Luna is still anxiously waiting to see how badly she toasts the two minotaurs.

And I'm afraid she'll have to wait until tomorrow, perhaps. I'm really bushed from work! =)

Suffice to say that there is more to write than the toasting (though I'm looking forward to that part)...

O.K. Hold on to your hats, Wayfarers, because here it comes (in the story)...

@Captain Hesperus Hey, Cap'n! Here are two words I bet you didn't see coming during a hand-to-hand fight with a minotaur! Reflex save!

Please roll a Reflex Saving Throw for Otiorin, here. Thanks, you. =)

@All I recommend folks read the latest story post prior to reading this.

@All If your character possesses Knowledge: Nature (ranks, not total, 1-4), please roll that here (I can give you the Difficulty Class for this - match or beat a 15). If you have Knowledge: Nature (5 ranks or higher) or if you are a ranger (arf, arf!), your character has learned this in her or his studies and need not roll.

Success means your character knows the following:

Skaagenrackner (pronounced "SKAH-gann-rock-nur") is a living legend of the forest. As an Elder Earth Elemental, "he" has existed in the world as far back as anyone (including the elves) can remember. In game terms, your character knows Skaagenrackner is a 16th-level party-killer. His fists have been the last thing many, many an evil creatures has ever seen. This is not to say he is good-aligned - he is not - it is said he lives only to help the forest and all worthy things that love the wood (think J.R.R. Tolkien's ents).

("I am not altogether on anybody's side, because nobody is altogether on my side..." - Treebeard)

It now becomes clear to Leonard Wolf (only!) that Skaagenrackner must be the reason Vardadraug led Wolf here - to wake the "Olde Stone" and introduce Wolf to whatever trial Vardadraug had in mind. Such trials are very much the kind of thing Skaagenrackner likes to be a part of. There are tales of the Elder Elemental taking part in druidic rituals, forest-plantings, seasonal festivals, and even child-births.

Skaagenrackner is normally a deep root of ancient wisdom. He sleeps a lot and is known to only travel in the forest, teaching to those who will listen. He is generous when given sufficient reason, loyal to a fault, and gentle to all things that do not mean other things harm. He is a true ally of Mielikki (also called Ehlonna by the Elves), the Goddess of the Forest and stories tell that she holds him dear to her heart.

However, Skaagenrackner's wrath is a terrible thing to behold. He is very much like a cranky old man who can go totally berserk when the things he loves are threatened. It is said that when he stops talking and starts roaring, it is because he is too busy "speaking" the language of combat to articulate anything else. Druids and Rangers say the trick is to keep him talking (lest his emotion overcome his reason).

This does not mean you have to do whatever he says! On the contrary, under normal circumstances, he is reasonable. Just keep in mind - he probably just woke up to see his beloved forest in flames.

Forgive him if he is a little cranky... =)

Oh, dear. I think that Luna may be in trouble. She has two ranks in Knowledge: Nature, here is her roll to see if she can identify Ol' Stony.

Good roll, Sherwood! Enjoy the benefits of it. =)

And yes, I think Luna's in trouble too. Thankfully, she's not without her fellow Wanderers. =)

Reflex save vs humongous elemental:

These dice....

Captain Hesperus

Nice reflexes, :captain:

So, where was I... oh yes.

I'll have to think this one through, for a change. Fortunately, I'm the last name on Skaagenrackner's murder list so I can afford to (^.^)

Otiorin is currently face-down, ass-up in the leaf mould, wondering "All those goddamn pancakes I could still be eating. With sweet tea. And possibly crumpets."

Captain Hesperus

Yeah, when Skaagenrackner discovers that there is a fire mage with you, I don't know who he'll want to squish first; me for starting the fire, or you, for saying that the person responsible is already dead.

@Dannigan, can the Ray of Frost cantrip be useful in stopping a fire? Other than using a part of my robes to beat the flames, that's about all I got.

Obvious way of not revealing yourself as a fire mage: don't immolate anything.

Also, leave the out-and-out lying to the guy with six ranks in Bluff.

Captain Hesperus

HAHAAHAhAHA!!

I have repeatedly laughed out loud at this thread. This is hilarious! Hats off to Wolf and that Boromir pic with the cave troll! Oh, that's so funny! Ha ha! I am wiping tears from my eyes. What terrific stuff to wake up to! =)

Oh... Hah! @Sherwood Re: Ray of Frost. Being that it's only a cantrip, I'll say it will help to put out one of the twenty-four squares on the battle-board (or 5 feet out of the 120 foot line of flame). Rays are like Star Trek hand-held phaser blasts - they're bitty, but they're pinpoint accurate. Um, get those robes and your drinking water ready?

In other news, as Luna is peeing herself, she feels a warm trickle down her shoulder and back. It's dragon-pee. Then Luna hears this in her mind. I never thought I would go out this way... Wait! I don't have to! I have WINGS! 8D *flap flap flap* "You're on your own, dudes!" (Ha ha ha!)

The good thing about the cantrips is that they don't run out. So, I can cast it on every action to help quench the flames, and hopefully garner some good will with ol' stony.

Make out that you're an ice Mage and your usual clothes are in the wash. You normally dress like Elsa....

Captain Hesperus

Hope to post more after work. Have a good day, friends! =)

A wild FOREST FIRE appeared!

Enemy FOREST FIRE used Ignite!

Enemy FOREST FIRE is getting buffed...

LUNA used [REDACTED]! It's not very effective...

KITRIN used Shield Bash! It's not very effective...

WOLF used Rapid Stomp! It's not very effective...

OTIORIN used Rain Dance! It's not very effective...

BRIA used Pray! It's not very effective...

In short I'm hoping that the earth elemental has some tricks up his sleeve, because even if our highly crude, unsophisticated, inadequate, lowly, pathetic, ineffective, paltry, trivial methods could do some good, we are simply not the few hundred people that would be required to douse this fire in such manner ( O.o )

Dan-McFluffyness, please note the latest post. I was trying to convey that Bronze is so focused on the work that he won't notice much unless it's like WHAM POW BLAMMO! heh heh. Also this gives ya some room to work with the passage of time. oh and one sec....

FLASH! (Sighting down a x40 power sniper scope with range-finding lasers, nightvision, and IR) Yeah just sit there... WHAM! Suddenly a fluffy pillow flashes through the forest and hits (Rolls some real dice) WOLF right in the NOZE! (Yes I know it's spelled nose but NOZE looks cuter) WHAPT! (Feathers everywhere) Silly moment done. Oh and Cap... (WHAPT!) heh heh

Nicely written, Killfire! =)

I hope to post tonight after work. Until then, have a good day, friends! =)

Re: Reflex saving throw for the Bloodland Minotaur archer, Otiorin, and Powerpaw. I thought, if anyone was going to make that save, it would be Otiorin, but no - the dice of our good Cap'n have been most-darkly ganked!

Not as badly ganked as the Bloodland Minotaur with the great-axe... but still ganked!

Just sayin'. =)

This one's for Otiorin and Powerpaw. Hee hee! =)
