Powerpaw sez, "Ooh! I see some of us are moving on to the looting, but I think I should stay put until the Wolf/Ranthorn situation is resolved *woof*

No worries, while Oti is interested in what's happening between Wolf and Ranthorn, he's not going to shoehorn his way into the scene and I wanted to post something more substantive than "Otiorin stood and watched".

Captain Hesperus

Noted, Captain, but what really prompted me to say that was that Dann's latest post only included the looting part and no update for Wolf.

Not that I feel forgotten, but just thought to point it out, even if unnecessary *woof*

Last night's posts was really just an attempt to squeeze in a "Talk Like A Pirate" joke prior to my going to bed.  =)  Now that I'm up and rested, I can get to more serious roleplaying.  Incoming post!  =)

Like Otiorin, Powerpaw (and Sabrefang) are wanting to do something else (anything else) besides intrude on what is clearly a delicate family matter.

On another note, being in Ranthorn's mind is proving more difficult than I imagined.  He's...  a wild and powerful person in the middle of some serious turmoil here.  As you guys know, there is only so much "serious" I can take before making a joke of some kind.  If I don't start saying something silly, I'll start to get too serious, and that's not what roleplaying is about for me.  Let's see how it goes since I've had some sleep between now and then.  I need to "hear" Ranthorn "talking" to me whether he "wants" to or not.  =)

@Captain Hesperus Thanks for the like on Nivirea's thread, you!

Folks, I'm attempting to work on making all of my posts in past-tense, but I've been posting so long in present that I see I'm screwing it up.  The in-character Chapter Eight post is in present tense, yet the post in Nivirea's prologue is past (as I didn't notice it until I was done; in fact, Cap'n's like came in as I was editing, so now I think it's fixed).

My pardon for any confusion; this breaking and changing of habits might take awhile.  It also doesn't help that I've been posting and posting without having had breakfast.  I'm going to go remedy that now.  Heh!   =)

This is pretty good stuff, Cap'n!  Thanks for sharing this.  =)

It's probably not a surprise that I know this, right? (alongside the majority of search results like "wolf music" xo xo) :D

Thanks for posting it Cap'n. I like it a lot ^^ *woof*

And Dann, I know what you mean. I keep trying to post in the past tense, as is proper (well, traditional and usually more proper versus the heavily abused present tense these days), but you guys keep throwing me off all the time. Have to make lots of corrections...

Hey, folks!  While finding pictures for Robotech: Broadsword, I came across this one.  It really made me think of Luna!  =)

I have that in my Shirow collection of pics.  It was one of the short list for Luna when I posted her.

For about ten long seconds I was puzzled at how googling "broadsword" could turn up that image, until I re-read the sentence a few more times (>.<)

Just one of your many nice ladies, eh Sherwood? :3

Oh, I wasn't Googling "broadsword," good Wolf.  I was just hunting for images (non-photos) in general.  =)

I'm giving Sherwood and Cap'n the chance to post again before I go at it.  I'll give it a day or two (Cap'n may be busy in Real Life).  =)

Fine by me.

And the thing is, in what you typed I saw something like this: "While finding pictures for search term 'broadsword' I came across this one."

lol *woof*

Ah!  I see what you mean now, Wolf.  Hah!  =)

Not something I've ever heard of, but this guy's 'Contact Sword' skills make me wonder if this is some form of Ko or battle mage fighting form:

And, for a Star Wars take:

Captain Hesperus

Sherwood sez, Luna frowns. "This is distributing."

I'm pretty sure he meant "disturbing."  Because the idea of Luna distributing a bunch of armored ogre corpses among the Wayfaring Wanderers makes me wonder what she's really up to.  =)

To which I must add...

-Sherwood.  If it made you smile or laugh, then my message succeeded.  =)

Not something I've ever heard of, but this guy's 'Contact Sword' skills make me wonder if this is some form of Ko or battle mage fighting form:

Speaking from the Ko perspective, these would not be "battle forms" at all.  Ko don't practice static, unchanging forms (katas, poomses, etc.).  Instead, Ko have a firm divide over combat techniques (techniques meant to harm, disable, or kill) and "exhibition" techniques (techniques done for the pleasure of it, to please an audience or oneself, or both).  Both are practiced for the love and sake of developing skill.  Or put another way, all this time and effort is put into skill for the sake of skill.  Hard work often provides excellence in skill.

Ko monks are like old, old, old descendants of Jeet Kune Do martial artists (Bruce Lee's "Way of the Intercepting Fist").  Like... imagine those who kept JKD alive after Lee's death.  They would be considered, say, "second generation" Jeet Kune Do artists.  Now, imagine such a people in a magical world about, say, ten generations on.  Add to the idea that martial arts is their way of life, and their parents, and grandparents, and so on.  That's part of Ko.

As for the difference between combat and exhibition, I recommend this short video on Kendo (Japanese "Way of the Sword").  These techniques are killing techniques.  Unlike the beautiful, flashy, graceful videos meant to entertain, Kendo is one path on the road of Death.  It is not slow and easy to watch.  You can stare at the entire fight, not blinking, and still miss the blow that ended the fight.  That is because the hand is faster than the eye.  When you watch this video, imagine these martial artists not with Shinai in their hands (bamboo practice swords) but instead with katanas (three foot masterfully-forged swords sharper than the razor you use).

Ask yourself -

1. If your life were in danger, or your wife/husband's, your friend, even a stranger's whom you wished to protect...

2. If your opponent were committed to harming that person...

3. If there were no way to talk them out of it, intimidate them, or otherwise dissuade your opponent...

...which would be more likely to end the conflict?  The exhibition techniques?  The combat techniques?   Which would you depend upon to defend something you loved?  Your answer will show to you your understanding of the spirit of martial arts.

Heya folks!  Kaerri and I are preparing for Hurricane Matthew.  If we disappear for a time, that's why!  If you're the praying kind, please do pray for all folks affected.  =)

Honor and fun,

Us.  =)

Like I said, I would totally dismiss this overgrown storm but I am powerless in this dimension :C

Godspeed, good souls *howl*

Update!

The worst has passed us, now we're just waiting for the outer bands to follow. No power (I'm on my tablet, we do have cell coverage still), and the yard's a mess, but we're otherwise fine.

(Some of you may get this multiple times as I copy/paste to different RPs.)

Thank god you came through okay. Temporary loss of power and some yardwork is a reasonable outcome from the Skullnado.
