Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

Delayed or lost at sea is a perfectly convenient gambit to justify his being late or absent... it's a little more complicated that one of my NPCs I had plans for (the fetch) is delayed or lost with him. But yes... This new player also may shake things up -- but is potentially a not very likable faction for the Exiles. The lead character has a history of executing criminals without trial, and is part of the Muurdaain establishment, to what degree however remains to be seen.

Just as backstory from the new player's perspective of "Preacher's Yoke" (the place he committed a notorious massacre) was a slave market. To many of the people in your faction it was a place where refuge slaves fled the worst exploitation in the eternal empire to indenture themselves to go ANYWHERE else.

By name only -- by face he'll look like any other Muurdain Toadie. Spoiled rich kid playing armymen. xD

I'm confused as to why he can't see the three ships beached right in front of him. And the exiles who have made that beach their home.

Heads up, if this turns out to have been the continent the whole time, I totally called it.

No, I know I'm just confused as to how you can't even see the other ships. Considering how close the beach is to that island.

well, I just assumed it wasn't close enough see the beach , anyways I will be sending my ship to scout the surrounding seas so....you can start preparing beverages.

Leusis: There are a few reasons why he might not have noticed the beach-folk yet... they are:

1) Coming in during the morning, when there is fog over the shallows.

2) Despite it looking very close, the map is not actual size and like so many maps, there are distortions as to where everything is. It is quite possible to sail up to paradise Isle and indeed see the sandslope, but not the particulars of the beach.

3) The Exile ship is beached on the left hand side of the beach, and the elvish ship really just looks like a beach. A bad perception roll by the spotter in the crows nest (or even just his fixation on the strange island) might have permitted spotting of the beach, but not smaller particulars if one was not already looking for them. The most recent workplace of the exiles is in the depression, so that's where most of them are. couple that with the fact they have shelter on the beach, they may not be out and about.

4) Maybe he does see them, and is grabbing waterfront property.

But I'm glad you asked. If somebody is doing something that doesn't make sense to somebody else's narrative, the GM or the player in question should take steps going forward to make things clearer. But I would have let this one slide.

Processing! Will post when done.

HELLO I HAVE ARRIVED IN BRITAIN! So I can resume RPin' a little bit more, So.. you want to sell me the sloop? Without the sales? Sorry if I read it wrong I kinda skimmed through most of it but...

@General Deth Glitch @SpiralErrant @The Elusive Shadow

Glad you arrived safe. If anybody else is reading new posts coming out soon.

I too wonder what the exiles would do with a sail-less ship -- though I am sure there will be need for it, if not a demand for it, in the days to come -- it's quite a maneuverable craft! You guys might want to establish a central location that facilitates sales and transfers like this -- where your agents could trade resources or later goods without needing to specifically arrange it. You know... A Market? :D

@Leusis :

Went back to read description of island and I did say "Just off" the shallows beach -- so I can totally see your perspective on this. I made their arrival at night to account for this, considering they are not making landfall in the same place, and it can get REALLY dark on the beach in the shadow of the cliffs, especially on a moonlit night...

I mean... We can make oars also is one of my countrymen by any chance a man wi knowledge of ship building, e.g.can I set him to work making a viking ship. Also I think the marketplatz, would be a good marketplace.. Or we could use my depression. I mean I am going to send people off to find hunting grounds and build a wall across the slope up the beach

@General Deth Glitch --

None of your skilled workers are ship-wrights per se, but many have skills in wood. This coupled with the fact that a few of your criminals were avid river-pirates it is well within your faction's skill set to make a viking oar-boat out of it -- but the sloop is considerably heavier than a viking ship... the men that row in the galley will not be the happiest without strong incentive... especially if you planned to travel far without sail.

That's the gist of it. I can always put it in a character post but since the Tyren aren't really sailors their pitch is basically "Hey you've still got the sails from the big ship you took apart. Just put those on it." Then you can use it for fishing or something. Or take it apart for scrap.

...It's starting to look like the Corvus aren't going to be making it to the mainland. I don't know why, but I haven't heard from Icerex since two weeks ago, when he said he was going to be able to post shortly. He has since stopped dignifying my PMs with responses. I'm trying not to take it personally -- but I hope if other people decide to drop the game or go on hiatus they will be more considerate -- as I've stated emphatically we can make considerations for such things, and life/family/other interests can get in the way. If Icerex comes back that's terrific, but if it doesn't happen soon he's likely to get written out of the story.

As stated before, I'm relatively foreign to PbP forum culture... but if people running this hot/cold is a norm, that's disconcerting. :/

Game on, good luck, Have fun.

A new faction of high elves may be joining us (so get ready for that) as well as I might be contacting some initially interested peeps to play dwarves or some other race they might decide to play. I don't want things to get too crowded, but so far I'm not having trouble keeping up.

Great! Getting vaccinations for travel in Japan over the holiday! I am assuming activity will drop as people spend time with their families, but I'll keep checking and updating! Things have started slow but they are gonna ramp up!
