Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

@Prince Vaethorion Welcome to the RP, hope you stick around and enjoy it.

Also, I don't think Deth really cares about this rp anymore considering hes posting regularly on others but kind of just ignoring this one.

@General Deth Glitch, care to weigh in on that?

This is one phenomenon that is somewhat deflating about forum-based RPGs... that a great amount of care and investment can go into it, and people just seem to run out of steam. We've got a good game going, and I think it can be kept vital by adding new people if/as old ones fade... But I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt to put the kind of work I do for posts for certain folks that just flake out.

Deth, if you are for real -- come back and get involved... there is stuff CENTRAL to your faction going on, and you haven't posted in the better part of a week, while having activity elsewhere. I've given you an easy out, if you want it... there's no reason to say you're invested if you're really not.

Well, I'm slowing down process to allow for participation because Deth did say he was still in the game, we shall see.

Ahh I see. If that's the case, then I might make a post just for some development/literary/for the hell of it purposes. Perhaps, I'll call it the Adventures of Tomaz and Jav.

I have been a bad fellow RP member to you all. I do love this RP and I dont know why my head keeps pushing it aside. I love the RP and hope to continue RPing with you. However if you feel I am being too bad of a 'friend' to you then you may ask me to leave. I really dont want to and hope my last post gets me up to speed so I can remain there.

If you are happy here, I want you in the game... I think you're brilliant. Worst case scenario we will make accommodations for the level of activity you can manage. If you can deal with any of us occasionally being a pill about nudging you, we can deal with your idiosyncrasies as well! It's a DEEP and HEAVY RP... It could even be daunting to some... But you're tribe, brother-- in Dracos' name! <3

Hello everyone. I'm going to be joining you all as a race you'll probably find difficult to live with. Welcome the Aymarans to your world. A group of massive crocodile-men who value battle above just about everything.

@Beckoncall @Heyitsjiwon

Not to be picky but this might be good moment to clarify how much each side knows about the instigating incident with the gnolls. Since Lothar arrived well after things were pretty much over and seems to know more about it then the tyren who got there just a little too late :\

Ahh, he doesn't know much. But he's making inferences about what's being said/what is common knowledge.

Everyone has a basic understanding of Gnolls as raiders or territorial despots in the old world, some more familiar than others. Since the market and Inn got established, gossip has been moving around on its own, so that the Gnolls and mask folk are out there has become common knowledge. If you want to know what you or a particular person or entity knows about a subject that hasn't otherwise been specified, just ask and I'll process. Doing elf arrival soon then anything following that! <3

Editted my post to make it clear that a healer's guild is attempting to be established.

Edit: Also, is there a difference between prestige and influence?

So in my post I kind of just assumed since the Attolians have been a part of the Empire since the beginning that their people also took part in the wars that destroyed wood elf civilizations.

They most certainly did, directly or indirectly... More than anything they prospered by attaching themselves to the Muurdaan, but being one of their first annexed associates Attolian troops troughout history, to varying degrees, have had a hand in the conquest and pacification of other races. In it's mid-to-late history Attolia had less of a direct military role as a logistical organ of the Eternal Empire, and a custodian and developer of places the Muurdaan overwhelmed. So if the Muurdaan is the Evil robot army that burns your civilization, the Attolians are the merchants and policemen that show up later to keep things smooth in the new order.

Yea, I like to think of the Kingdom of Attolia as similar to the Socii for Rome, but they were treated so well that the equivalent of the Social War never happened.

In defense of Attolia, they didn't CHOOSE to be the next city-state over from Muurdain at the start of their global conquest. xD

What would their possible history with the Tyren be? Right now I've been working under the assumption that it's bad and bloody. Not making any claims on the Wolff family but there seems to be a lot of other noble houses with control over their lands and historically cultures like those Attolia is based off of were crazy about persecuting nomadic groups. I mean it's those cultures that invented the word gypsy as a slure against travellers.

That is true, but that didn't start until the 16th century (at least in france, which is what I based my faction off of a lot. Specifically France during the 100 years war era, which is why my soldiers have halberds since the French fielded a lot of voulges among its professional soldiers during that period and why I have the Sundered Kings who are the equivalent of the gendarme (minor nobles/knights that are heavily armored and mounted)). During the 15th century, gypsies were prosperous and had a golden age in France as people loved their exotic nature and strange culture (most notably the landed gentry who could afford to pay for palm readings. The nobles and aristocrats of France REALLY liked exotic and strange things during the time for some reason. Probably because they were bored or something). Then the church began its persecution of gypsies because of things like palm reading, which they considered heretical. That's when all the bad things began to happen in Europe in general for the gypsies. So, a single culture did not persecute gypsies (Pretty much all of Europe did). Rather, churches instigated persecution of gypsies that led to governments adopting such laws starting in the 16th century.

I think I may have played a bit too much EU4.

Actually, of all the hateful and untrusted nobles, Attolians are by Tyren standards among the "very least shitty" as a tyren might call them. Attolians actually CREATED one of the most popular trade-languages (the one most popular in the old world's equivalent of "Europe" and these trade languages are considered some of the best tools taken from the Humans for Tyren use... (even though Tyren had picographic trade-talk almost a millenium before) .. additionally, Attolians are a trade-centric culture that highly values manners, hospitality, and honor... The Tyren would remember Attolians as "safe bets" for trading wares, and while Tyren were looked upon with suspicion and hostility by most humans as they travelled, a couple of notable exceptions -- perhaps the only in the ancestor plates attributed to Muurdani -- would be dealings with Attolians. Bruul knows Attolians as one of the few folk who customarily give foreign mercenaries "homeward gratuity" -- that is, additional payments to get them home, or the trappings thereof.

Not nice people to the Tyren by any means or measure... but they generally are warm when it costs them nothing to be so, and are honest in their dealings... which to Tyren makes them somewhat distinct.

Earlier in the story Uumush mentioned a tale of a noble that aided passage of Tyren to ease commerce for his own lands, whose keeping of passes clear of snow helped Tyren return to the mountains more quickly in winter. One year his guards were scattered by a threat and the Tyren protected and cleared the passes for him that year -- this noble, remarkably enough -- was Attolian.

Nobody Wollf would likely even be distantly related to, but Attolian nonetheless.

...Make that what you will.

You can have the last name "Pastor" and still be a lying prick... Soldiers notoriously lack the custom and grace of their more collonaded merchant folk... then again, maybe Caelis just has yet to put his best foot forward...

NOTE! THE ATTOLIANS HAVE PROPOSED A HEALERS GUILD -- AT LEAST THREE FACTIONS NEED TO PARTICIPATE (More the better) For a Guild to actually form... guilds, if you remember -- PASSIVELY effect the entire colony -- so just like the grocer's guild makes sure everyone has homogenous stores (or access) to colony-wide foodstuffs, a Healers guild will passively enhance health or detect problems in populations passively as well.

Hope everyone gets the memo!
