The handshake the two gentlemen shared felt intimidating and as Nolan tightened his grip around Alistair he couldn’t help but feel intimidated. The firemen Liv had talked about many, many times now standing right in front of him and while they both knew, nobody said anything.

He introduced himself to Eileen while Alistair was fixated on the lady standing in front of him, Liv had not given him any of her time. She looked up shortly before focusing on her phone, which was not how Alistair knew her at all. Her eyes mostly sparkled upon seeing each other and she would have the most wonderful smile, none of that was happening right now. He wondered if it was because of Eileen or Nolan as it probably wasn’t the most comfortable situation.

‘Heard much about me?’ Alistair replied, his eyes still fixated on Olivia and his voice a lot less confident. ‘Right, only good things I hope,’ he added, now looking at the firefighter with a forced smile. Alistair’s hand squeezing Eileen’s waist, maybe because he was nervous or maybe because he felt slightly intimidated by the handsome looking gentleman.

The sudden gulp of champagne and the worst possible excuse surprised Alistair and before he could say anything the purple dress was on a great amount of distance. Nolan made a comment about how she tended to do this, Alistair looking at him a bit flustered. She did this? She never did this to Alistair, he didn't even remember a single argument they have had. They felt a connection on almost every level.

He didn’t even hear what Eileen asked him and didn’t even bother to ask her to repeat it but instead gave her an absent kiss before pointing in the direction the purple dress had just disappeared. ‘I better go. . I’m going to check on Olivia, to make sure she’s alright,’ he stumbled over his words and Alistair was sure it didn’t come across too great. He gave an apologetic smile to Eileen as he took another glass of champagne of the tray.

Not waiting to listen to their replies he pushed the firefighter slightly with his shoulder before pushing himself through the crowd after where he had last seen Olivia, it wasn’t hard to catch her as her dress was too big to hide. He saw a bit of her hair as he pushed the door with the big forbidden entrance sign on it and met with a cold wind from the open sea. From all the places she could've ran too, she went to deck.

Now Alistair was standing face to face with Olivia, her face looked distress and Alistair walked up to her without any hesitation, more confident than he had felt this whole night. ‘What is the matter with you?’ He asked, sounding a bit more agitated than he intended too. ‘I was worried,’ Alistair added as he grabbed the side of the deck to stable himself from the hard wind. Now looking at Liv closer he couldn’t help but grin which automatically relieved all the tension in his face. ‘Have you lost your mind?’ Alistair now grabbing her hand with his other hand, hoping she would fall into his arms and to never speak another word about this again.

Alonzo Fairchild

"Drunk me fell into the pool one time and no one will ever let it go."

“Think we’ll be busy tonight?”

“Have you ever met drunk people?”

“I was in the Navy.”

“And I was in the Hells Angels.”

They stared at each other for a minute, locking eyes like they were glaring at each other and ready to start duking it out. Lewis broke first and started laughing, almost wheezing as he wiped a tea from his eye. “You just get this weird looking tough guy face and it kills me, we gotta work on that if you’re gonna be a K9 officer one day Ally…” He folded his arms across his chest and settled back into his seat, yawning down the feeling of being tired after having been awake all day.

“Hey, leave me alone, at least I try… Also I’m not a six foot tall man with the same build as a grizzly bear.” Alonzo could feel a pouting face come but he shooed that part of him away, knowing he would easily slide into a routine of flirting with Lewis and he was trying desperately not to turn his workplace into a whore house.

“6’2 actually princess.” Lewis reached over and poked Alonzo’s body armor, “Why don’t you come to the gym with me and Daniel? We can easily get you into a good weight lifting routine and diet, making you into a lean mean fighting machine.”

“My DI said that in Great Lakes… Till he realized like six weeks later that I’m just good at running, I can run circles around you big man.” Alonzo grinned, “How about a foot race tomorrow morning? Loser buys breakfast?”

“I would say yes, just to kick your ass but I can’t.” Lewis shrugged and rubbed his chin, “Daniel is finally getting some time off, so I’d like to spend time with my future husband.” He wasn’t wrong, Daniel was knee deep in shit since Rhys had left for the west coast and his return meant that he would be able to take a week off to just chill out, he needed it. “Come on, let’s go patrol, plus Annie is vibrating from the pent up energy in her body and I can feel the cruiser shaking.”

Alonzo slid out of the passenger side of the cruiser and adjusted his duty belt, tapping every single item to make sure it was still there before he stepped away towards the front of the car. “Where’s Daniel at tonight?” His thumbs hooked into the shoulder straps of his duty vest as he waited for Lewis to retrieve Annie from the back compartment.

