Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

Jack rushed out the door and ripped Roan's open right as the man's exclamation of confusion reached the girls.

"Oh, finally!", Anna had about reached the end of her patience. she'd put down a target dummy but you could only shoot the same thing so many times before you were basically taking it apart every attack. "Vera, the guys are up!"

"What? What? What is it?" Roan replied as he stood. His hands still ached.

"I hear them," Vera called, returning to the fort.

Anna started climbing the ladder, making her way up to Roan's room. "How's your hands?", she ran back downstairs when she saw Roan's hands were still pretty bad. She came back up with some kind of plant in her hands, "This is a succulent, cut it open and rub the insides on your blisters, it should help."

"Where did you get that?"

"I found it growing under a tree, burned my finger making Sparkpowder earlier," Anna shrugged and tossed the plant to Roan.

Roan took the plant and began fixing up his hands, "Will it work for injuries caused by them being rubbed raw though? And why were you yelling, Jack?"

"Blister's a blister," Anna shrugged and leaned on the doorframe.

"Why didn't anyone wake us?" Jack had gotten used to the implants waking him up at dawn with engrams, but that hadn't happened today for any of them, and with closed windows the sun hadn't woken anyone.

Vera shrugged, "We figured you could use the rest. You've been working hard. I decided we could use a day to rest."

"Well, thank you, I suppose," Roan replied, "I guess we did kind of need it."

"A day?", Jack facepalmed, "Who's been feeding the parasaurs?"

"We fed the dinosaurs," Anna rolled her eyes, "And we saw your handiwork from last night." she held up her crossbow, "Nice job."

"Don't worry, Relax," Vera laughed, "We are capable."

"So a day of rest?" Roan said to himself mostly.

Jack sat down in Roan's chair, "You guys are gonna give me a heart attack doing this one day." He shook his head as Anna giggled.

"Look, I don't like it either, but Vera insised," Anna rolled her eyes, "If you're that bored the metal's all smelted, so you can spend the day making stuff instead."

Vera giggled, "What did you think happened?"

Roan nodded, "Good idea."

"I dunno, maybe the raptors?", Jack shook his head, "I don't know what those things can traverse and break through!"

Anna shook her head, "Well, whenever you boys finish waking up and complaining," she gestured to the camp, "Stuff's waiting for you." She ducked out the door and made her way downstairs.

Jack yawned again, "Yeah, Roan, I made some crossbows and pikes for everyone, and a box full of both arrow types last night."

"Oh, sweet. You really got to work, huh?" Roan chuckled, "It'll be a lot easier to tame with the tranq arrows. And defend in general with the crossbows and pikes. I was planning to make them anyway. You beat me to it. I wanted to make everyone picks and hatchets."

"Oh, like metal ones?" Vera asked.

Jack nodded, "I saw the recipe in my engrams, but I didn't know if I'd need the points for something else." He stood up and stretched, "I'm gonna go make some stimulant, finish getting woken up, the forges are almost full of processed metal."

"I got the engrams, so don't worry about that. I'll make everyone the better tools when I come down," He replied, "I'm gonna eat something first."

Jack nodded and started downstairs to the work area, taking his new weapons and ammo. "Be careful with the arrows," he explained, "I pricked my finger on a tranq one and i knocked me on my ass."

Vera giggled hearing Jack's recollection of the tranq arrows, following him, "How'd you manage that?"

Roan stretched, letting himself wake up before he moved to make himself food, he called to Anna, "Hows the raptors?"

"Sharp piece of flint," Jack shrugged, "Just be careful with them." He checked his pike again, making sure they hadn't warped in the night, before putting that away as well. "I'm gonna go see about getting some more meat, you want to come?"

"Occissor and Thunder've been eyeing Cherry and Gaia, Cicero's doing alright," Anna called back, "Everyone seems pretty alright." As much as she hated to admit it, Jack had something right with the raptor stables, they took up less space while simulaneously having more, and were still able to socialize.

"Sure," Vera chirped, getting her pike out, "I was fishing for a bit, or more.. spearing.. fish... I have fish meat cooking. "

"What do you mean, eyeing them?" Roan asked as he ate finally.

Jack nodded, going to get Hardhead out of the paddock. "We'll need meat to rot in order to make narcotics, good for keeping tames unconscious while we get things together." He didn't want to rot their food, but he'd gone through almost all the raw meat last night, so they needed more raw meat to continue what they were doing.

"I mean they've been looking at each other through their stall windows and they have heart shapes over their heads," Anna explained, "Says something about 'Mate Boosted'."

"Fair point, should I get my raptor? It would get a lot of meat pretty fast I would think," Vera asked, "Could be useful."

Roan thought for a moment before grinning, "Baby raptors.."

Jack shook his head, "We're not hunting trikes, just dodos." He whistled for Lil' Chicken to come join them and reached down to offer Vera a ride on Hardhead.

Anna nodded, "Maybe." She blew a kiss at the raptors and made her way back upstairs to the watchtower.

Vera shrugged, taking his hand and climbing onto Hard-headed, "Ok, sounds good to me."

Roan chuckled, "An even bigger raptor army. Jack would have a heart attack. "

Saddled up, Jack nudged Hardhead to the gate and pushed it open so the parasaur could get out, and then getting off of Hardhead to go close it behind them. He didn't want to let anything in while they were gone. The beach seemed mostly clear of dodos, so they went further inland to pursue prey there.

------------

Anna grinned at that, "Think we should, then?" Messing with Jack was something she could get behind.

Vera watched around, looking for small creatures to kill for their meat, "Over there's a few dilos."

------------
"Lets start with one," Roan replied with a chuckle.

That was good, something with meat on its bones. Jack got off of Hardhead and drew his crossbow, loading an arrow before offering Vera help down. Hopefully they'd have enough meat to weigh Hardhead down, which would last them a while. "You take the one ones on the left, I'll take the ones on the right," he offered.

-----------
Anna grinned from her spot on the watchtower. The might not be able to feed that many carnivores without actively using them to hunt, so just one to see would be a good idea. Berries were easy, the parasaurs collected them easily and they had a huge surplus from their fiber-collecting forages. The raptors were pretty efficient at gathering meat, too, but no doubt Jack would have an aneurysm if they let the beasts loose to hunt, even if they came back overencumbered with meat and hides.
