News 5.0 - Style Update

The only thing that makes me sad is the constriction of the avatars. I preferred the way the avatars flowed into the sidebar before. The darker blue also makes it look a bit gloomier, but this is a small thing. The site is still a fun place to be. Change is a strange thing. Is there any way to reduce the text size of posts?

[QUOTE="Lonely Star]I think we should be able to choose what version of the site we use on each device we use it on. I would definitely choose this version for mobile, but for my computer, I want the old version.

I support this sentiment. Really does look great on the phone though.

I love the update! Man, I have to play around with it don't it?

If you click on the logo, it'll take you back to the homepage.

I know now! I happened to acidentally click on it and I felt magical in that moment. Thanks though!

I like the new layout, although, I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of the colors or the fonts either. The old fonts were definitely something I was fond of as well as the lighter color scheme. The site always seemed...fun (for lack of a better word) and now it seems harsher and has a serious tone to it. Other than that, I like it. In a way it's more sleek and efficient than the last layout. :) I mean, I personally like sleek and efficient, but I'd be lying if I said that the bright, warm...inviting feel I got from the previous layout isn't what convinced me, as someone new to rping, to join this site as opposed to others that I looked into.

As others have said, it just feels a bit too... corporate. It feels kinda stifling and cold. Just a suggestion, maybe even just a mild rounding of some corners on the boxes would make it a tad more inviting, I feel like I could cut myself on them, and maybe like, one or two shades warmer on the theme color? I do like how fast it loads, it's very smooth.

It would get a bit crazy trying to maintain two different styles, unfortunately.

My two cents - I am content! I trust that appearances have not been forgotten and will be tweaked as time and resources permit, but even now I'm quite happy with the aesthetics. No, I don't think it's perfect, but it has its own appeal the same way 4.0 had its own appeal but was not perfect. I'm very pleased with loading times and very amused that some of the people who protested 4.0 so vehemently are also protesting 5.0 the same way.

Everyone is uncomfortable where change is involved, guys, but that's not a good reason to rag on something new. Just like you came to love 4.0 you'll come to love 5.0 - and 6.0, and so on. Don't cast negativity on something just because you're caught off guard. Constructive criticism is all well and good, but asking to go back to the old one or otherwise continuing to gripe even after you've said your piece is at best pretty thoughtless and at worst pretty rude. Let's see a bit less salt next time.

To run two styles means having two versions of the site running side-by-side. Currently we do not have the server space or the money to accommodate that.

I just got the idea from a site call Warrior Cats RPG or currently Feralfront they allow you to change the style and use older versions of the site. I love the idea and if RpN could get to a point where they could do something like that, I would be quite happy.

Really loving how the new version works on mobile. However. The alerts thing is a bit buggy, when I tap it it takes multiple taps to make it go away and sometimes doesn't got away at all. Other than that, I like it. +1.

Feralfont also appears to have a merch store and to restrict certain parts of the site to those who don't pay, in order to cover the cost of things like that. Personally, I like roleplaying for free.

Not sure if it's on purpose or not... but the top bar - where I can click on my profile detaily stuff -- I basically have... my image/avatar... a little person icon... AND my name. THAT... seems a bit redundant to me? And my name gets cut off anyway, so it's kinda pointless.<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_11/57a8c5dd2f1cc_2015-11-24(2).png.dcc5468eed55e887634e568750200868.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="87236" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_11/57a8c5dd2f1cc_2015-11-24(2).png.dcc5468eed55e887634e568750200868.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Everything looks great and it loads so much faster. I love the flat design and the darker blue is a lot easier on the eyes; I feel the blue was quite bright but the new colour looks sleek. Awesome job guys!

I'm liking it so far, very clean looking. Was a bit of a surprise to see when I logged in this morning. Hahaha

I will admit I kind of miss the option to navigate to certain posts on a page.

I much preferred the more homey-feel of the last layout. The colours just don't suit my tastes, maybe making them a lighter shades of blue would be better? Still loads fast though, very good.

Some suggestion from me~

  1. The search box position is awkward. I almost didn't find it it because it blends with the white background. Perhaps move it up so it's in line with the sub navbar.
  2. The shortened name makes it looks untidy. I suggest make the name full, also replace the tiny guy icon with user avatar because using both feels redundant.
  3. [QUOTE="King Of Imagination] Just a suggestion, maybe even just a mild rounding of some corners on the boxes would make it a tad more inviting

    I agree with this :P
  4. Font in navbar and buttons looks too thin. Maybe bolding it would make it better?

PS. I like the previous color scheme better, it looks more refreshing D: Overall, my opinion is similar to many others, it looks kinda bland on desktop but super sleek on mobile.

Mmm... The colors and font are kinda off-putting and the overall aesthetics of the site have gone from organized desktop site to mobile site...

I see no difference in loading times either, as I generally have little problem with the site loading at an ideal speed.

I just went to check a thread and it is, in fact, running slower than it typically does for me...

How does that even happen?

Hello, I'm back and this time on the computer site, and I only have one critique: Whoa so much white. It's really open and there aren't a lot of boxes which kinda throws me a little cuz I like organization but it's really pretty with the dark blue and the white so I don't know if I 100% love the desktop but I don't dislike it. ON mobile it slays and usually I'm on mobile so no big deal.

I've always been a fan of darker themes. So I pretty much made goo-goo eyes at this one.

So I guess I'm a bit on the middle ground here. I like this one, but prefer the old one. Or maybe it's just (autistic) me needing to get used to changes again.
Don't feel too bad, sometimes it is hard for us neurotypicals to accept change as it comes along. :)

Also, My Darlings, please do understand that the entire point of changing the site is to make things easier to use. It might not be as pretty as you like/prefer, but please understand that the entire intention is meant to make things easier on the users as well as the staff. I've not always liked changes in the past but, after a few days, you stop noticing them. :)

Those who work on it do it out of love and are thinking of you. Helpful suggestions on how it can be more user-friendly is great, telling us what you like is wonderful, asking to go back... not so much. And for those of you who have done that, you are a dear.

:)