“Well… come on little lady.” Annie barked, her tongue lolling out the side of her mouth in excitement as she jumped down to the street and pulled the leash along, Lewis barely holding her back till he got a good hold on her. “He had to go to Boston to pick up Rhys, he’s coming back from Cali… Hopefully the fire season is done, he was pretty tired when we talked to him earlier in the week.” Lewis walked alongside Alonzo, letting Annie take the lead as they headed closer to harbor.

“Good for him, we can finally have our weekly bbqs again eh?” Alonzo nudged Lewis’s side with his elbow as they rounded the corner, his eyes took in the ocean and the boats, it made his heart ache for the seat. He shook his head and blinked away the feeling of longing, he left the Navy behind for a reason and had to remind himself that he was happy in the here and now. It made him frown, he hated old feelings and tried to will them away by force, pushing them down into the deep parts of his mind so he could unpack them later.

“Of course… Long as you promise not to fall into the pool while you’re drunk.”

“Motherfucker, I did that one time… One!”

All Alonzo could hear was Lewis’s roaring laughter and Annie’s excited barks as they walked towards the waterfront. Yeah… This was his home… and he was happy to be here.

pour yourself a glass, you deserve it

Olivia didn't care that she just walked away. It's sometimes what she needed to do, run away from her problems before they turned around and ruined her. The wind that breezed past her was refreshing and it let Liv collect her thoughts.

Alistair Hawley. He was a dangerous man.

She hears the door first before she hears his voice, and his voice, although a comfort, it has Liv close her eyes and take a deep breath. When she thought she needed to be alone, there he was, ready to invade her space with his being.

What is the matter with you? When she opens her eyes again, there he was right in front of her. In all his handsome glory, the softest grin on his face that made all the worry that Olivia was collecting, melt away from her. I was worried. The sentiment squeezes Liv's heart and she feels as if she wanted to run away with him right now. When his hand captures hers, she squeezes back before pulling away. She turns, taking a few more steps to put some distance between them, it was overwhelming being that close to him. She snorts at his question but keeps her eyes on the sky, the sun starting to tuck under the horizon. I think I'm going absolutely insane. They are only accompanied by the biting wind and the soft music drifting from the inside of the boat.

I really hate you Alistair, how dare you? Liv finally whips herself around to face him, her voice barely a whisper. With a sincere lookin her eye, she takes a deep breath, hesitating on whether or not she wanted to say this. The space between them felt a little too large and she wanted to run right back to him. Who gave you permission to come into my life and make me fall for you?

Is he losing the love of his life

tl;dr
Nolan Marriott
Let me devote my life to you
Nolan felt helpless as his wife walked out away from their group. Olivia was always willing to remove herself from a situation that she didn't like. Usually Nolan was one to run after her and make sure she was alright, but Alistair beat him to it. The reporter had responded quickly, shoving past the firefighter and abandoning him and his initial date behind. Nolan didn't know how to explain this situation to Eileen and he couldn't necessarily abandon her here by herself, he was a gentleman. There was another man chasing after the woman he had vowed himself to, it was embarrassing.

And then there were two. Nolan chuckles, taking a discreet sip of his champagne.

The Marriotts had been married for five years, the two of them recently celebrating their anniversary. They had a small party with their loved ones, both sides of their family packing into their home to acknowledge the achievement. It seemed like a positive indication that the two of them would make it another five years. But then he asked. They grew separate. He was working overtime. She was locking herself away in her studio. Or she was with Alistair. They were supposed to have plans in motion when they decided to buy a house in Anchor Bay and watching it derail caused panic to the young husband. And because he hadn't genuinely looked at his wife in so long, he didn't know if it was bothering her too.

The truce that they had agreed to take for the night seemed as if it would be disintegrated by end of the night and he hoped that it hadn't. He loved had Olivia by his side, tucked against him like old times when they used to travel. He missed kissing her in public and displaying that a powerful and compatible couple were in the midst of a normal crowd. Nolan missed his wife. He couldn't lose her and while watching her purple dress flurry away and Alistair following it like his was under a spell, Nolan knew that he had to fight. But for now, he was going to be an entertaining acquaintance.

I'm a firefighter, been working at the Station #2 since Liv and I moved here. The champagne in his hand wasn't amusing to him anymore and he could just whisk the flute around in small circles. His eyes wander around the room a bit as he tried to ground himself, this could count as some type of crisis, couldn't it? He sees his nephews Chance and Isaiah, snacking on some grapes, tossing each other some of the fruit from appropriate distances. And then he spots his niece on the other side of the space, messing with the hem of her black dress looking nervous like she always did a huge gatherings. His family. Their presence grounded him enough and he puts a large smile on his face. Anchor Bay is a nice place to live, get to be close to the family, ya know? How about you, what do you do?

