Realistic or Modern Your Beauty Never Scared Me

Aaron sat with him and gave a heavy sigh "I've been at the estate...Carmen, they're sending her off to marry a prince. We're going to run away tonight. I just need to find a place to hide her. Please Enjolras...I love her." He pleaded

He frowned as he looked him up and down. “Are you serious? The girl from the estate? Aaron when you told me you had loved someone you’ve known for years I thought you meant someone working there,… you’re sure she isn’t being sent to spy on the rebellion?” He questioned him. Aaron was a good friend and he would trust whatever his answer was.

Aaron frowned more and shook his head "No, no she is on our side. She is with the cause." He told him truthfully giving a heavy sigh. He ran a hand through his hair taking a drink of his ale "She will help us, promise." He murmured

He sighed a little and just nodded. “Fine. But if anything happens there is to be no blame placed on anybody else.” He told him seriously.

Aaron nodded to him "I swear it." He said seriously before giving his friend a hug and soon got up to leave after the plans for tomorrow had been discussed. As night began to fall he made his way back to the stables and waited for Carmen to arrive.

One of the other women from their building made it to the village much later into the evening and went straight to find Maxine, eventually finding her helping people get food “It’s starting.” She told her quickly. “The soldiers were arriving just after I left.” She told her quickly. “Someone lit an effigy of the king on fire.” She told her quickly.

Carmen made it out to the stable block as quickly as she could, no worldly possessions with her at all, running smack bang into Aaron as she arrived. “I’m ready.” She told him frantically.

Maxine took a deep breath and nodded softly as the woman came over to her. She nodded softly and closed her eyes "Let us hope that most come back to us." She whispered before starting on helping everyone get settled more properly.

Aaron jumped some when he felt her collide into him. He grunted but smiled at her "Lets go." He said quietly kissing her gently before helping her onto the horse. He got on and quickly started riding off just as he heard her father yelling for her.

She got on in front of him, her skirts hiked up all the way and almost holding her breath until they were far from the estate, the sounds of fighting getting louder as they neared the city and she looked around them scared once they finally arrived, all of this very new to her.

She just nodded and started to help where she could, making sure her friend got a break to get some rest, praying that their men made it out to them.

Aaron rode quickly towards the city. Once on the outskirts he stopped and got her down "Come on love,we have to go by foot." He said quietly going towards a stack of crates and pulling out a gun that he had hidden "Stay by me." He told her quietly before taking her hand and leading her into the streets.

Maxine sat down once everyone had been fed atleast some bread. She smiled seeing some of the children sitting there with their mothers. She only wished that her daughter was there with them as well.

She nodded and stayed close, following him through the streets, jumping every so often at the noises, staring at the bodies horrified until they got to a building that he ushered her into.

Enjolras was out there with the people til long after things had gone quiet for the night, fixing barricades and helping get the injured taken care of and the dead covered. Eventually though he made his way inside and sighed heavily at the woman sat by the stairs. “This her?” He asked Aaron, wrapping up a cut on his hand with his kerchief.

Aaron helped her through and shot only one or two of the soldiers. He got her into the pub and sighed heavily "Stay here okay? Do not move at all." He murmured getting her sat on the staircase. He went to help the best he could but eventually went back to her once things had calmed down. He looked at Enjolras as he came in and nodded "Yeah. Carmen this is Enjolras, he helped out all this together." He said proudly clasping Enjolras on the back.

She nodded slowly looking around scared but not about to complain “is there anything I can do?” She asked him quietly seeing the people filling the building.

“No. No the only thing we are going to do with you is send you out to the country. All the women have been sent there. You can tell my wife that we are doing okay… and you can wait there until we arrive.” He told her seriously, walking away from the two of them to go sort out other people.

Aaron gave a nod and went to help the injured giving Carmen a small smile. He knew this would be a harsh adjustment, but he was just glad she had decided to come with him. As the night progressed and everyone was tended to he made his way back to her "Come on, we need to go now before morning. A lesser chance of them finding you." He said quietly while he helped her outside with Enjolras "I will make sure to tell Maxine of your safety. After some sleep I will return tomorrow." He explained to his friend.

She just nodded and got up onto the horse, “thank you.” She told the other man, looking around at the destruction though and frowning, wishing it hadn’t had to come to that.

He just nodded. “Good luck. Ride safely.” He told them both and headed back inside.

Maxine frowned when she heard horses outside of the house late that night. She clutched her rifle close taking deep breaths praying the soldiers hadn't found them. She peared through a crack in the old wooden door and relaxed some when she saw Aaron illuminated by the moonlight. She frowned though when she noticed someone also there with him. Quickly she got up and went out quietly so she did not wake the other women. She smiled softly at her husband's best friend and hugged him tightly "Oh Aaron it has been too long, how are things? Enjolras?" She asked quietly

Aaron arrived late into the night with Carmen smiling some "Okay lets get inside." He said quietly. He looked over when he heard the door open and smiled seeing Maxine come out. He hugged her as she hugged him "Yes far too long. The fighting has ended for now, we will make plans tomorrow to get closer to the royals." He said chuckling softly when she immediately asked about her husband "He is good, a few cuts and bruises but he will be okay." He promised her before motioning to Carmen "This is Carmen...she will soon enough be my wife when this all settles. She needs to hide here with you from her family." He explained quietly.

She nodded towards the woman, thanking her when she agreed for her to come in, following Aaron through and to a small space in an already crowded room, frowning a little, glad at least that he was staying for the night, waiting tik he had sorted the horses and finally came back to her, holding onto him tightly. “Please. Be safe.” She murmured, kissing him gently. “I don’t want this to have all been for nothing.” She mumbled.

