Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Mia couldn't help it but sigh, but the puzzled look on her face dissolved into a faint smile eventually "Here, look at me" Clasping both of his hands between the two of hers, her amethyst gaze looked for his golden one and when the two of them met, she pulled back one of her hands before raising it to his face "Look me in the eyes" With only her fingertips, she gently brushed some loose strands of his hair back "I know you're worried, Tome. But I'm fine, I really really am" That being said, her hand slipped down so as to use it to cup his face "Do you really not believe me?"

Tome felt just a bit shameful, thing to corral her so, and only looked at her when she asked it of him, sighing softly at the brush of her fingers over his skin. "I . . ." He started quietly, voice a bit apologetic. "I believe that you believe you're well." He shook his head slowly. "But I saw you wobble, and it looked to me more than just standing too quickly. I just want you to rest so that you may take this trip without the added physical burden." He knew it would be hard for her emotionally, and turned his head slightly away. "I'm sorry, Mia. I . . . You know I always air on the side of caution when it comes to illness." He couldn't help that. It had become second nature.

Eyes softening at his last remark, Mia finally gave in with a small nod "It's okay" She declared in a bit of a sigh at the same time she allowed for her to hand to fall down "I understand, I... will lay down for a tiny bit, okay?" And though she had said that she didn't move one inch, however, eventually she forced herself to do so, first one foot and then the other, until she finally dragged her feet back to her bed. And she was supposed to be the stubborn one! But how could she? When he said something like that? It was so strange having someone worrying for her that much. Like, before she'd have been forced to work even if she was falling to pieces, and now she was sent to rest because of one unimportant drop on blood pressure.

Tome let Mia move away from him and nodded a little, not daring to call it a victory because he knew how stubborn she could be. "Thank you, Mia. . . I'll go and get the wagon and the horses, and we can just leave after that. I won't be very long." Malia had already set everything up while he finished packing and preparing, after all. He just had to get the equipment and the horses and bring them back. He hoped Joachim would be okay with this whole traveling thing. They couldn't very well leave him here.

Mia watched Tome go before she allowed for a long sigh to leave her mouth, frankly speaking she'd have preferred to help him instead of staying there in bed and doing nothing. Tossing and turning in bed Mia didn't properly rest during the whole time Tome was away while he was taking care of the preparations for their trip. There was a knot on her stomach that didn't allow her to relax enough to actually rest.

When the first painful twinge startled her, she had to bid farewell to the resting thing definitely. Hugging her stomach by reflex, Mia curled on herself when the same painful abdominal pain struck again. What the-? Without being able to stop a small groan from escaping her lips, the young girl quickly made sure she was still alone in the room as she straightened her back, trying to act as if nothing was happening even though she felt a rather faint gnawing pain in her stomach.

((Might be my only reply, right now, 'cause I'm trying to spend less time online today))

Tome was gone for perhaps twenty minutes before he came back with the horses towing the wagon behind them. He left them to be fed before they left, and went back to see if Mia was ready to go. When he got back inside, though, even if she was lying down, there was a crease of pain in her brow, something he was used to checking for in his sister, along with the very beginning signs of pallor. "Mia?" He asked, voice concerned, eyes worried. "Are you all right? Do you feel sick again?" With the scare before, he had fell back into old patterns of automatically assessing her health when he looked at her.

"... No" True, she took a bit to reply, but gradually the painful sensation on her stomach had became much more endurable until simply a feeling of discomfort on the pit of her stomach that surely wouldn't be difficult to ignore remained. "I'm alright" She declared and with a low sigh, pushed herself up into a sitting position "Are we ready to go?" Giving him a small reassuring smile, Mia looked up at Tome.

Tome could hear the strain in her voice, moving over to take her arm and keep her steady, concern written on his face. "E-Everything is ready." He said after a pause, worried for her but knowing that whatever was going on would have to be diagnosed on the road because there wasn't any way she would miss this trip. She would never want to, and Tome was confident he could keep her healthy enough as they went. He would just grab a few extra things on the way out, medicines just in case. Anything else would have to be tamped down by his measly magic until they could reach their destination and make sure she was comfortable until she was better.

