Across the Tracks, Right?

He frowned. "Don't talk like that." He snapped, pacing in thought. So...she liked him. However she didn't...love...him. "Yes, I can work with that." He said aloud, looking over to her and smiling before blinking and looking away. Did he like her then? He snuck another glance at her before shrugging and coughing lightly. "Stop talking so...negative. Okay?" He asked, making a peace sign at her and smiling cheesily before glancing at the clock in his room.

Dinner, he had to go to that for now.

Jamie flinched as he snapped at her. She didn't know what he was talking about and it worried her. She held the pillow tighter and looked up at him. "Quin, what are you talking about?" She asked. "I-I don't understand what's happening..."

She noticed him looking at the clock. "Please explain before you go to dinner. Please."

(Apologies for the short replies - have been replying from my phone. Was on a train.)

Quin blinked and frowned. "Am I frightening you?" He asked slowing down before moving in front of her, staring at her intensely before smiling uncertainly. "Sorry I must have given you quite a shock, suddenly talking like that. I was just thinking...that maybe...maybe its okay if I fall in love with you."

Was that good enough for him to say? "It might take a bit though and I'm still sorting out my feelings, I don't want you talking yourself down anymore unless its life or death. Okay?"

Jamie recoiled as he stared down at her, meeting his stare with uncertain eyes. She didn't know what she was meant to be doing. It didn't make sense. He wasn't making any sense. As he spoke again, she turned bright red. "You... You think it's okay if you fall in love with me?" She asked quietly, her voice cracking slightly. "I... You... What?" She stared back at him.

"Okay." She agreed as he told her to not talk herself down. She stifled a yawn, worn out from too many emotions in one day. "Y-you have to go eat with your parents. Can I maybe sleep on your bed while you're gone?"

He nodded, looking at his feet before moving to the door. "I promise to tell you about it...in a while. I promise." He said, ooening the door and walking out and moving down the stairs. This was for the city. If he could do this, maybe he could get everything as he dreamed it would be.

When he finally reached the dining room, he put on his usual attitude, finding it much easier to do then before. He would promtly apologise with Jamie later. He would solve all of this, and there would be no problem.

Jamie managed a small smile, "Have fun." She told him, laying down with her head on the pillow and closing her eyes. It felt good to lay down in a bed. It felt good to be by herself.

Quin's father smiled as he entered the room, "ah, son. Lovely to have you with us! Your mother is delayed and will be home later. But that means we can speak frankly." He looked at his son curiously. "Did you remove the spells from the girl?"

Quin sat down and nodded. "Yes father, after scoulding her. I have to apologise that I cohldnt control her better.I still have much to learn." He closed his eyes before taking a breath. "It was inapropriate to leave her without teaching her more. I will have to bring her to apologise to you...so she can learn that its not permitted to do such things." He was going to keep this simple.

He looked to his mothers place before frowning and looking back to his father, remembering something else. "Also, the window needs to be repaired...I lost my temper and cracked it. I'll have to tell mother and apologise since she...dislikes it when things aren't in order.."

"You haven't broken a window for years, Quin. Are you certain you can control both yourself and this girl? We can add her to the household servants if you need us to. There's no shortage of work around here." He raised an eyebrow, meeting Quin's gaze. "But then again..." He smiled as he seemed to remember something.

"I won't tell you what I did with the first one I found. Let's just say that she was a very willing participant in some bedroom fun."

Quin glanced to the side feeling his face heat up slightly. "Father please, I was only angry in your defense, I am certain I can prevent these things from happening in the future." He mumbled, "She can learn from the other servents when she isn't helping me." He certainly wasn't sure what his father was implying, or hinting at what he should do. No, he did...but he was far too... he closed his eyes.

"This will be my challenge and I will be willing to take it....and...I am not as experienced as you father....in...other things...so..yes. Thank you anyway?" He played with his silverware nervously. Feeling flustered.

His father nodded, "I'm just saying, son, that sometimes there are desires that are okay to fulfil. And you'll find these humans to be a willing participant." He smirked then laughed. "Onto more important things, though. Perhaps..." He rubbed his chin as he thought.

"Perhaps we should discuss the prospect of you one day leading. Son, are you interested in such a vocation?"

Quin looked up, glad that the other converaation was presumibly over. "Absolutely father, you should know its my dream to lead both sides. It would be a feat, wouldnt it?" His voice sounded excited and he forced himself to take breaths.

"Though of course, I would like any advice or insight from you father. Being that you are leader today."

His father shrugged. "I would not presume to tell you how to run a city. It's a job I learned slowly and it's a job you'll also learn slowly, but my boy, do be careful with your ambition. The other side of the city is full of secrets that are deeply shameful to them." He leaned back in his seat as a servant delivered food, beginning to eat quickly.

