Your Guardian Angel

Penelope was so nervous. She knew that becoming a guardian angel was quite the honor. After all, she would be helping a human become a better person. That was no small task though. However, she wouldn't pass the opportunity to make someone's life better. She only hoped that she would do a good job. After all, she had died young. A young, 20 year old woman, a tragic car accident and all of a sudden Penelope found herself in heaven and in front of an angel. She had been told that due to the way she had died, and the general life she had lived, the girl had been chosen to become a guardian angel. It seemed like only few obtained that honor.

And so, she couldn't really deny the position. Within an Earth day of dying, Penelope was already making her way down to Earth and towards the house of her charge. The girl didn't really know what to expect. Just knew that his name and age. Didn't know much about his problems. She had just been told that despite whatever was happening in his life, Fredrick still had good in him. She just had to help him bring it out. Reassuring herself that was all she had to do, Penelope finally made it down to Earth, landing on the roof of the home. As graceful as she wished she could be, Penelope was still getting used to her wings, and so, landed on the roof with quite the thud.

Her long, brown hair danced in the wind as Penelope sat down on the roof, gathering up the courage to go into the home. As social as she had been in her previous life, Penelope was nervous she wouldn't be able to turn his guy's life around. Nonetheless, she had to try. And so, within a couple of minutes, the young angel stood up and closed her eyes. By the time she opened them, a white light surrounded Fredrick's room, making the angel visible once the light had faded away. And so, Penelope stood in front of Fredrick, her wings stretched fully and a smile in her face.

"My name is Penelope, and I'm your guardian angel, Fredrick."

Fredrick was alone in his home. Which was a small apartment on the top floor. He was sitting on his couch, doing his mornig dose of Heroine, same routine he's been doing for five years now.

He squinted his eyes as the bright light entered his apartment. After it faded he quickly pushed the needle in his arm with the heroine and he sighed in relief when he felt the drugs going into affect. He looked up and he saw a woman standing. He squirmed away from her. "Who the hell are you? What are you doing in here?!" He yelled at her.

It didn't take long or a hard look from the angel to figure out why she had been sent to him. The young man was a drug addict. It was easy to come to that conclusion as she saw the needle being pushed into his arm, followed by the overly alarmed state of the human. Truthfully, the fact that he was a drug addict made her nervous. Her knowledge on the subject wasn't that extensive. If only she had died after becoming a doctor, she could have been of better use. Nonetheless, she was going to be try her best to help Fredrick.

Seeing him so frigthened, Penelope didn't make an effort to decrease their proximity. Instead, she smiled kindly and explained as calmly as she could. "I'm a guardian angel. Your guardian angel. I was sent here to help you." Penelope said, hoping Fredrick would at least calm down. She wasn't scared that he wouldn't believe her though. After all, there were wings on her back. What else could she be, but an angel.

Guardian angel? What the hell? He kept thinking to himself. He's never been the religious type, so why is she here? He shook his head.

"I don't need help." He said, he was still nervous, he could feel that his heart was trying to speed up, but the Heroine was preventing that. He slowly started to calm down. "What's the real reason you're here, is this a prank?" He asked softly.

Penelope couldn't help but sigh as he shook his head and refused her help. She knew this wouldn't be easy but the girl really wanted his trust. She just wanted to help. "Nope. I'm an angel, sent from heaven. Do these look fake to you?" The angel asked, moving her wings slightly without having to lift a finger. She would even allowed him to touch them, if it helped to prove her authenticity.

Looking around, she couldn't help but notice the needles. "Heaven sure seems to think you need help." The angel commented with a serious face.

"Is that a joke?" He asked her as he stood up. He legs felt wobbly. "Angels are fake." He stopped for a second. The heroine was really making him relax a little, he didn't want to. "But I don't need help." He sighed softly and he rubbed his head.

"I don't want your trip here a wasted effort. Do you want two egging to eat or drink? I don't know if you wen need to eat." He said with a soft chuckle.

"Nope. Angels are real and you're seeing one of them." Penelope said, still confused at how much he was denying it. "Judging from your current state, I think you do. There's nothing wrong with that." Penelope assured him with a smile. She could see how proud Frederick seemed to be. How much he wanted to push her away.

Penelope's smile grew as he offered her something to eat or drink. He wasn't a bad guy. He just had an addiction problem. And now she understood why heaven would send her to him. "Sure. A glass of water would be nice. So, tell me, do you live alone?"

Fredrick walked to his small kitchen. He grabbed her a cup and she filled it with some water. So angels do need water and food. He thought to himself. "Yes I do live alone. Most drug addicts tend live in small groups. And there places are absolutely disgusting. I may be a druggy, but I still take pride in my homes appearance." He said as he walked back to the living room. And yes he does tend ramble on sometimes when he's under the influence of heroine.

He put the cup on the coffee table in front of him as he sat down. He pointed at a recliner that was next to the couch. "Have a seat." He said softly.

Penelope smiled and listened to him speak as he brought her the glass of water. Truth was, angels could eat and drink, but they didn't really need it. After all, such human and trivial things weren't needed in heaven. Nonetheless, she didn't want to reject his gracious offer. When he gave the glass to her, the angel smiled and thanked him. "I see. Well, I like your home." The Angel said, trying not to bombard him with questions about his addiction too soon.

