Fandom Beast Boy and Raven (Closed)

Rachel was going to argue that she was fine, but he had already dropped everything to help her. She fished for her keys in her pocket, too distracted to notice the possible comedic scene of Gar walking into a locked door.

Even though they weren’t gone for long, Rachel was happy to be back home. The Feng Shui of the room was refreshing to her, and she already felt her energy coming back. She sat down on the couch and watched as Gar went running for their things. She felt bad he had to carry it all by himself, but she couldn’t help but grin at the silly display of “Doctor Gar” fumbling around, trying to be helpful.

“You’re being ridiculous, Doctor Gar,” Rachel said with a exhausted chuckle, but she pointed at the small wooden box on the side of the counter and scooted it over an inch with her powers. “Tea bags are in there.”

She leaned her elbow on the arm of the couch and rested her head on her hand, watching Gar figure it out. Thoughts began to surface on how Gar was basically homeless right now. He had an apartment, sure, but it was compromised and unsafe to live in for him now. She suddenly wished her apartment had a second bedroom. It was nice having a roommate again.

Rachel stopped watching Gar and took out her phone, clicking on a real estate website and searching up nearby housings.

Garfield was glad to have a little help from Rachel since the box was unmarked and barren. “Thank you Nurse Rachel.” He took a bag out carefully as if performing surgery and went to stick it in through the spout before remembering the hole at the top was just covered by the handle. He lifted the covering and tossed the teabag inside, turning the stove on.

“Easy peasy. Another afternoon of chilling saved by Doctor Gar and his miracle hands.” Garfield held his hands up, wiggling his fingers before hearing the kettle hiss, the sounds of singeing fabric coming from inside. He took a moment to think about what he forgot this time and quickly grabbed the handle on the kettle, not thinking about whether it would be hot or not but thankfully it wasn’t by some lucky occurrence.

Garfield filled the kettle with water before placing it back into the stovetop and exhaling. “Now we’re good.” He confirmed before heading over and plopping down on the couch next to Rachel. He laid his head on her lap facing up at her and smiled charismatically. “How’s my number one patient?” Garfield couldn’t often tell if Rachel was good or bad unless she allowed her to show it. The truth was she was great at hiding emotions but sometimes he had a gut feeling that told him to distrust what she said and usually it was right.

Rachel was so focused on her phone, she didn’t realize when Gar sat on the couch until his head fell onto her lap. She jumped at the sudden contact and looked down from her phone to see his smiling face.

“I told you, I’m fine. You’re taking this way too seriously. Didn’t think I’d ever say that to you,” she said, rolling her eyes.

Looking back to her phone, she saw a place that might actually be worth looking at. She hesitated before deciding to tell Gar about it.

“Hey, Gar. I was thinking…with all the recent crime happening in the city, it might be helpful to live close to each other…in case something happens,” she started, not yet showing her phone, waiting to see what he said.

Garfield turned his smile into a teasingly, defensive frown. “Hey, I just wanna make sure my Rae is all okay. You’ve done a whole bunch for me and I gots to do the same right?” He questioned rhetorically while looking up at her.

He had completely forgotten the whole situation with his own apartment having to be vacated due to the villains they were fighting. Garfield thought more and more, knowing he’d have to get another job and such. The money he happened to not spend would run out eventually. He had no clue what the best option would be in terms of his living condition.

“Yeah that’d be pretty smart. What you think we-“ Garfield cut himself off. “What you think I should do?” It was obvious he had no plan or idea in mind and to be frank, he was going to just go with what Rachel suggested to him unless it was outrageous.

Rachel shrugged and pulled up a picture of the place she was looking at. “Well, maybe we,” she corrected him, “can move somewhere like this.”

She turned her phone down to show him, flipping through the images. It was a town house, two stories tall, right alongside the water with Rachel’s still desired view of Titan tower. It had two bedrooms upstairs, a bathroom upstairs and downstair, and a stainless steel kitchen right off the living room on the first floor.

“Pictures can be deceiving, so I’d want to see it before moving there. I mean, it’s not like we haven’t been roommates before,” Rachel said, but then quickly countered, “I mean, if you want. It’s not a big deal, and it’s no Titans Tower or anything. If we’re going to be fighting crime again, we should be careful so I just thought-“ Rachel stopped herself and took a breath.

