In the meantime, do you mind if I ask a few stupid questions about shields so I don't mess it up later? I haven't been in many situations where they were relevant for me yet, so I'm a bit fuzzy, sorry.

Do I start combat with my shield equipped/unequipped by default or my choice? And do I read "you need a free hand to load a one-handed weapon" right that I can't wear my shield while using my sling?

Dawning and offting shields is a free action, so it matters not. And it's up to you if you want to start with it or not

maybe (I'm sorry if it's annoying or anything, suggesting) you could have something like.. everyone has to make at least one post or drop in before skips or large events unless they say they'll be absent?

Possibly, but I don't want to rush people. Especially since there may be days where they might not be able to post at all.
