"The first cases of the flu season of 2016 have been reported. Remember everyone to get over to your local clinic and get you and your children protected for the upcoming winter months."

The first cases of flu were the usual ones reported every year before: fever for 3-7 days, nausea for 2-5, aches, pains, fatigue, coughing that can last up to 4 weeks after first infection.

"We have news of he first fatal flue case of the 2016 flue season. A 67 year old retired teacher from Newton, Pennsylvania."

The first to pass from the virus were the immune compromised: small children, the sick, and the elderly. However, more shocking deaths began to appear as the figures doubled from the previous year.

"Fatal cases of the H1N3 virus has increased by 250% in the last month from last years numbers. It is important to know what steps to take to prevent outbreaks in your family. Stay tuned for a special, instructional announcement from a retired CDC virologist at 6."

A new symptom appeared in the next month, those who fell ill and did not perish went into a coma state.

"Is this a new virus?" the reports asked, "A new form of influenza which is putting those it infects into a coma? And what is the CDC and FEMA gearing up for? More on that tonight on the evening news."

From there, everything seemed to happen at once. The reports of wild behavior linked to the virus began in northern Africa and then in a matter of weeks, it was here on the mainland U.S. People questioned if it was even an influenza virus at all.

The U.S. military launched into action and set up camps in nearly every city in infected areas. Quarantine zones erupted as a desperate attempt to choke the outbreak and gain control. Flyers were posted everywhere, in every business, on every street corner giving professional instruction to the people:

1. Carry anti-bacterial wash on hand and use frequently

2. Wear masks when going into populated areas

3. Use plastic to block windows and vents in your home.

4. Use the plastic to create a sanitation chamber in the entryway of your home.

5. Report symptoms to the CDC.

Soon the flyers changed from the mindset of prevention to infection: Do not attempt to contact any infected or exposed individuals. If yourself or someone you know has contact with an infected individual or shows symptoms:

1. Most important to make sure they or yourself remain calm.

2. Express the importance of quarantine to everyone's safety.

3. Quarantine infected individual and do not make contact with any uninfected individuals

4. Call the Emergency Disease Relief Outreach hotline and await further instructions.

Then, to survival as the final instructions were released before the Silence:

1. Stock up on non-perishable foods and bottled water.

2. Seek shelter in a windowless room and barricade all entrances/exits

3. tape plastic over all vents or potential air ways.

4. Listen to the FEMA hotline for further instruction from evacuation centers near you.

5. Arm yourself.

6. Be ready to leave to a safe center if instructed.

Setting:

New England, late October, early November.

? Death ?

These people died off near the beginning of the outbreak since once infected, they pass away from symptoms. 18% of world's population.

? Affected ?

These people are not immune to the airborne strain or the fluid transferred strain. When they become infected (through a bite or other means), they show symptoms and ultimately turn. 59% of world's population.

? Resistant ?

People who are resistant to he virus are immune to the airborne strain. However, enough exposure to infected fluid, and they will turn. 12% of world's population.

? Carriers ?

They appear immune to both strains. Despite high amounts of exposure, they will never display symptoms or turn. However, they can spread the virus to others who are not immune. The virus stays in their body after exposure for an extended period of time. 9% of world's population.

? Immune ?

Immunes hold a particular gene that keeps them from becoming infected by the virus. The virus cannot enter their body due to the formation of their receiving cells. These people are also, like their ancestors before them, immune to the Black Plague. 2% of world's population.

REMEMBER!

? The infected are still living. They are not the undead type zombie, they are infected. They can move fairly quickly, however their movements are not direct or coordinated. They can be killed like a normal human can be.

? No one really knows about carriers vs. immunes vs. resistants. The only way a character in the RP should know this would be if they work in the CDC and were on the research team researching the virus as it spread. They might know something about it.

? The infected don't try to eat the uninfected. They are enraged and simply attacked them, bite scratch, grab, kick, wing their arms and hit them, etc.

"We have to go back."

Aisling stopped running, her feet firmly planted in the autumn leaves decaying on the frail, yellow grass. Her heart beat rapidly as she stood there. She felt her heart pounding, pushing like a small, but strong hammer at the insides of her rib cage. Her heart pounded so loud, she could hear the dull beat in her ears and feel it in her throat.

