Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

As I understand it, Caelis is a leader, Lothar is an SK, and you have two other SKs...

If you left lothar with the Tyren -- you have Caelis and 1 SK. If you brought Lothar, you have Caelis and two SKs... the third SK (sundered king) is still quartered in the 'platz and is not on alert.

I was under the impression that Caelis brought infantry with him as well -- but if you didn't, then disregard any reference to infantry lagging behind. I'll edit it out with your approval. I will occassionally confuse a detail like this so letting me know is appreciated.

So I'll ask you... in your perception, where do YOU think your SK riders should be right now for continuities sake? And are your infantry staying in Tyren camp -- if you don't mind reminding me?

As I am aware, nobody in the Tyren camp know of the conflict that is going on since word hasn't reached them (after all the battle just started). So, they should no nowhere near the platz. Lothar and the men at the Tyren camp are staying there.

In terms of the Sundered King, I think I just got confused by the mention of "brother". So, the number of Sundered Kings is correct. 1 is with Caelis and the other is still somewhere in the platz.

In terms of Caelis having infantry with him, I think all of them are accounted for since he's supposed to have ran towards the sound of the sewer grate being ripped out and met with the guards who responded there. So, there shouldn't be any accompanying infantry behind him. They're all either fighting already or at the Tyren camp.

That said. In my mind, Caelis was supposed to be with the Attolian and Exile force, but I could work with what you thought of.

Only other question though. How does the evacuation of the platz to the beach going? Is there a certain amount of time that I should be looking for before even considering falling back?

Evacuations need time and momentum -- it is possible the battle could end before the evacuation even picks up speed. I'll throw some dice... but in fight time, seconds are LOOONG. moving lots of people is an ETERNITY in fight time.

Caelis and his rider have arrived on the outskirts, and you did want to link up with your unit... but I've given you choices with the intel at hand... you can observe from where you are, charge recklessly, or detour around to join your unit, or even anything else you might propose.

Thanks for clearing stuff up. If you want to post that you are joining your unit and potentially giving additional orders, you can.

Not a prob, man -- I'm presently combing through to make sure I don't leave any orders behind.

Old habits die hard, and you can't expect an entire population to turn on a dime in a fortnight. To a being that lives for centuries, it is an ugly truth to the universe that practically everyone else is dead right about the time you were thinking of having them over for tea...

Compound that with the fact that most elves that have had beloved non-elf friends are generally helpless but to watch them shrivel up like raisins, and more to the point be disappointed by them when they behave rashly as slaves to their tiny biological timetable... well, lets just say lets give the elves a tiny break on the mayflies if you can muster the understanding.

It's a derogatory term, but it's also a very real actuality in the psyche of many elves. You can really quite like the appearance of the flies in May... doesn't mean any will be around June...

EDIT: See also that a glade guard's primary job is to shoot foreigners found in the wood dead without asking questions... you might just reconsider that talk quite progressive...

That is exactly what I expected from them! And I will try to get a post out soon! No promises though as I have to go OUT TONIGHT!

YELLING!

TOTALLY OKAY! FOR A GAME LIKE THIS TO KEEP ON TRUCKING, ALLOWANCES FOR YELLING AND OTHER STUFF SHOULD BE MADE!!! <3

Looking forward to the resolution of the battle though -- (not that Spiral is a key player) as continuity is muddled with a pressing event before I can get into how Opium is being produced and how the barley is growing... xD

The next pressing thing after the battle for 'platz will likely be defining the identity of the colony (colonies?!) and establishing a kind of central authority/administration. Right now it looks like two distinct settlements are developing (wood/hill folk alliance & the rest in the 'platz) ... Even though in the abstract things are still quite meshed (what little commerce takes place is generally done in Tyren coinage, and wood elves have INFLUENCE in nearly every community aspect despite being virtually invisible outside their own domain.

Just want you guys to be thinking about this in the days to come. Hope I didn't lose anybody's interest during my stint away, but one of the best things about this game is that even though we've lost factions, there are always more on the wings to push things forward...

Game on, friends!

Nobody needs to rush, friend. It's just giving me more time to tie up loose ends or get ahead of the game...

Opium is a very pressing matter. Just ask the British. First the opium, then THE WORLD!

have a aymaran post and a general "sitrep" post almost done that includes among other things the Attolians. I've given enough time for people to address the witches in the parley, so it may just be that the fight will resume shortly after that...

