Fandom Beast Boy and Raven (Closed)

Rachel looked up from her phone, about to comfort Gar that nothing was going to happen to her, not that she could really promise that. Turns out she didn’t have to, because Gar was putting his game away with a look of resolve on his face, already making plans for what happens after.

He pulled her up on her feet and she smiled back at him. “There’s the Beast Boy I know,” she said. She moved over to the counter and tossed a bagel over to him. “Let me just get changed,” she said. She flew over to her room and grabbed her signature cloak and pulled off her jeans and sweater, leaving her preferred leotard. She used to always wear it underneath her regular clothes, it was a strange comfort to be going back to doing that.

“I’m ready,” she said, coming back and grabbing a bagel for herself. “Remember, you have to stay in beast form, and stay close to me.” With the wave of her hand she created a portal.

“Let’s get this over with.” She took his hand and led the way through the portal. On the other side was a few of the water and Titans Tower in the far distance. Turning around was what looked like a long abandoned tall building of about 5 floors.

Rachel closed her eyes for a moment., trying to get a lay of the land. “I don’t sense anyone inside.”

Garfield watched the bagel soar through the air and caught it with his teeth. Luckily for him it was a delicious cinnamon raisin flavor that he devoured before she could even return to peek at the breakfast. He also felt a bit bad for leaving his waffles on Rachel’s table so he ate the syrup soaked breakfast food before tossing the paper plate away.

When Rachel came out of her room he was reminded about his lack of a costume and immediately knew what to become. Certainly he would be able to become the creature easily. Garfield slipped Rachel’s hand inside of his own as they peered into the portal.

Once they were through, Garfield reluctantly let go of Rachel’s hand and became a green Mushu (that’s what I’m calling the smaller dragon. I’ll probably call the bigger one a Smaug lol.) and flew around his partner’s head. “What you can tell? Does that mean there could be robots or something in there?” Garfield asked, now floating behind Rachel, hiding with his hands on her shoulders.

It was clear that Garfield was comfortable enough with this form to move as he pleased and act out the moves he wanted. The only thing he hadn’t figured out was how to attack but there was no time like the present, if there were villains inside of course.

Rachel opened her eyes. “The Brotherhood and Lexcorp both have technology on their side. There could be AI inside. I can’t tell.”

She felt the flutter of the wind on her face from the little green dragon flying around her. “Not bad, ninja turtle,” she said with a grin. “You seem to be getting the hang of the new form.”

Focusing back on the mission, Rachel flew silently to the side of the building. Nothing could be seen through the window save for a bare square room. “Coast is clear. Let me know if you hear or smell anything,” Rachel said before creating a portal and phasing through the wall.

There was nothing in the room. No machinery, no sign of use at all. In fact, everything looked dusted over. Rachel frowned, having assumed they would have seen some sign of villainous deeds by now.

Garfield laughed a little and flew in front of Rachel. “I know right? It feels weird not having wings though…” He did a little corkscrew turn in front of her before touching his whiskers. “But at least I got this cool mustache!” That was a good trade for wings in his book as long as he could still fly and breathe fire.

He flew up behind Rachel while wondering to himself Can I breathe fire? I mean he was a dragon after all so surely he could. When the two went through the portal Garfield landed and walked around on his two little legs. “What the heck? This place looks older than Mother Mae Eye.” He said before attempting to blow fire on the cobwebs.

Surprisingly even the flames that left his body were green in color with reddish tips on the ends. Garfield covered his mouth and looked a bit worried. “I hope there was no spider over there…” he certainly wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight if he had killed another creature.

Green flames lit up the room, and Rachel took an instinctive step away from the little dragon. “I don’t think even a spider is living here,” Rachel said. “But do me a favor and watch where you’re aiming that thing. I’m not fire-proof.”

Satisfied that there was nothing in this room, she decided to move out into the hallway. Graffiti decorated the walls, some of the windows on the other side of the building were smashed out, and there was an odd musty smell in the air. Rachel scrunched her nose and crossed her arms.

“I don’t know. Something’s wrong. I can’t see a multi-billionaire setting foot in any place this this.” Rachel was starting to believe more and more that this was not the place of her dream, which she wasn’t sure if she was happy or concerned about.

Garfield exhaled while pitter pattering behind Rachel as she walked throughout the room. “Don’t worry I can control myself easy peasy.” He said with more honesty in his voice than believable. He left the ground as he took a look at some of the graffiti decorating the interior of the building.