Aidan came to a stop as well once he heard his sister cease. He leaned over, placing his hands on his knees and gasped at the harsh, nippy air surrounding them. Desperately trying to catch his breath, he looked from Aisling to Jordan as he realized Max's absence. A look of fear and panic fell across his face.

"He was right there." Aisling said to Jordan this time, her hazel eyes peering through his back with intensity, "I had his hand. He's gone! He was there when we got to the terminal. We can't leave him, he's still in there!" Aisling pointed at the airport behind her, her voice growing in volume and strength.

Jordan sighed, his shoulders fell as he turned around and looked, his eyes full of thought as he studied the situation, light blue eyes fixed on the terror from which they just escaped. Finally Jordan said,
"Did you see him go down? Anything?"

"No. He was just there and then-" Aisling cut off before spinning around to motion back at the airport wall, "I don't know... I don't know. I didn't think-" her voice cut off suddenly as she placed a hand to her mouth, slowly swallowing and breathing steadily with purpose in an attempt to keep her own heart rate down.

Jordan looked away from Aisling and to the ground in front of him before turning back to the twins,
"What do you propose we do? Just waltz in there and save him? You think he's actually still alive?"

"We won't know unless we try..." Aisling spoke firmly as she re-gripped her machete, ready to fight. She turned around and began running back toward the airport.

Once at the wall of the airport, Jordan turned to Aisling and spoke,
"Hey, you know I wouldn't leave anyone behind... not if I can help it." the south eastern draw extended his words, allowing the meaning to remain present long after the words had gone. Aisling smiled back at him, pushing her greasy brown bangs out of her dirt stained face. He finished, "But we need a better plan."

Boston? Why did she have to get holed up in Boston? The population was six hundred thousand times the population of her hometown of Norwood, New York. The odds at surviving in a mere village of, give or take, a thousand or so people, were much higher than that of making it out of Boston alive. Aviva, or Vee as her friends and clients would call her, was led to Massachusetts the weekend before the outbreaks (not the initial “flu” virus, but when things started to spiral out of hand) to her sister and newborn niece.

“Riots” they would call the bouts of violence at first until they realized it was more than just that - it was normal people driven mad, attacking other normal people without cause and the assaulted would soon turn violent themselves, turning against loved ones or anyone in close proximity. City to city this had happened until there was only a few left, she among the stragglers. Before it was too late, she knew she had to move.

Right before the
Silence, Aviva set out on bike and managed to move along route 93 undetected, leading her from the heart of Massachusetts to Salem, New Hampshire. The freeways were lined with abandoned cars; windshields shattered, doors ripped open, personal belongings strewn about. Everything was eerily quiet and unmistakably vacant. Even nature seemed to forsaken the present world. She eventually found a small suburban town on the outskirts of Salem and quickly sought shelter when gunshots rang out in the distance. It would be apparent that there had been life in the small town she stumbled across, whether it being a bad or a good thing was yet to be determined.

Securing a spot in the house she had invaded was enough of a task on its own as it wasn’t as vacant as it seemed. A woman at least one and a half times her size came at her, teeth gnawing, hands grabbing, fingernails searching for skin to tear into. Due to her fitness instructing days, Aviva could move and was quick on her feet, effortlessly dodging the woman’s attacks. Shouldering blows, however, was an entirely different story on its own. After much struggling and a few acquired bruises, Aviva was able to down the woman, driving the back of her head into the corner of a glass coffee table. It was a bit more than she intended but she was safe. She had won. To ensure her safety, she would tie the woman up before finding a place to settle for the evening, and every evening from then until now.

The blonde quietly dragged the empty armoire in front of the attic door to reinforce it. She had set up quite a little hideaway for herself, gathering what she could from the bottom and second floors of the now-empty house and some camping supplies from the basement. Luckily for her, this family seemed to be physically active, having sports equipment of all sorts stored in the attic and basement and Aviva was able to find a wooden bat, a hunting knife as well as a bow. The ammunition for the latter, however, was fake and so warranted it useless.

She kept the dusty blinds drawn most of the time, the attic window closed as tightly as possible. Any sound, she feared, would only draw the unwanted attention of both infected as well as survivors to her location. Obviously, she wouldn’t be able to survive on what little supplies she was fortunate to muster and would need to venture out, but she had enough for at least a week or so if she rationed correctly. That, she figured, would be enough to outlast those who were still uninfected in hopes that they would either contract the virus or vacate town, the mindless, vicious horrors following their trails.