TL;DR Getting the dogs off the plane and heading home

tl;dr
Sybil Weston

" One Dog, Two Dog, Red Dog, Blue Dog."

Sybil closed her eyes and took a deep breath, then made the ugliest face known to man because all she could smell was the smog of cars and not mountain air, but she wasn’t in Alaska anymore and she’d have to remind herself of that a few more times before she got back into her routine again. The cargo facility was busy, but most of the workers were nice and had gotten used to the tiny woman who came in every few months with a pack of dogs that cumulatively weighed more than her. She already missed Alaska, she missed the mountains and the space and all the dark trees, but most of all she missed her dad, on a lesser note she missed her annoying brothers. The summer had been nice and far too short, everyone came together to celebrate their mother’s birthday before they went their separate ways for the rest of the year. Sybil stayed longer though, agreeing to help her father deal with a pack of wolves that had begun to plague the villages that were north of the property. It took a month of baiting and tracking, picking off one or two of the wolves at a time was tricky because of their intelligence and their sheer terror when they howled their revenge in the night. It had been a nightmare, those howls...the dark..the villages…

“Miss. Weston!” One of the cargo facility attendants got her attention and it shook her free from her trance, they sent one lonely guy to drag five heavy duty kennels on a flatbed hand cart, it made her shake her head as she went over to him.

“Lemme help you, I parked right out front here.” She took the handle in one of her hands and helped the grateful attendant pull the cart through the door, heading into the cool evening air. Her truck, a gorgeously deep blue 1976 Chevy Bonanza with a camper shell that was the same shade, was waiting for her and Sybil was ready to get the hell out of dodge. “Here, I can load it from here.” She handed over a twenty and nodded when the guy told her where to put the cart once she was done with it, waving goodbye to him as he headed back into the building. “Alright boys and girls, let's get this show on the road…”

King was first to be released from his crate as she collapsed the crate down flat, “Oh what a big stretch huh? Here, get in the front seat, oldest gets in front this time.” She opened up the passenger door, watching him jump in and settle into the blankets she kept up there, just for the spoiled King himself. Before she started on the next four, Sybil stopped to open the double doors on the back of the camper shell and check inside to make sure nothing had been broken into and trashed. It looked clean as it could be with five dogs trasping mud and every germ known to man into the compartment. Sarabi came next and sprinted into the cab of the truck when Sybil snapped her fingers, wedging her body past King’s to sit in the middle of the bench seat, she had to shake her head at her, “Queen Bitch” for a reason. Sigurd and Widow were next, both jumping into the camper shell to tuck into the old blankets that covered the floor so they could rest from the excitement of the long plane ride. Searcher was last, she had to stop and give the floppy eared baby some love before helping the lanky adolescent dog into the back. “Everyone comfy? Good, I wish someone else could drive us home but no one else has thumbs.” She sighed and packed the crates into the space left by her few pieces of luggage before closing the doors. The hand cart was put away and Sybil got behind the wheel, looking down at the two dogs who occupied the bench seat alongside her.

“Yeah.. Me too.” The truck roared to life and she headed out of the lot, aiming to go home and just rest, rest till she was a whole new person.

Arthur, Oliver

”No, it’s fine.”
The boy simply said when the girl of her dreams apologized about making him worried, and he really meant it. He really cared about the girl and didn’t mind doing things for her whether it was taking care of her or worrying over her or recording her friend touching a crab… okay the last one was something he could have passed on but since Arthur had asked so nicely he couldn’t let her down.

Niila started patching Arthur’s finger. He could have sworn that Arthur’s face turned red at some point but the boy must have imagined that, Instead he focused on what he was doing. He took the old bandage off and used some antiseptic while apologizing for the pain. It didn’t take too long, in fact Niila wouldn’t have minded holding her hand. “All done.” He said as let her hand go grudgingly. A sweet smile rose upon his lips when he heard her thank you. It was so sweet and he would happily go through whatever trouble to hear it again.

Niila smiled again as Arthur started to babble about the crab excitedly. She talked cheerfully about how Oliver could say hi to the crab, and Niila could start recording once the younger boy was ready. The younger boy seemed thoroughly unamused with Arthur's cheeriness. He grimaced, turning his head aside and said he wouldn’t say hi to it. Soon after that Oliver spoke some more, saying he was ready. Arthur could open the ice chest that holds the crab inside. Niila took that as a sign and searched for his phone, ready to start recording.

