Fandom X-Men: Lifesong

"What do you mean she's dead?! I thought she was just missing!"

His voice was filled with both disbelief and despair as he shouted into the receiver, though he already knew the information had to be correct. Darren had to consciously remind himself not to clutch his phone so tightly, or it definitely would have broken in two. Rogue had gone off a few weeks ago on a mission with some of her fellow X-Men, a simple one at that. In fact, they weren't supposed to be engaged in combat at all. Nevertheless, two out of the three that had gone returned, relaying the confusing events that had rendered them unconscious, only to awaken and realize that their comrade had been taken - quite forcefully, by the looks of their destroyed surroundings.

The team had searched long and hard for Anna, but not a trace had been found that might have led to her whereabouts. The entire mansion had felt the tension of the situation as hey scrambled for intel, but none appeared. Until now, that is.

Apparently a piece of her had been found outside of her parent's home - her heart, to be exact. He winced at the thought of it, more at the harshness of the deed than the gore itself. A deep sadness was already forming within him as he ended the call, feeling a bit sick. He slowly stood from his seat, heading for the common area to look for Evan to pass on the information of their newly deceased friend, his eyes flashing silver of their own accord. Someone was going to pay for this, if he had to spend the rest of his life searching. He had originally thought her unkillable, in both body and spirit, and whoever -whatever- had murdered her just had opened up an up close and personal can of worms for the X-Men.

Evan collasped to the ground as soon as he heard it. The news was hard not to hear, being bellowed all around the mental corners of his friend, Darren. Still, the news caused an acute enough pain to make the ground around him rumble.

He quickly compossed himself, not wanting his teammates or students to be alarmed with the news just yet. Rouge was family, even before Ev lost who he was. Standing up and walking in the direction Darren was located, he fiercely fought back the tears that dared to roll off the edges of his eyes.

"Darren!" He called out when the man came into sight. Breaking into a run, he planted his feet brefore crashing into him. "Is it true?" He asked, even though he knew the answer. With all his mental marvels, Evan didn't need to read the mutant's mind to see the truth that lay in his eyes.

Ever since he had arrived a week earlier, Dez had noticed how large this school truly was. It's size only increased the intimidation he felt from the other students, even the ones much younger then him. Dez had just arrived a weeks ago and so far he'd spent those days getting to know the ins and outs of the school to get situated. However, today he'd start his first day of actual class and although he was a generally calm person he was nervous. He was the new guy, everyone would be looking right at him wondering who he was and where he came from.

All these thoughts and feelings spiraled inside Dez's mind, but as he sat in his room, music blasting into his ears, he knew there was no point in worrying. Instead, he stood up, putting on a beanie on his head and slipping on the same beat up converse that he always wore, he headed out of his room. Hearing yelling nearby, Dez walked towards the general direction of the noise. There, he saw two men, both with looks of sorrow on their faces. An eerie silence covered the room and Dez suddenly realized something had gone very wrong.

While all the commotion was going in the school, Damian was working out in the weight room. He was making sure he was at peek condition for any and all missions. During his current exercise of upside down crunch with a forty five pound plate, a student walked in with the news. Damian dropped the forty five pound plate and looked at the student with a look of disbelief. Now he wasn't going to break down into tears but, also was not going to rub it off like it was nothin. Rogue was a member of the X-Men a team that is targeted by multiple organization. It was common knowledge that you might die at any point but, this death felt different. It felt like a message to all X-Men. Whoever or whatever was coming for us.

Damian got down from the bar he was doing crunches on and put on a tank top then, went into the main hall. He went looking for the other X-Men. He knew this crime wouldn't go unjust. Going through the hall, he had a stern expression. It was similar to Logan's usual expression but, Damian's was different. Damian would usually keep a straight face under any condition but, this crime made him pissed. Rogue wasn't shy from action but, also wan't hesitant to help people. So, Why would someone kill her? It just told him since, someone was willing to kill her, Damian was willing to find the son of a bitch and give him what he truly deserves.

Rouge was -no- is a friend. She didn't care what her dad had told her about her! It would no way lessen her care for the fellow mutant. Skye didn't know Rogue as much a she wished that she did at this time. Logan left the room after telling her what had happened to Rogue, she knew her father had more of a connection to her than she ever would. It didn't mean that it didn't hurt any less.