Aviva would glance out once more before hanging a black towel over the window for the night, peering out into the cold winter evening. It would be another night spent alone clutching her bat and shivering, all the while giving her best attempts at finding restful sleep.

She sat down with a huff, crossing one ankle over the next, rolling the sleeves of an oversized, worn leather jacket over her elbows. Strained hazel eyes inspected fading yellow-green bruises before doing inventory of what food she had left: a few unmarked cans of fruit, two bags of kale chips, two mini cans of Coke, three bottles of water and a can of tuna. Aviva whimpered unwillingly, the terrifying realization of needing to set out sooner than calculated setting in.

(This is a lot lengthier than I will normally post, just wanted to relocate her from her hometown.
:) )

Hendrix grimaced at the sight of the interstate, congested with static vehicles and the not-so-static forms of the wandering crazies. A few of the creatures bumped into the cars, mindlessly searching for prey. William wondered how many more were in those vehicles, belted in and unable to escape. Regardless, he didn't plan on finding out. Lowering the binoculars with a sigh, he returned to the beat-up old Chevrolet 4x4 pickup that had gotten him this far. The truck had handled the backroads well, which was good. Chancing the main routes was suicide and moving on foot through the bush wasn't much better.

William had watched the reports of the spreading sickness with muted concern. After the Ebola scare and Swine Flu before that, he had found it difficult to get riled up over news of incoming pandemics anymore. When his boss at Rossi Engineering had sent him and his crew chief to downtown Atlanta for an extended construction project, he hadn't thought twice about it.

That's when the city exploded overnight. The virus -- whatever it was -- had reached midtown before spreading like wildfire. The panic it caused spread that much faster, though. Looting, civil unrest -- all of these caused more damage and took more lives than the sickness itself, at least at first. Hendrix and his crew chief were cut off, unable to leave the city and instead holed up in a small motel to try and wait out the chaos.

William received a call-up from his National Guard unit but was unable to report for duty; even his frantic calls to explain the situation never made it through. Hendrix had worried at first if the Soldiers in his company and under his command assumed him to be a deserter... It was only after the Silence came that he realized he needn't be so concerned -- the Company -- and the world -- had much larger problems on their hands.

Will had to watch as his coworker was brutally attacked, bitten and eviscerated by the creatures. Hendrix had gotten him to safety and patched up the man's wounds as well as he was able to. It was useless; the sickness took him and Will was forced to put him down like a rabid animal. After that, William understood that Atlanta was lost. He was able to gather meager supplies before slipping out of the city under the cover of a major Army offensive, making his way slowly but surely back to the suburbs and his home.

The house had long since been looted, but Hendrix gathered what he could before setting out to the north and his childhood home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The sickness wasn't quite so pervasive there. He was used to living off the land, but he couldn't remain in the wilderness forever. For that reason, he had been moving north, up the Eastern Seaboard for days now.

William fished the map out of the glove compartment, glancing at it for several moments to get his bearings before grunting as in affirmation of his current route. He folded the paper back up, putting it away and climbing into the driver's seat and firing up the Chevy.

If Cassandra missed anything from the "good old days" (aside from non-canned food, warm baths and humans that didn't try to eat your face) it was probably the freedom to scream, to just let it all out: punch the wall, and curse from the top of your lungs...because sadly nowadays that usually got you mauled to death. So now she had to content herself with just letting out a bitter "God fucking dammit" under her breath as she tightened her grip around the cold metal of the fire poker.

The thing is, she had literally talked herself out of it, she had felt the idea worm itself into her brain, and it screamed "BAD PLAN", and yet she had grabbed her backpack and all her stuff and she had set out towards the apartment. In retrospective she knew why the idea was so tempting: she had been watching the abandoned apartment for days, and for some reason it just seemed untouched, almost as if people had forgotten to loot it...or salvage it, or whatever (at this point it was hard to tell the difference).

When she finally walked inside the building she felt a sort of excitement, kinda like the zombie-apocalypse version of opening a present, she told herself. Except that the excitement sort of faded as she kept climbing the stairs, and then quickly vanished when she finally reached the door of 3A with three infected in tow.

Luckily for Cassandra C. Muñoz (or "Cece" as her friends liked to called her...if they weren't dead) everything she lacked in self-preservation, she kinda made up in speed. So she slammed the door shut, and barricaded it with a nearby chair before the infected could get in. And then she turned around to asses her situation...which was the moment when it became an undeniable fact that she was royally fucked. Cause the apartment was fucking empty.

