The nations are at war!

The seemingly unstoppably fire nation have eliminated the air benders and and pacified the water Nations set its sight to expand their holding into the earth kingdom.

The avatar is nowhere to be found.

It is left to the regular benders and people to find there own way through the word

and maybe restore the balance themselves.

Jao sat lazily against a tree in the outskirts of his family farm, donging his job as usual. Everything was peaceful in the farm and the rest of the village for not, the day cloudless and blue with a warm spring sun bathing area. Only the various squads of Earth Kingdom soldiers using the nearby road to get to the front was the only indicator that there was a war going on not too far from here. He often dodge duty to watch the soldiers go by, interested in the occasional tanks or cavalry marching by, they seemed never ending and powerful. However, the never seem to come back and always new people going to the front.

Erana, though everyone just called her Era, was actually on her way to Jao, she watched his tall and bulky frame lean against the tree just watching the soldiers pass. Her brother was deployed to the front just the day before. She stood silently, watching the soldiers for a moment before looking to Jao. "Dreaming of becoming a hero one day?" Era finally spoke, teasing her friend as she continued to walk to him. She was one of the people who believed the Avatar was killed, that he would never rise again. It's the only thing she wasn't hopeful about. The last thing she wanted was her best friend fighting in the war. "Maybe we should all just go to Boh Sing Say (most likely spelt wrong), the Fire Nation can't attack there."

"Hey, Era." Jao said with a chuckling at Era teasing sitting up immediately to talk to her after the soldiers passed past and watched the cutely smiling petite girl he called a friend approuch him. "And no...Well.. Not that big of hero, i try to be a little realistic with my daydreams. Imagine me with old "sticky" here against the fire benders." He touched the quarterstaff laying next to him. He pride and joy when he wasnt donging working he was practicing with his staff, knocking out imaginary fire nation soldiers."Right now, i am imagine the avatar returning and i am part of the group helping him or her going after the fire lord and ending the war. He or she is coming back i am sure of it."

"Reincarnation can take years, besides they whipped the nomads clean before the Avatar even surfaced long enough." She wasn't one to be negative but she just didn't see this hope coming. "The war been going on for what? How many decades?" She crossed her arms, she didn't want to argue this with him. She ran a hand through her dark hair and smiled slightly. "I want to practice that new move Grandpa taught me, you want to come with me?" Her Grandfather was thought to be the last bender in their family until she was born. Sometimes she felt like she was out of place, being a bender in their village.

"Hopes springs eternal, Era."He said simply to her argument about the Avatar not wanting the conversation on the subject to go either. He had his own family in the war, well had if one would believe what other were saying. Officially he was MIA and there was the risk that either Jao or his father would be drafted soon enough as long as this war goes on, neither of which he was looking forward to. This lead to the reason why he didn't want to argue with Era about the Avatar, she might actually convince her to her point of view and he feared the result. He forced a smile and stood up, picking up sticky along the way."I still have a little time until my father goes on a warpath of his own to find me. However, i am strictly audience and not participating, my ankle still hurts from the time you tried to raise the ground under my feet."

Era chuckled, she did have a habit of accidentally hurting him due to all her attention not on what she was doing. Not that she would ever admit to him. "This one we have to go towards the cliff, Grandpa taught me how you can split them into two. I did it once but that was it." She said pointing to the cliff, where the side was straight, like a wall.

"Splitting a cliff in half... Yeah no one is going to hurt from something like that. "He said sarcastically before groaning."However, a few falling rocks is nothing compared to the thrashing my father is going to give me so come on. Besides, someone has to save your life." He smiled and winked at her, before spinning his staff around him."Ok, i am ready. Lets go."

Era rolled her eyes and began walking, "Lets just hope I don't ruin the cabbage man's cabbages again." She looked to him with a small chuckle. "If you didn't scream Earth Kingdom people would assume your staff was a glider." She teased before quickly dropping it. She had respect for sticky too.

As they walked she picked up a decent size rock to bend until they got to the cliff. She looked up at it, a tad nervous. She wasn't use to big things. "Maybe I make some Fire Benders fall."

"Yeah, an air glider? That would be awesome flying around like that. Imagine that."He said as he followed as he began to imagine it. The child in him went to life as he placed his staff on his back through the inside of his belt and raised his hand to either side of the saff as if he was holding on an air gliders wing. He began to run around Era as if he was gliding. "Yao Jang, air normad. I am wasted in the earth kingdom."

Era smirked, twitching her toes to make a rock trip him. "I think nomads are graceful." She chuckled, helping him up. "I like you as an Earthy, if you were a nomad I wouldn't have a friend. Would I?" She may pick on Jao but he was her best friend, if not her only friend. He meant the world to her and not very many people had the privilege to know that either. "So, lets see if I can split this thing, hm?"

"Wow.."Yao called as he tripped on the rock and struggled to keep his balance, in the process his staff his staff stuck his head. "Ouch!" He regained his balance and rubbed the back of his head with one hand." Well, with friends like you..."He muttered before he stopped him before he said something that he might regret. Not many people can stand his particular brand of laid back joker, only Era out of all of them would willingly spend time with him because of it, at least for an extend period of time. Her friendship was something he really appreciated especially after his brothers MIA announcement."Just let me find some cover first..."He looked around to find none."Oh darn."

