Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Tome glanced back, once or twice, when Mia moved around, listening to both her and Joachim to be aware if anyone needed anything. He had to divide his attention between them and the road and their surroundings, though, and so didn't hear Mia humming until Joachim started to rumble quietly at her, contently.

Tome looked back to see Joachim curled half around Mia with her leaning against his side, eyes curious and watching her closely. He knew that Mia and Tome were basically his parents, as he'd imprinted on them when he was born, but it was still strange to have him look at either of them like they were his world. At least, it was to Tome. He wasn't used to that.

Yawning a little, Joachim curled his tail around to lay gently over Mia's hip, wing folding out slightly around her shoulder, and slowly relaxed until he looked to be drifting off to sleep.

((That is both beautiful and strangely creepy at the same time :) I like it

I thought it would be funny if the humming put Tome to sleep too, like some sort of siren-ish spell, but then figured I didn't want them to crash or him to fall off xD ))

Mia's voice grew softer and lower, until eventually, it came to be a gentle whisper. Upon the realisation that Joachim had finally fallen asleep, her humming was a mere murmur. She did so absently and when it finally came to a stop, she raised her head "He's asleep" She declared under her breath.

( xD You just described the movie I took it from in two perfecto words, beautiful and creepy. Lol, Mia would be like ... What happened? O.o )

Tome blinked a few times when Mia stopped humming, having gotten a bit lost in listening to her. When she spoke, he turned around to see Joachim's eyes closed, the dragon curled around her and snoozing quietly. "Oh. . ." He smiled faintly. "Good. He'll feel better if he sleeps a while. It'll make the trip go faster." He glanced at Mia, then, almost shyly. "That . . . That was very pretty. . . I . . . I wish you would sing more, sometimes." He liked to listen to her.

Mia arched an eyebrow before the corners of her mouth raised into a small happy smile, her cheeks glowing really faintly with a rosy colour at his statement "If ... If you'd read to me more often, I could also sing more" She replied as she glanced up at him "I like to hear you reading" She admitted, and since she couldn't she'd appreciated it if he would. The one time he had read a book in her presence, he had read to Fawn, and she had enjoyed it, if he could do so again ... she'd be happy about it "What do you say?" She asked.

Tome looked sheepish, and almost embarrassed, because he'd forgotten she couldn't read, and he really should have been trying to teach her by now but . . . things had been difficult. He needed to get over it. He needed to be better for her. "O - Okay. . ." He said, quietly, and nodded a little to myself. "I can do that. . . I . . . I could teach you. . . If you want me to." She said she liked to hear him, but surely she would also like to read things for herself, as well.

Mia's smile grew a bit smaller when he offered to teach her to read. She lowered her head before raising it again, as if ashamed "That ... I'd really love to but ... I sort of can't" She shifted a bit "Actually I was diagnosed with a reading disorder when I wad just a little girl. It wasn't as bad at the beginning but gradually it got worse; I would frequently misspell or misread some words, as well as had difficulty in sentence construction or visualizing words. Most of all I tend to change the words' order and it all gets messef up" She shook her head, that very much frustrated her and made her feel like an idiot, though her mother used to tell her it was something her grandfather had suffered from as well but had been confused with a learning problem as he hadn't consulted with a Doctor his condition. However, her mother, who had noticed her daughter only had problem on that area had chosen to ask a professional about it, truly, Mia didn't have any other problems in another area other than that "I'm sorry" She declared, rather discouraged.

Tome blinked a few times, silent and thoughtful - and, somehow, vaguely guilty. "I . . ." He tried a few times, to form words, and ultimately failed. Finally, though, he locked one knee against the bench so that he could lean back far enough to reach for one of her hands. "No." He said, firmly, but kindly. "Don't say sorry. Don't - Don't apologize for something that's not your fault, and that isn't anything to be sorry for." He shook his head sharply. "You . . . I'll read to you." His voice softened a little, his fingers curling tighter around her hand. "Whenever you want. . . Whatever you want. . . I'll read to you."

Mia didn't look up until his hand came to view and she was surprised enough to look up at him when it closed around hers. She heard him, and his words were so comforting, that she couldn't stop a smile from settling on her face when he finished with declaring that he'd read to her. She did hate that problem of hers ... but perhaps, and only perhaps a good thing that could come out of it was what he was offering her. Shifting her hand a bit so as to be able to curl her fingers around his as well, her gaze softened and her smile grew warmer "Then I'll do the same, 'whenever you want, whatever you want, I'll sing to you" She declared.

Tome's cheeks went a bit pink, and his eyes shifted away because he still wasn't used to anyone wanting to do anything for him, especially not because they cared about him. "All right. . ." He said, quietly. "We have a deal, then." He squeezed her hand carefully, and finally had to let it go to sit back up, though he stayed mostly facing her. "Whenever we stop for the night, I'll read to you for a little while. . . Okay?" They had candles and lanterns for lighting once the sun was down, so he could read her a bedtime story. It had always soothed Fawn enough to sleep, and Tome liked the act of it as well.