“Okay, I will start recording now.” Niila said before he pushed his phone’s video recording button. Arthur spoke again in a cheerful tone as she greeted the crab. Oh how much Niila just loved that sweet cheerful tone of hers. He really wanted her to speak in that tone to him too. Wait… was he feeling jealous for a freaking crab? Well that was dumb. Niila tried his best to not shake his head and focused on the recording process. “Go, Oliver, you can do it!” He said while trying to force a cheerful and encouraging tone in his speech. IIn actuality he did it only to change his attention away from Arthur before he did something embarrassing.

TL;DR Oliver's mom is kinda pleasant when she wants to be. Somehow that makes it worse..
tl;dr
Eileen Dreyfuss
The dark I know well.

"A firefighter..." Eileen slightly raised her eyebrows and brought her hand to her mouth for a moment, impressed with the title. "How brave of you." Firefighters were always so damn attractive, now weren't they?

With Alistair gone to check on his lady friend, Eileen was more than content to make a polite conversation with Nolan. She didn't get out nearly as much as she'd like, and if both of their dates had since absconded, might as well get to know each other.

Her face fell at the sound of the word 'family.' Nolan and Liv didn't have kids of their own already, surely... and Eileen didn't want to even think about hers. Perhaps he only meant extended family, or something along those lines. Not that Eileen had much to relate to on that front, either-- her own parents had both passed on years ago, and she hadn't spoken to any of her other relatives in many years by now. She much preferred the quiet and anonymity of Anchor Bay.
"It is a beautiful town, yes." She concurred, taking a long sip of her champagne. She already felt like she was most likely going to need a few of these...

"Oh, what do I do? I work the front desk at the urgent care center in Barnstable." While Eileen did not enjoy her job, it was as good an excuse as any to get away from her decrepit apartment and unloveable children. It paid the bills... barely, but it was as good as she could do on her own. Her second daughter Lori's part-time job at a dress shop would sometimes cover the rent if it was a bad month. Though oftentimes they did not, Eileen was committed to giving off the appearance that she had enough to get by. "It's not much, but if you ever need that sort of thing, I'd be happy to check you in."

Nolan's comment from earlier kept pressing at the corners of her mind as she finished off her glass of champagne. She decided that it couldn't hurt to ask. If he said yes, then perhaps she could at least find out a little more about whatever situation was happening in this interesting young man's life, But more to the point, if he said no, then that was another reason why he might want to forget his wedding ring at home sometime...
"You have a family, you said? I don't mean to pry, but you and your wife look so young..."

TL;DR Arthur won't take the pepper spray Oliver stole unless he faces his fears first. Touch a crab, arm the populace. A pretty reasonable exchange, right? ...Right?
tl;dr
Oliver Dreyfuss
How lonely it is, to be drowning in a place where everyone can swim

"Get on my side so you don't get hurt and you can touch it from behind okay? It won't even know you're touching it."

But Oliver froze and didn't respond, so Arthur pulled him closer to her by his sleeve, despite his protests.
He never liked being touched, especially unexpectedly, and even just ending up this physically close to someone he only just met was deeply uncomfortable. He glanced over at Niila, who had stepped off to the side to film the situation, and in his blind panic he almost wanted to ask if there was any possibility that Niila could take his place and touch the crab instead.

Oliver started to say he didn't want to do it anymore, but he only stuttered wordlessly as Arthur reached into the chest and scooped up the crab like it was nothing. As soon as he saw its flailing spiderlike legs, he felt his heart plunge into his stomach and the floor beneath him start to tilt and threaten to throw him off balance.
He already wanted nothing more than to slam the lid back on the box and run away, but he didn't.
He kept reminding himself that he had to do this.
Just two seconds. Two seconds and then it would be over, Arthur would take her pepper spray, and he'd never have to touch a crab again in his life.

Two seconds.
One...

With just two fingers, Oliver slowly reached out blindly, not wanting to open his eyes. If he didn't let himself look at the crab, he could just pretend he was touching something else, right?
Wrong.
Crab shells were cold and damp and felt exactly how he thought it was going to. He suppressed a gag, his fingers tensing up and fighting against his instincts to not immediately pull away. Two seconds, right? That's barely even enough time for--
But then it moved.
Arthur never said it was going to MOVE. Wasn't she holding onto it!?
His eyes snapped open, but by the time he saw it break out of Arthur's hold and scuttle to the other side of the ice chest, it was already trying to scramble its way back to crawl up his sleeve, all ten of its tiny legs grabbing the side of his wrist to propel itself up his arm.
His poor heart just about stopped.
...Two.
His eyes rolled back and he dropped to the floor like a ragdoll.

