Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

FYI: Elusive shadow will have little time to post for the next couple of days.

Also, I will be assembling and calculating outcomes for the grocer guild when I next update. Participants are exiles, Tyren, Attolian (personnel only so far but likely to change) and by met conditions (Tyren involvement) now the elves. This should secure food supply and healthy diet for the colony, and I'll announce any other bonuses after the fact. Great job completing your first "colony quest!"

Why is that? Because they were doing diplomacy? You can call them back, or @The Elusive Shadow could wrap that up at a point of opportunity. We can also hand-wave it as you getting minor Intel on paradise island, slight positive relations, and any other particulars can be established later. Btw, did I assign the Attolians a starting wealth value? If not, let me know and I'll throw some dice.

Nope, as of now, I've been broke. Anyways, yea... I'll figure something out maybe just call them back or something.

I'd offer to RP the meeting between your guys and mine at the camp but with Orm being away at the gnoll woods it might be better to wait until things get updated. Though there's pelnty for them to see going on around the camp and I think they'll pass the boulder field workers and Uumush along the way plus Bruul's about and I think he has a working grasp of the common tongue if you feel like doing some stuff with it.

Ahh, I just wanted to see 2 things: 1. How much of the hills the Tyren claims and 2. If they were interested in a deal where Attolia helps locate deposits in shear cliff for a share.

[QUOTE="General Deth Glitch]I am still gannin tae the meetin' aint i?

Yes, I believe you delegates yourself and 10 countrymen. That event, for better or worse, will be processed as soon as I get down to it!

2 wealth is in hard coin, 2 wealth is in barter-able ornaments and finery.

If anybody is less than thrilled at the pace things are going, I just want y'all to know I just have to process the last Attolian turn before we proceed to the cliff-hanger resolution of the seemingly rash first-contact with the Gnolls.

Stay tuned, and hope you're enjoying the game. :D

The pace? We've already bumped into rat people, dog people, masked people, underwater people and now snake people. With the scale of this RP, I'm bloody ecstatic about the pace right now.

Yeah, this is easily one of the best RPs I've been a part of, if not ever, then in a very long time. You're doing amazing work and if you weren't I wouldn't have told my brother about it and he wouldn't have thought it was amazing too.

Don't worry about the pace because its running very smooth compared to most things I've seen on this website or in general.

Agreed, this has easily been one of my best RPing experiences on the site and pace wise it's moving at a great speed where we've already gotten plenty done.

I'm so glad you're in the game, guys -- GMing is great fun, but it's never easier than when you know your players are eager to make the story with you! xD

Question, so there's no wealth in the guild, which is understandable. I assume that weath goes into the guild once we begin trading and exporting things back to the old world, but how do we exactly proceed to begin trade/resupply?

No trade ships will arrive until the colony has a market and is actually proclaiming it is selling commodities... Several luxury commodities have already been discovered. People IN the colonies (followers) may buy some of the commodities first (necessities) but if enough surplus exists it can be traded for wealth or perhaps other commodities or maybe even manpower.

If colonists or foreigners buy stuff in market, the wealth will move from the populace to the market. From the market is can be levied back into factions with interests in that market.

For example, if the Tyren have their feast, 1 wealth will move from Tyren populace to market. Exiles and Tyren can "tap" market for that wealth... Usually but not always in a way that helps the community (i.e., to build another building or industry)

If one faction constantly grabs that money before other factions can, it may cause positive or negative consequences.

I'm introducing these ideas gradually so nobody panics or glazes over.

As one might expect for a game with so much player freedom, it is not necessarily going exactly as I expected. As it stands, there has been lots of exploration but less cooperation and development than I expected, that said the colony hadn't been up and running THAT long.

I've been wondering the same thing @SpiralErrant

Also, my people are so far the only ones to find a medicinal plant. If it is dried properly and ground up it can be used as a painkiller or a clotting agent. Just wondering how heavily this could throw the market in my favor once I send merchants to join it.

Medicine is valuable. If lots of people need medicine, wealth and influence will flow that way, and if you're the only shop, that also means influence. It doesn't necessarily mean you're the only one who can heal though, there are doctors and even a cleric in town... Well... Sort of. If you think something is valuable, bring it to market. another thing to mention is there is lots of food at market, but not much is fruit and veggies... That also has a swing in influence/value. This stuff will come up not just as players make moves but also naturally/unexpectedly.

A good estimate of time is landfall happened approx. two months ago, give or take. Enough time for settling in and burning of a lot of the resources you arrived with. Though as I've said, if it seems abstract, it's because it's supposed to be... If we were marking a calendar It would be FAR more work, and potentially a lot less fun... Is anybody out there wishing they'd made four requests for food or water already? Who's mad their not already starving?

As a GM, I am a strong believer in "the rule of cool"... If you neglect stuff or act the fool, of course calamity will ensue... Otherwise, a good story trumps mechanics EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.

If we want to get hung up on the numbers, we can all play a game on steam. :D

Finally putting holidays behind, so expect updates. Just been moving around too much and only have phone for net access!
