Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Fawn's expression went sad and disappointed, but she answered the question dutifully. She'd always been a good little girl. "I'm okay. The air is clearer here, and I feel better." She held her legs up just a bit and wiggled her toes, as if to prove it. "I even get to walk more often than before." She managed to smile a little. "Tome learned some new spells while we were away, so he can help me more." She shifted, though, at that, and gave Mia a hopeful, though saddened look. "I thought . . . I thought your job was going to be helping me, too. . ."

Mia saw little Elliot in Fawn's eyes and had to try her best to keep her smile this time. Truth was, she somehow wanted to stay there as well. She somehow wanted to feel useful and 'welcomed' to a place which she could call home. But she couldn't. And she couldn't neither get Fawn's or hers hopes up. She didn't really think Tome would allow her back and she was too ashamed to ask him that. Even more when he had saved her and helped her despite her betrayal "But you're doing perfectly, surely you'll keep getting better even if I'm not here. Look how much have you improved since the last time I saw you" She said a bit encouragingly "And I'm sure you'll be a bunch better when we see each other again" She could allow for that much, couldn't she? To have her own hopes of seeing her again after she healed and left that house again.

Tome walked back in with three glasses of lemonade balanced in his hands, setting them down and handing one to Mia, then to Fawn, and sat on the floor next to them with his own. Fawn gave him a look full of intent that he didn't quite like, and set her cup aside on the table, sliding down to him and bracing her hands on his shoulders for support before she could take a seat in his lap. He just moved his cup aside and let her, an arm automatically wrapping around her back to support her once she was settled.

"Mia can stay, can't she?" She asked, her voice quiet but with that tiny little note of I-might-cry that he hated, thin hands curled into his shirt. "You'll hire her again so she won't need that other job, won't you?"

It made his chest ache just considering it. He loved his little sister, and he wanted her to have everything she wanted, anything that made her happy. Except, thinking of Mia staying again, of having the potential to betray him again, made him feel almost ill. ". . . If she wants to stay." He said, finally, reluctantly but trying not to show it, and Fawn gave Mia a tentative smile. It was what Fawn wanted, and he couldn't say no. He had kept his heart hard for a long time already and he could just keep doing it now to avoid further uncomfortable types of feelings.

Mia glanced at Tome and could tell he... Didn't quite like the idea, though he seemed to really try not to show it. She then glanced back at Fawn and had to force out a smile, though she also tried for it to not be so obvious "I think it'd be better for me to heal completely before we think about that" She said, unable to turn Fawn down, but not allowing herself to agree either. She just hoped she would feel satisfied enough with her answer. She knew how it felt not to be welcomed on one place and she never wanted to experience that ever again.

Fawn smiled a little, nodding to show she knew that was the only answer she was going to get right now, and just snuggled up to Tome's chest, tucking her head under his chin. "Okay. . . You'll feel better soon. Tome will take care of you." Tome nodded but didn't say anything, just taking a drink from his glass. It was true, but he would neither confirm nor deny the fact.

"I'm feeling better now, to be honest" She said with a small smile "It's nice to be taken care of" She admitted to herself out loud, though she kept her eyes on Fawn the entire time "Do you... Do you like reading, Fawn?" She asked, though this time she sounded just a bit shyly.

Fawn blinked, surprised, but smiled and nodded afterwards. "I have lots of books." She said, and didn't mention the fact that sometimes all she could do was read, and sometimes not even that. Sometimes Tome had to read to her instead. "Did you want to borrow more? Reading is fun."

((Sorry, I just went braindead there for a minute. Not sure why I cannot seem to make this longer -_- ))

"Yeah, it is" She agreed with a nod "Oh, no. I already have this one. Though if it is okay with you could you please tell me which is the book's title?" It was strangely large and Mia couldn't really get to understand it completely, thus it did't make much sense to her. She did wonder if her... 'problem' had grown worse over the years.

(No, no it's okay! I'm not doing longer replies either >< Bought a puppy yesterday and have to look after him)

((Oh my god Puppy!!! ^.^ I understand completely! Why are you even replying when you have a new puppy to play with? xD ))

Fawn paused again, surprised and wondering if Mia could read, then nodded and reached for the book. She took it from Mia when it was handed to her, propping it up on her knees. "This book is 'The Tale of Misis' Dragon.' I like this one." She gave a pause, tilting her head a bit, and looked at Tome. "Will you read it to us?" If Mia couldn't read, then Fawn could just get Tome to do it for them.