Maybe empty wasn't exactly the right word, there WERE things, but as Cassandra frantically searched around she would realise there just weren't any of the GOOD things. No food, no water, weapons, or maybe even a ratty bandage, just the crippling realisation that she had risked everything for some shitty apartment.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, almost as if steeling herself for what would come next. From all her watching she knew there was a fire escape in the building, and she knew that that fire escape was now her official exit ticket...it wasn't ideal, but considering crazy zombie people were viciously scratching the door, it was pretty good.

She quickly grabbed her backpack, and gave the apartment a final (and quite bitter) once over before she headed toward the bedroom and opened the window. For a second she was actually thankful for the cold air that hit her face, but then she looked down and saw the stairs...and just how slippery they looked. Deciding that she would probably do better if her hands were free she placed her trusty fire poker in her backpack, hoping she wouldn't get to regret that choice later. "...please don't let me be the asshole that dies with a broken neck in the zombie apocalypse...por favor" She whispered to no one in particular before she griped the cold window frame and climbed out.

Aisling turned around and ran back toward the vent the three had just escaped from. She jumped at the vent, hoping to catch it with her fingers so that she might have a chance to pull herself up and into the vent. With all the strength left in her shaky, exhausted legs, she jumped at the vent only to slide slowly back down the rough brick wall, her worn sweater catching on every groove along the way.

"We can't get back in." Aidan spoke up, reaching out a hand to her. Tears began to swell in his eyes, "Stop." he grabbed her arm.

Aisling turned to her brother, yanking her arm away roughly as she stared into his eyes, like a mirror image of her own. Slowly she let her arm fall back by her side, never averting her gaze.
"Jordan," she spoke suddenly turning to him, "Give me a boost."

"One of us is still going to be stuck out here. We can't separate like that." Jordan replied slowly in his southern draw.

"I'll go alone." Aisling snapped.

"Aisling!" Aidan wiped his eyes as they continued to water, "He's gone. Did you see it in there? There were dozens of them. Dozens! I can't lose you, too. Please."

Jordan stared at Aisling, studying her face carefully, reading her and the situation. Finally, with a large sigh, Jordan walked over to the wall and interlocked his fingers,
"Let's go." he said using his head to motion toward the vent.

~~x~~

Once inside the vent, Aisling crawled through as carefully as possible, worried the vent may not hold her. For the third time in the last minute, Aidan's voice rang on the walky talky, "
Where are you now?"

Aisling stopped, pulling the walky talky off her hip, she pressed down the call button,
"Almost to the edge." Continuing to crawl, Aisling turned the last corner, the loud cries and growls of the horde growing in volume as she reached the edge of the vent. Aisling looked down at the infected, almost every inch of the floor was covered in infected, milling about, beating on one another, vomiting, rocking on the ground. They were suffering.

"Are you in?"

Aisling replied into the walky,
"Yeah,"

"Do you see him?"

Aisling searched frantically, her eyes darting from one side of the terminal to the other,
"Max?" she whispered. A few infected began to notice her crouched in the vent in the wall 7 feet above the ground. They began to gather around the desk under her against the wall, smacking at the wall, trying to grab her. The more that approached, the clearer her view became. Still unable to locate a body, Aisling placed her hands to the sides of her mouth, "Hey! Fuckers!" she banged her hand on the vent, the loud metal pounding echoing throughout the terminal, "Max! Maaaax!"

"What's going on? What happened?" Aidan asked frantically, having heard the pounding from the outside.

Finally the terminal was clearing as the majority of infected clawed and jumped at the vent. Nothing. Max was gone.

Aidan's voice rang through the vent,
"Aisling!"

The echoing call startled her as she snapped back to the present and crawled away from the horde. Her sank with every step, Max's voice rang through her head,
I rather not know.

Aisling replied, just as she had then,
"No..." she spoke softly as she crawled toward the light, "I want to see it."

Aidan and Jordan reached up to Aisling, helping her down and out of the vent. Once outside, they set up camp deciding to wait for Max. They group sat around the fire eating nearly the last of their food.

"How long are we going to wait here?" Aidan asked.

"What?" Aisling snapped viciously.