Garfield read the two that were close enough to the windows to allow light to shine on them. “This one says ‘Peace’ and the other one says ‘is not here’….” Well that was pretty lame of them to put. “I wonder which one was here first?” He questioned. They had to be different people since the writing and colors were both different.

He flew up to Rachel’s shoulder and stood up, leaning his arm on her head. “So whadda we do now? I don’t wanna check every room, that’s gonna take foreeeever.” Garfield complained as he crossed his arms. “I think we should just find Lex and beat him up!” The green mushu started shuffling his feet and shadow boxing next to Rachel’s head.

Rachel watched the little lizard try to look threatening. It didn’t work; it only made him look adorable.

“Easy, tiger,” Rachel said, placing a finger on top of his little head to stop him. “We can’t just go after him, he technically hadn’t done anything wrong. Nothing we can prove anyway.”

She grabbed onto Gar and dropped him on her hand in front of her. “We’re already on thin ice in this city. We don’t need Luthor making us the villains.” Rachel lifted up in the air and flew through the building, taking a quick scope of the land just to make sure they didn’t miss anything.

“He made this building a cover for whatever he’s planning, so we know he’s being smart about this. At this point, I don’t know if there’s anything we can really do except keep a close eye on things.”

Level by level she flew until finally she made it to the top floor. She landed back on her feet, disappointed that they were sent on a wild goose chase. “Nothing.”

Even more so was she confused about her dream. Maybe her dream was just a dream after all. Maybe she was just being paranoid and her cracked gem had nothing to do with what she saw.

Garfield stopped moving around once Rachel touched him as intended. He crossed his arms and frowned. “That’s not fair, he totally tried to blow us up! They should believe us, we’re still heroes y’know.” He rebuttaled while getting dropped off onto the ground. It was frustrating having to go about this as if they were the ones doing wrong but no one would believe them.

Rachel was right about the thin ice scenario but that didn’t mean they were untrustworthy as heroes all together. Garfield followed her up the building floors while posing as if he were relaxing on his back. It disturbed him a little that they couldn’t just throw him in jail just because no one believed them. They were the good guys and he was the bad guy, yet it seemed he was getting exactly what he wanted.

Once Rachel landed he did backstrokes floating around her head while talking. “So basically we can’t do nothing?” He stopped in front of her and ‘laid’ on his stomach, propping his chin with the palms of his hands and kicking his feet behind him. “Does that mean we get to do something cool together?” Garfield asked with a grin that showed his mythical teeth.

Rachel ignored the floating lizard circling her until he parked right in front of her, looking way too happy after a failed mission. “Why does it feel like you wanted this to happen?” Like a fly, she swatted him out of her face and flew up to the roof.

From the top of the building, Rachel could get a decent view of the city. She put her hands on her hips, not knowing what exactly she was looking for but looking anyway. Not that she was necessarily looking forward to a big boss fight as it were, but she did like the idea of finishing it today and then focusing on moving past it.

But Gar was right. There really was nothing else they could do today and it was pointless continuing to think about it and what else she could have possibly done to change this outcome. Might as well do something fun.

“Fine,” Rachel said when she saw the green guy popping up on the roof after her. “Let’s get out of here.”

Garfield tumbled through the air and rubbed his nose, surprised he was light enough to be sent flying like that. He figured she was a little frustrated with the whole Lex not being here thing but at the end of the day, what could they do?

He flew up behind Rachel and saw her staring out the the city below them. Garfield turned back into himself and walked next to her. “Are you thinking bout that dream?” He asked, dismissing the leaving thing for now. It seemed something had to be on Rachel’s mind the way she reacted to him.

“I mean you don’t have to talk about it but I bet we’re gonna be fine. Wouldn’t be the first time we fought some bad dudes and it won’t be the last.” Garfield assured with a smile on his face. It wasn’t likely that they would be fighting anyone today so he wanted Rachel’s mind to be clear. Who likes thinking about fighting bad guys when you’re tryna have fun?

Rachel sighed. He was getting much better at reading her, which made it much harder to hide her feelings away.

“I thought I was staying ahead of my dream. Turns out I don’t have a clue when or where it’s going to be. If I don’t know that, I can’t change it,” Rachel said. “I know we can defeat Luthor and the Brotherhood. I’m just concerned about how.”

The windy and chilly weather seemed to calm down, and a nice gentle snowfall seemed to take its place. Rachel looked up to the sky and let the snow hit her face. “Or it really was just all a dream after all, and this is my sign to just let it go.”