She squeezed his hand before pulling it away and it summed up perfectly how their whole relationship had felt, she’d tease him and when he wanted it the most she would pull away. Like it never happened.
The distance between them now felt much greater as she took a few steps back, she snorted and told him what he had just asked her, that she was in fact going insane. He couldn’t help but grin softly as he was still holding onto the rail as he looked at the ground for a second.

Her turning around suddenly made Alistair look up, staring right into her brown eyes again. She spoke softly but her words were clear and direct, she hated him. He kept staring at her, now with a slight frown, looking back at the almost empty champagne glass.
For once in his life he didn’t feel offended by someone telling him they hated him, like he knew she didn’t mean it. Alistair wanted to open his mouth but didn’t know what to say, or what do. It felt impossible.

The soft music playing in the background reminded him of what was happening in the real world, for a minute it sucked him out of this bubble filled with confusion and attraction, maybe even more than just lust; love.
Before Alistair could’ve thought about something to say, she surpassed him. Make me fall for you, she spoke. In the same whisper and air she just breathed, said it just like that. Alistair looked at her speechless but knew exactly what he wanted to say, he fell for her too. Just as hard and it was just as inconvenient as it had been for her.

‘I guess. . I have my ways,’ he spoke slowly with a now vague teasing smile, moving the little crows next to his eyes. ‘I fell for you too,’ he added softly, thinking carefully about every word he spoke to her, as if knowing how important it was.
Alistair slowly held out his hand again, moving a bit forward across the rail. ‘I mean, I keep thinking in my head how I shouldn’t have fallen for you and how I thought it was meaningless but the nights with the wine and the stupid french cheese,’ he tilted his head before speaking, hoping she would accept his crazy rambling.

‘I’m also getting the slight feeling you’re mad at me,’ he then brought out. Addressing the elephant in the room was necessary before he’d try to grab her hand again, Alistair had a hard time grasping on why she stepped away and created this distance. She fell for him right? Was it really a good thing? Alistair waited before adding something that could make it any worse and bit his lip, while playing with the plastic glass in his hand. 'And I thought about it while running after you like a mad man but I can't figure out by the love of god why you're mad at me.' And there he said it anyway.

Arthur says. . . .

Oliver was doing it..he was facing his fear..it didn't come to her attention that she was looking at his hand not the crabs claws or how dangerously close it was to her hand that Niila just patched up. Then Oliver touched it which made Arthur proud! She didn't expect the crab to go on and knick her once more resulting in her letting go of the crab.

Shit.

She didn't even make a sound to the crab clawing her she was more worried about Oliver and his overall health. The crab started crawling up onto Oliver and Arthur quickly grabbed it and Oliver that was passing out. Arthur was fairly calm throughout the whole thing, not surprising for her. As Oliver and her slide to the floor, luckily the ice chest was close by so she placed the crab in and closed the lid. "Okay that didn't go as planned.." she sighed and looked over at Niila laughing. "Can you help Oliver up with me? I'm not that strong in the arm region ya know" she said as she gave up trying to stand up herself.

Now looking at it... the situation was a bloody mess.

Ow ow ow..

Was all she was thinking besides the crab, besides Oliver, besides...Niila. Once Niila helped pick up Oliver the only thing she was worried about was her hand yet again bleeding on everything. When she got off the floor she had subconsciously put her hands behind her back before Niila could see. Maybe he forgot and would only focus on something else? Would he be mad that she's trying to keep her pain from him? Why was she anyway? ...probably because she doesn't want to worry him more. Or feel like she's one of those pick me girls- disgusting. She wasn't trying to beg for attention..even if she kind of wanted Niilas attention most times she didn't want to admit that. Nor did she want to admit the fact that she want to feel his touch longer than a minute. Life wasnt being fair or kind to the girl unfortunately.

She could only hope Niila didn't notice. Now- she wasn't sure how to wake a passed out person. She didn't want to just slap him awake or pour water on him. She didn't want him to hate her. "Maybe we could just sit here till he wakes up or something? Ooh or I could go let the crab out where I found it really quick and come back while you watch him...hmm or.. I don't like that idea of leaving you..I just got to see you" she said pouting slightly. "What should we do then? Because I don't know" she said glancing down at that damned ice chest.

Fucking Crab got us into this mess..

