I like to think the markings glow when it's using its energy based magic. So you get a flashy, beautiful, awe inspiring warning that you're about to be smacked with the breath equivalent of Kamehameha

I think that sounds good! Not as glowy as per say a light dragon which is like a walking bioluminescence biome, but still enough to be like 'oh i'm in danger now'

I picture a light dragon glowing like a flashlight, whereas this is kinda like a myriad of various colors and hues, pulsating along the markings so you can gaze in awe and realize your world is about to get rocked. lmfao