"I ended up not helping you one bit" Mia sighed as she threw him a glance "Thank you, again" She added and, though she had noticed his worry, she decided not to say anything on the matter, instead choosing to show him she was and would be fine, surely that stomach ache was nothing. "By the way, where's Joachim?" She knew they couldn't not take him with them, but even though she didn't want to get separated from him either, she'd rather not take her in that trip with them, as she felt that town where her father lived was horrible itself, or perhaps she was just being biased. She hoped so . . .

Tome sighed and finally just scooped her up into his arms, starting to walk. "He's waiting for us downstairs. He's worried about all the things going on, but he'll be okay once we're on the road, just us three. You can stay in the wagon with him and keep him calm." And rest. Do lots and lots of resting. Maybe she'd be happy if she thought she was just helping Joachim and nothing else.

Mia was frankly surprised when he scooped her up and though silly, a tiny bit of colour rushed to her cheeks. She heard his 'suggestion' - though more than a suggestion it sounded more like an order - and not willing to argue over yet another decision, she nodded "I reckon so. I'll stay with him then, to keep him calm of course" She replied.

(Sorry Nala! >.< Been busy with college lately v.v)

((It's okay :) I've been pretty busy too))

Tome gave her a concerned sort of look, hoping she wasn't upset at him for trying to take good care of her. He couldn't help it. It was just the thinking pattern burned into his brain since Fawn first starting getting sick as a little girl. "You'll be more comfortable back there with him. It's a long time to travel." When one wasn't feeling well it was, anyway.

"I know" Mia knew, as much as she could see on his eyes that they were filled with concern and she didn't mean to make him worry for something she frankly dismissed as simply an upset stomach. "Though if there's anything else you'd need help with throughout the trip just tell me, okay? That way I won't mind staying on the back with Joachim"

It was a trip they were making for her, and she wouldn't want for him to take care of everything, not only because she wouldn't want for him to handle it all on his own but also because she was used to be of help, she wanted to be of help, after all she had been taking care of herself for years by now, letting someone else do it for her was not an easy thing for her to do.

Tome nodded a little, conceding the point and agreeing because she would probably be angry if he didn't do at least that. "All right. . . You can navigate for me." He said, when he'd pushed open the door and carried her outside. "That way I don't have to direct the horses and think too much about the path at once." He could do it easily, but she wanted a job to have and that was really all he could think of. They would just be driving the carriage until they arrived. "You can keep track of meals, too." He was horrible at that when he was busy, and he knew it worried her.

"But you have to eat too when I say then" Mia replied as she shifted a bit so as to get a look of his face. Because he could be telling her the usual 'I have gone through longer periods of time without eating' or 'You need that more than me' or anything like that and she was definitely not taking those as an answer anymore. Truth was, the young girl had finally found people she truly cared about, and she really wanted to protect them too. Because she had taken care of a sickly person before too, and when she felt concerned about someone she was worried for real.

Tome nodded a little, a bit taken aback by her vehemence, as if he would just not eat. "Of course. . ." He assured gently. When they reached the wagon, he set her gently down near the back of it where a ramp would let her up into it easily, as well as Joachim. "Joachim will be brought over soon. Stay and get him inside, won't you?" He asked softly. "I have just one more thing to get before we go." He would just grab a couple of medicines from Malia, then they could leave.

Mia felt her legs dancing in the air a bit a split of second before she was set down in the floor. So it seemed that it did not only feel weird when she was picked up, bit also when she was returned to her feet. Funny thing.

She had been evaluating that feeling, that did not bring discomfort at all, when Tome spoke to her, hence stopping her train of thought. "Of course, I'll get him inside" She replied quickly with a nod.

How extremely refreshing it felt for her to have him by his side, as if he really maintained her fears away when he was there for her. A soft and grateful smile of her own settled on her lips as soon as her stare met his, before he walked away.

Finding Malia wasn't hard, as she was waiting to see him off not far away. She walked with him back to where the herbs and medicinal plants were kept and gave him what she thought he might need in a small bag to carry with him. Finally, he was ready with everything he needed, and he gave Malia a little kiss on the cheek, something that put a certain sparkle in her eye that he mostly just ran away from before she could act on it. It was still strange, thinking of her as his mother, and he wasn't prone to open displays of affection until he was very comfortable with a person. Somehow her possibly leaping on him and hugging him while he was trying to leave just felt uncomfortable.

