thought to talk with the others actually. Before, something had caught her eye, when the meal had been served to the royals. If she managed to poison The King's food the next day... Maybe she wouldn't even have to wait until nigh time, she could even do it during the breakfast or lunch. She stood up from her stool slowly when she was done, maybe the would tell her where she had to sleep for that night.

Tome was seated far down the table, as far from his father as he could be placed, and worried that Fawn wasn't at the table. As soon as he could politely be dismissed, he left and hurried through the castle and up to where she was resting. She'd eaten, at least, which was good, but she was looking pale and had fallen asleep shortly afterwards. Tome advised the doctor, but couldn't be allowed to stay with her, even though he wanted to. He had to start making rounds with the guards.
((Oh woops. Yeah, she did it a bit when she was younger too lol But not nearly as bad. You don't break as easy when you're young, either.

Anywho, gtg to work. Bye!))

(Yeah, I guess that's right. Oh! Have a nice day! Hope it goes smoothly xD )

Mia was asked to stay behind and handle a couple more of other things, she was okay with it though and they weren't tough. So she just did what she was asked to do, it was better anyway, she was once again in need of finding something to do and there was, fortunately, a lot to do on that big place, for she was aware of the fact that she wouldn't even be able to sleep to sleep a wink that night, too many things to think about, too many things to worry about. That was going to be a long night, even more when she couldn't wait for tomorrow to come.

((Lol it was okay. It's just work))

Tome guided Mia to the female servants' quarters where she would sleep, then headed to the male servants' quarters where he could find his own bed. He was teased and jeered at for stepping foot inside the women's building, accused of 'trying to make more freak babies', but he ignored them all. He laid down in bed, out his back to them, and tried to sleep. It was difficult, not being able to be near Fawn after being her only caretaker so long, but he had to manage sleep. He needed his energy in this place.

(I know xD )

Mia laid back on her assigned bed. Some chattered around her but Mia didn't feel like talking. She was not antisocial, she was just not in the mood? Was that the word she was looking for? She sighed as she closed her eyes. From time to time she could hear some of the female servants talking about her, mainly because of who had it been the one who had brought her there. She just ignored it all.

Tomorrow... Tomorrow she would fulfill her revenge. Miraculously, she managed to fall asleep at one point. It was kind of restless though, she had blurry dreams and such. Nevertheless, when morning came and she was woken up to start that new day, she felt refreshed and anxious to be honest, kind of wavering regarding what she was going to do, but not enough to get cold feet.

((Should we just skip to the attempted poisoning?))

Tome slept as well as he ever had in this place - that is to say, he forced himself asleep through practiced efforts and slept as lightly as always, wary of any attacks or other abuses while he slept. In the morning, he shined shoes and armor both, sharpened weapons and made sure everything was ready for 'real soldiers' as one elf put it. He was used to these things, at least. He could still do them properly while worrying for his sister.

(Yeah.. Mmm I think I'll do it at lunch time! So.. Skip!)

As dinner time the previous day, the kitchen was kind of packed. Some servants were already eating their lunches, others just prepared the royal ones. Some plates were sent to the dinning room, but those were just the starters, no main courses yet. Then she saw it, it was exactly the same plate which had been served to The King the day before. Also, judging by the way everyone was much more focused on it than the rest it just had to be that one. Mia took in a deep breath before making her way to it.

She was lucky enough to be able to get near without really being noticed. The others were rather busy and though they did pay attention to it, Mia had this ability to just blend in. It was now or never, and though she still felt herself undecided, for she had never even thought of killing someone before, she opened the small bottle she had carried with her all along and emptied all over the meal before walking past it and retrieving the plate of her own lunch. Just then she sat down on one empty stool at the kitchen table, glancing from the corner of her eye as the main courses were sent away. Her heart was beating rather quickly as she just hoped to hear something that would let her know her plan had succeeded, even if everything seemed to go rather too smoothly for that.

((Ill reply in the morning k? So tire -_- night))
Tome didn't eat lunch with the family. He hard.t ate with the servants, taking his food quickly and then dismissing himself to continue his work. He was returning a few weapons to the right room when the shouting began, and he rushed to see what was happening, to see if Fawn was somehow involved. She wasnt, but in the dining room, their father was red-faced with anger, the royal taster was on the ground in conclusions, and everyone was looking at him. He didn't know what had happened, but somehow the blame was going to land on his shoulders.

As the shouting reached Mia's ears, she had to do her best not to stand up immediately and rush to the kitchen's doors as most of the servants were doing. Instead, she slowly left her plate aside and covertly peeked out her head to the dinning room along with the others. Her own eyes widened at the scene. The King was alive! Her eyes darted from his angered face to the man who was writhing on the floor. Had she failed? She had indeed failed. Now what? She suddenly felt cold all over, she had really failed. She was even too busy with her thoughts to see who were everyone looking at.

Tome stood wide-eyed in place as the commotion grew, until everyone silenced as the King began to shout.

"Get me the boy!"

Tome could see where his eyes were going, over Tome's own shoulder, and he could hear guards' boots. He ducked, as a metal staff the guards carried swung at his head, spinning even as he straightened up to defend himself. But he couldn't. Not here. He never could. If something was put on his shoulders he was supposed to stand there and take it, like he always had, if only to be sure that no one else had his fate. The next swing, he moved too slow, those thoughts circling through his head, and with a loud clang that echoed through the now almost quiet room, he collapsed to the ground, unconcsious. He was going to have a nasty bruise when he woke, but that was the least of his worries.

"Just what the hell are you doing?" Mia suddenly snapped and, before she even realized it, she was already making her way through the servants and through the small crowd to the man who was now passed out on the floor. She bended down by Tome, her own eyes widening as she saw the injury the metal staff had left. But why? Why had he been the one attacked? He was suddenly so pale. She looked up at The King, her eyes shimmering with hatred "Why did you do such a thing?" She said, her voice loud and strangely loaded with rage. She could feel everyone's surprised and infuriated gazes upon her, but she didn't care.

((Sorry, I was at a friend's house and there was too much going on to continue replying))

There was a faint commotion as a slave of all people dared to defy the King's will. It was ended when the King waved his hand and said, almost dismissively, to 'take the girl too.' The guards came forward after that, restraining her as they picked up Tome's limp body, and carried them both to the dungeons.