Now expressing emotion wasn't one of her most favourite pastimes; which is what made her finally leave her room. She ignored all the sadness throughout the mansion, the ghost of a dead girl roamed throughout the building. She could feel her presence where she walked, there was no where that Skye could go to leave that feeling. She managed to keep it in, and be strong, she had no way to know how to deal with it any other way.

Skye could be found in one of the few places she was always in, training room. Wrapped and sore knuckles pounding into the punching bag that hung in front of her. Beating the ange and upset out into the bag, her temperature rising uncontrolably with each raging punch she threw. It's what happened when she got mad, the fire would take over. It was different each emotion. (Ie- water was sadness, earth was happiness, air was anything in between). She knew very well that she probably needed to calm herself and let everything go. But she was too stubborn to ever let that happen any time soon. Skye would just deal with it the best way she knew how, pure rage.

Sophia stepped quietly into the common room. Her long brown hair hung loosely down her back and touched the edge of her hips. She almost seemed to glide across the room as her long, figure hugging dress swept the floor. She found Darren and walked up to him.

"Is it true, Darren?" She asked him as she looked up at him with her big green eyes.

She did not want it to be true. Rogue was someone who helped her out with her social awkwardness when Sophia first arrived. She helped Sophia learn a few things to function in a normal day-to-day life. She could feel the sadness as it bubbled up from the pits of her stomach and she bit her lip slightly to distract herself from it.

Darren shook his head sadly, embracing Evan for a moment before he turned to the others that had noticed the two. He figured he might as well spill the beans now, since news like this sort tended to spread like wildfire around the mansion even if you tried to keep it under wraps.

"Yes, it's true," Darren said after he contemplation, trying not to let the anger and hurt show in his currently stoic expression. "But...do not panic. Whatever, whoever, has killed Rogue will be receiving it's well deserved justice in due time," he growled, just the thought making him anxious. He was barely holding on to the facade of calm, trying not to convey his stress in front of the kids.

"Anna was...one of the best people I ever knew, in every single way. And I'd be damned if I didn't do everything possible to avenge her death...just wish we could have found her before it happened. Nevertheless, I promise you we are going to figure out what happened to her," he added, struggling over the tenses in his sentences as he acknowledged the fact that Anna was truly gone. He could also feel his sisters rage I'm the bak of his mind matching his own, and he guessed she was taking it out on some poor piece of equipment.

Skye knew very well of the bruises forming under the pro wrap on her knuckles, as small and fragile as she may look; she was strong. Stronger than the average man at least. She knew she was the only one in the training room, so it was okay for her to punch, kick, and scream out whatever anger she had in her. Not looking at where she was punching, but only focusing on her fists pounding into the firm bag in front of her.

Something was warm, very warm, though. Upon opening her eyes and looking at her hands, she cursed to herself. Smoke rising from a hole burnt out in the pro wrap. She sighed running her fingers over the blackened hole, a small amount of mist coming from her fingertips and stopping any pent up fire that would soon be set free. Skye practically tore off the burnt fabric and tossed it next to her feet before going at it again, leaving scorch marks across the punching bag; but nothing could ever bring her to care. And if anyone needed her, they better be smart and have a calm approach, or to not approach her at all. Because when you play with fire, you end up burned; quite literally in this case.

Quietly, Dez left the scene quickly. In his life he had travel all over and had seen more death then anyone can imagine, and one thing that he had learned was that people needed to grieve and having a stranger there like himself did of help. So with that, he began walking around the mansion wandering aimlessly trying to find a place to go.

Dez was making his way down the halls when he heard the sound of someone hitting a punching bag. It was a sound he was very familiar with due to the time he had spent learning Muay Thai in Thailand where he had stayed in a boxing gym. He walked towards the sound and found himself in the training room. There, a girl, not much younger then himself, was absolutely destroying the bag in front of her.

