Lmao, it's not that bad. It's to combat obesity and ... we don't really like the American diet, so we're not missing out on much. Also, American fast food chains, ketchup, and 'processed' foods are banned, too.

Can confirm, spent a few days in Paris during a European tour I did some years back. Never even saw a food wrapper, let alone actual fast food. No cheeseburgers, no fries, no DP...it was just the worst thing ever. (jk, of course)

The closest I ever got to fast-food while there was this pseudo-Asian seafood restaurant, felt pretty Westernized to make it easier for tourists like myself to handle. I was one of maybe three people in that group that knew how to use chopsticks, it was great.

Ronan Ronan That was.. a fantastic description! You lead such a healthy and productive life. It makes me wanna live in France for a while just to be whipped into shape, haha.

It's so neat to get a look into other cultures. My grandparents have been pretty much everywhere, and they talk about their experiences all the time. Egypt is a highlight. :grinningteeth: If I could get off my ass I'd definitely want to travel.

Wow. The farthest I've ever traveled is halfway across the U.S. to Utah. 5 month trip (we stopped at most of the famous canyons and such). And what did we do when we get to Utah? We stayed there for 2-4 days and that was that.

Still sounds fun! I think I've only ever been to Manitoba to meet with my other grandparents. Terrible, cramped 12-hr car ride. :p I live in northern Alberta.

Haha! There are some parts of Paris that are Americanised for the sake of tourism. I never go to Paris unless I plan on being stampeded by tourists or to go to PRIDE marches, festivals, limited galleries, et cœtera. Paris is like a weekend thing. But also, Paris is very different from the rest of France. It's not reflective of true French culture. Paris a mix of world cultures, consisting primarily of South Africans and refugees from the Middle East whereas cities outside of Paris proper are ... white ... and have a stronger French identity.

But also your culture and actions are determined by the region you live in. For example, I live about two hours outside of Paris, and my city is very French, but it is also very English because it's been invaded so many times over the centuries by Anglo-Saxons and British monarchies. It was also burned to the ground by the Germans in WW2, so the west side of the city on the Seine is destroyed Gothic cathedrals like Notre Dame whereas the east side of the Seine is modern buildings.

There's no one French culture/identity. It's spread out and different across the regions. Heck, people in Northern France do more la bise than the South!

edit: PJ-Flash PJ-Flash I actually don't recommend France for first-time European travellers. I always say England because—well—it's England! And I absolutely adore London and York! Also the language barrier is easily surpassed with only a few 'unusual' English words compared to the American/Canadian language. They love to use the word 'queue', :'-)

Gotcha! I'd considered France is because lots of Canada is French-Canadian. You never know if someone you meet speaks one or the other, so schools teach basic French as a mandatory subject to bypass that barrier. Though I do understand there are differences between Canadian French and ... French French?

I would love to visit England, though! There are a ton of historical monuments there, aren't there? I should read up more on it - my dad's been, so he could probably tell me a lot. My entire family's been out of Canada but me :P

Worlds of difference between French-Canadian and France French! I’m not sure the exact specifics, but I’m pretty sure Canadian-French is more ‘casual’ and has changed a lot of the words or abbreviated it to fit that casuallness. You’ll actually have to research that a bit since, again, I’m not too sure on the specifics.

Yes! England is amazing! It just a country you can run around in and have fun! France is more low-key. We like to move slow and nick-pick whereas England is more outgoing: the fun Tube, the London Eye, the Tower of London, the London Dungeon, Buckingham Palace, etc.!
In Paris, the tourist spots are all ‘stop and stare at this’, if that makes sense. It’s the polar opposite of England.

That's interesting! I assumed there would be some corner-cutting. I will definitely make sure to look it up.

I'm already sold. A fun tube? That's all I need.
I totally get what you mean - I always imagined French to be much more mellow with its attractions. I can appreciate art and architecture, but I'm very hands-on. England seems like heaven!

I like this little community we have going. It’s nice.

I like Europe. I like they way do many things. Eating is one of them. I’ve never been to France. I hope to someday go there. But I’ve been to a few European countries.

Good call on contact tomorrow with the upgrade Grammatic Grammatic . Is that the link to the room or just Discord proper? I’m already on there.

Silvana Silvana so did Angel come from the north heading south to the fire or from Oakheart in the south heading north like everyone else?

Even though I would love to visit France, I absolutely would love to visit Germany.