Enjolras barely slept, too busy placing bodies on the fire and making plans but he was grateful to see Aaron made it back to them in one piece in the morning. “Are they okay?” He asked him, nodding when he got the reassurance that they were all fine.

Aaron chuckled quietly but gave her a small nod "You won't loose me that easily." He whispered before giving her a gentl kiss. As the sun rose he made his way out and back towards the city. Once he arrived he made his way directly to Enjolras "Yes everyone is okay." He told him with a smile "How are the men? Do we have enough for the fight tonight?" He asked

Maxine awoke the next morning to the sound of children playing outside. She gave a small smile thankful that they were still finding happieness in these times. She got up and pulled her hair back the best she could before placing her gown on. She walked out seeing the women busy trying to tidy and make possible bread to eat. They were rationing food to every few days, but even she knew that soon they would run out with the number of mouths to feed. She saw the woman Aaron had brought and smiled going to sit with her "How are you dear?"

She looked up and nodded frowning a little. “This is all uh…. This is all very new.” She told her quietly. “Thank you for letting me join you.” She hummed, standing and walking out of the house to go for a walk.

The fighting continued for a month before everything had come to almost a standstill but it had started getting cold and supplies were running out and it was during a storm that things started turning against the rebellion. They were ambushed whilst repairing the barricade, soldiers with a cannon sent men and shrapnel flying. Enjolras himself had been caught in the blast and found himself against a wall, bleeding from somewhere while the high pitched ringing in his ears wouldn’t allow him to hear anything else. He faded in and out for a time until he came around to views of destruction. Evidently they had managed to hold the kings men off for now but they’d lost a number of people. He looked up to see Aaron’s face in front of his, pleased to see his friend had made it out relatively unscathed.

Maxine sat in the house holding a rifle close with another man taking deep breaths. They had gotten word that they were loosing ground and that the soldiers could be coming. She just prayed that Enjolras and Aaron were both okay. She frowned as Carmen walked into the room without a care in the world "Get down!" She hissed before tugging her down. She knew this would be adjustment for the poor girl, and so far Maxine put up with it. She tried her best to teach her what she would need, but she didn't seem to want to learn.

Aaron flew into a nearby alley way when he saw the canno brought out. He was thankful to miss the blast but he was still shaken up. He grabbed a gun and rushed out shooting the soldiers that had gotten past. He went wide eyed when he saw Enjolras sitting against a wall his torso covered in blood. Quickly he went to his friend's side shaking him by the shoulder "Enjolras?! Enjolras?!" He called before taking a deep breath. He soon got him up and looked around at the surviors "Get the survivors! Retreat!" He yelled

He tried to help as they were hoisting him up onto the horse and felt someone getting on behind him, his vision blurry at best and going black at worst, not sure what was happening. The ringing was eventually dying down and he could hear Aaron’s voice begging him to just hold on a little longer, recognising the road as the one to the village, starting to pass out again. He was starting to feel cold, incredibly cold.

Carmen frowned and fell to the floor a little, looking up heating the sound of thundering hooves and a lot of shouting shortly before the door burst open.

Another one of the men was riding slightly behind Aaron and managed to get off quicker, bursting into the house. “It’s Enjolras… he’s been hit.” He told them frantically, going back out to help Aaron get him down, turning to see max coming out to them.

Aaron got him onto a horse with the help of another rebel and quickly set off towards the village. It was the only place he knew he could keep him safe. As they finally got there he looked down at his friend seeing how pale he had come "Stay with us Enjolras. The cause is lost without you. Stay with us." He said before getting off slowly as to not hurt his friend.

Maxine heard hooves hitting the ground and clutched the rufle tighter in her hands. Though when a man came through the door saying her husband had been hit her world came to a hault. It was like everything was in slow motion as she dropped the rifle and rushed out to find her husband red with blood "Get him inside and on the table!" She yelled to them before running back inside "Water! Cloth! Get me it hurry!!" She screamed at the women while she cleared off the table.

They managed to get his shirt off to find the shrapnel from the blast had shredded his abdomen but the bleeding had slowed down by now, and he wasn’t coming around hardly at all, just about managing to come around and see max there frowning at her, trying to get words out but failing.

Carmen watched them set him down and several of the women go to help Maxine while she rushed Aaron and held him tight. “Are you okay?” She questioned him, taking him to a much quieter space and getting him sat down, tending to the cuts and one bullet graze, “I’ve been so worried about you.” She told him quietly

Maxine rushed and tore open his shirt taking a shaky breath seeing the shrapnel. She was thankful that they had smuggled the doctor out to them in the most recent surge of people. She went to his side and shook her head softly seeing him trying to say something "Do not say anything my love." She whispered before moving to help the doctor where she could.

Aaron followed Carmen to one of the back rooms after Enjolras was safely put down. He sat down with her and gave a heavy sigh "I'm okay, I've missed you too." He said quietly kissing her forehead gently "Are you okay?"

She nodded and frowned a little. “Yes… yes I’m okay…. What happened?” She asked him quietly, holding his hands tightly seeing how badly they were shaking.

He soon passed out again and once they’d got him bandaged up as well as they could, moved him near the fireplace under a couple blankets to try and keep him warm as best they could, his breathing shallow and uneven throughout the night.

Maxine thanked the doctor as she sat by her husband's side. She took his hand in hers and cried quietly kissing it repeatedly "Please my love ...please do not leave me yet." She whispered before she started to pray to whatever was there hopeful it would help save him.

Aaron nodded some and took a shaky breath his whole body still in shock. Now that he was settling though everything was crashing "The...the soldiers....they...they had a cannon. They blasted and got through our barriers. Thats how Enjolras got hit."