She looked over at Gar. “I’m sorry I hit you. Maybe this was a Christmas Miracle in disguise.” She wiped the melting snow off her face. “I’m ready now. You’re right, we should do something fun, maybe walk around the city or something.”

Garfield stood beside Rachel and looked out over the city. His vision honed in on the Titan Tower and everything besides it and Rachel’s voice faded into the background. There was time he wanted to go back just for the sake of going. Was it really so long ago that was the place he lived at? At least his friends were still safe.

Garfield turned back to Rachel and shook his head. “Don’t even worry bout it. I’m a tough little dragon!” He insisted as he popped back into the mushu. He landed on Rachel’s shoulder and gave her a few head pats to let her know there was no hard feelings. “Is there somewhere you wanna go? Or do I gotta choose that too?” Garfield let a little sarcasm out as he spoke.

Rachel was glad he wasn’t mad at her for lashing out at him. She promised herself she wouldn’t do that ever again…without a good reason.

She ignored his sarcasm as an idea came to her. “Actually, there is one place I want to visit,” she said as she created a portal in front of them. A memory from earlier that day came to mind, so she focused on that as she passed through the portal.

They appeared in the part of the city Rachel had just visited that morning, right on the side of the museum.

“I saw the museum is showing a new exhibit today. Since it’s Christmas, they’re letting everyone in for free. I always wanted to go inside,” Rachel explained.

Garfield was under the assumption that they were going to fly to wherever it was Rachel wanted to chill at but once the portal was made he transformed back into himself. He took her hand and walked through the portal with a bit of what the museum could have that would be worth seeing for free.

Of course it was most likely boring but that wouldn’t be nice to say since this was something Rachel wanted to do. Instead Garfield focused on the mystery of what could be inside rather than the mundane items he knew resided within the museum. “Sweet, let’s get our learning on.” His voice as enthusiastic as normal.

Suddenly Garfield remembered something and pulled Rachel back before she could walk off. “Uh I don’t think we should go in, you still got your hood and stuff on.” He reminded the magic user with a chuckle.

Rachel rolled her eyes, sending Gar wasn’t really excited about the museum. “Come on, it’ll do you some good. You might actually like it.” She was just about the head out of the shadows when she was pulled back and reminded what she was wearing.

“Right. Forgot about that.” For the first time, Rachel recognized the difficulty of being an undercover hero. When they were the titans, there was no worry or reason to hide. “I’ll be right back,” she said, covering herself up and disappearing into the ground.

She appeared in her room in her apartment and quickly threw on her green sweater and black jeans over her costume. She rolled up her cloak and shoved it in her backpack, deciding it was better to be safe and have it with her. With a quick look in the mirror, she grabbed her winter jacket and set out again.

Meanwhile, a woman in a long black winter jacket and black sunglasses was heading up the steps into the museum. She paused, turning her head slightly to the side as if hearing something, but the continued on up into the museum. I’m a busy city like Jump City, most civilians were too focused on their own lives to pay attention to the tail just peeking out from under her jacket.

Garfield was glad to have gotten Rachel to go change before anyone saw them and started talking pictures. He remembered before he used to love taking pictures with the people of Jump City but now that would be pretty bad considering no one really liked them.

He stood in the alleyway looking at his feet. It was pretty boring though he tried to be on the look out just in case someone was coming and a random woman just popped out of the ground. What would they even do in that situation?

Garfield smiled when Rachel came back and took her by the hand. “I gots a question. If someone saw you do something magic like teleport back here, could you erase their mind or something?” It was always in his mind that she could do virtually anything and he found that awesome.

Almost the moment Rachel popped back in, she felt Garfield’s hands on hers. “There. Now let’s go!” She pulled him with her out of the shadows and onto the streets, eager to go into the museum.

She frowned a little at his question. “Messing with minds is a treacherous and dangerous thing, Garfield. It’s not something I’d ever do lightly.”

The doors to the museum were wide open, allowing everyone inside without cost. Despite it being a holiday, there was a generous amount of people taking advantage of it. As an empath, Rachel could sense all of their emotions, which she allowed herself to do as she thought to further explain her answering.

“Emotions are easy to control because I can sense them at all times,” she explained, then added shamefully, “I’ve done it before. Needless to say I didn’t have many friends in Azarath. People don’t like it when you play with their emotions. Same goes for memory.”