And so, she sat down in the chair next to the sofa, wanting to learn more about him. "What is it that you do anyways?"

Fredrick looked at her curiously. "Are you talking about the needles?" Hr chuckled softly as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "If your not then I'll tell you. I am a part time skateboarder." He pointed at the trophies over by the tv. "Two time first place winner." He said with a soft smile. Possibly the two best things he done since he started his addiction.

Penelope shrugged her shoulders. "I can see you're doing that but don't worry. That's why I'm here." The girl said with another smile. She wasn't here to judge, criticize or damn the man for his life choices. The angel was here to help and nothing more. And so, she took a drink out of her water and put it down gently as she listened to him. Her wings staying still next to her. "Wow, that's quite the accomplishment. You must be proud. I couldn't even stand in a skateboard when I was alive." Penelope said with a chuckle. Although she had to admit it sounded weird to talk about her own death. After all, she had only passed away yesterday.

"Anyways, I'm glad you seem to be taking this whole 'guarding angel' thing well." She said, surprised how calm he was, despite his initial reaction. Then again, that could very well be the drugs. Either way, he wasn't getting rid of her. After all, she couldn't go back to heaven until Fredrick recognized the error in his ways and at least started to quit his addiction.

Fredrick smiled softly. "Why thank you. Possibly the best thing I've done in recent years." He said softly. He looked back at her. "So how long do you have to be here? And can anyone else see you?" He didn't want anyone to see a angel was living here." Even though most of them will more then likely be on some type of drug.

Truthfully, she was liking the conversation that was happening between the them. It felt relaxed, despite the fact she knew he was a drug addict. Otherwise, the young man seemed like a nice, polite person. Which made her want to help him even more. "Well, I can't go back to heaven until you get your life straight. Which I'm guessing means on the path to quitting drug addiction. No worries though, no one but you can see me. Not that I know of, anyways."

Fredrick nodded slowly and he rubbed his eyes. "Well good luck, because I'm not quitting now." He's done a lot in the past few years. And if he quits now, he had a very strong feeling that his past will catch up to him and it will make his life even harder then it is now."

Penelope knew this wasn't going to be easy, but she had to try. Which meant she had to find out just why he couldn't quit. "Not everyone gets a guardian angel, Fredrick. I'm here because you still have hope. Heaven knows you're a good person. So, tell me, why won't you quit now?" The angel asked, and although she looked like she was trying to understand, she also had a serious look on her face. After all, not everyone was as lucky as Fredrick.

Happy New Year!)

Fredrick sighed softly and he turned away from her. "It's a very long story." He said softly. "I've been through a lot through the past four years. And this is the only way, other then skating that can make me forget about it and relax." He started shaking a little bit just by thinking about it.

OOC: Happy new year!!!

Just seeing how nervous he seemed to get, Penelope decided not touch too much into the subject for right now. Instead, she reached over and gently placed her hand on his shoulder, as a way of comforting him. However, he would feel oddly at peace when she touched him. That was what angel did, after all. "This won't be easy, but I'm here for you. Everything will be fine." Penelope said with a reassuring smile and the gentle touch that would leave him at peace for a short while.

Fredrick couldn't help but smile softly. He started to relax a little. He was kinda happy that this angel was here. "Thank you." He said softly. He rubbed his eyes. "May I ask. Who picked you to be my guardian angel?" He found that very interesting.

Now that he seemed relaxed, Penelope took her hand away and smiled. "Who? The Lord, of course." She said, drinking the last bit of her water. "There aren't that many guardian angels though. Not everyone that makes it to heaven becomes one. I'm here because heaven thinks you're a good person. The last thing they want is for you to die before you're meant to."

Fredrick smiled softly at her reason why she's here. It made him feel special in a way. "That makes me feel good, actually." He said softly. He looked down at the pile of needles that were on the coffee table and he sighed softly.

Penelope smiled, happy that he seemed to be okay with the idea of having her here. "It should and I'm glad you see it that way. Now, does this mean you agree to let me help you?" The angel asked, smiling reassuringly. However, she couldn't help but look down at the pile of needles when Fredrick sighed. "Why don't we get rid of those?" Penelope asked, standing up and grabbing a trashcan, putting it next to him. She couldn't be the one to do this. Fredrick had to quit the drugs himself.

Fredrick looked up at her when she said something about throwing the needles away. He looked at the trash can, then back at the needles. He sighed softly. "Right." He said softly. He slowly picked them up. Slowly he reached over to the trash can, but he put them back on the table, and be covered his face with hands and he was shaking his head.

Penelope watched as he slowly tried to throw the needles away, but couldn't. However, the Angel didn't look disappointed, didn't sigh or looked at him with pity. She knew this was hard. Which was why she was here. "It's okay, one step at a time. Why don't you start by throwing one away?" She said, putting her hand gently on his head. The same, peace like feeling running through his body.

Fredrick noticed that she didn't seemed disappointed in him, it threw him off more then anything. He started to tear up a little and he nodded. "Alright." He grabbed one needle. And he slowly, and shakingly threw it into the trash. It made him feel good on the inside.