Nolan glances over his shoulder again as if to catch his wife walking back towards him. When he doesn't see her, he turns back towards Eileen, still a small smile on his face. Nolan knew how to hide his feelings.

We all do our part. Nolan shrugs, he was never one to easily accept compliments. His humility is one thing that Liv was drawn to. Even you, I'm sure you know more than most, but urgent care can get a little crazy. You do your part.

Eileen's question has Nolan raising his eyebrows as he realizes where her misunderstanding came from. Oh no, Liv and I don't have kids...yet. The yet hesitates on his tongue, but Nolan couldn't find anyone else that he wanted to settle down with. Liv's family is here and my parents are in Rhode Island, so not far. He places his half empty champagne glass on the tray of a server who was walking by. He didn't want to drink anymore and expose himself to those around him more than needed. Liv's brother had a few kids, we tend to treat them like our own. And there's some kids that we've, I guess, taken under our wing. That's what our family is right now.

He didn't know whether or not to tell Eileen the workings of his relationship, because how do you explain that? Olivia wasn't a bad wife. He wasn't a bad husband. The two of them were just an unconventional couple, that didn't make them any less of a good couple. Nolan's insecurities are eating him from the inside out. Do you have family?

I fell for you too

Her breath catches in her throat and for a moment it felt like the world froze. She was surprised that he remotely felt the same way for her, she thought this was some meaningless hook up that they needed when the universe would let them. But maybe deep down she knew, she knew that their late night meetings tracing each other's tattoos, kissing, drinking wine, and eating stupid French cheese meant something more.

She can't stop herself from stepping closer to him, her fingers twiddling with each other as she did. You're the one who decided on the French cheese. The wine was good though. She shrugs then smiles at him, looking like an enamored teenage girl with a crush. Her behavior also exhibited that of an enamored teenage girl. Seeing him with Eileen had broken something inside her, she saw how easy it could be for Alistair to pick anyone else. Someone who could have all of him and he could have all of them, no obstacle in their way. Those thoughts also angered Olivia because she didn't know why she allowed herself to feel this way. She was married to an amazing man, who cared for her and helped her through the darkest times she's been through. Nolan Marriott was her soulmate.

So what the hell was Alistair Hawley. He had gotten her to get jealous over some mediocre middle aged woman, a feeling she also felt when he talked about his "friend" Logan. I'm not mad at you per se, I. guess I'm...I– Liv takes a deep breath, ashamed to even be admitting this to Alistair. I'm fucking jealous. And I have no right to be, I'm being unfair to you and I know you must hate me. The guilt is tearing her apart as she looked at his open hand, yearning to hold it again. Yearning to be somewhat of a couple in the privacy of that balcony. But how could he want to when she couldn't love only him unconditionally?

She shrugged with a playful smile after telling him the wine was good, on Alistair’s face now appearing a big smile. Liv had stepped forward and Alistair caught a whiff off her perfume, feeling much more comfortable in just seconds.
‘I mean, it looked good when I saw it laying there but I guess you can never really trust cheese,’ Alistair replied, wanting to grab her hand but instead stepped a little closer to her, having them now stand only a few inches apart.

Alistair saw her struggling to tell him what was really going on, she took a deep breath and he followed her gaze to his hand, still waiting to be held by her.
‘Guess you’re what?’ He said, trying to finish her sentence until she actually did. Revealing she was jealous, Olivia was jealous of Eileen? It was what he was trying to achieve but it still came as a surprise. He didn’t think she would’ve been feeling bad about it but it also felt good, it was how Alistair had felt all along with her and Nolan. He wanted Olivia for himself, to lay with her and to not have her go home each and every morning after an amazing night. It started to feel like he was her little secret and he was not anybody's secret ever, if anything it had always been the other way around.

‘Liv,’ he mumbled a few times before now grabbing her hand again and pulling her even closer. ‘I’m not mad at you, I-‘ He couldn’t tell her he was happy she was feeling the same way, how could he ever tell her that all he wanted was to do everything she did with Nolan. Alistair wanted to tell her why he brought Eileen, just to make her and Logan feel something but didn’t want her to hate him and he was sure if he had told her he only brought Eileen to have them realize what they were missing she wouldn't be happy. Liv was a big mystery to him but of this he was sure.

‘I don’t see Eileen like I see you,’ he continued, squeezing her hand. ‘I could never hate you, even if you keyed my car and you know how much I love my car.’ Alistair looked at her with a starting smile, the muted music still hearable from outside. ‘I know maybe you’re not in the mood for it, but you did promise me that dance, remember?’ Alistair asked her, placing one arm underneath hers, pulling her a bit closer hoping she would cheer up. ‘I can’t promise I won’t kiss you after it though.’