Rachel stopped walking and looked at Gar, completely serious. “I could. I could take away someone’s memory if I learned the proper spell. It will be in one of my books, might even be easy to cast. But when you start playing with someone’s mind, you’re also playing with their free will. Anyone who takes away someone’s free will can not be considered a hero.”

The sound of smashed glass echoed across the main lobby of the museum, followed by screams and a mob of people pushing they’re way back to the entrance.

Garfield didn’t mean the question in a she should totally do it type of way but it was too late. He may not have been around Rachel for longer than two weeks but he knew an incoming lecture when he heard her say his full name. Garfield found it a bit unfair Rachel could just read his emotions even if he tried to hide them. Good thing he hardly ever did so but still.

Garfield put his hand back in Rachel’s and nodded after she had finished. “I didn’t mean it like that Rae, I was just thinking what to do if someone saw us with normal clothes doing hero stuff.” He explained while hoping to smooth things over. “I’m sorry if I made you m-“ He was interrupted by the glass breaking and turned his head in the direction.

“Good thing we’re still heroes right?” Garfield said as he pulled Rachel towards the sound of the crime. He stopped in his tracks at the sight of a spotted woman with fur and a tail. “Hey look, that lady’s a leopard!” He said with a small laugh in his tone. The woman sneered and the room was clear of any civilians. “You dare call me a leopard? I may have your tongue for that, green one!”

Garfield didn’t like the way she said Green one and knew instantly this woman was a bad guy. He turned to Rachel and raised a brow. “We can beat her up since she’s bad guy, even if it’s in public right?”

“I don’t think we have a choice,” Rachel replied, preparing herself for a fight. The feline female noticed this and started to laugh.

“Aww, that’s adorable. You think you can put up a fight against me? Tell you what, I’ll give you one chance since you’re both so cute. I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that whole ‘leopard’ comment and you can stay out of my way while I get what I came her for. Sound fair?” The woman asked as she flexed her very sharp nail. No, not nails. Claws.

“Whatever you want from this exhibit belongs here. You can go to the gift shop like every other sane person,” Rachel said.

“Wrong answer,” The cat lady tsked. “Such a pity. Guess I’ll just have to show you the difference between a leopard and a Cheetah.”

In an incredible amount of speed, Cheetah pounced at Garfield. Rachel was able to block the perceived attack, but with the blink of an eye the cat rebounded and kicked Rachel to the ground.

Garfield wasn’t sure about who this lady was but the more he looked at her spots the more he realized he was wrong about his original assumption. He followed along with the conversation and semi got into his fighting stance while Rachel did the talking.

“Ooooh you’re a cheetah. I knew I was cl-“ Garfield stopped as Rachel flew to the ground. He helped her up, half processing the fact he was saved then Rachel was hit in retaliation. “Are you okay Rae? She’s really fast…” He stated the obvious while helping his partner up.

“I think we shou-“ Garfield instantly became an elephant as Cheetah kicked his side only to bounce off of his large body. He barely had time to react to the woman but it was enough to change into something so heavy that he wouldn’t be sent flying. “It seems you’re more capable than you look. I’ll have you know Superman himself can’t withstand my claws.” She brandished aforementioned claws and smiled. “Let’s see what the elephant can’t hold up to.”

Rachel recovered as the elephant faced the brunt of Cheetah’s attacks. The villain knew how to pack a kick, the power of the kick mixed with the pace when she dealt it was astounding.

“Azarath Metrion Zinthos!” Rachel’s eyes turned white, and in response, Trojan helmets and armor lifted up from the exhibit and zoomed in the Cheetah’s direction.

The Cheetah roared in response for being knocked over by a metal helmet, but like her running speed she recovered quickly, flipping and performing somersaults to dodge the items, making it all the way across the room to a shelf with multiple different greek relics.

“Now you’re starting to annoy me,” The Cheetah growled. She punched her hand through the glass and pulled out one of relics, which looked to be some sort of rope. She swung the rope out and cracked it like a whip. The sound of the rope hitting the floor echoed throughout the room.

“Beast Boy, be careful,” Rachel called out, but this time the Cheetah went for her first. The cat jumped onto Rachel, but this time Rachel was ready, sending her backwards with a thrust of her soul energy.