Aidan shook his head,
"What if he didn't make it?"

Aisling said nothing, continuing to eat her food.

"Nathan wandered the ruins of the city until he saw a camp near an airport he decided to investigate he was relieved to see other survivors after the outbreak he signaled them with a flare, running towards them he holstered his tomahawk to show he doesn't mean harm he shouted seeing as there was no horde in sight"Hey! Hey! Over here"He shouted getting closer to the camp trying to get their attention"

"Hey guys," Jordan interrupted looking through the scope on his 30 ot 6, "We got company..."

"Hey! Hey! Over here!"

Immediately, Aidan and Aisling jumped to their feet. Aidan stood by the fire, peering into the distance at the figure while Aisling grabbed her automatic shotgun. With shotgun in hand pointed at the ground, she spoke,
"I got this. Jordan, watch my back. If he pulls a gun-"

"Shoot." Jordan finished looking through his scope and put the man in his crosshairs.

"He is probably friendly. Look how he's approaching us. We don't have to shoot him." Aidan pleaded the stranger's case.

"We'll see." Jordan said softly.

Aisling slowly approached him, gun in hand, pointed at the man,
"Do you have any weapons?" She demanded in a powerful, but still hushed voice, not wanting to call any infected to come and complicate things.

Sadee had heard that up near New England there were government settlements, research facilities, places that were accepting refugees and trying to reach out to people who weren't... infected. She had heard their broadcasts, before the Silence. FEMA broadcasts.

Also before the silence came news reports about the relief effort, she remembered some of the cities that were mentioned to have bases: Syracuse, Boston, Providence, were these still there? Sadee had no way to tell, but had an itching feeling in the back of her mind, that they wetter gone... Just like everything else. Gone and overrun,
If they were still running, why haven't I heard anything in weeks? Still, she had to keep trying. She had lost everything. Her grandparents were dead, she had nowhere to go back to. The only family member that might still exist was her father, but the chances were slim. She had already come to peace with never seeing him again many years ago. Driving her rusted light blue 1978 f150 up the coast she felt relatively safe, until she reached a blockade.

At this point she was in the middle of the woods, up against the foothills of the Appalachians, and this blockade looked purposeful, military. Sadee stopped the truck and jumped out. Walking toward the blockade, she looked around in every direction, taking everything in and fully aware of her surroundings. Once she found no immediate danger, she focused her efforts on the blockade. It started abandoned,
"Hello?" She asked climbing up on the cement barriers. On the other side, she saw a few dead soldiers and other government offices on the ground, high powered military weapons lay near the bodies, shells and unused ammo littered the pavement. Sadee took off her Braves hat and placed it over her heart, "oh man..." She lowered her head, "Thank you for your service." She muttered before her moment of silence was over.

She finished climbing up over the 9 foot barrier before quickly rummaging through the camp, filling her Vietnam issued rucksack with as much as she could carry, grabbing an M-16. Her scavenging was interrupted by the sound of shoes hitting the ground. Opening her eyes, she saw over a dozen infected running at her full speed, sprinting clumsily. Fear struck Sadee as she took off away from the noise, back to the barricade. As she ran backwards, she began to load her new rifle. Finally loaded, she open fired, the power of the M-16 knocking her slightly off balance. The stumble allowing them to get closer,
"Shit, shit, shit." Sadee dropped the mag in her tumble before quickly snatching it back up and sprinting away, however, there was a straggling infected that had been in the tent by the steep hill on the west side of the high way. He tripped as he lunged at her, knocking Sadee over. Sadee screamed as she fought back, kicking and punching wildly. Finally, she knocked him off, shooting him in the neck from her back before rolling over onto get hands and knees and jumping to her feet. She lept onto the fence of the barricade, climbing as fast as possible. Unfortunately however, infected were grabbing at her feet, wrapping their pale, sickly hands around her ankles. She shrugged to kick them off as she used her upper body strength to keep pulling herself up, hoping to get away and over the fence back to get truck.

"Hands up!" Aisling ordered chambering her shotgun as she pulled back to bolt, "I will shoot."

"Stop!" Aidan ran up, "I don't think he wants to hurt us, Aisling." Aidan turned to the guy, walking up to hin with his right hand out to shake, wrapped in bandages, "We won't hurt you if you won't hurt us. I'm Aidan. Are you hungry?"