For the first time Alistair felt like he had clarity, she wanted him as much as he wanted her. Alistair felt his stomach turn a little, which could have been the codeine or emotions he had never felt quite before. He had girlfriends before Liv and most of them were casual hookups, the only one who had ever truly loved him was Jane but that boat had sailed a long time ago. This time things could be different.

Isabella
the drug dealer teddy bear
Isa doesn't remember how or why she was here. All she knows is that she needed to forget. She needed to forget everything that was Isabella Edison-Rose. Being Isa was too much. She wanted to forget who she was, and who she loved. She made a mistake kissing Liz, and she knew it. Kissing Liz was something she could have prevent. It was an impulse, something that didn't need to happened. She could have done something else to stop her, anything else, from killing Jed. She just couldn't stop her from going, only thing she could think to do is kiss her. Letting her know her true feelings...and this in turn made her broken without repair. Cause what Liz didn't do was anything, she just stood there. She just stood there like it was nothing. So Isa ran, and Liz didn't chase her.

First she went to Matthew's, to grab her shit, and then she went to a splace that she knows that she shouldn't have gone to. She went to Key's place. Isa was just going to drop off her last supplies of drugs that she had, and tell him to make sure her family was safe but he...wanted her to stay. So she did. She stayed and took drugs. Eventually it became days and days turned into weeks. Weeks, she had been using drugs as an escape. Weeks without end to the drug use. Kieran just kept watch as she binged on drugs. It didn't matter what it was. She just wanted to forget who she was for a moment.

She didn't want to be Isabella Edison-Rose, she didn't want to be an orphan at 18. Isa wanted her mother to love her again, hell, she wanted Liv to be her mother. She wanted Nolan to be her father. Isa already considered them as her parents but they didn't want her. No one wanted her. Chance didn't need her, he had Frankie. Max didn't need her, he had Lemon and Chance. Ivy...well she does but Isa had people in place to check on her just in case.

Most of all, Bear didn't want her...not in the way Isa wanted her. She had Carson, perfect fucking Carson. Someone, Isa could never be.

Isa just wanted to be wanted. She wanted to needed. She wanted someone to chase after her again and want her. She wanted someone to fucking stay for one and of course with the big shit that is her life. That didn't happened. What did was the same thing that Isa knew since the beginning, no one truly ever gives a shit.

So Isa is gonna sit here, and she's going to forget about her life and the people she loves. Because it hurts to love them right now. It hurts to be Isa. She grabs a water and drowns it with her special candy and waits. Key standing by her side, waiting for her. She knew that he wanted her back, and right now she can't be his when she's someone else. When her heart is gone.

But maybe he can have the pieces.

The dark I know well.

"Do you have family?"

Well, there it was. That age-old question. How should she answer it today? She had thousands of different answers for different circumstances.
Eileen's smile wavered, her grip tightening on the stem of her empty glass. She stood quiet for a second, carefully feeling through every muscle of her body to make sure that the act was perfect.
She wasn't going to lie. Oh, no, never-- shocking as it was, Eileen rarely lied.
She was just going to present the truth exactly the way she wanted to.

"Why, yes... yes I do." She cleared her throat and started slowly, carefully. "My husband disappeared a few years ago. It's just me and my four children now. Three girls and a boy. My boy has... special needs, but I'm doing what I can for them all."
That was all that Nolan needed to know for now.
'Struggling single mother'... it was the truth. Not the whole truth, but no one really ever tells the whole truth.

It was clear that Nolan had bits of his truth that he hadn't shared quite yet.
An even playing field.

"I'm just glad they're all a little older now. My second-oldest usually watches out for the younger two, so every now and again I still get out on my own." Her fingers traced the rim of her glass contemplatively. "I wouldn't have been able to do something like this even last year." A calm sigh escaped her, and she looked back up into Nolan's eyes. "If you and your wife ever decide to have children, take it from me-- no matter what, it gets better. It doesn't have to be the end of anything." Satisfied with her response, she decided to shift the topic of conversation to something that could lead somewhere more interesting. "I have to wonder though, are you any good at dancing? I minored in dance at university, actually..."