(Lol 'Cause he's practically a new born. So he still can't do much, we have to look after him all the time though)

"Oh, I've heard of that one" She said with a cheerful smile. Her mother had read it for her when she was little. Heck, even her dad had done so. She couldn't recall much of it though, only the name, she had liked it, for Mia was the kind of girl that used to love all that stuff.

((Ooooh, okay. I'd just be sitting there looking at him with this sort of a face on :3 And doing nothing else xD ))

Fawn crawled up onto the couch with Mia and settled in on her less hurt side, cuddled up to her. Tome sighed and set his drink aside, shifting to sit with his back against the couch and open the book. "If you'd like." He said, in response to his sister's request, and flipped to the front page. If they wanted him to read to them, he would. He didn't mind.

(That's exactly what my sister is doing xD )

Mia smiled a bit as Fawn snuggled up to her side. Her little body against hers felt rather comforting. Her gaze then shifted from her to her brother and then to the book he held on his hands. Even if she didn't get to make a meaning out of all the words and they were still confusing, her eyes skimmed through the pages absently as she heard Tome's voice reading them out loud.

((Sorry. I'm watching a friends cat and cleaning her house while she and her family are away for a couple weeks. I literally cleaned for three hours straight and that was just the living room, kitchen, and a bathroom. God, they're filthy...))

Tome's voice was just deep enough to be soothing as he read, a practiced rhythm to it, as he'd gotten into the habit of doing with Fawn when she was younger. He had usually read to her when she needed to be calmed to sleep, or distracted from some illness or another. He kept reading in that way until they were almost four chapters in, and when the fourth chapter finished he turned enough to look and see Fawn still awake but blinking sleepily at him. She was used to associating his reading with sleep. "Should I stop?"

(O_o That... Sure is a long time. Just being curious here but, how many are the members of her family? But the cat... <3 Aw I love cats! >//<)

Eventually Mia had fallen into a light sleep herself, her head falling lightly to the side as his voice became just a soothing background sound. She was, however, woken up at Tome's last words, which had slightly changed in tone with the ones he read from the book. Her eyes fluttered open and she let out a small yawn. It took her a few seconds to make out a meaning out of those words and when she did, her gaze shifted to Fawn's rather sleepy face before she gave a small nod. Perhaps it was better to take her to sleep already, though that was if she wanted to, of course. Mia had actually enjoyed his reading and if Fawn wanted to keep on listening him, she would even be more than delighted to listen.

((There's four. She's the mom and has a lot of joint problems so she can't clean the hard spaces, the dad doesnt really ever have time to clean, and her kids (who i am also friends with) apparently don't know how to do it properly. I will teach them if its the last thing I do T-T their house will never be this dirty again.

Yeah, it's a long time, but that''s not even half of it. Today I vacuumed the non-carpet flooring, and yesterday I did the carpet and used magic eraser on their doors and walls, something they apparently don't think about. Today I actually got on my hands and knees and scrubbed the floor with a really good spray soap - I will swear by Method soap from now until the day i die because of this - and paper towels, and most of it comes right off, so the kids are just gonna have to learn. I will make them. I have that authority lol Their house is really, really old so some of the flooring doesn't really ever look clean, but they can do so much better))

Fawn yawned a little, the sound quiet and sleepy, and snuggled in to Mia's side again, just looking at her brother expectantly. Tome smiled faintly and turned back around again, leaning back against the couch and turning the page to continue reading the story without another word on the matter. Dragons and adventures were some of Fawn's favorites, and this was one of her favorite books.

(Sounds like a hard job >< I, for instance, am not good at cleaning myself to be honest and kind of think that would have given up eventually :/ But that's because I'm kind of lazy myself. Good luck with that! *^*)

A small smile bloomed on Mia's face as Fawn snuggled next to her. She leaned back just a little herself before she closed her eyes again. It was as if, it was her own way of picturing the book on her mind, it was actually pretty nice. It saddened quite a bit that she would have to give up on all of that soon, but she tried to push all those thought aside as she just concentrated in Fawn's warmth and Tome's voice.

((lol thanks. I just walk in with the house to myself and a bunch of cleaning supplies and just -

That. I live in a really clean house 'cause my mom hates mess, so I just can't stand thinking that they don't. I'm like "DIE DIRT!!!" lol))

After another two chapters, Tome paused between flipping pages to the next and glanced at the girls, smiling faintly when he saw that Fawn was in a light doze and Mia seemed to be doing the same. Even if they wouldn't hear the story, he knew that if he stopped they would probably wake up, so he just kept going. If they wanted to rest together a while, he didn't mind reading to them to keep them there. It was his purpose to care for his sister, after all.