Aisling lowered her gun as Aidan got in front of her to block her shot and greet the stranger. She sighed, he was too kind, too trusting. It was going to get him killed and she wouldn't allow that. She couldn't lose him, too.

Exhaustion was setting in. Max stumbled over himself, his body shaking as he gasped for air. He could feel himself growing dizzy as his vision began to get thinner and thinner like a tunnel closing in on itself. He hadn't eaten in many hours, he was greatly dehydrated, and he had been running. When a huge horde came, he got separated from his group and decided to use this unfortunate turn as a chance to save his friends, leading a chunk away. Still, he hadn't lost them. He heard them just around the corner. Using the last bit of energy he had, he turned and sprinted down an alley way past an apartment building. He jumped onto the ladder of the apartment's fire escape, pulling himself up, his muscles screaming in sharp, cutting pains as he felt his fingers and toes beginning to tingle. Getting to the second floor fire escape, the infected came running around the corner, screeching and searching for him. In a final push, Max kicked at the ladder, hopping to knock it off its rusted hinges. Successfully knocking off one half, he lay on his back on the cast iron fire escape about 11 feet from the ground as infected jumped at the ladder in attempts to climb their way up to him, only to fall back down onto the alley street by the apartment building. Max placed a hand over his forehead as everything began to blur, slowly, unable to push any further, everything went dark. He lay passed out above the two dozen infected reaching for him.

@Mayhem

Aisling watched as Aidan and the unnamed stranger walked past her and back towards the fire. She shook her head before taking the rear behind them, watching Nathan closely. Aisling's level of trust was low. Near the beginning of the outbreak, before her and Aidan met up with Jordan and Max, they had a few very negative run ins with other survivors who were panicked and acting irrationally. Aisling figured as time went on, more and more survivors would lose their humanity and become a threat.

Aidan shrugged,
"My sister and I hid out in our attic with our dad until all the radio broadcasts stopped. Then things happened and we were forced to venture out. By the time we left, really the only people in the streets were the sick people. What happened with the food riots?" he sat down around the fire, "This is Jordan by the way."

Jordan simply rose his hand as his greeting, the corners of his mouth pinching up slightly. His hunting rifle rested across his lap.

Soul of the mind, the key to life's ether,

Soul of the lost, withdrawn from his vessel,

May strength be granted so the world might be mended...

So the world might be mended...

It was only under the dead silence of night that Goodrich was able to leave his hometown of Cairo, and no, not the Cairo in Egypt. Cairo, Illinois--where Stephen's survival story begins.

It all began when the first wave of infection came through the United States as a wave. He saw on the news the many faces of hypocritical reporters who covered the matter of sickness and quarantine. These figureheads, quite naturally, rambled over their skits and advised the general public to remain calm for many great diseases have blown through America. Ever since the first Native American fell victim to small pox, it was up to strong leaders to advise the public to work against their natural instinct and cover their fear with a diabolical ultimatum focused around mindless adhesion to the natural 'law'. If someone, especially one of status, told you what to do...Why work against it?

"If it were a real problem, the government will tell us."

To any normal civilian, the reporters were structured and unwavering; stoic bastions that the general public could rely upon for daily news on whether or not their shepherded lives were in danger. But they were just that. Stoic. Such a toxic word...

But to Goodrich's eyes, he could see deep into the soul. His occupation has dragged him through enough of the antiquity known as war, and in war the soul can find the truest, rawest of emotion. In that emotion, the passion of a body overtook by instinct, the soldier can address the presence of such things and spot the same overwhelming emotion in any living being, animal or otherwise. For a reporter, their occupation is hiding such passions, to offer unbiased news in the face of criticism or personal insight.

If the face won't tell the story.

The eyes will.

In the eyes of each reporter, he saw the rising fear; boiling and churning beneath the surface of each face and mind was the truth. No one dared to tell the entire truth, it was too morbid, and under the guise of 'civil service', these public workers covered the tracks of all evidence of outbreak.

Yet, Stephen, under his own instinct, his own raw passion that he had learned to embrace in his occupation, he prepared early. And no better off was anyone.