"Son, I've tried to have servants speak of these secrets but never once succeeded. Most of them refused to ever tell me and so I refused to let them speak. When you bring your human to apologise to me, she will tell me of a secret from her side, or I'll put a gagging spell on her that you will not be able to remove for at least a year."

"Yes father..." he started, picking up his fork and taking a bite of what he put on his plate. Listening carefully before dropping his fork. He swallowed and quickly.apologised.

"Father...she might not know anything." He mumbled, not being able to look his father inthe eye. For a year? A year was a very long time.

"Quin, she knows." His father told him sternly. "I am not a fool. I know who the girl is. I remember her from when she was a young girl and her father tried to negotiate peace with me." He sat back in his chair. "I would very gladly put a gagging spell on her though. She's got an uncanny ability to use colourful language."

He laughed and paused, looking at Quin. "But you want to treat her with dignity, don't you, son? You're optimistic that she will be good for you without you instilling fear. She's merely a pawn in this game."

Quin looked to his lap and carefully and moved out of his seat. "Father I....have some urgent business then." He went quiet for a minute before looking over to his father. "The peace treaty...what happened? You refused right?" He asked. "Or was the wall the solution to that?" He felt a bit unnerved and closed his eyes. "Actually I'll look it up. As I mentioned before I have some things to do. I'll return in a bit. Tell my mother I send apologies."

He quickly made his way out of the room before his father could say any more before moving to his room and staring at Jamie. "I'm sorry Jame. I so sorry."

Jamie was asleep on his bed, one pillow hugged tightly to her chest and the blanket pulled over her. She looked peaceful laying there, a small smile etched onto her lips.

As she heard Quin's voice she stirred and looked up at him, sitting up, still hugging the pillow. "What are you sorry about? I don't understand..."

"He already knew about you. Also...he's going to...he's going to gag you for a year if you don't tell him on of your sides secrets. I didn't tell himi swear, he brought it up himself....and I don't think...I can undo such a spell cast by my father."

He felt so horrible, and sick to his stomache. His headache coming back as he was feeling feverish again. The window cracked a bit more suddenly, making hm jump then take long deep breaths.

Jamie wanted to panic but she knew she couldn't. Her panic would only make Quin's worse, and then it would get harder for him. She took a deep breath to calm herself and then nodded. "Okay. I believe you. I'll... I'll think of a secret to tell him." She smiled faintly, shrugging. "It's okay. I don't think you told him."

She stood up and stretched, her eyes meeting Quin's, licking her lips without realising it as she remembered kissing him. "Relax, please..."

Quin shook and closed his eyes as he sat on the bed and laid back down. Wanting to just curl up and count his mistakes. He forced himself to take deep breaths and smiled. It was a wrecked smile and probably looked hideous.

"I'm sorry. I should have know that he would already know before me. I don't want you to go mute...." he wispered, moving up and and over in front of her. Leaning forward to place his face in his hand. "I just don't know what to do."

Jamie hesitated as he moved closer to her, stroking his cheek gently with her thumb. She leaned down a moment later and kissed his forehead tenderly. "Calm down, Quin. It's not your fault." She told him, her lips close to his as she spoke. "I'll tell him what he wants to know. I don't know any recent information, just past information, so I can't give away things that would damage my father."

She hesitated again, then planted another small kiss on his lips. "Are you okay?"

He could feel sparks light up inside his head as she kissed him again. He shook his head quietly telling himself he was fkne before saying out loud. "I'm fine, I'm fine." He chided, leaning forward before stopping, then looking down to his lap.

Was thijs really okay? He was wondering before he leaned forward again, kissing her much more brave then before. Her forehead was cold against his and it felt nice. His vision was a bit hazy so he closed his eyes. Wrapping his arms around her shoulders.

Jamie let him pull her a little closer to him, enjoying the contact between their lips, her hands running through his hair slowly as they kissed.

She pulled away eventually, smiling down at him. "I said I wouldn't kiss you, didn't i? Uh, sorry..."

Quin shook his head. "I don't care." He mumbled, keeping his arms where they were and leaning on her. His head was burning and he couldn't think at all. Everything was all muddled and he could feel himself sweating, since his clothes were sticking to his skin.

"L...let's go see father." He tried, kind of sitting up before just leaning on here again and closing his eyes since everything had gotten shaky.

Jamie shook her head, "you need to calm down first." She told him quietly, her hands gently rubbing his shoulders. "Just breathe, okay? And when you're feeling okay, we'll go talk to your dad..."

She sighed as she kept rubbing his shoulders, leaning back against the wall.