Sitting down by the door, Dez watched her burn and rip apart the bag. It was clear that she had heard the devastating news and was lashing out her anger. That to Dez was natural and completely normal. However, some people would wonder why he even was sitting in the room, after all, she clearly was not in a any kind of good mood making Dez automatically a possible target for her anger. But he knew that soon enough she would break down, and when that happened she'd need someone even if it was some random stranger. And because of this, Dez continued to watch her in silence.

Skye could feel her brothers sadness within her mind, and it killed her to know how terrible he felt. However he did have Evan there, he would be okay -at least she hoped it would. It only made her angrier, he punches becoming harder, moving the bag with a force she didn't know she had until now, she took a step back and steadied herself on both feet before thrusting her hands forward and lighting the whole punching bag aflame.

With an almost pathetic sob, she fell to the floor, picking up one of the burnt pro wraps and using it to wipe the sweat from her face. Her temperature nearing 120 degrees F. Inhumanly possible, but she wasn't a human. Quickly composing herself she stopped the burning bag and let out a large sigh. She needed fresh air, and maybe to go talk to Scott. It's normally what she did when times were tough. And though Scott wasn't fully here, she knew he still listened because he cared. Skye sniffed and used the back of her bruised hand to wipe the 'sweat' under her eyes. The sweat really being tears -she would never admit that though. If Darren hadn't been so busy with the others then she would turn to him, unfortunately he was with the others, so all she had was herself.

Dez continued to watch his mind wandering when suddenly the bag bursted into flames. His mind snapped back into the situation at hand and he stood up, tripping over his feet a bit an almost silent "whoa" escaping from him she stared in awe. Once again, Dez snapped into focus when he heard a sob come from the girl as she fell to the ground.

Walking over to her, Dez sat in front of her. In fact, he was so close that the temperature radiating from her was burning him slightly. But that didn't matter to him, he simply sat there face to face with her being quiet. He carefully observed her from head to toe. From her hair to her nose, Dez took in the person in front of him. He always did this, and it always killed him in the end. Throughout the years he had lost more people that one could even imagined, but their very beings were burned into his mind. He lived with their memories everyday, and although it hurt he wouldn't have it any other way.

"It never gets better, just easier. I'm sorry" was all Dez said, looking at her directly in the eyes.

Startled was one word, holding the other by the neck with a burning hand was another. It was almost instinct to react that way when she felt like this, the heat growin on her palm. "You've been watching me," she didn't even say it as a question, the way his aroma came off, she knew he'd been watching her. "Don't," it wa a simple statement, one word and a tough tone made her seem like a very non innocent girl.

Skye dropped her hand from his throat before finally taking in who he was. She got to her feet, clearly observing the new addition. The mansion was full enough, and bringing in more mutants just felt like it was overflowing her home. All she needed was a place to go, that's all she wanted.

Smiling to herself, Skye scoffed and shook her head, "loose a soldier gain a soldier, that's how it works right?" She asked, brows raised to her hairline, her curling bangs hiding them. "You are not going to replace Rouge, nor will you ever. Get that straight and maybe we won't have the need to talk again," Skye hovered over the other, she needed the comfort, yet this was some random stranger, the newbie of the litter, and she was not about to take his pity, especially fake pity for some girl he didn't even know the name of.

Sophia looked up at Darren. Her green eyes watered but she managed to hold back the tears. She squared up her shoulders and nodded slowly to Darren's words.

"Right. I'm going to grab every piece of intel I can on their mission. I'll speak to those who made it back. Debriefing room in two hours?"

Sophia did what she did best in these sort of situations; using her logic and ignoring her emotions. Her emotions were quite strong at the moment though, so she did not wait around for Darren's answer. She turned on her heels and walked off to find the survivors of the mission.

"We'll catch the assholes who did this to you..." She mumbled to herself as she walked the corridors.

Clenching his teeth, Dez felt the girl's hand burn his skin as she held onto his neck. However, he did not lash out or do anything just listened to her closely as she spoke. Her words were vicious and unwelcoming, but that was something Dez was very much familiar with.

"Rouge... so that was her name" he said coughing from the smoke in the room and the itch in his neck. "I don't want to replace her, no one in the world would be ale to do that. I just....want to know who she was, what she dreamed about...." Dez explained as he finally got to his feet to stand his ground.