Stephen had emerged from his homemade house bunker a full three weeks after the shutdown of the central government. The Army, in all of its resourcefulness, had managed to become independent, but as for the federal workers outside of such a noble profession, they had fled their posts to tend to their own families. Understandable, he presumes, but nonetheless treachery, as all but the bravest of store owners kept their shops open during the initial onslaught of the unprepared. Stephen had avoided that initial wave, just as he avoided the initial wave of infection, and now, with his old Army prototype suit, armed himself off the land. When he left his bunker at first, he looted the neighboring houses. He knew that the families that surrounded him were rich enough to afford travel, so at even the slightest hint of danger--any boy who cried wolf, if you may--escape was the definite option. He thanked their anxiety and helped himself to their canned food supplies and weapons.

A rifle, an old Ruger American, was found in the father's closet, hidden under a stock of dress shirts and slacks and better yet, next to a set of baseball gear. Countless cans of beans, spam, and corn were found in the pantry. To finish it all off, he found two hiking water bottles which he earnestly filled to the brim for his journey. He had everything he would need for the trip.

So with his new loot, he began a slow trek, modest in start but ambitious in notion. His eyes were set on New England, where he was sure to catch some poor sap stuck in the middle of this god damn mess and get a free ticket to Europe. He just hoped everything was still okay over there...

To his dismay, and against his better interest, it was not.

And now he is camped out over a highway, on the roof of a Marathon gas station, waiting patiently for the man he spotted driving to wander into the rubble blockade he has created.

@Safton

( I am so sorry if this is not what you intended, I just took some liberty to assume you were traveling in the said Chevy and that driving in such a vehicle would draw a lot of attention. )

"Oh no..." Cassandra whispered as she saw the boy running down the alley and toward the fire escape "...don't you dare..." she hissed as she watched him climb up "...dont you fucking dare". Sadly, he did, and then to top it all off he fainted afterwards. Cassandra's mouth gaped open in indignation, almost as if the fainting in the stairs was a personal affront to her...and it kinda was considering the fact that it would probably get them both killed.

Cassandra gripped the handrail tightly, quickly deciding she had two options. Option A: she grabbed that sad asshole and pushed him off the fire escape, hoping his body and stupidity proved a good enough distraction so she could jump and get away. And as the hissing and screaming from the infected got louder, Cassandra concluded she actually liked Option A...because Option B wasn't worth it and it would probably only bring her fucking trouble.

Forgetting about the wet stairs, and the fact that a broken neck was still a possibility Cassandra jumped down till she reached the unconscious boy. "...it's you or me buddy...and sadly for you I've ran out of fucks to give today" She hissed as she looked down at him, and violently grabbed him by the collar hoisting him up. She planted her feet firmly and got ready to push. But then, against all odds...Cassandra Muñoz actually chickened out.

She stood there frozen, dumbly wondering what exactly was holding her back. Maybe it was the sickening sound the fabric did when she pulled him by the collar, the exact same sound her roommate's shirt had done when an infected woman had pulled her and dragged her away...or maybe it was the fact that boy's cheeks looked gaunt, almost as if he hadn't eaten in a while. He just looked utterly pathetic, Cassandra decided.

"...Plan B it is" She whispered bitterly before she let go of his collar and grabbed him by the arms and started pulling him away from the ladder.

Raven looked around a abandon building and looked for supplys, "oh man I am on my own I need to find some supply, "I have no body at this time." Raven braceated the door and all the walls to help keep her save she than talked to herself, "I hope I make it out of here"

William had settled into the Chevy and set his sights on the nearby gas station, intent on checking it for supplies when he heard it: several rifle reports, clearly discernible even over the idling engine. His mind identified the noise readily, for it was one he'd heard many times. It was the sound of a 5.56mm semiautomatic, probably an AR-15 variant if he had to guess. He was almost certain the sound had come from further down the backroad he'd been following, around a blind bend.

He gunned the engine -- the gas station now forgotten -- and sent the pickup barreling down the roughly-paved road and around the bend. Coming out of the curve, Hendrix brought the truck to a quick stop and took in the chaotic scene in front of him. A military barricade, clearly overrun. The Infected were here, hissing and sprinting toward the hastily-erected chain link fence in a small mob. It didn't take long to see why. His heart skipped a beat as he saw a young woman on the opposite side of the fence, arms wrapped desperately around the top, as the crazies grasped and clawed at her feet in an attempt to pull her back down to the ground.

Hendrix reacted on instinct, shoving the truck into park and kicking the door open to dash toward the fence. In hindsight, it was probably the fastest he'd moved in years. Approaching the fence, Will drew the Taurus Judge from the leather holster at his hip and came to stop less than two feet from the fence and the creature on the other side, raising the bulky revolver all in one motion.