"A deal it is" Mia nodded and maintained her small smile as Tome stated he'd read to her later on that day. Her gaze remained on him as she softly leaned her back against the wall. Tome he ... had really changed. She knew that, and was aware of that fact, but it still amazed her just how things had changed between them from the first time they had met to now. Guess he had always been like that deep inside ... after all she had gotten the chance to catch small glimpses of that caring nature of his whenever he found himself around Fawn. "I knew I wasn't wrong" She said out loud, the hand which he had been holding resting on top of Joachim softly.

Tome smiled just a little, looking forward again to be sure they were on course, and blinked a little when he thought he heard her say something. ". . . Wrong?" He looked back at her, leaning on a hand to see her since the curtain between them was kept drawn half back already. "Weren't wrong about what?" He looked down to see if Joachim was still sleeping. "Did he wake?" He had no idea what she was talking about. That happened disconcertingly often.

Mia blinked when she realized she had actually spoken her thoughts out loud. "Oh no, he's still asleep" She declared, shooting a glance in his direction to make sure just in case though, before she returned her stare back to Tome. "I was just thinking that I hadn't been wrong in ... " Pausing for a second, she shifted a bit while the corners of her mouth lifted lightly "In falling in love" She stated.

Corny much? Yeah, but ... well she could be open about it now, couldn't she? And either way she was just being honest as he had asked her to be. After having stated that, she had tilted her head to the side and had used to back of her hand to support her cheek while, with her gaze still laid on him, she simply smiled softly.

Joachim didn't seem to mind her leaning on and over him to see Tome. He only curled up a bit tighter around her, seeking out her embrace even in his sleep, and gave a little snuffling sound while he slept on. Tome smiled faintly at the sound, but flushed a little darker at Mia's own words. Shifting a little uncomfortably, he tapped his fingers against the seat beneath him, anxiously and without any sort of tune. "You . . . You thought you were before?" He supposed he'd given her a whole lot of reason for that, and there wasn't any accusation in his voice, or disappointment, just a resigned sort of acceptance. He had her now. He didn't have to worry about her hating him anymore. . . Right?

Mia raised an eyebrow and had looked down to Joachim when his grip around her tightened q bit, just to caress his skin softly so as to pet him in his sleep. When Tome asked his question she looked back at him, and her smile faltered for a moment before it grew a little smaller.

"Sort of ... but it was no because of you" More like she had been afraid that he wouldn't want her, and so she'd rather shut down her feelings than trouble him by confessing them.

Tome shook his head a little, fingers tightening around the reigns but making sure not to pull so as not to confuse the horses. "But I didn't help." He said, and sighed quietly because he didn't want to upset her. He stayed mostly facing her, even though he wouldn't look at her, not wanting her to think he was being his old self. He didn't want her to think he'd stopped believing she loved him. ". . . Will you look at the map for me again?" We should be nearing a fork in the road soon."

Mia lowered her head when he made his statement and she remained quiet as well. It took her a few seconds to actually reply, and when she did, she shook her head as a relatively small and settled on her lips "Neither of us did" She corrected him before he asked of her to take a look at the map.

With a nod, the young girl grabbed the map and skimmed her eye through it "There, in a few meters actually. You should take ... the left one" She declared, as she slid her fingertip through the map so as to follow a route.

Glad for the subject change, Tome only nodded and waited for the road to start curving, directing the horses to the left as they went along. They hit a bump in the road, which was unavoidable, and loud and disruptive enough to wake Joachim. Tome cringed as the child dragon made a startled sound and then just whined plaintively, fumbling a front paw around Mia's back to try and pull her closer. He whined at her and rubbed his head against her, the tip of his tail curling around her leg in distress.

"Sh, sh, sh, it's all right, Joachim." Tome soothed from where he sat, though he had to keep his eyes on the road. "Just a bump. We're all right. Everything's okay."

((Night :) ))

Mia had jumped a bit as they hit the bump, which caused for everything around her to shake and move. For a moment, she felt confused but was snapped out of it when she felt Joachim's touch. "It's okay, Joachim. Everything is fine" She told him soothingly, wrapping her arms around him and scooting closer so as to calm him down "It's fine" She told him again, caressing his scaly skin gently and tenderly.

Joachim made a high-pitched sort of rumble, worried still, and pushed into her hands, then just curled up tight around her again, wing still wrapped loosely around her back to keep her pressed against him where he felt he would be safer. Tome sighed softly and stroked the back of the dragon's head where he could reach. "It's all right, Joachim." He said gently. "We're all okay." Soon this would all be over, and they could go home again and stop worrying so much about every little thing.

