Fandom X-Men: Lifesong

Darren slammed his phone down on the table and groaned in frustration. Sky wasn't in the building, and she wasn't answering her ohone. Normally he wouldn't have cared too much, because despite Logans opinion on the subject, he felt she needed to explore a bit. But really? Running off with the new guy during a time like this? Not acceptable.

He was feeling a mixture of aggravating emotions. He'd left after feeling a little berated by his best friend, though he could fully understand the reaction, since he himself didn't want to do it. Confusion, irritation, rage, helplessness.... and that was just the tip of the iceberg. And Evan...well he couldn't really confide in the man at the moment. Well, maybe not ever. And the reason he'd made the earlier suggestion had a lot more history than just one skill not being up to par.

The truth was, he could feel the Feral side of him enveloping him more every day. It wasn't like what his rage usually did, a few agonizing minutes without control over his own body. It was a slow inching of the Feral instinct that overlapped his own. The formerly scarce silver in his eyes had started seeping into the blue, he was even more over protective of the people close to him, and being an Alpha was starting to even affect his mannerisms toward others. He remembered when he actually nearly ripped someone's head off for giving him an order...

Darren felt like he was loosing himself to his wolf. And this was not the time for it to happen. Logan couldn't help him any more, he didn't remember enough to do so. But honestly, Darren had no idea how to somehow track down Rogues's kilers, keep his secret from Evan, keep an eye in his pack mate and not go crazy in the process.

He sighed, picking up his phone one last time and calling again. Why didn't I just stay in Washington...

The smile on Skye's face left the moment that the cave started to echo the ringtone of her phone, there was the persistence that she knew was in Evan. As much as she wanted to stay away from it all, something drew her to get up on her feet and walk herself to her phone. Then she knew why she was willing to check it this time; Darren. She swore lightly under her breath and picked up her phone laying atop of the beanie. Skye just wished that it wasn't because he knew she left that he was calling, maybe he was in need of comfort or something. Just don't be mad... She thought to herself bringing the phone up to her ear.

She's been on the receiving end of Darrens anger before, however she could practically feel the raw emotions from him flowing through the phone. Evan didn't even realize she was gone probably; however Darren did and that made her wish that it was Evan calling. Sighing once she finally spoke; "Hey big brother," her tone was sweet and innocent, like she knew nothing of what was going on. That wasn't true, she knew it all, there was so much going on, how could she miss it? Simple; she couldn't. Playing innocent would not help her situation, especially if he was mad, she should just fess up to her crimes and deal with punishment later.

"Skye? Where...where are you? Are you OK?"

Darren had to backtrack on his words to keep the growl out of his voice. Well, mostly out if his voice. He was glad she'd finally picked up, saving him the expedition of trying to locate her, but he still was far less than pleased. He didn't have the energy to rant at her, do he just sighed into the phone. "Did you get Evan's text? You...and that other kid I'll be having a talk with...need to haul ass."

"Received and not read," Skye stated trying to ignore the fact that she could tell he was mad, clearly trying not to yell at her or raise his voice in anyway. "And I'm just in the training room, so I don't understand why you don't just come here and see me," she said, lying quite easily. It was something she had gotten use to, probably not the best thing to get use to, however it was a perk some times, times like this one. She knew that Darren was aware she wasn't at the mansion, but hey, it was worth a shot. Then have speedy here run them back and voila, no one gets hurt and Darren would never know that she left. Simple as ABC. "What exactly do we need to talk about? Because depending on what it is I may skip out," she said. If Desmond was involved and her and Darren, then it may not end well, the new guy taking the X-Forces leaders little sister out of the mansion and cross country, that's a great first impression.

Desmond pushed himself up with his elbow and looked at Skylar bursting out laughing as he did so. It was strange how he could do that. One second, he'd be freaking and the next he'd be laughing it off like it was nothing. After he finally finished laughing ridiculous and regained his great, Dez gave her a smile. Funny how although he'd tasted freedom his whole life he never truly felt free until now when there was someone he could share it with.

"You have to tell me that story. What did he do?" Dez asked jokingly.

As soon as she got the call, the smile on his face melted away. He knew that soon, there was gonna be trouble and he'd pay for it. Facing the rage of Skylar's protectors was not something Dez was looking forward to. Quietly, he waited for their conversation to end.

Evan looked down at the metal contraption, reluctance beginning to bubble in his chest. He'd tried using the renowned Cerebro once before. He almost killed Darren, whom he was only trying to locate. Apparently, the machine amplified and focused the mental prowess of a telepath--if that person knew what they were doing. If Evan could kill with little ease using the tech then what would it mean about his strength as a mutant? What was being hidden from him? And most of all, when would he "accidentally" end someone?

