Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

Hey, maybe everybody should calm down with posts for a bit. Give Beck a chance to put together a reaction before you pile more on top of what he was already working on.
fair enough, good point. I will wait till the other turns are processed.

Grateful -- I lost a little steam last night after one post of processing -- but I have a good idea of how a lot of stuff is going to go, I just need to get it out there. This game has been moving at a good pace, and I want to maintain that! It helps if I can process all actions for a faction before any more actions are posted for that faction -- relating to workers/projects that is -- players can post all they want about inter-faction or diplomatic stuff so plans and strategies get made. It's a process, people! We'll improve as we go!

Hitting the posts hard tonight. Hope I can get to the latest post or at least much closer.

SIDENOTE: I've been seeing chat about who gets to challenge/fight "walks in cull" ... Bear in mind he might need the efforts of more than one hero... Remember, as tough as you all are you were chosen to cross the barrier because you are not "OP" ... Some of the natives have had no such limitations put on them.

Yea, he is strong enough to walk among the midst of warring gods. I don't think any one of us is strong enough to fight him mano a mano.

Didn't get to post last night, but hashed out a lot of ideas and determined much of what happened. Expect update soon. Hoping tonight if not early weekend... but I am ITCHING to post! -- My god is keeping me very busy however.

When I said my god, I meant my job... but then, Cthulu is a really harsh boss, innit? xD I'm around if anyone has questions, will be posting.

Hey guys! Posted a whole bunch! I might have gotten some things posted out of turn order, but nothing violating continuity, I'm pretty sure. The Tyren and Wood elves got some attention before I went to bed, I asked the High elves to parse out some of their orders... and an interesting event or two is on the horizon for others as well, perhaps -- most notably with the Aymaran improvised entrance-demolition.... xD

Couple questions. Is the investigation into the statue still ongoing? And this may have been answered already but are prestige and influence the same thing or are different guilds giving different stuff?

Prestige and influence are the same... I tried to remove instances of prestige to remove confusion but if you find prestige anywhere send me a link!

If people notice things about the statue or hear/think things about it... It may open avenues of discovery... Otherwise you'd have to instigate such investigations and guide their focus.

Influence will come into use to break deadlicks/"tie" between factions who want same thing in some cases, and also as a currency for followers.

It will likely enter use in the summer.

Well Bruul and Ummush have been asked to investigate it directly so I assume they'd be thinking about it or listening to it.

If you need to quit you need to quit, deth! But let us know what's up when you have time.

@SpiralErrant : if it's a declared action, it gets processed! If you ever think I missed anything, of course remind me... Also, if you can give me ideas as to what they'd be looking for that could help tremendously.

It's your decision, pal... I just hope you can decide one way or the other!

We all have our ways. Mine is just more along the lines of "Fuck you I need inside."

@Heyitsjiwon I don't think you need to buy the poppies since they're being brought to the healer's guild then all the factions having joined it should have access to some already. Though you might want to check with Beck first.

Ahh, I interpreted that being brought to "the market" in the sense that until a resource is brought to a certain guild then it's not openly available for sale.

Yeah -- to keep things simple, guilds are PASSIVE -- meaning if you have access, you will spend on things you want passively, and eventually there will be an accounting... so lets say in this example the Tyren are bringing poppies to market... you make something very valuable out of poppies... after a while, a ship comes and wants your product -- which is valuable enough to sell for 3 wealth... a fraction of that, (lets say 1 wealth in this example though fractions might be added together behind the scenes) goes to Tyren because they gave the materials.

In another example just inside the colony, lets say several factions are making toys as part of a merchant's guild... and for some reason Tyren want them. The Tyren folk THEMSELVES have money (because Orm shared the silver) and slowly the market gains 1 wealth because all of them (or everyone) is buying toys and the tyren folk lose 1 wealth... you pull the wealth out of the market and gain 1 wealth. This is an interesting point because later on in the game (hopefully) there will be the additional intrigue of wealth moving around in the colony/economy -- the faction with the most influence (ie, best people or products going to a guild) have an advantage in pulling wealth out of those markets... so while all involvement of trade improves quality of life and may give bonuses... some people may get richer than others, or there may even be strife about it. xD

TL:DR -- Spiral is CORRECT -- if poppies are brought to market, you have access to them and can do things with them... in fact, everyone can.

Please bear with me as I settle into a new job -- I am chomping at the bit to post about the Attolian/Exile police response to an Aymaran smashing a hole in the 'Platz, as well as the START of somebody beginning a government quest! Once there is a loose agreement on colony gov't identity -- and the market is actually selling stuff besides food, it will kick off the start of trade and immigration...

(It is expected that by start to mid summer the scout ship will arrive -- which may have a little to buy and sell, but is really there to check the status of the colony and indeed determine that trading ships should come -- that's just around the corner!) I'll also post an updated map for summer.

Also note: DUNGEONS have begin to be discovered -- starting with the salt caves, and to a lesser extent the sewers themselves... because of this, Players will be able to adventure in such areas in real-time chat, or instead send characters or units which will be processed as "Beck states Encounter/Player responds to encounter/Encounter is processed, with potential decision points.) in real time a lot more can be explored... we'll just feel out these new aspects of the game as they unravel.

There is also very likely battle on the horizon with the masked ones, if not the gnolls.

Keep the faith! xD