Cheetah flipped back into the air, this time using her rope to latch onto Rachel’s wrist and swing back into her, kicking her legs out from under her. Instead of simply falling to the ground, Rachel phased through it. She popped up behind the Cheetah, preparing to zap her with dark energy. The cat-like reflexes were faster. Cheetah released the rope behind her, wrapping Rachel up in its coils. Cheetah pushed Rachel up against the wall.

“Be a good girl and stay here while I take care of your friend,” Cheetah said with a fanged smile. For some reason, Rachel felt as if she had to do just as she said, so she stopped struggling against the rope.

“Now, where were we, Babar?” The Cheetah asked turning back around with her claws out. “How’s about you and me figure out who’s the real Queen of the jungle?”

Garfield felt utterly useless watching the fight between Rachel and their new enemy transpire. He wanted to react but he was afraid he’d hit Rachel at the pace they were moving around. He decided to step in when Rachel was getting tangled up in the rope or whatever she had in her hand.

For the first time in ever, Garfield had a plan while they were about to fight. Normally this was something that he would leave to someone else but seeing Rachel in danger jogged his brain immediately. “Oh you don’t like elephants? How bout something hotter!”

Cheetah laughed at him when he turned into the small dragon and Garfield sort of counted on it. “Am I supposed to be afraid of you Mushu?” She said before Garfield floated in the air, mentally lining up something Cheetah had not realized. He smiled “If you’re so fast then dodge this!” The dragon blew a line of fire at his enemy that was weak but quick.

While the flame flew like a bullet, Cheetah was much faster and cartwheeled out of the way. Garfield’s blast meet the rope that entangled Rachel and burned it off of her. “Yes!” He called out before Cheetah growled and darted at him, brandishing her claws.

Luckily his attention was already on her this time and he simply flew where she couldn’t reach him. “Nice try Nala but you can’t fly.” Garfield blew a raspberry at her before firing off stronger flames at her direction, forgetting they were in a public building.

As if it were alive, the rope recoiled from the flames. It didn’t break, but it didn’t seam to very much like the heat. Once mobile again, Rachel extinguished the flame on the rope, and then the flames that hit the floor of the museum.

“Cheetahs don’t need to fly when they can jump,” Cheetah responded. She leaned back on her hind legs before leaping up high into the air and swiped at the little dragon. The burst of flame hit its mark, but so did the sharp nails. Cheetah fell back to the ground, screeching in pain at her scorched shoulder, but between her winces in pain there was laughter. Her claw had slashed across the dragon’s stomach.

Rachel did not yet realize the damage that was done, instead focusing on the magical rope that had momentarily made her submit to the enemy. With her powers, she lifted up the rope and sent it to the distracted Cheetah, wrapping her up in her own preferred weapon.

“No!” Cheetah screamed, struggling against the rope. Rachel walked over to her and said quietly, “It is your turn to be a good girl and stay.”

Garfield should’ve known better than to tease a superhuman, especially a deadly one with claws. If she could run that fast why should it be far fetched that she could jump that high. He moved back a little bit did feel the quick, stinging pain that was now on his stomach. It was so slight that it went faded behind the adrenaline pumping through his blood.

Garfield landed, turning back to himself as his wound was now covered by clothing. “Look say you Wonder Woman. You use that thing pretty good.” He said to Rachel as he squatted down next to Cheetah. The hero poked her shoulder and she bit at him. “What’s so funny? We beat you and you’re going to jail.” He asked as Cheetah smirked at the two.

“You’ll find out soon enough and don’t worry I have a really good lawyer” She said comfortably while Garfield stood back up and shrugged his shoulders at Rachel. “I dunno what she’s talking bout but we should throw her in jail right?” He asked while his adrenaline slowly began wearing off.

“The police will be here any minute,” Rachel said. “You tried to rob the museum in broad daylight, all for this old piece of rope. Why?”

Cheetah sneered at Rachel. “I was told Jump City was not protected by goodie two-shoes like you. That is the only reason why you bested me this time. But don’t worry, I won’t have a problem next time. Not when you’re all alone without your little flamethrower to distract me.”

“You’re idle threats don’t scare me,” Rachel said flatly. “What is this rope to you? Tell me.”

Cheetah’s eyes suddenly glazed over, and without struggle, she answered, “It’s the Lasso of Submission.” Eyes coming back to normal, Cheetah growled. “You don’t have the right to use it on me.”

“You’re not the one in control, here,” Rachel retorted. Cheetah smiled her wide evil smile again and laughed.

The sound of sirens reached Rachel’s ears. “There’s the police. We should probably go, Beast Boy.”