He knew that this girl was going to unleash her anger on him, and that was alright. Dez was telling her the truth and if her response was to get angry and attack him then that's what it would be. She needed a way to let her emotions flow through her even if that meant beating the hell out of Dez.

Skye turned her back to the new guy and started her walk out of the training room, "if you want to know about her than I'm not the girl you should be asking," and it was true; whatever Skylar told him wouldn't bring her friend justice. She stopped at the doorway with a sigh and turned back around, leaning against the doorframe. She knew that he was only being nice, or at least trying to. And as much as she would deny it, she needed the comforting. She did not expect that comforting to come from some guy that she just met.

"Rouge was just an alias; her name was Anna, and she was a great friend to everyone in this mansion. And she would have loved you. But I have nothing more to tell you; I didn't know her too well but my father did. We were close despite how little we talked," Skye said her anger subsiding slightly. It was clear how terrible she felt about the death, and that she was obviously trying to mask the emotions, "I wish I knew more," her voice trailed as she looked down to the ground, using her hand to wipe the sweat from her brow.

(I feel bad about posting so much, but no one else is posting besides a couple of us so I have to)

As the girl went on, Dez closely listened. His eyes focused as he took in every detailed of the person that he had not had the pleasure to meet. As a human being, he truly felt sorry that he hadn't gotten a chance to meet her. It was because of moments like this that Dez didn't believe that everything happened for a reason. No one who brings that much good should ever have to die for some "greater cause". A silence passed as he took everything in and let his mind wander a bit.

"Why do you do that?" Dez suddenly asked, the question spoken very quietly. "Hide the hurt" he explained. "I mean, you loved her, so why would it be such a bad thing to show that losing her affects you?"

Once again, there was a silence. Dez rubbed the back of his slightly burned neck as he observed the girl in front of him for a second time. Suddenly, he realized that he had spoken out loud and had asked a question she might've not liked. This was something that often happened to Dez.

"I-I'm sorry, I say stuff without thinking. That's your business, but I was just wondering. I um understand I'd you don't wanna answer" he quickly said words spilling out of his mouth. In his rambling apology Dez took an apologetic step back and tripped a bit but regained his composure.

((I know what you mean, I don't want to make it seem like a lot for everyone to catch up on when they get here))

Skye knew full well why she hid the pain from the world, but it wasn't something she would talk about openly. "Why not mind yourself before asking random people those kinds of things," she said a scowl on her face, still not looking up at him. Oh how she wished it was her brother that came into this room and not some new mutant that she barely knew. Having it pent all up inside made it hurt a lot more than what she liked, keeping it all underneath was hard when it was bubbling against the surface. Skye shook her head, a quiet pathetic laugh escaping her lips, "Pain is weakness, and you let that slip up just once, well then you're screwed," finally her voice broke, eyes reddened slightly from holding back the stinging tears. "You don't understand."

With that, she turned on her heel and walked out the door of the training room, she showed the weakness and it was not going to get any better from there on. She hung her head taking the long way to her room, just to assure herself that no one else would cross her path. She sniffed and wiped away any tear trying to rid herself the look of pain as she walked through the halls of the school.

"Darren, this is serious." Evan planted himself on the ground and tucked his knees into his chest. The feeling of dread--that this wasn't the worst to come--pushed its way in the man's head. He searched for something to say to make the now better, but they eluded him. "Your uncle should be returning soon." He opted for stating the facts. "We could get a squad operational and scan the scene for any leads on who did this. I'll even do a scan from the scary machine..." he trailed off, while the silvered eyes bore holes into him.

(No apologies needed, just keep up the chem. :)

Face scrunched up and teeth once again clenched, anger rose through Dez. Of course he knew about pain, how dare she just assume that? He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped himself. He took in a deep breath and let the anger sink and subside. Dez knew she was already in enough pain and needed time, so he simply watched as she walked off.

He stood there, closing his eyes and taking in the sounds around him. Opening his eyes slowly, Dez began to make a plan in his head. As a new resident, he felt like he had to pay his

respects to Anna herself, this new girl, and everyone else in the school. So with a determined spirit, Dez used his mutation for the first time in months.

