What exactly would be the side effects be of the spider venom? I know we said overall pain and shortness of breath, but was there anything else? SilverFlight SilverFlight

I think you're reading a bit too much into it ^^, the army isn't dispatched in its entirety, those that are are surrounding the towns and villages believed to be most vulnerable to attack, they wouldn't have been near a little roadside tavern, which would be miles from anything. The country is absolutely huge, there wouldn't be enough men to cover 10% of it. The spiders also have a unique way of getting around but you'll find out more later. As of this point, there has been no mass death so I can clear away that assumption here. You should have Xaman ask some of these questions IC.

They use tunnels ? Would make sense. Or maybe they use their webs as parachutes.
 
Wondering if I am allowed to write for npcs or not. Xaman'Ek is likely not going to be at the meeting in time due to herb gathering.

Concept for future plans- I imagine that a large portion of the mercenaries are going to be furious because this attack was a preventable one. Simple scouts and a supply of fireworks could have massively reduced the casualties. The lack of information about the enemy given, followed by this event and the general lack of support from Xiong-Shi might cause a huge hit to morale and may make many want to head on home. They probably won't leave at the moment because of whatever treaty unifies the nations currently, but if things continue like this Xiong-Shi may be seen as failing to uphold their end of the agreement and this vanguard force may take a massive hit as foreign tribes pull out of the agreement. The most paranoid tribes may even see a lack of support in this early stage as an act of aggression- setting up the Xiong-Shi empire for an invasion.

Of course, there's going to be a whole lot of variety from person to person and tribe to tribe, and most of this would be behind the scenes as this isn't a diplomatic but a combat roleplay, but the thought came into my mind and i thought i'd share.
 
So pretty generic side effects, nothing too awful like a brown recluse bite... got it.

I hope the bit about the forest going quiet was okay. I'm assuming none of your characters are going around screaming their heads off after this fight resolves