She was getting flustered. She doesn’t get flustered. It had to be all this close contact going on, she wasn’t used to it, but she also didn’t want to push him away.

“… What do you think?”

Garfield eyeballed the screen as pictures scrolled by and showed the empty spaces and rooms that could soon be their home. He liked the shiny look of the kitchen countertops, it gave him sort of futuristic vibes. This time instead of an apartment they would be living in an actual house, which he had no complaints towards whatsoever.

He found it sort of cute that Rachel started rambling out her words and couldn’t get out exactly what she wanted. Garfield sat up and put his back against the couch as if they were normally sitting next to each other. There was no way he could be remotely serious laying down like that but right now he needed to have a fraction of seriousness in his body to at least help his partner decide.

“I think we should totally stay together.” Garfield said while maintaining a straight face. He smiled a little and held his hand out for Rachel to hold onto. “As long as we have each other we can handle anything, right?” It was a bit cheesy but boy did Gar love cheese.

Rachel stared at him, cheeks flushed. “Ok. If that’s what you think.” Serious Gar was intimidating in a way, it was like his heart was right out there in his open hand, waiting for her to take it.

The whistle of the kettle saved her from the moment. Instead of going for his hand, Rachel playfully pushed him over and stood up to turn off the stove.

“All right, Doctor Gar, let’s see this magical remedy of yours,” she said as she grabbed a mug from the cupboard. She threw a tea bag in the mug and went to pour when she realized the water was coming out dark. Immediately she realized that he must have put a tea bag into the kettle instead of boiling just the water. Rachel decided not to tell him, he tried so hard to make it for her. Besides, how bad could it be?

Rachel poured the water into the mug and threw the tea bags out. Blowing into the mug, she made her way back to the couch and sat back down.

Carefully she took a sip, and had to fight a grimace from showing on her face. The tea was incredibly bitter from seeping in the water and boiling for so long. “Look at that, I’m cured,” she said with a grin. “Just like magic.”

Garfield felt Rachel‘s hand…only it pushed against his face instead of touching his own hand, causing him to tip over. He laughed at the gesture before sitting himself back up. “You know I coulda got the tea.” But it was too late as Rachel already made her way to the screeching kettle and gotten herself a mug.

Garfield gave a smirk “You know I make the best magic food Rae, ‘cept you do make a mean tea.” He contradicted himself immediately but watched as she sat next to him. Garfield felt slightly triumphant whenever Rachel approved of his tea. “Only to best for my partner in crime.” He poked fun at their momentary villainous side while thinking about getting himself some of the tea he made.

“I think I want some too.” Garfield decided, getting up and walking to the kettle. He searched an embarrassing number of cabinets before finding a mug to use and setting it on the counter. Carefully, the green lad poured the tea from the slightly hot kettle into the mug before placing it back on the stovetop.

“So Rae, when you wanna check out this place?” Garfield cheerfully strutted back to the couch while talking. “I was thinkin what bout tomorrow-“ He cut himself off by spitting every drop of his tea back into the cup. “What the-? This tastes terrible!” He said with part disappointment and part disgust. He thought he had followed exactly what Rachel had done to a t but it definitely didn’t taste the same. “What I forget? Was it the sugar?” Did She even use sugar before?

“Umm…” Rachel was going to stop Gar from drinking the tea, but he had already stood up and she had no excuse why he shouldn’t. Guiltily, she swallowed down some more of the proverbial dirt water.

She watched as he cheerfully chatted with his cup of tea until he took his first sip and promptly spit it right out. “Uh, yeah. Sugar. That could be it,” Rachel agreed before muttering, “Or putting the tea bag in the kettle instead of the cup. Who knows?”

To change subjects, she went back to what he was saying before. “Yeah. Let’s check out this place tomorrow. The sooner we find a place the sooner you get your own room instead of a couch,” she commented. She looked around the room, wondering if she would miss it when she moved out. After a moment of reflection, she realized she wouldn’t. Not really. It was a residence for 3 years, but really it never was a home for her. Homes are made of stronger stuff.

“We check out the town house, then we solve the Luthor problem,” Rachel added, surprised she almost forgot. There was still that building their research from the library bade them to pay a visit.