(Can't help it but imagine a pretty dirty house the one you're cleaning xD Like with the cockroaches and all that stuff shown on the media. My mom and my dad are both like that, they are major cleaning freaks! I guess it was kind of a curse for them that neither me or my other two sisters are fond of keeping things perfectly clean and tidy xP)

Mia somehow tried to remain focused on Tome's voice, but it seemed to somewhat be getting farther and farther. At one point, she felt as if she wasn't really able to open her eyes at all as she could feel her consciousness was simply slipping away. Eventually, without really noticing, she ended up falling asleep, a small smile settled on her face.

((Haha nice. No, not that bad. There's no bugs or anything. It's just like a normal person stopped cleaning their house for a year. Build up of dirt is gross :( The thing that bugs me is that the dad has this big ol' set of shelves with a bunch of old cameras on it and I'm like "I really really want to dust that. . . but I don't want to drop anything"))

After chapter ten, Tome finally closed the book and got up. He put away the hardly touched glasses of lemonade and dumped them down the sink, washing them out and setting them out to dry. When he went back to the others, he picked Fawn carefully up and set her on the other couch in the room, then covered both her and Mia with a thin blanket, hoping he wouldn't wake them. That done, he left them in peace and went away to finish the cleaning he'd started the day before.

(Still a year? O-O It's quite a bit. Well I guess they must be really fragile :/ My grandma had one of those, they're nice ^^)

(Hm... Had to go now :/ Help my mom with the kitchen. I'll answer later!)
Mia tugged on the blanket as she shifted a little to her side, not much though, as she still felt some numbness stopping her. It was just to comfy... In a way she didn't want to get well soon, not as long as that would mean for her to stop having an excuse to stay there. A small hope bloomed within her. Would it really be that impossible for her to return?

(Oh, forget it. My mom kicked me out of the kitchen :/ )

When Tome was done cleaning, both Fawn and Mia still slept, so he glanced at what to make for dinner. When he'd decided but thought it wasn't time to start cooking yet, he just walked into the sitting room and laid out on the floor, eyes on the ceiling and not thinking of much at all. It was nice, having the house peaceful like this.

((getting ready for work now so I may not reply))

"Was it you the one who chose this house?" Mia suddenly whispered, her eyes closed "It's really... peaceful" Ever since she was brought there, she had always thought it was a nice place to live at. Mainly, because she loved 'secluded' places like that "I'm sorry I couldn't turn Fawn down" She finally declared, lowering her voice, careful not to wake the little girl up "I... I do not mean to bother you. I'll leave as soon as I'm able to move" She added before slowly opening her eyes and glancing down at Tome.

Tome stayed silent and still while she spoke, forcing himself to stay relax. "I picked it." He said, when she'd stopped, shrugging slightly from where he lay. "There was too much noise and too many people in the royal city." He had needed out, and Fawn had needed a safe, quiet place to gain her health. ". . . Whatever she wants, I want." Fawn wanted Mia here, so Tome wasn't going to say no. He couldn't. If it made Fawn happy and kept her energetic, he would do anything, even if it hurt him. He'd long since mastered hiding his hurts from her.

Mia remained silent for a moment. It felt as if... As if he never thought about himself "And you? Haven't you ever thought of what you want?" Her eyes were a bit questioning "I, for instance, would like to know what you want" She insisted. Hell it didn't even matter right now, he was not her 'boss' anymore, she could say and ask whatever she wanted, because right now, she was not the 'obedient slave' she had forced herself to be.

((Sorry. Was in the process of creating new roleplay/character and it took a while -_- ))

Tome looked at her, for a moment, if only because he didn't think he'd ever heard that phrase directed at him before. No one truly cared to hear of his desires, unless there was something to be used against him. Something to name him as even more the monster. For a few seconds, there was something soft and vulnerable in his eyes - he turned to look up at the ceiling again, and it was gone.

"I want my sister to heal and be strong." He said, quietly so as not to wake her. "I have no wants beyond that." There was nothing else for him to want. He hadn't a true family, nor a home beyond this one, and no friends to speak of. He didn't need to see anyone else or do anything else. He was in a home that was his, where he wouldn't be struck down with words and beaten with fists and treated like he was less than the ground he walked on, and the only person he had to love in the world was with him. What else was there to want?