The world around him slowed down significantly, it was as if everything was being played in slow motion as Dez ran through the school. To the students, he appeared as a blur traveling too fast to be made out, but to Dez it was perfectly clear. He ran through the halls until he found the garden. As the gardener worked she looked for a moment suddenly finding a majority of her white roses gone along with a note of apology. Carrying the many roses, Dez left one at every dorm room door. Quickly running through the kitchen with the last flower, Dez grabbed a bowl of ice cream before finding the girl in the halls and stopping in font of her.

"You were right, it's one of my business. So, I hope you accept my peace offerings" he told her before placing the bowl of ice cream and rose a couple feet in front of her and taking several steps back

Skylar nearly jumped out of her skin as the man seemed to appear out of nowhere, and she didn't suspect teleportation, no he looked a little windswept for that. "Where did you come from?" she asked looking around and seeing that they were the only two around, he being one of the first people that she met who could run at such speeds -or at least that's what she guessed he could do. Skye looked down at her feet and couldn't help the small smile that tied to come onto her lips. She bent down and picked up the rose only before looking back to the new guy. "Lactose," said Skye with a shy smile.

For a moment she thought that she was crazy, but the more she thought about it the less crazy it seemed, even if she was sweaty and a mess, whatever. She opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again. After another long moment she opened it again and this time words came out. "Do you want to go for a walk?" she asked pointing behind her to where the closest exit of the mansion was.

Dez rubbed the back of his neck bitting his lip slightly his head hanging towards the ground as he waited for her reaction hoping he soon wouldn't be a pile of ash. However, when he looked up to see a small smile formed on her face he was surprised. Letting his hand fall to his side and picking up his head. Realizing she had liked the gesture, Dez smiled back before ace palming himself for his own stupidity.

"Lactose, of course, I should've thought of that" he mumbled to himself as he scratched his head. He was once again lost in his own head feeling stupid for not anticipating his mistake when she asked him another question. Looking up, he was once again surprised, but glad. He looked back to the way she pointed then turned back to her finally answering.

"On one condition" Dez began, a very serious look on his face. "I get to eat the ice cream" he finished a playful smile on his face as he picked up the bowl and began walking alongside her.
"By the way, I'm Desmond" he said as he ate. "But people who can stand me long enough to know me call me Dez"

By the serious tone and serious expression, Skye had prepared herself for something she would expect, not the silly response that she got. It made her roll her eyes, but she obliged and said yes anyways. She turned towards the doors to go outside and let the fresh air hit her warm flesh, "Yes, lactose and vegetarian, the two greatest things a person can be when in training," Skye said with a small laugh.

"Savage," she introduced herself, "I'm not offended if you haven't heard of me. It would actually surprise me if you did know who I was," she said. "My dad's always been strict about me going on the field, and I have a cousin who keeps me under his watch at all times. I say it like it's a bad thing, but it's not. He's like the big brother I never had, leader of the X-Force, so he's kinda obliged to keep everyone safe," she was rambling, but that's what happened. If she needed the distraction and someone was standing with her listening she could go on for hours. "Real name is Skye by the way," she told him looking up at the other eating the ice cream, "Skye Howlett, for future reference," she said.

As Skye rolled her eyes, Dez smiled again he had predicted that she'd do that. While she spoke, he listened closely absorbing how she talked and moved. He stopped as soon as he heard her Mutant name a look of confusion on his face.

"Savage? I mean, sure, you're a bit rough around the edges but that a bit harsh on yourself. I use to be the Blur, but now its Impulse. It just sounds cooler" he said and continued on walking as he ate. Dez liked that she rambled on and on because he did the same. With her, it was different, usually he wanted to have a conversation with someone but it was like he could listen on forever. Dez continued to listen as she told him about his family and all. When Skye looked up at him his spoon was hanging off of his nose as he tried to find where he recognized her last name. Realizing she had seen him, Dez quickly smacked the spoon off of his nose and back into the bowl coughing to hide his face as his face reddened from embarrassment that she had seen him being such a child.

"Um, Howlette, I've heard that before...your dad is...oh....oh!" Dez exclaimed as he realized that her father was James Logan Howlette, widely known as Wolverine. "Well, now I know where you get your charm from" he joked with his usual smile.

"So, did you grow up here in the mansion?" Dez asked.