Garfield turned his heel and walked back to the kitchen, dumping the mug in the sink before placing it upside down on the dirty dish side. He never knew tea could taste that bad. It reminded him of something Starfire would’ve made. “Stupid leaf juice…”

Garfield pouted his way back to the couch and plopped into his seat. He rubbed the fabric of the couch and frowned. “But I like the couch. It’s soft and smells like those sticks you burn.” He scrunched his face trying to remember exactly what they were called. “In cents?” He questioned before laying back on the couch, his head against the arm of the chair further from Rachel.

Garfield propped one shoeless foot up at an arch and let his outer leg hang off the couch. “You know I think imma like living together again. Maybe we could have like movie nights and maybe even date nights.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows up and down at Rachel.

“Incense,” Rachel corrected, shaking her head. She relaxed into the couch keeping her mug up close to her nose. It smelled nicer than it tasted, and Rachel liked the warm air hitting her face. She glanced over at him and held up the tv remote.

“I could pop some popcorn, make us some dinner too,” she said with an eyebrow raised. “You got any movies in your bag of toys?”

Rachel knew she didn’t have much in the kitchen, but if she was moving soon, she better start using it up. She wasn’t going to take the food with her to the new place.

Garfield reached his arm out but was too far away to actually grab the remote. “Aaa come on.” At a certain point he simply became a long arm orangutan and took the remote, turning back into himself immediately. “You can do that and imma take off these hot clothes. I’m getting baked.” He pulled his beanie off and got up, walking to his bags.

Garfield took a handful of unrecognizable clothes then headed to the bathroom. Minutes later, he returned in some people pajama pants and a black t shirt, coming back to dig through his bags. He pulled out one of his consoles, thankful they doubled as DVD players, and hooked it up to Rachel’s TV.

Once he figured out the TV, Garfield looked over to Rachel. “What type of movie you wanna watch?”

Rachel looked through her cabinets and fridge, ultimately deciding on making tomato soup with grilled cheese, something warm and comforting to combat the cold weather. She took out a lot and pan and began preparing the soup.

The butter, onions, and tomatoes were simmering in water when Gar came back into the living room in his pajamas. She didn’t know why she appreciated the look of him in a T-shirt so much, but she did, not that she was going to tell him that.

“Hmm. How about your favorite movie? That way I’ll know how little taste you have in culture,” Rachel said with a grin, turning her attention to making the popcorn. She threw the bag of kernels in the microwave and let it pop while she moved on to the grilled cheese. One by one she piled the grilled cheese sandwiches onto a plate, knowing to make more than just two full sandwiches for the both of them.

The popcorn finished, and Rachel opened the bag into a bowl. By that point, the grilled cheese and the soup were just about ready for eating, and she was a bit toasty from standing over the stove the whole time still in her winter getup.

“Be right back,” she said to the stove, flying over to her room to get changed quick.

Garfield wagged his finger pointedly at Rachel, trying to decide whether her comment on his taste was a complement or not. He decided to remain silent on that exact comment before heading back to the couch. “My favorite? I dunno if you’re gonna like it but okay.” He said with skeptical emerald eyes.

Garfield went to his bags and pulled out a dvd case and walked it over to his console, placing it in and starting the movie. He skipped past the menu and started the movie, pausing it on a blank screen so Rachel would get a little surprise to what the movie began. His mood became infinitely better when he smelled cheese and tomatoes all together.

“That smells awesome Rae, who knew Chef Gar had a co-Chef.” Garfield teased before watching her zoom over to her room. While she left he took it upon himself to at least but the popcorn in a bowl and sit back on the couch, peeking at the tomato soup and grilled cheeses.

Rachel came back in a grey long-sleeved shirt and grey, black and white flannel pants. She noticed the popcorn was already over by the couch so she went over to the kitchen finish up the meal.

“It’s just soup. Nothing nearly as crazy as your chaotic ventures in the kitchen,” she said with a shrug. “What is that quote? It’s the simple things in life…whatever.”

The soup was done, so she grabbed two bowls and filled them with soup. Running out of hands, she used her powers to bring over the plate of grilled cheese sandwiches and two empty plates for the taken sandwich. At the last second she remembered to grab spoons and drop them into the bowl. Finally all set, she made her way back over to the couch with the bowls.

