Fantasy Avalon - OOC

Well, the only way my character can be shifted to be at base skill level would be to shift his entire history, or make him much younger and not give him the chance to gain the experience. I'm not willing to do either, as the former makes him a completely different character, and the latter would make him the grunt of any team.

Guess that means I'll have to rescind my application. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the RP.

Hate to see you go before we even started, but hope we meet again.

Yeah I'm gonna try to go to a grad school after I finish. Surprisingly I'm studying psychology. I have three other roommates and we all share a kind of expensive apartment. What part of Utah do you live?
I live kinda near skyline highschool, idk what this area is called haha

Oh cool. I went to Cottonwood before college, I graduated a year early not because my grades were super good, but because I studied about five different languages and in junior high I took both Chinese and Spanish classes.

So how's gap year going?

I'm not in my gap year yet, I was just saying that i'm going to apply to the U after it haha, I'm going to be a senior next year

It wouldn't be fair to the others to allow you to have a character that far exceeds the limits I have placed in order to provide everyone equal footing. That being said, I do not see how nerfing him would make him the grunt of any team just because he doesn't use magic. I think a character that abhor's magic would be fun.

I love psychology. I took a few courses and surprisingly if you think about it a little creatively, conditioning is probably the closest thing to mind control. Unless...
TELL ME ABOUT NEUROLINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING!

Never had the senior experience, so don't any good advice from me.
I could have graduated early this year, but I wanted to be a senior and graduate with my friends. I honestly think it will be so fun! Plus, now that I've taken a few extra art classes to fill my schedule, I will graduate with a cord.

NLP is possibly the creepiest thing I have learned about and thank god it's been discredited by the scientific community. I was about to fear for the world's end.

The reason I see him being a grunt is because he holds no magic capabilities whatsoever, and assuming that nerfing him would take away his armor, he won't have any viable protection over basic conjuration either. A fireball? A bolt of lightning? He would be out in a few seconds.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why he won't be accepted, but I didn't see an option that I would be happy giving my character. Making a vanilla soldier would be plain, and abhorring magic would go against the optimistic mindset I had in place for him. I planned on him being a true knight, with positive qualities.

I mean, he could still have one of his swords. So he wouldn't exactly be complete without a defense.

Besides, would you even need it? None of the other characters have any kind of defense against magic, and only of them has an offensive spell. And there's even one without any magic at all, if I recall correctly.

He doesn't have to be vanilla, it's still fantasy. You can still come up with one solid ability he might have as a knight. Plus he could train with Gottfried, who (keep it on the downlow, just giving away one of the trainers here, even if it was obvious) is at the moment the highest ranking trainer for any of the available classes in Avalon so early on a knight would have the highest growth potential. One ability I was thinking of (at least for an anti-mage sorta character though it doesn't have to be abhoring magic), would be an ability that allows one to cut through magical attacks. I'm not sure what you would call it, so let's call it feedback for now but it seems simple enough, your character could cut through a magical attack, yet still be vulnerable to one if he was off guard or not paying attention, and up close if he could get a strike on a magic caster it would probably hurt a lot more than a normal slash considering they are like fat sacks of magical energy to cut.

On top of it, a reminder to all is that this rp is supposed to feature combat. It is not combat centric. There's a crude economic system, many people to socialize with. You don't have to be an overwhelming beast of a person. You can y'know, chill, talk with people, maybe start up a business. There's much more to it than just fighting. Even the strongest of knights aren't fighting 24/7. Gottfried has a wife to come home to. XD

WHATTT you all actually learned about it? we never got taught NLP but I bought a book about it, by one of the original authors, I think John bandler or something like that, can't be bothered to look up how to actually spell his name but it was interesting. I know it's poppycock but still interesting.

I had a really chill teacher in high school and we spent the last few days just talking about stuff, NLP was one of the stuff.

By the way, how do you all feel about hunger? Do you think characters should need to eat something everyday? Or should food be used for something else like healing? Idk. Food will be pretty cheap, I'm working on a merchant table for food and it'll look something like this. Markup will be the price merchant's sell it at.

You'll all quickly make much more than you have, the pocket change you all have should suffice for feeding yourselves for a week and for the ones that have 600+ maybe even afford an item or two as well. It all depends on your professions of course and how successful you are. In any case I won't starve you guys haha, just thought it would be an interesting story point if anyone actually couldn't afford food and was wandering around the streets begging for scraps of bread.

We could use health potions or scrappy first aid to regenerate health, I think it'd be pretty cool if we added a hunger system to make it a bit more realistic. Just my opi though, anything is fine.

Quick question, how are our characters going to learn new abilities? Will we just go to a trainer and pay some money for them to teach us, or will we have to "level up" or something like that first?
By the way, how do you all feel about hunger? Do you think characters should need to eat something everyday?
Yeah, that could really fun.

Also, are you going to make our characters drink something every day too?

Really the only reason I have the zweihander on him is because of style points. What knight character is complete without a giant sword they can wield while almost defying logic? I can actually omit that, if that's an issue.

Aight, I'm actually attempting to not be hard-headed and work through this, so help me out.

Well I know the RP isn't combat-centric, which is why I assumed his experience wouldn't be a large issue.

What if I were to omit the armor enchantment that nullifies magic? Making him completely susceptible to magic, unless he can parry it away with his sword. The curse I have in place is what made the armor affordable in the first place. What if I were to make the violent tendencies gained from it more often, but also be temporary rather than permanent.

He was so cool. We had to start a cannibalism counter just because we talked about it so much, our high score was 13 times in a week.
That's unbelievable! He's one of those guys that just looks up all those cannibalism stories eh?

Glad you all approve of the hunger system. I don't think I'll put in thirst, maybe in the future, it's too much to handle at the moment hahaha, they don't have water bottles! Maybe jugs of water? or everyone just suffices off of alcohol? XD

I'll have to think about that one a bit more.

It's still an issue because it would be unfair to everyone else. Beginner 'level' characters leave room to grow, experience and be shaped by the world rather than plop a fully developed character that merely interacts with it.

You can change the magic reflection to be a technique of sorts he can use regardless of the weapon he is wielding. The armour in its entirety will have to go. Please choose one weapon without extra abilities. Keep one proficiency, not both. He can keep the farming knowledge I don't mind that.

The only qualms I have on keeping him proficient in only one is that he won't even be a knight at that point. He would just a swordsman. I would agree to removing one, if it weren't for that.

And I don't know how bringing it up will help my situation at all, but he is a cavalryman. If his profession and picuture didn't give that much away, I'm not sure what you want to do with that.

Then how about changing the bow proficiency to horse riding proficiency? Most people would just fall off a horse, you have to learn that stuff. Plus it would fit the knightly image better, bow's make me think of samurai more than a fantasy medieval knight sorta thing. If you still want bow proficiency as well you could always find an archer trainer in the town to teach you some bow skills.

Alright. So here's the changes I'll have in place once I get home:

- Bow Efficiency will be altered to Horse Riding Proficiency
- Armor will be omitted. However, would you be opposed to making it an acquired item later in the story? He has little magic resistance, and I do want to give him some sort of resiliance to it
- His two swords, did you have any problems on that? I know Colgate Colgate said he wanted me to switch it to just one, but to me the zweihander is for style and perhaps only very difficult battles. (Like if they were to fight that dragon mentioned earlier)
- Age will be shifted to 18, as I do not see 21 as a proper age for him anymore
- Possible drastic change to History. Omitting his inspiration of following his father's footsteps, instead some other plot device being discussed in a private chat.

Did I miss anything?