Trying to distract himself, and a little irked at their tardiness, Evan went to his last resort of communication. 'Everyone who is assigned to either team needs to get themselves ready, pronto. This is mandatory.' He projected to the necessary minds--a little to loudly. His flaming temper was know for around the estate, outbursts followed by bad things happening. The last incident included a door being blasted off the hinges. Evan wished to the heavens he could control it, but even that was out of his reach. He settled for suppressing it to a small tremor that shook out into the air itself.

"We have a mission. We're going to find Anna's killer...which means you need to be at the debriefing," Darren explained. "And seriously? Haven't I told you so many times that your lying won't work on me?" He snorted, snaking his head. He may have been a little preoccupied, but he wasn't stupid.

Darren hung up, not giving her a chance to object to the order, and standing from his spot stretching after sliding the phone away. Not soon afterwards, Evan's yell sounded in his head and he bristled instinctivly. He didnt really like - no, he hated - when the man did that. The feeling of having someone in your mind was still very unnatral to him, though most of the dislike toward the feeling happned because of an event years ago. Still silently fuming, he made his way to the designated location, hoping to avoid Evan's wrath...and also hoping all the stress wouldnt cause himself to snap.

"Crabby," Skye said with a sigh dropping her phone. She knew that the conversation most likely wouldn't be over. She took a moment to just work through the fact that Darren had just told her that she was going on a real mission; that could not be happening. She didn't want to go back yet, not to all the sadness, it would only remind her of her own sadness. Skye pocketed her phone and picked up the things off the ground turning to Desmond with a sad smile. She figured that he knew already that they had to leave, "Thanks for this Dez, but it's time to get back to reality," she said.

Darren stormed to the hangar, punching in a code and stepping through the sliding doors. He saw Evan, and a couple others waiting around near the jet, most of them with serious expressions plastered on their faces. Sighing, he took a spot a ways away from them, leaning against the cold wall and crossing his arms tightly over his chest. He hoped his sister and her...new friend would be back soon, because he wanted to get the meeting over with as soon as possible. Partly because he wanted to start the search, and partly because he didn't feel like talking to anyone at the moment, and the blonde was much more inclined to start clawing at things if he didn't get some answers. Self control only went so far with a Feral...ant the blueish sparks emanating from his skin were a pretty good indicator for his current mood.

Dez smiled back at her, but not with sadness. His smile was full of joy because he had gotten to give someone a slice of freedom for a while, and it had been a lot of fun. Standing up, Desmond cracked his back and stretched out letting out a loud yawn as he did so. "That's alright, it was a good time" he said with the same smile as before.

Turning his back to her, Dez waited for Skye to hop on again. "Alright, so, same rules as before except one more that I forgot to mention. You see, you've become a lifetime customer of Desmond Locomotive. That means that you get free round trips to wherever you please, and you can't just turn them down, you have to go somewhere. Sorry, it's mandatory, you should've read the fine print on the contract. At least it comes with a side of bad jokes" he joked trying tonce again lighten the mood.

"Seriously, Skylar, anytime at all and off we go in a Flash. Where have I heard that phrase before? Anyways, hold on!" Dez told her and running off he went. Once again, wind blasted into Desmond's face and he gave a maniacal grin full of delight. He knew they were in a hurry do he ran fairly quicker the before. In a couple of minutes, they had arrived at the briefing. Dez looked up at the jet and gave a whistle.

"We're here, please exit to the station through the doors on your right" he told Skye, imitating a flight attendants voice as he did so.

Skye let out an overly exaggerated groan, putting her head down on the back of his shoulder, "I don't want to go back," she said, her words slightly muffled. She listened to what he said, and hoped that maybe she would be able to sneak out every now and then with him, because it was an adventure. One that she has been waiting for, for a long time.

Not just some willy-nilly adventure to go off, fight the bad guy come out the hero. But a real adventure, one where she wouldn't be hurt in the process. However, with her lifestyle, her 'adventure' was on a list of things she will never get to do. All she had was home, her brother and her father. Nothing more, and sometimes she wished for less. If they just let her out a little more than maybe she would be better, maybe she wouldn't be so uptight at times.

Stepping down off Desmond's back she walked over to Darren, standing next to him with her arms crossed, "Thank you, Dare, for ruining the fun," she was well aware of what kind of mood he was in, and talking to him in the tone that she did may not have been the best option, she knew his limits though, and knew when to stop pushing buttons. But now was not that time, "Oh wait, no sorry. I meant thanks for ruining my life since you came back," she finally looked up at him and smiled the fakest smile she could muster letting it drop the minute she started to walk away and back over to Desmond.