Apologies for my absence. Honestly I was busy scheming world domination in a GoT RP, but also seeing if others in the battle were going to post. I'll post a response in a couple hours most likely, possibly a little longer if my brothers keep me held up.

Is it possible to post for other things? I've been wanting to get in on some other stuff but have been holding off until the battle ends. Thought it'd be weird to wander in with business proposals while that was going on.

I stopped waiting on wanting to post about the development of crops -- I'd say we're about to move forward soon, but if the battle hasn't resolved by Friday evening I'd say go forward and we'll rev-con if we need to.

Lot of chatter going on so I think I'll be able to process very soon under the ideal of everyone having a say... or most everyone. There has been much talk about the game in PM even if there hasn't been a mass of posting since the battle started.

Guess we did get a little quiet for a bit. I generally keep it to PM just to stop myself from clogging up the chat channel with faction specific questions :P

It's funny you mentioned gender in the RP (got the alert for the interest thread) since I was thinking when the RP first started what things would be like for Tyren women and if they'd ever had any female chiefs.

Well going by the general air of practicality that would dictate a lot of life on the road they would probably be a bit better and give some more life options than some other societies where the lady's job is to stay at home and make babies. Though they're still kind of expected to make babies.

Like a tyren father with nothing but daughters wouldn't find it odd to teach them his trade. They'd just view it as: Everyone needs a job and it's the job of parents to teach their kids about the world. Especially among the herdsmen where looking after the animals is seen as something that's very much kept in the family since those animals are kind of the backbone of their way of living and owning livestock is seen as very respectable and a potential way of having a lot of power. I mean the herdsmen may not be the fanciest or most lorded Minotaurs around but they very much hold the controlling share of stocks in the tyren faction.

There are certain jobs I'd say that are very gender dominated though. Like so far all the healers mentioned have been women for a reason. Women are seen as the brains and men the brawn. They're also the carers, much like in human culture, so tyren see them as being the more natural choice for being healers and plant growers (it also gives them a certain edge as animal midwives if you ask certain bulls too). They're also more welcome among the merchants, since they're weaker and more in need of using their words to be crafty (in the eyes of minotuars) so they can amke solid hagglers.

The warriors are a boys club. They're huge, macho, alpha dogs as they've already shown and some of the more mature males probably even think of them in a similar way to obnoxious frat boys. A woman trying to be a warrior would just be considered strange and she'd have a lot of barriers to break through. Same with the craft wagons though not to the same degree. The crafters are kind of a private bunch and are very picky about who they take as their apprentices. They're more likely to take their own kids or cousins, nephews ect and you need to be big and strong if you want to hammer out good metal or make a hardy wagon.

Moon-touched/shaman are basically open to all. If you're born with the gift then you are and if you show you can be trained then you are. Done and done but they're seen as a bit weird by everyone else whatever their gender.

A mist rolls in from the hills, blanketing the ground in a deathly haze. Birds and insects cease their cries, and even the wind seems to halt in its step. The setting sun dips just below the horizon, and a blazing light flashes into the sky just as the heavens turn purple and deep. As the stars wink into view a light sputters from within the thick miasma. The light is dim, yet grows steadily as the air about you hangs stagnant and dry. Soon, the light starts to take form, and a single lantern held on the end of a pole bobs in front of a formless apparition. The mist moves around this being, seeming to part in respect for the soul traversing this queer landscape. Eventually, the figure comes into view, a grey hooded robe obscuring its features. Its eyes twinkle in the moonlight, and slowly assess those gathered with a quiet acumen. Gently it reaches up, then throws back its hood to reveal the face of a rat, a coat of purest white and eyes like bloodied gems. It smiles at you all with a knowing grin, as if privy to some private jape. It bows its head once and speaks in a calm voice as soothing as a warm blanket.

"Good evening gentlefolk. May this night find you healthy and well."

Hello and greetings good players! It's been a long time coming, but @Beckoncall has finally given me permission to start posting in this story. You'll find some basic details about my faction in the Overview section, but I hope this intro post has given you all a good introduction to the tone of my rats. I foresee many great adventures between us all, and look forward to what fortune may bring.

May we be an hour in the grave before the Underlords know we're dead.
