@The One Called X[/URL], if I could hug you I would. That PoV makes me so very happy.
Patrick: For once we agree on something, Saph. *smacks Rudy upside the head for being an ass*
I would pay to see a Rudy vs Patty mouth off.

Rudy: *bites*

Chastity: erm, if you could not kill each other that'd be nice... *torn between disapproving of violence and being touched that Sapphire and Patrick care. Settles for making besotted faces at Patrick.*

Rudy: *is unknowingly hurt because they don't think he cares. But toughs it out like a man.*

You know... upon further inspection... I think Rudy just might be as nuts as Aria and the gang.

So why are tough characters so popular? Like... why are they written so often?

(is not a personal fan of tough characters... but can sometimes understand their importance in the grand scheme of things)

may just be bitter because I can't write tough characters (:<)

I think they're pretty fun to write. I've got myself a boy I've been keeping in reserve, and he's nice and tough and fragile and complicated. It's also a bit easier to write them- they have a really obvious, strong character, so it's easier to keep them in character. With Chastity I'm always having to try and keep her subtle, and I'm still not total.y sure that I've been keeping her satisfactorily consistent.

Just my two cents. :)

I haven't a clue. It is something I am learning after making Rudy.

Though I didn't make him to be liked. I made him with the explicit task in mind of controlling sob stories and craziness that came from the RPs char roster. I like playing with the fourth wall. It actually ended up working pretty well imo. It certainly took me directions o didn't think it would go.

Then again. It depends on your definition of tough. Rudy is one of those "normal humans with no skill or power" that DemonChild mentioned. xD

Emotionally he might seem tough, but the more I play him the more I see where all his weaknesses are.

I have the same trouble with Percy xD by it is mostly because my writing style makes him sound like he's being a smart ass. I like the whole 'matter o fact' description much better. It helped.

I have a ball with Rudy because he is always challenging me to say things in a creative manner and look at things from a different way. And I like sarcasm and dry humor.

Huh.

I've tried writing 'tough' as in uncaring, bully-ish kind of characters before and I never seem to be able to stick to the character. Or enjoy writing them... I prefer writing enthusiastic, bubbly characters...

Which makes writing Rye... interesting because I have to stop and think about it. I've written out whole responses before and have had to delete them because 'Rye wouldn't do that.'

Kudos to you guys for getting the tough characters right :) I think I'll just stick with my crazily happy characters xD and Rye :P

And I think the easiest way to play a bitter character, is finding a sound reason to be that way. The kind of reason you can relate to to help you maintain consistense. As well, a a good grasp of his or her feelings to help balance things so he or she isn't just seen as only an ass. A hidden, but well executed, soft side.

Oh, Chastity was practically created for fourth-wall trolling. I basically looked at everyone's cool powers and intriguing back stories and tough personalities and went "This place needs a confused kid who's in over her head and too nice and has a power that's more harmful than helpful!"

Really, though, I like powers that come with difficulties. Not just, being really tired or something after using them- stuff that makes the character question who they are and if they can handle it. I also like writing characters who are only extraordinary in a very ordinary, quiet kind of way.

Sapphire was molded to fit the role of leader and to fit her past. But I normally don't play tough characters. They're fun because they dominate and control and it could be good when running an RP, so your character can move others. It's not like everyone only likes tough chars, though.

For example, sapphire is driven by revenge and is pained by the loss of so many that she is bitter because she can't stand to lose anyone else.

Rudy has a bunch of kids to take care of and wants to see them be able to survive in the real world. They are practically family, but he doesn't want them to rely on him because he knows he will be kicked out of the orphanage soon. He is trying to make them independent.

I thought her powers are awesome. And I love how you balance her. I tried to do the same with Percy. The tired I quiltily admit I game him was just to limit how long he could use them. His struggle with the power revolves around their mental implications and how they change him.

If somebody else was playing Rudy, I would totally not like it xD so I apologize again, to all of you who have been, or may be, Rudy'ed.

As for excitable bubbly characters, I am normally not a big fan of them, especially when in dire situations. I find it hard to wrap my head around them. I am non good at playing them or cutesy types. I think Ricky is the closest I have successfully gotten.

I'm kinda looking forward to the Rudy-ing.

Honestly, with bubbly cutesy types you just have to not overdo it and not make it their whole personality. Everybody's sad sometimes, and if they aren't, the you gotta acknowledge that as a problem.

*coughs*

*may or may not specialize in bubbly cutesy characters*

Tough/angry characters are fun to write for me because their character development can be seen the most readily. Unfortunately they can stray into unrealistic, so it takes a delicate hand.

I don't know. xD

My favorite chars are super crazy bubbly. Harlow. Belle. Winnie. Hehehe. They're most like me. Hard to dampen their mood, bright outlook on everything, but they're usually naive and I am NOT naive.

At least I hope I'm not.

I know that feeling. I thought I knew stuff, when I was homeschooled. Then I went to college and found out that I knew NOTHING.

Homeschool FTW!

Bubbly is my personality, as well.

I'm also naive.

It's very, very troublesome.

Especially when I have airheaded moments of putting dish soap into dish washers. Who does that?

I really want to expand my character writing abilities so that I can write a convincibly tough character that doesn't seem like some flat, static, jerk of a character :P But that's like, the opposite of my personality. Or well... I mean I'm farm girl tough, but not... I can't think of how to phrase it.
