News 5.0 - Style Update

Well, despite my selfish ramblings I do ultimately support the staff! Function always over form when a choice must be made.
 
I had to do a double take on this. Because when I first logged on, I thought I was on the wrong site, since i am used to 4.0. But this is Soooo much better.
 
I like the new aesthetics, though the richness of the colour does seen to make the site seem a bit too dark overall, perhaps just lighten the hue a wee bit?


In a performance aspect, Mobile version is top-notch, the little arrows at the side of the screen that are supposed to scroll you up and down the page now actually do so. The only feature I see missing (on mobile at least) is the ability to multi-quote. Am I somehow missing the button for it somewhere? It's a feature I use often for its convenience and would hate to see it left out due to oversight.


Otherwise, nice work, good clean feeling, like the site finally brushed its teeth in a while xD Good job, design and coding teams and whoever else put this together. :)

The Rich Text Editor will always attempt to help with the coding, there is no way around this, I apologise. But you can use the BBCode Editor, and won't add random unneeded code, it'll trust your judgement.
 
War never changes, but RPNation's style does.


In any case, it seems to me that people reject the change itself more than the changes. If that makes sense. To me this is a perfectly acceptable style. Nice and clean.
 
My first impression was: What happened to RPN?


I'm very impressed and pleased that the site loads much faster than before, but everything too dark and gives me more of a Facebook feel than a roleplay site. I liked being able to separate this website from my social media platforms in the way of appearance.


Also, everything feels smaller and there's too much empty space thanks to the white on white and the buttons and images being minimized. If everything was a tad bigger and the blue wasn't as dark I'd be fine. ^-^
 
I personally don't like the new shade of blue its too dark in my opinion.


I also don't like that it looks...cleaner now. I've never been a fan of major changes but this change makes the essence of the site feel like its changed too


it went from a bubbly innocent, fun and inviting feel to clean, uninviting, depressing and sleek. I don't use a mobile so I have no idea how that is.


Also did the font change? it's bothering my eyes >.< Maybe is it the colors? I don't know.


I didn't even realize the avatar size change.


Don't use a mobile so can't comment on that.


I know you guys worked hard which all of us appreciate but.... I agree with others

That isn't to say that the other roleplay sites are better than this one (now having experience, I think this is the best by far), but when you're searching in a sea of roleplaying forums, you want to look for the one that stands out the most. Many other rp sites were just like this one; they were very cramped, desaturated and seemed much more complicated than they actually were due to the tight layout. The RpN 4.0 layout was simple, easy to understand for newcomers and just gave off an overall friendly and happy feel to it.

Sorry afterall I do know you guys worked hard but I'm just not feeling this new layout and this font is really really bothering my eyes >.<
 
It's perfectly valid criticism that we'll take into consideration. : )
 
I like the new style actually even though I kinda miss the old logo.. It looks great on mobile as well :)

Well, now you KNOW I have never been a fan of change, but .....


The mobile does look a heck of a lot better.


The desktop version ... looks bare bone because of the white background. The white bleeds the rest out to make it look stark. Still, the colors aren't bad. (Is Mith really not complaining? Spoiler alert: the world is coming to an end. Watch out for falling sky.)


Fonts: I don't mind them, but I always prefer plain fonts. Besides, they are all a blur without my glasses ... and I'm not wearing them at the moment. (So if you see a lot of typos, you'll know why.)
 
I love how quick it loads now but it looks so much like sites I just look at once and move on for something more interesting. Its so cold a square instead of unique so I liked the old one better. I saw the logo and was all over this site right away
 
While I appreciate you guys trying to make the site's loading times faster, I can't think of anything I like about this new layout over the old one. You mentioned that it's 'The flattest design RpN has ever had'. That's the main problem I have with this design - It's too flat, too generic, and I just find it boring and difficult to focus on. I hope I'm not upsetting anyone by saying this, but I much prefer a stylized RpN over a faster RpN.
 
I greatly appreciate all of the work everybody put into it and I see where it can be of a great help for players,however I am just not a fan of it.There's just...too much going on.The simplistic feel of the last style was much better for mobile.I just don't know where to look with this one xD .
 
Oh,and an add on to my last post that I just discovered... It is a lot harder to get back to the home page with the banner being smaller. My fingers tend to miss where I want to touch/click/whatever it's called on mobile.

My feedback for this would be.... It's not bad, and yes, i am also going to comment on the colors, it's too dark hahahaha. Maybe just make those the same color as 4.0? or maybe somewhere in between?*honestly i dont have a problem with it but meh*


I was wondering though in the font for the RPNation at the top there could maybe be slightly different? it looks funny to me is all. If there is a reason if that cannot be changed then I would understand. Again, it just looks weird to me hahaha.

The search bar kinda blends/smurglfurs into your avatar on the main page and it doesn't look like that's where it belongs.Like it looks like the page hasn't finished loading because of that.

That's totally what it looks like!! It makes it looks like some website to a local police station....
