Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

I don't think they have anything capable of making a noise loud enough to carry that far. Their version of an alarm is ringing cow bells and yelling for their mates. But Beckon might have something else up his sleeve.

Threw some dice, if somebody got lucky or things were super quiet, it might be possible to hear... but between the river, the ocean, and the wind -- the Attolians don't hear this one.

However, creating a means to raise an alarm that WOULD be seen or heard isn't a bad idea at all... :D

A great fire lit atop Sky Hill or Shearcliffs would likely serve this purpose nicely...

Come to think of it, The Gnolls "Howling to split the night" could have potentially been audible to the Attolians... but not with the detect rolls they had. Thanks for asking. Spiral is right -- if I can thinking or something (or if you can) it might be worth throwing dice over...

@Leusis:

Elven blood, of dubious lineage (Half-elf?) -- it's kinship to elves might be several generation removed from pureblood. You would also be able to tell that this particular creature could not be much older than 20 years... A Tyren would not be able to see the difference, but the smell might be distinct. @SpiralErrant

@Leusis :

What is more disturbing to wood elf eyes is that genuine elvish bones are used to adorn the creatures mask (particularly finger bones) and the bones of elves, gnollls, and humans (in the case of elves at least a few centuries old, "mature") -- the elvish bones as adornment is clearly an indicator of status in their culture, it would seem. This young'un was a leader or officer of some kind amoung the mask-folk.

I knew this was going to happen. The masked people are actually the super agressive people, the gnolls are probably just scared that we're gonna turn out to be like them, thus why they were watching the Tyren.....

And they keep talking about a horned one. Like maybe they have an evil Tyren chief. Have we come all this way to fight our mirrorverse selves!?

I was thinking about the situation while I was in work (holidays are over booo!) and piecing together the info we got and how Orm might react to it. It's no doubt going to get nasty in the near future but hopefully peace isn't totally out of reach. Against my better judgment I'm getting up my hopes for bringing the snake men on board. If the gnolls can still be allies we could get a full on beast nation going on xD

Speaking about getting out of hand... for the Attolians to the west are a horde of undead skeletons in the ruins, below are a race of god knows what living in the sewers, in the settlement itself is a possessed fountain with a god(?) living in it.

There's so much going on. This is starting to feel like XCOM.

Don't worry, Belanor is going to take full responsibility for the attack, gnoll peace with the humans and Tyren isn't out of reach. However, if the gnolls decide to attack Belanor while hes surrendering himself the elves are gonna mow them down with arrows. This is probably the ballsiest move I'm going to make with my leader for quite some time, because there is a pretty good chance they'll just charge him.

Yea... it seemed like there was an uneasy truce between the two. A cold war of sorts, but then this just triggered all out war.

The post train has no breaks! Though we may want to collab the upcoming scene for all the people that might be involved.

If what Belanor and Orm are doing doesn't make the gnolls at least hear them out I don't think diplomacy will be likely.

Agreed and given the general temperament of most Gnolls this is even a long shot. But both characters seem to think that they have to at least TRY so even if it fails at least they can say they gave it their all and go into a fight without regrets. At least that's somewhat how I think Orm would view it.

200 gnolls is nothing to sneeze at. Do we know how many of those masked people there are? Or did the elves only scout out the gnolls?

@Heyitsjiwon :

Don't think I didn't notice you didn't post an order for your patrol that is having a "Mexican Standoff" with a throng of skeletons. If I'm going to process the rest of your actions, you can't leave out the most time-sensitive events. ;D

OHHH is that within my grasp? Well then! I will go ahead and edit right now. I thought that there would be a second update or something and that this was just supposed to build suspense xD .

You have agency over any of your followers under normal situations, though if you leave them be I will eventually have them act as fate (rolls) or I think they best might. If there is every any ambiguity, ask... there are situations where this might not be the case (orders to outside third parties, those with their own motives that might not be known to you, etc.) But when a fight may or may not happen, I like to make that a turnover point for the player to decide to act. In some cases the enemies may have already engaged -- but this is not yet one of those times. :D
