Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

"Ok" Mia nodded and walked over to her horse. Wasn't it getting late? Well they had gone out as soon as they had decided to go to the other town. Perhaps, they'd arrive later on the night?

(Yeah, maybe they should. Hmm how about he goes to the stream and when he returns Mia had already got the dragon? Perhaps they find could find it while it is still and egg but is soon to be hatched?)

((Yeah, maybe she can just find the egg while he's away. In a bush or something lol))

Tome took the canteens and walked away at a pace that was brisk but not a jog. He didn't take long, filling them once he arrived at the stream, but stayed for a minute or two to just listen to the sound of the water. They would be in a town soon and surrounded by people, which he didn't quite enjoy. He just wanted to take in what peace he could before they arrived.

Mia patted her horse on the snout absently as she thought of particularly nothing. After a couple of seconds or so, she decided to take a short walk. As such, she intertwined her fingers behind her back and dragged her feet to some bushes. She didn't go too far, she knew that, still on the distance she could get even the slightest glimpse of the horses. Sometimes, she preferred just to walk. A few seconds went by and she turned on her heels to return. But then she took a step back and, missing the protruding root from the ground she lost her balance and fell on her back.

It made her wince but she bit her cheek from the inside not to groan. She did complain after that though "Ouch" Rubbing her back, she brought her legs to herself to stand up. However, when she placed her hands on the ground, her fingers brushed against something smooth and slippery and so she looked down. It was a big, kind of white... egg? But it was so big. A rock perhaps? She tilted her head to the side a little and rolled over so as to be kneeled down facing the 'egg'. Like a small child she poked it softly, the egg rolled a bit to the back and then forth again. She did the same things a couple of times before she finally reached for it and brought it to herself.

It was heavy, sort of, and with care she scrambled to her feet with the help of one of her hands as she used her other arm to hold the egg to her side. "What are you?" She asked to no body, raising the egg a bit above her head. Beneath the pale moonlight the egg seemed to shimmer majestically. But what was that? A shadow it seemed.

((Sorry, I've been addicted to this show and I've been watching it all day O_O Like, almost literally all day. And most of yesterday, and a couple episodes the day before that xD I've only got one or two replies before I leave and then I'll be back late))

Tome walked a little more slowly back towards the horses, and didn't like that Mia wasn't there when he got back, but he spotted her easily. He started to raise a hand to call her over, but his eyes fell to the thing in her arms and went wide. As if startled, he turned and began searching the area in a slow turn, looking all around them and even up at the sky.

"Where did you get that?" He demanded, pointing an accusing finger at the pale shape in her arms. "Put it back. Put it back now!" They couldn't harbor an egg! Where an egg was, a parent was also. Even though . . . Even though . . . he couldn't see one now. Or hear it. Or even smell the remains of its smoke. The egg couldn't possible be alone. . . Could it?

(It's fine! I get the feeling. I'm like that with Doctor Who lately. And you? May I ask which is the show you're watching? If it's alright with you. Made me curious)

Mia was clearly taken aback by Tome's reaction but far from putting the egg back on the ground she held it to her chest, holding it firmly yet not tightly "What's wrong with this?" She asked, brows furrowed. "I found it on the bushes, it is alone" Didn't even know what was that, but she couldn't just leave it. What if it was indeed an egg? The poor guy would die without its parents, and she didn't see either of them nearby. They had to be huge considering how big was the egg, hence she doubted she had missed them.

((Oh, no, it's cool. It's Teen Wolf. Someone at worked laughed a little when I told her, but it's actually really good :3 I just can't stop watching it lol))

Tome growled quietly under his breath and just went to the nearest tall tree, climbing as high as he could to scan the skies. When he was satisfied nothing was there, he came back down and stood staring at the egg in her arms, eyes a little wide. "It . . . It's alone. . ." He said slowly, faintly. "It's actually alone." He shook his head. "We would've been dead by now if it wasn't." That meant its parents had either been chased off or slain, and they had stashed it here hoping to come back when it was safe.

(Hmm have never heard of it. Is it long? :3)

By the way he talked out it Mia could pretty much be sure by now that she was not holding a big strange rock on her hands. It was strange, but suddenly the egg - the yet to be hatched life on her arms - felt so warm. Caressing it with care, Mia looked up at Tome "What is it?" She asked him. Something dangerous perhaps by the looks of it. Not that she cared though, if the egg had been left alone they couldn't just leave it there to die.

((The show? The episodes are normal length, but it's got three seasons already if that's what you're asking))

Tome shook his head and stepped closer to her to inspect it. "Let me see it for a moment. I want to make sure it isn't damaged." Also, he didnt want it in her arms when he told her because apparently she had no idea what they were dealing with. When he had it, he held it carefully up to the light to take a look at the shadow inside, frowning a bit at its size, then just held it in his arms to keep it warm as he checked the egg for cracks. "It's an egg." He said, a little cautiously. ". . . a dragon egg."