Mia's brows furrowed at Joachim's worried rumble, and, after shifting a bit, she carefully slid her hands under the dragon's neck before she raised it gently so as to get him to look at her. "Hey, it okay" Her voice was soothing and tender, her eyes softening as they met with Joachim's big and wide ones "It's okay" She repeated, lifting one hand to the side of his head to caress it while leaving the other under his chin "Don't worry, everything is gonna be all right"

Joachim watched Mia carefully, glancing at Tome every now and then, and finally made a low pitched trilling sort of sound at her. He twisted his neck to try and lick one of her hands, and nudged into her arm as if to say he believed her. He cooed at her and rubbed his head against her leg, then started to settle agin

"Sometimes we hit bumps, Joachim." Tome said softly. "It'll be all right, though. And you'll get used to it soon."

A relieved smile settled upon Mia's lips when Joachim began to calm down, and so she scooted closer to him again. She raised her head when Tome spoke and with a small nod she caressed the dragon's head "He'll be okay, no need to worry" She declared.

(Sorry Nala! I was on vacation and upon entering the country my computer got lost on the airport v.v Fortunately after a while they managed to find it and sent it to me, but after quite a while :/ )

((Oh god, that's horrible O.o if I travel I keep things like that in my carry on. Usually only the replaceable stuff is in my actual luggage))

Tome sighed softly, worried, and sat up straight again, facing forward. "We're all right," he murmured quietly, knowing Joachim would hear, then a bit louder. "Maybe it you sing to him he'll sleep again." Joachim had seemed all right with sleeping while traveling earlier. Maybe he was more comfortable with that.

((Did you want to skip to them being at her parents' house, or shall we just jump ahead to a different point in travel?))

(Yeah, I do so too ... But this time it wasn't my fault :/ My mom asked for me to lend it to her, so I did. Then after the landing, I asked her if she had my laptop with her and she told me she did, so I didn't worry. Later she realised she had actually left it on the plane and forgot to take it with her. I seriously wanted to kill her! And then we couldn't go back into the plane and the crew told us there wasn't any laptop onboard ... But then we called the next day, and the day after that and so on. Really, I was absolutely relieved when they called us later and told us they had found it, I was pretty mad at my mom though ... )

Mia glanced up at Tome before she looked back down at Joachim, nodding. If it willed him to sleep ... The young girl chose a different lullaby this time. She tried to play the lyrics on her head before actually singing, lowly as before. It was a song her mother used to sing both to her brother and her.

After that, the trip carried on pretty much like that. Fortunately, it seemed as if Joachim was gradually getting used to the road, so they didn't have to calm him down much after that episode. Mia would give Tome directions whenever he needed it and kept the track of the meals, though aside for that they didn't talk much. Perhaps it was because each time she felt they were nearing her father's town her heart would beat so fast that it felt as if it would burst out of her chest. She thought she had gotten over it, after all it hadn't been that much of a horrible experience when they were there before, but maybe it was because back then she only worried about looking for Fawn.

When they finally reached Ladavia night had fallen and the small town was somehow quiet, though not completely void of life. Mia felt herself tensing up, and had gotten a bad feeling when she had peeked her head out to see their surroundings. She ... didn't quite like the stares - more like glares - the few people who were walking on the streets were throwing towards their direction, much less when she noticed whom they were throwing at; Tome.

(This is the lullaby)

(I hope you don't mind I simply time skipped. Well more like because we weren't really doing much on the trip. Though if you had any idea in mind Nala just tell me so and I can change my post! :) )

((Oh god that's almost worse O.o I would've been soooo mad at my mother))

Tome was glad the traveling part of the trip went relatively well. Joachim adjusted, after the first day, to being in the carriage. He would cry when he needed to go out, because he knew he wasn't supposed to do so inside, or just when he wanted to stretch his wings for a while. He was young still, and they made frequent stops for him and themselves. Tome didn't mind. So long as they arrived before Mia's father died, they could make as many stops as needed.

Once in the town Tome vaguely remembered, things started to go just a bit south. He knew where he was going, even by just the light of the lanterns hanging on hooks at either side of the carriage, and even if he didn't want to remember it, but the people were fast to recognize him for what he was even in that dim lighting. Whether they cared simply because he wasn't human in a predominantly human town, or if it was because he was a half breed, he didn't know, and didn't care. He'd grown used to facing looks like theirs all the time, and only kept his posture a bit less than straight, looking at no one and nothing in particular as they moved. He knew that holding his head high would only bring more reproach to these sorts of people.

Driving the carriage, Tome was the most exposed, and he left it that way, shooing Mia quietly back inside when she looked out, and having her keep Joachim quiet. They wouldn't be able to hide the dragon, but they could make his presence as little known and surreptitious as possible.

"Will they let us park behind the house?" Tome asked quietly when they grew near the right property. "Joachim might need to stay in the carriage, at first. . ." At least, Tome hoped it wouldn't be long before the young dragon could come out. He didn't want to leave Joachim alone for long.

((Totally cool :) we were very literally going absolutely nowhere lol))
