I suppose they might, if they anticipated someone using poison gas on them ahead of time. If no one had used such a weapon before, though, I doubt they would have.

Yeah, the orcs have lived underground for much of their existence, right? They probably have higher tolerance for environmental hazards than other races. What if they invented a poison gas that effected other races without that higher tolerance and then rigged their entire labyrinth so they could flood it with the gas whenever they wanted? They could repel any invading force without having to do any fighting at all if they did something clever like that.