Era chuckled, "Just don't talk." She needed her full attention on the cliff. She placed her hands evenly apart on the the cliff. Before she knew it the cliff rumbled and slit evenly in half. "Whoo!" She said before watching a thing of cabbages fall and a man at the top yell about his cabbages. "Sorry!" She yelled before focusing on the cliff closing again. "I wonder if his whole family will be like that." She mumbled.

"Ok... I got to admit that was pretty awesome." He said looking in stunned amazement at the cliff cut in half. The yell of the cabbage man brought him out of the amazed trance and he roared in laughter." That never get old. Come on, the cant be more then one person that gets so bothered over his cabbages. I am suprised that there is even..."He paused mid sentence as he noticed people coming from the road used by the soldiers before."Look!" It was Earth Nation soldiers running towards the village.

"Wh..Why are they returning?" She moved her foot to be lifted up to see the soldiers. There was no way the war was over. "Jao, they look worried." She looked farther out, trying to catch a glimpse until she seen multiple Ostrichhorses, "Jao... I think that's..." She moved her foot again so he can be at her level. "Is that fire nation?" She asked, looking over at him, her brown eyes wide with worry.

Streams of fire and fireballs coming from more soldiers coming in with dark red and black armour answered her question. A chill came Yao 's spine as he saw the fire struck the running Earth soldiers, some dodged while others weren't so lucky. "We need... We need to warn the village."He managed to say before he forced his quivering legs to run, staff at hand and ready.

"Can't you wait until I land us?!" She yelled, landing the rocks before taking off. "Stay out of trouble! I'm going to warn our families." She yelled out taking off to the houses. She ran to tell the Jang before running off to go tell her family. Her grandfather followed her to the village. What little earth benders they had protected the area. Era looked around, "Jao!" She called out. She was running, throwing rocks where she could at fire benders. "Jao!"

(I am sorry but my staff guy is Yao not jao, my other guys name starts with a J. Than again a failed to notice your character raised mine on rocks.)

Yao run as fast as could barely hearing Era in the excitement, though he was relieved to see her warning their families soon thanks to her bending. However the relief was short lived and the first fireballs struck the village and he came face to face with the first fire nation soldier.

Yao was visibly shaking at the sight of the soldier with a sword, as he held Sticky defensively unsure on to do. The soldier charged at Yao, who began to panic. The soldier sliced vertically and to Yao surprise, Yao side stepped by instinct avoiding the attack. Now at his opponent side, yao swang sticky down at the soldiers head knocking him out.

"Wow..." Yao said in surprised never expecting his play fighting would be of use. Again the feeling was short lived as another soldier attacked, Yao found himself blocking before sweeping the soldier of his feet before facings his next opponent. This one though leaped at Yao with his hands wrapped in fire prepared to struck Yao down. Yao went to block but the soldier fire hands struck at Sticky hard and breaking it in half. Stunned Yao was left open from a kick from the fire bender hurling to the ground and at the fire benders mercy.

(G.T.G leaving it on a cliffhanger! >:-)

(You been putting Jao, sorry.)

Era caught sight of her friend, when she seen the fire bender go to kick a big rock swung at him. She looked down to see her feet land to the ground, she was the one that hit the man with a rock. She watched him spiral to the ground. She blinked before running to Yao. "Who's the one saving who?" She looked over to her grandfather telling them to take everyone they.could through the cliff. "Come on, there is a shipping town through the cliff. We can get these people out of here."

"They broke Sticky... They broke Sticky." He said getting up still in a stunned state from shock from his staff breaking and to a lesser extend his near death. This state changed quickly when he saw another fire bender sent a fire ball in their direction, Yao quickly grabbed Era and tackled her to get them both out of the fireball path." I think right now, i am saving you."He said finally before helping her up."Ok lets go."

Era shouldered him off slightly, so not to hurt him, before he helped her up. She kicked her feet, sending two rocks at two fire benders before she ran with Yao, calling for the people she could to head to the cliff. She ran into a home, where she heard crying, and grabbed a little girl and hand her off to her mother so they can run. "Everyone hurry." She looked around, "Yao, that everyone?"

Yao tried to some rescuing of her own, helping an old man who had tripped over during the evacuation and could get up. He dodged a few fire benders to do so, eventually reuniting the old man with his wife. He could help feel some heart warming and feel him with a little hope before running to rejoin the other as the rushed to the hill. He looked around the village they were leaving behind when Era asked him if everyone was here."Everyone we can help." He said simply.

Era nodded, running as quickly as she could to the cliff, making it split just like before. "Hurry, everyone get through." Once everyone got through she closed the front of the cliff. "There is a shipping town just through here. Everyone go and hurry."

Nearing the town it was clear people there were already on the process of evacuations towards the towns port with a small militia to protect them. A few ships were offering passage to ports away from the front and close to Ba Sing Sae. A couple were earth kingdom military while the rest were private hire and most filled to the brim.

"Oh joy, looks like we need to hire a boat as well. You know this will be expensive." Yao said." Come on everyone empty your pocket, lets see what we have."People were were less then forth coming, though that did didn't have much.

Once everyone left the cliff she closed it up, "Yao, we can get to safety on our own. Lets worry about them getting on a boat then we can head our own way out." There was no way everyone could fit, they needed to worry about the women, children, and elderly first. The men could just wait and work on the boats to get on there way through. She pulled out her money and gave it to one of the elders.

"Thank you."

"No problem, you guys need it more."
