Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

Yeah, I had an idea to make a mill as well. I was thinking watermill but I like your idea better since the river is somewhat dangerous territory right now. With my Black Corn crops there's going to be plenty of reasons to have mills to turn the crops into grains and to extract the oils.
Yes, I had also initially thought of a water mill near the falls and with expansion that might be a possibility, but I agree at present time it's not safe to do so. I am thinking that the proximity to the ocean and the height should allow good wind flow.

Updating the status of guilds now that the Sylvan elves are gone. If this causes shifts in influence or bonuses, I'll try to let people know here -- the most up to date status of a guild will gererally be in the "Overview" Section...

@SpiralErrant :

I KNOW you formed a luxuries guild all by yourself, and I want to add it to the overview thread, as I should have when it first happened... can you or anybody else tell me which thread it's in and what the post # is? It's important to maintain your prestige and relative power, as well as the growth and development of the colony!!!!

It's been a needle in a HAYSTACK.

It may be possible that it's something I remember you planning, but waiting to execute, but I want it in the calculation if it is already (or presently) being launched...

Drove myself crazy looking for the luxury guild... Maybe spiral or somebody else will let me off the hook and help me find it.

For now, I've calculated the amount of loose wealth floating around in the economy (people with power in guilds or with good or wicked reason can pull this wealth into faction treasuries) I've also changed the standing of the grocer and healer's guilds... if there are any other guilds besides luxury out there, (it's been hard to track guild IDEAS vs. actual GUILDS lately) -- I'll modify that too.

Coming up soon should be final tally of who died and who's hospitalized from the 'Platz fight.

CHANGES IN GUILDS: TL:DR: +2 Attolian Influence, and control of grocer and Healer.

-1 Tyren Influence (loss of poppies and control of healer)

GUILD NEWS:

“EXTRA! EXTRA! ATTOLIANS SEIZE AUTHORITY IN GROCER AND HEALERS GUILDS, AS WOOD ELVES DEPART! SYLVAN FOOD CONTRIBUTION THREATENED WITH THEIR DEPARTURE! EXTRA!”

with the loss of the Wood Elves, threatens supplies of certain food commodities. Players may want to snap some of these up, if possible. If unchecked, diet in colony will revert to unhealthy for everyone but Aymarans. Aymarans will be just peachy eating only meat.

Highborn presently dominate the Shark Fishing Industry, eclipsing or employing the exiles that once held it. This de-facto puts them in the grocer’s guild, albeit weakly.

Present influence with Exiles transfers control of Nut and Capybara production to ATTOLIA. This means Attolians bring in more food types at present then the Tyren, giving greatest power in the guild to ATTOLIANS, (from Sylvan, previously) – (Attolian influence +1) – this change has been posted in the overview, so make sure you do not add this bonus twice. :D

POSSIBLE FUTURE IMPACT: While wealth and status have primarily (and strangely!) been the domain of the Tyren in the colony so far, the relative shiny frippery of the Highborn since they arrived and shifts of influence in the Guilds promises to make Attolia a cultural, in not financial influencer in the time to come. Currently, The Tyren remain on top in popular perception of power – but Attolia is changing that and asserting it’s position. The Establishment of the Language Square and Luxury guild could tip this shift in the balance considerably… but which way?

Detailed changed to the Grocer and Healer's Guild are in the Overview Thread. It would be wise to examine them. I have also posted in the overview thread a new aspect to the game based on the colony economy running for this season -- MARKET WEALTH. This is detailed in the Overview thread in case you care HOW the colony market is making it's money, and how players can leverage influence (or otherwise) get wealth OUT of the market and into faction coffers.

PRESENT WEALTH IN COLONY MARKET: (That is, owned by nobody in particular) SIX WEALTH.

Leaving wealth in the market can positively impact how prosperous the average citizen is passively, as it effects all folks access to goods and general spending power... it's the money just flying around in the colony. Some players might want to skim some of this cream, others may want to see how high they can get market wealth to go, so that it might effect overall health, happiness, development.

That's a nice little nest egg we've got going on in the market! Now we just need to secure our borders, set up a governing body and secure our food supplies for the winter.

@Beckoncall

Here's the summary for the luxury guild. It's 8th post down on page 12.

TYREN FORM LUXURY GUILD ALONE (Four commodities sufficient) – TYREN INFLUENCE is +3!! (bonus is +5 (indeed!) unless 2 additional factions join with at least one luxury commodity… and if additional factions do not or cannot join luxuries guild, market may (eventually) move North, from ‘Platz to Harun’Taran. – because this is in a flash-forward there is time to respond before Influence is applied accordingly --@SpiralErrant PLEASE make note of this and keep on top of this, and road progress, with me. – Beck)

Is anyone interested in combining resources and purchasing Earth blood and Ballista for the colony? The Earth's blood could be used for many purposes. Among them I was thinking of oil lamps. The Ballista could be useful in the Colony's defense.

Forget coastal defense, if we used that against the mud elf village it'd take out a fraction of their people in one go.

Or what about the redwood trees? If we find out destroying those will help to weaken the 'horned one' the ballista might be the perfect tool to kill it once and for all.

About your mine. You DO remember the entire hill is still a giant pile of rubble, right? And that the only reason it didn't crush Harun'Taran was because of that last-minute plant magic combined with the help of the fertility goddess? I wouldn't go digging into it so quickly.

You know we might be able to fix that problem if we can force a controlled collapse of the hill on the other side of it, away from Harun'Taran.

@Beckoncall

Would it be too much to presume that there would be a meeting of the faction leaders with the arrival of the Ratkin? I know Milkweed would call for one if possible so they could discuss matters directly concerning the future of the colony.

Two things of note:

The mine of vine is presumably magically stable at the moment,

And where the Attolians have assayed for minerals is in the southernmost hills north of shadow fields... And if anything horrible is wrong with that site, nobody knows yet.

Situation with the "Longdead" and tensions rising with imps/"Zebani" are still concerns at hand, but for now it's quiet enough.

@KamiKahzy : of course there should be a counsel meeting, I'm just hoping enough or even all players can participate.

If it doesn't flow well in normal sequence, we can form an "agenda" and myself (and others) can pm to make sure everyone at least casts a vote.

Ah, I see. Ok, glad to have that clarified. Though that does clash with my plans to use that area as the main dig site for my faction's new warren. Perhaps the Attolians and my faction should discuss that in PM?