“All right, I did my part,” she said as she sat down on the couch and handed him his bowl. “Your turn. What movie are we watching?”

Garfield turned his head to see Rachel exit from the hallway and smiled. “Just cuz something’s simple, doesn’t mean it’s not the bomb! Look at this food, it looks simple but I it’s the awesomest grilled cheese I had.” He said setting the bowl of popcorn on the table in front of them.

He took the tomato soup bowl from Rachel and took a sip without the spoon. He excluded rapidly, feeling like he was breathing fire. Garfield started the movie with the liquid lava flowing down his throat. Once he was able to talk again he gave a small smile. “This is really good, but the movie is called Deadpool. It’s this cool superhero kind of who sometimes talks to the people watching the movie. Like he KNOWS he’s a comic hero!” Garfield dipped his grilled cheese in the soup and inhaled the piece.

It was clear he was fascinated by the character’s humor and forth wall breaking abilities. He had never seen another hero to do something like it before. Garfield scooted towards Rachel so that they were side by side, giving her a view of his impressive disappearing act of grilled cheese triangles, piece by piece. “I think you might kinda like this one.” Garfield smiled.

Rachel grabbed a sandwich and dunked it in her soup as the movie began, not at all disgusted by the rate in which Gar ate his food, being used to it at this point. She immediately understood what Gar was talking about with Deadpool breaking the fourth wall. She thought it was an interesting concept, it wasn’t something she thought she ever read in a book before.

None of the jokes were really hitting home, being mostly childish and explicit, and one montage in particular made her flush with embarrassment for watching it, but Rachel found herself interested in the story itself, pushing all that other silliness aside. The story of an anti-hero who was just trying to be with his girl against all odds, nothing wrong with that.

She probably wouldn’t like it as much if Gar wasn’t sitting next to her. He obviously found the jokes funny, laughing every so often. Rachel always thought his laugh was cute, it welcomed others to laugh with him.

“They keep referencing X-Men,” Rachel said as they were more than an hour into the movie and the soup and grilled cheese were long-since consumed. “Who are they?”

Garfield liked both iterations of the Deadpool movies, though he wasn’t as talkative in X-Men Origins. He had finished his soup and grilled cheeses long before Rachel so he shared the popcorn between them for the remainder of the movie. He originally planned to play both movies for Rachel but when she mentioned not knowing the X-Men Garfield fumbled for his controller to pause the movie.

He looked over at his girlfriend with shock. “No way you don’t know the X-Men! They’re kinda like the Doom Patrol!” Garfield hopped up from his seat and rushed to his bags. After clothes went flying everywhere he frowned. “Oh yeah, I left all my comics.” He turned back to Rachel and stood up in front of her. “So basically it’s like this guy who recruits mutants and trains them to use their powers to fight bad dudes.”

Garfield became so caught up in the explanation he even mimicked the heroes and villains. “There’s Wolverine who’s got claws and can heal from a bunch of stuff like Deadpool, there’s Colossus the guy in the movie, there’s Magneto who’s like a bad guy that can control metal, there’s…” The young hero went on and on until Rachel eventually stopped him.

Rachel jumped at the sudden explosion of energy coming from Gar as he rushed around to look for his comics and then went off on a long-winded tangent on the so called X-Men. She tried to keep up with his explanation, but ultimately lost him.

She raised her powers over his mouth to block him from speaking. “Ok ok I get it, calm down. Super hero team of weirdos. Very cool.” She released his mouth and grabbed a handful of popcorn. It was not lost on her that he related the X-Men to the Doom Patrol instead of the Titans. For the brief time she did meet the Doom Patrol, she didn’t very much like them, but especially how they treated Beast Boy. The mission seemed more important than the team members. Maybe that’s why Deadpool didn’t want to join the X-Men?

“Is that why you joined the Doom Patrol? Because they were like the X-Men?” She asked. “Or do you like the X-Men because they’re like the Doom Patrol?”

Garfield felt the magic and stopped himself before heading back to the couch and sitting down. He took a few piece of popcorn and began chewing on it a little at a time, feeling a bit embarrassed about what he was going to say. “Actually…I joined the Doom Patrol first but…” He stared at the kernel in his hand. He remembered making the decision to join the Titans and how some of the members of the Doom Patrol felt but pushed through those emotions.

