Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

Yeah I think we're all in agreement about keeping the flow of time the way it's been going. Though I could imagine some interesting stuff coming from a big time skip once everyone's settled down in the future.

To put things in perspective, Spring is half over (though several factions have renewable food sources of one kind or another) - summer and fall may have their own challenges, and winter especially will have temperature and food concerns.

As said, I'm not throwing everything out at once.. But if a colony develops, ships will arrive to buy/sell, and immigrants and other folks may begin to arrive.

i was thinking the same thing, spiral... At the end of each season (or when the drama/dynamic is stable, more time may flow ... based on what players have made priorities, their holdings develop. This is already happening somewhat, for instance with exiles building some housing on their own (they can all live in the ship if necessary but who wants to walk up sand-slope that much?) or needs/wants posed by factions.

Depending on what people like/want, the whole SCALE of the game could change. I toyed with the idea that if the current map area was completely stabilized, the colony would become a nation in its own right, and become part of a MUCH larger map, with fighting/trade on a MUCH larger scale... Though some stuff would still be person to person.

Don't get ahead of yourselves. If you want an idea of how things develop long term, find "maslow's hierarchy of needs" on google images... I may eventually post one myself... It basically says people worry about safety, temperature and food first, but once basic needs are met more and more advanced needs (like family and fulfillment) become priority.

Right now, nobody is doing anything THAT MUCH more sophisticated than finding a place to crap out of the rain... But that will change. That's how you get from a grimy backwater that is proud it finally has a market to a city with a university, a magic-mill, and a stable for fantastical mounts. :P

(If you don't all resort to cannibalism the first winter, because... Well... Colonies sometimes do that.)

You have no idea how a "wood" elf handles winter... Typical mayfly trash-talk. xD

FYI, I made updates to my most recent post an hour after the fact -- if anybody saw it right when I initially posted it. I'll be moving on to te "diplomatic encounter with the Gnolls as soon as can...

Don't write anyone off until you see a subtraction sign... Units based on french cavalry will never be known for their caution or restraint, perhaps? :D

At least you know what a bucket of less than stellar dice may bring in a turn. ..

I'm banking for a natural crit... I think I would need a rather amazing roll to somehow not lose men.

You can do it!

I'm not going to hold your hand, but if there will often be things to give you an edge, if you look for them -- and that isn't even accounting for things I haven't thought of. Players are in possession of solutions to quandries they haven't even encountered yet! xD

@SpiralErrant

Quick question about the Tyren..... How big are they on average and how big is Orm, just so I know what size mountain of muscle I'm talking to in RP. Hight and weight if you don't mind, thanks.

There's a good picture of Orm posted somewhere in Overview or OOC, I think... they're pretty friggin' huge. However -- I caution people against getting too much into specifics... Suffice to say they are pretty monstrous. Shul, for example -- is short for a minotaur... 6'7" is the stated height. Which incidentally is one reason it's a HORRIBLE idea to bring them on a stealth mission.... xD

Personally I thought of that picture more for showing their proportions than their height. Since in it I don't think the humans even come up to the Minotaurs waist and if they were that big I don't think they'd have fit on the boat to begin with.

I'm not great at assigning height to things since it seems I always get it off so I'm open to brainstorming it. As a rough racial average how does 8 feet tall sound? Taller than a human could grow (Guinness book of records not withstanding) but not so tall they're impossible to house. Then add the bull levels of muscle.

Orm is stated as being about a head taller than most minotaurs too but he's not considered freakishly big by any means, just warrior big.

Thinking about it I think I just made him the same size as the picture or not far off lol

Yup. You did. It is fair to say the average minotaur is 8 feet tall, with Shul being a particularly short specimen at tall human height. Orm being 10 or so feet tall makes him pretty... ahem.... "beefy" -- but even larger specimens are not unheard of.

Shul being this drugged up runt has helped win him over and made that little backstory you gave of him and Weome freaking adorable!

You regrouped with the humans and elves across the bridge when the boom got lowered. That is why when the Mud-guy came out, Rahg was in range to kill him.