When he got back to the carriage, Joachim was inside already and settled, for the most part, head up and looking around the covering above his head as if it was all very interesting. He held himself nervously, though, and Tome stopped to step up and give him a few strokes along his flank to calm him. "It's all right, Joachim. It's just a little trip."

"Already said goodbye?" Peeking her head outside from the carriage, Mia asked as soon as it seemed that Joachim had been calmed down and soothed by Tome's words. She had figured exactly what was that one thing he needed to do before going away, and a smile smile had been drawn on her features because of it. Malia really did seem to love her child, and Mia thought it was nice for Tome to finally have a real mom by his side, who'd convince him of just how loved had he been when he had been born.

The same thought of a parent though, made her uneasy. After all, her only living parent was dying, and she was rather scared of going to see him. Determined? Yes. Completely sure? Well that was a whole different story, even if both of the concepts proved to be so very contradictory.

Tome pulled the carriage's back door up behind him, closing the curtain as he moved away, and moved up front, stopping near Mia as he went. He nodded a little and ran a hand over Joachim's head. "I did. We'd best start moving now. Ready?" He walked up to the front and slipped out into the driver's bench, leaving the curtain open behind him so they could talk. "We're going to move forward now, Joachim. It'll be bumpy, all right? Don't be afraid."

Mia reached for the little dragon softly and gently pressed her cheek against his scaly skin "He'll be fine. He's a brave one" The light haired girl spoke to the dragon directly, an encouraging smile settled on her lips. It proved to be effective to encourage someone like that, to give them the security that there was not a thing to be afraid of.

Joachim rumbled softly and leaned his head into her, opening his mouth to give a soft whine and licked at her nearest hand. Tome smiled faintly and started the horses moving at a gradual pace. Joachim cringed and tensed a little, but relaxed again once he got used to the motion. He whined something at Mia and nosed into her shoulder, wanting to be held. Tome glanced back at them, one hand on the reigns, and gave a faint, reassuring smile. "It's okay, Joachim. I'm driving."

Mia, who had planted both of her hands on the floor, so as to give herself some support, gave out a soft smile as soon as Joachim nosed into her shoulder. And so, as carefully and gently as she could, she lifted her hands before wrapping them around the young dragon, leaning her head into him in the process. When Tome spoke, she raised her gaze to look at him and smiled herself at his efforts to reassure Joachim.

"Do you think we'll take long?" She asked after a while, taking into account that this time the two of them were not the only one going on the trip, she didn't quite know how much will it take now that they had another companion.

Tome considered a little while and shrugged. "It'll take a little longer to get there than if we were alone," He said, "Since we'll probably end up with more bathroom breaks, and occasional pauses if he gets too nervous. But it shouldn't add more than a day, if that, to the trip."

Joachim whined softly and nudged gently at her, encouraging her to lean on him since the carriage vibrated and jostled as it went along and he was heavy enough not to move much while lying down. He licked at her cheek, twisting to reach it, then just settled with her holding on to him. He felt better knowing she was keeping him steady, and he was doing the same for her. He was still a young dragon, after all, and at times still envisioned himself as a hatchling. Wanting to be held by Mother was natural for him.

Mia shifted, and gently settled herself in a position in which she could hold on to Joachim at the same time she tried to keep him steady, as she noticed he was doing for her. If she could do that much to keep him calm and at ease, it was fine. Either way, it did the same for her, his body heat was soothing and she even furrowed her head into his scaly skin lightly. "Well, it wouldn't be that bad to take long" She admitted. Truly, as she had mixed feeling on the matter, she somehow felt as if she didn't want to get there quick ... Was she even sure she wanted to get there before he died? It was a cruel thing to think, but it did cross her mind.

After a while, or what felt like quite a while, Mia finally raised her head to look up, and caught a glimpse of Tome's head from her position, which was more like laying down than sitting by now, her body fully leaning into Joachim, though she knew she wouldn't be heavy while being like that. A small and faint smile crept over her lips and she allowed for herself to just stare at him. Honestly, traveling in the company of a half-elf and a dragon ... She felt in a fairy tale.

While shifting a bit, Joachim moved a little, most likely to find a more comfortable position after having been on the same one for a while, Mia moved a bit and adjusted to the one he acquired next. Rubbing his skin softly, Mia's lips quivered before she started to hum lowly, something she used to do for Elliot when she willed him to sleep.

(Don't know why it won't let me post it :c But this is what Mia is humming *