“The X-Men is what I wished the Doom Patrol was. They really care for each other and they’re like family. Then I joined the Titans and realized you don’t have to all be weird mutants to be family. You could be a human or a robot or even a half demon to be family. But I dunno if I would trade you or the other dudes for the X-Men. Not a chance.” Garfield explained the best he could. “Even if it’s still just us I’m glad I got you.” He smiled and gave her a nudge with his elbow.

Garfield unpaused the movie and put his arm around Rachel. “Now let’s finish the movie! I gots to show you the X-Men movies since you don’t like to read comics and stuff.” Garfield offered while relaxing on the couch.

Rachel felt the journey of emotions Gar went through, and felt guilty for her questioning. Ever the optimist though, his mood changed on a dime and like clockwork was happy once again. She leaned against his chest and put her feet up on the coffee table as the movie continued on.

“I don’t know. You have a lot of convincing to do to make me think the X-Men are cool, although Negasonic Teenage Warhead has potential,” Rachel said.

A while later, the movie came to an end, the credits starting to roll. The popcorn bowl was empty save for a few I popped kernels. Rachel leaned forward and placed the bowl on the coffee table. “Look at that, we finally got through a whole movie.” For some reason that was difficult to do for them, with the first one being interrupted by a villain and the second one interrupted by Rachel for…reasons. “And I guess your taste in movies isn’t the worst,” she added.

Garfield laughed at this, obvious to him as to why Rachel liked her. “That’s cuz she acts kinda like you Rae.” He said with a small amount of tease to his voice. The rest of the movie was still comical to Garfield no matter the number of times he had seen it and the ending was still awesome. He didn’t want to spoil the next movie for Rachel so he kept quiet about the next one.

Garfield looked at the bowl and groaned. “And the popcorns all goooone.” He said before nodding his head. “I pick a bunch of good movies when you don’t blow the TV up.” Garfield booped Rachel’s nose. He got up and stretched, making unnecessary noises while he picked the bowls up. “Guess I got dishes since you made the food..” Garfield pouted. Even though he knew it was more than fair to do the dishes he didn’t have to like it.

Rachel scrunched up here face at the nose boop, not sure how to feel about it. She watched him get up and grab the bowls, groaning the whole way. He always hated doing the dishes at Titans Tower.

“Rules are rules,” Rachel agreed, but then stood up and grabbed the rest of the dishes. “But it’ll go a lot quicker if you have help. I’ll dry.”

Together they washed, dried, and put away the dishes. Standing next time, Rachel remembered just how much he had grown in the past years, which made her think of something.

“Uhh, Gar? We still need to check out that abandoned building Luthor owns… we probably shouldn’t be dressed as civilians. Do you still fit in your uniform?”

Garfield was grateful Rachel decided to help him, giving a sigh of relief. “Ahhh sweet…” While they did the dishes together, he was humming to the music that played in his head occasionally bumping hips with Rachel. When she asked him about his suit Garfield though back to about the time he last tried it on.

He shook his head “I dunno, last time it was a little tight but that was a couple years ago.” Garfield was positive he had it with him regardless of being unable to fit it. “How come we can’t just ease our way in the place? Like ninjas!” Garfield connected a lot of stealthy operations to being a ninja considering it was on his mind a lot.

Rachel was quiet for a moment, thinking about her dream. The vision was only bits and pieces of a much bigger puzzle she couldn’t yet see, but if she was right in thinking that 72 Bay Street was the building in which they would face off against the Brotherhood, then there was reason to believe her vision would happen sooner than she’d hope. She still didn’t come up with a plan to make it not come true.

One thing she was sure about was that she was spying on the villains, which meant she at least must have snuck in. Gar came out of one of her portals, which means he might not have been with her. So, the easiest way to change the script would be to simply not leave his side. Defeat the villains as before, but have Gar nearby so she won’t lose control. Vision changed, just like that.

“All right, Ninja Turtle,” Rachel grinned. “I prefer the sneaky way anyway. But we’re staying together the whole time, no going on ahead. And you stay in animal form. Brain may know your identity, but there’s a good chance Luthor doesn’t. Let’s keep it that way,” Rachel determined.

The last of the dishes were finally dried and put away, and Rachel placed the hand towel back on the dish rack. “There. Was that so horrible?”