"Look away!" he shouted, his voice muffled by the mask around his nose and mouth. Less than a second later, he pulled the trigger. The Judge bucked in his hands, roaring. Buckshot tore through the chain link and into the Infected's cranium, sending blood and bits of brain and bone spraying from the rear of its head in a geyser. Will immediately transitioned his aim to the other ghoul, a deceptively frail-looking woman that gnashed her teeth like an animal as she tugged on the girl's ankle. Hendrix fired again, sending her sprawling into the dirt as well.

Shoving the pistol back into its holster, he spared a quick glance at the rapidly approaching mob. He'd bought them some time, but not much. Turning back to the girl, he held his arms up to her. "Jump!"

She blinked rapidly, trying to adjust to the bright light and the dusty air. Holiday looked aroun her, taking in what seemed to be the remaining bits of the eastern United States. What was once Boston, now looked like a scene from a horror movie. Hell, she was living in a horror movie. Bolting from the cover she had found, Holiday went to look for others. The small bag she carried was stocked full with granola bars, water sanitizers, general first aid supplies and a juice box; because sometimes you just need to be cheered up.

Her pace quickened down a side ally as she ducked out from the general view. Holding her body against walls, she took every step with caution. The last thing she felt like doing was running from an Infected. All alone, she could barley fight one to keep safe. Even when her sister was still living, she had no chance of saving anyone. Her aim was shit, and her physical stenght was questionable. Slowly, Holiday slid her hand to her side, gripping her gun tight. The next few block or so would be dangerous as there was no surroundings to hide behind.

Holiday sprinted towards her desination, when a loud band scared her. The assumable gun shot made Holiday drop to the ground in sheer panic. What looked like ten feet away, was a dead Infected. Scattered around her was shattered chain link, and broken bone fragments. Turning her head to the right, she saw more Infected coming her way. And to the left, was a male protecting other sourviors. Holiday's hands struggled to push her off the ground as the mob of undead grew near.

Everything was dark, and growing colder. Max's thin leather jacket wasn't cutting it in the north eastern autumn. Even in unconsciousness, his body was chilled. He shivered in his mind in the dark silence before a familiar cry for help ran through his head.

"Help me! Help me, man! Help me!"

Max was suddenly sitting in his on campus apartment, reliving the horror of the first days the outbreak reached Max at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. His roommate had just stormed in holding his shoulder and squeezing his eyes closed in pain,

"This fucking stings!"

Max, who was high at the time, put down the bong and jumped to his feet walking over to his best friend holding out a hand of concern,
"Dude what happened?"

His roommate moved his hand, blood dripping onto the linoleum floor,
"That fucking happened man."

"Oh shit." Max grabbed a paper towel, "Press this to it." Immediately he went to his room and came back with his first aid kid, "Sit here, man." Max ordered and his friend sat, "Alright let me see it. What happened?"

"You know that chick from Zach's and Brian's place?"

"Yeah. I told you man to stop chasing those girls. Party girls are nothing but trouble" Max said, the blood still pouring from the wound making it difficult for Max to see it well.

"Thanks. That doesn't help me now." his friend groaned, "Anyway, I went back to her place and she said she wasn't feeling well so we just fooled around a little and fell asleep watching a movie. I woke up and she was asleep. I started to get ready to leave for class. Decided to give her a hug or something and she woke up and fucking bit me! She straight attacked me! Chased me outta the house."

"Fuck" Max said looking terrified, "Was she on something?"

"Maybe, I don't know what she took."

Max shook his head as he finally got a better look at the wound,
"Get in the car. If it's a bite mark, regardless of where it came from or how bad it looks, you go to the hospital. Period. Second, it's deep. You'll probably need stitches."

"Come on, man. I got an exam today. I studied on Saturday and I know I am gonna ace it. I am graduating this year, mark my words." As his friend complained, Max worked on a tourniquet to keep him from losing too much blood.

"Yeah, yeah. Get your ass in the car let's go. Keep pressure on it."

"Can you even drive right now?" his friend asked.

"Only one way to find out." Max grabbed the keys and opened the door, nodding his friend out.

~~~
"Jjjjjj..." Max muttered as he was drug. His closed eyes twitching slightly. He moved his head to the side, "Jon..."