(Yep that was it ^^)

"Dragon?" Well how about that? Frankly, she felt surprised. She had never seen a dragon. Heard of them? Sure she had, but just rumors, some stories. Then now wonder he had panicked so much. "Is it okay?"

Tome shrugged slightly. "It seems healthy enough." He paused, then picked it up a bit and pressed his ear gently to the shell, listening to the faint pulse inside. "Sounds fine to me." He cradled it in his arms again, looking about but not seeing any signs of human or dragon traffic. "They must have had to run. . . They must have had to leave it here until they returned." But they wouldn't. The shell was too cold. It had to have been here for too long.

"But... We can't leave it here" Mia scowled. What if they didn't return for him "Are we?" She asked in a low voice "Tome?" It made her sad though, she had wanted to... well maybe take it with them?

Tome glanced at her, making a slightly guilty face, and then looked down at the egg in his arms. "I . . ." He debated, looking around again, then sighed. "No, we're not leaving it here. . . It'll die if we leave it here."

"Really?" A little smile crept across her mouth and her stare lowered to the egg he was holding. Grabbing his arm lightly she glanced up at him "Then it'll coming with us" She was glad then that she had decided to stretch her legs a little.

Tome made a face at the way she grabbed him, slightly startled and switching the egg carefully to his other arm so it wouldn't topple and fall. "That would be the default solution, yes." He said, sighing softly. ". . . Come on, lets get going. Ill carry it for now so it doesn't get dropped, and we can maybe find some sort of pack we can pad and carry it in to keep it warm once we get to town."

((Sorry I've been gone. Really busy. Might not be on much tomorrow either and I gotta sleep now))

Mia pulled her hand back quickly as soon as she saw the change on his face "Oh, sorry" She commented and when he declared they should get going, she nodded "Ok, let's go then" And with that she walked back to were their horses were. Well it truly was better if Tome carried the egg, for Mia knew it was less likely for him to drop it than her.

(It's okay, no worries c:)

". . . Is fine." Tome said quietly, getting up onto his horse, the egg cradled carefully. "I just don't want to drop it. It's hard, so it's not too far from hatching, but falling will still crack it, and the fetus could still be born with defects, or not at all." He shook his head, urging the horse into a slower traveling speed than before. "We'll walk from here. We'll get in later than we'd planned, but we'll get there."

Mia couldn't hold back a small smile as she made her horse follow Tome's. He does know about these things She thought to herself before glancing down at the egg on his arms. At least it seems he'd know how to take care of it. My, he may be a really good father in the future Covering her mouth with her hand, a low muffled chuckle escaped her lips, what would he think if he knew she was thinking about that?

Tome rode in silence, thinking hard a out what they would need and how they could care for the egg and the baby when it hatched, and how soon it would hatch. He slowed a bit, though, when he heard Mia laughing, and looked back at her curiously. "What's so funny?" He frowned slightly when she wouldn't tell him, and almost even appeared guilty. "What? What did I do?" Who else was there to laugh at?

"Oh nothing" Mia was quick to reply. She didn't quite know if he'd like to hear what she was thinking coming from her. "Nothing bad" She added. Clearly he had heard her laugh, so there was no way in denying there had been a reason to it.

Tome didnt really believe it was nothing, but after another faint frown, he just shook his head and turned forward again. "If you say so. . ." He didnt believe her for one second, but it wasnt worth pressing the issue. It wasnt as if he was unused to being laughed at.

Mia huffed a bit when she realized that maybe he hadn't taken it the right way. As such, she urged her horse to walk a bit faster so that it could catch up with Tome's and she could be by him "Well, I was just thinking that you really do seem to know how to take care of the egg"

Tome glanced at her, a little surprised, and shrugged slightly. "In theory." He said, sighing. "I've heard about the care of eggs, and seen one or two, but I've never hatched one before. . . We might have to extend our trip, once we can go back home for supplies again. I've never been to the town, but I know where we can find a nursery that's better suited to caring for the hatchling than I am." He just hoped the dragon didn't imprint on either of them when it was born, or in the time between then and reaching the nursery. If that happened, it would refuse to go with anyone else.

When Tome mentioned the nursery thing she opened her mouth to protest, but shut it close when she realized that may be the best for the dragon. She wanted to keep it though, she really wanted to! All cheerfulness was gone in an instant and with a silent sigh she lowered her gaze to the reins "I see" She commented softly.

Tome looked at Mia, examining her expression, and gave a careful sigh of his own. "We don't know if it will hatch healthy or not, after being left alone." He said, shaking his head. "You can't get attached to it. . . At least, not before it hatches and we know for sure what it needs." He tried not to crush her hopes entirely, but realistically they needed to do what was best for the egg and not what they wanted.

Mia glanced at him from the corner of her eye and, straightening her back while raising her chin a bit, she nodded "I know, I understand" She was aware of it. She knew Tome was right. She could still hope though, right?