Don't stress, don't falter

''Sorry Titty Boy!'' Was the mortified squeak of Jo before scrambling back to the safety of Alexei's Apartment. She was such an idiot. It was the day of the Regatta, and she'd just started it by startling Alexei's neighbor and his girlfriend-not girlfriend by suddenly opening the door to reveal herself in all her hickey ladden walk of shame glory. She wasn't even certain that he knew she was wearing something underneath the shirt. If Alexei had been there with her, she was certain they all would have been able to laugh it off. Unfortunately he had this absurd need to ''work and make a living''. If he needed time away from her he could have just said so instead of having to get a job to avoid being with her 24/7 like she might have preferred. No matter that she herself actually had a job too, that wasn't the same. Truth be told she'd quit the bookstore in a heartbeat if she could afford to. With suspicious coworkers, perfume covered books, and cleaning spunk off the bathroom it wasn't exactly as enjoyable as baking.

She wandered around the apartment for a bit, cleaning everything in sight. Alexei was so messy, far more than she thought possible. It was as if he was personally challenging her capabilities as a cleaner by mucking up his house as much as possible. And she rose every single time much to her delight.

As she rushed to prepare for the regatta, curling, applying makeup, putting on the dress and such it was with more of a tumble and grumble than she used to have when she prepared for events at home. It wasn't natural to dress anything more than casual anymore. The twirly light feel of the dress made her happy, feeling like a princess and such but she felt somewhat bad. Like some sort of poser trying to look classy. With a frown, she turned away from the mirror.

Though Alexei had said he would pick her up, feeling a little antsy, she decided to meet him at the source. He surely wouldn't mind her dropping by the coffee shop for breakfast beforehand would he? She just had to be careful to not spill anything on her dress or she'd be miserable all night long. Resolved, she strode outside, prepared to meet her love at his place of work. Never mind that she much preferred savoury breakfast like they served at the diner, Alexei didn't have to know that ever.

Upon arriving, she tapped on the shoulder of one of the barista's. ''Hey, can you bring Alexei out please?'' The redhead nodded, having witnessed more of the couple's relationship than she would have liked with Jo's constant visits. “Thank you!” She called out, grinning madly when her boyfriend walked out. “Hey babe!” She leaned over the counter to rub his arm, the most she could do given the counter separating them. ''I have your clothes for the boat thingy here.'' She gestured to the backpack she was carrying that decidedly did not match her outfit.

Let us be young, let us be wild
until the summer's over
"Hey, guys! Come on in." Ralph Kennedy, a warm, jolly fellow, ushered the brothers inside to wait for his daughter to make her grand entrance. They'd have to wait a few more moments, as Jenelle was still scrambling around her room, putting the last few finishing touches on her look. She heard the boys arrive and smiled at her image in the mirror, fluffing her coppery red curls around one last time.

Truly, the redhead was bursting with excitement. It was crazy how different things were from just one month ago. Around this time last month, she was agonizing over her ill-fated hangout with Max and the kiss they'd shared, not to mention the painful sting of rejection that came with it. So who would have thought that things would turn around so drastically one ordinary day hanging out with her good friend, Dylan.

Truth be told, she always had a thing for her pretty, confident activist buddy. His brother hadn't escaped her gaze either, however; he was cute and funny and oh so handsome, though she never would have guessed he was into her. So of course Jenelle was shocked but elated when Vinnie asked her out that day when she was chilling at the Lowes' house. From there it was all a blur, as Jenny experienced so many firsts with him in such a short time--including the most important one: losing her V-card...finally. It was no wonder really, that she was rapidly growing quite attached to the handsome brunette boy.

Jenny scampered down the stairs just as her mother, Maritza, was gushing about her daughter's luck to have not one, but two handsome dates. She paused to do a few twirls for her parents, who fawned endlessly over their only daughter in her pretty pink dress, before rushing her boys to the door. "Mija! Let us get a picture at least," Maritza pouted at the escaping trio, making a grab for her phone. "Amá, we can't, we're late!" Jenelle fibbed, turning to give both her parents a goodbye kiss on the cheek before slipping out the door behind her dates. "Byeee!"

Jenelle finally got a chance to look the two boys over on the walk to Vinnie's car, letting out a little squeal of delight at the sight of Dylan's whimsical ensemble. "Dilly!" She squeaked, throwing her arms around Dylan to give him an affectionate squeeze before reaching up to adjust the jaunty blue hat atop his halo of dark curls. "You look amazing!"

She turned to Vinnie just as they reached the car, slipping her arms around him to press a quick kiss to his soft lips. One could practically see the stars glittering in her eyes for the boy as she looked up at him, her deep green gaze sparkling with pure adoration. "You look so handsome, Vinvin," Jenny giggled softly with blushed cheeks, tenderly adjusting his shirt collar and the lapels of his blazer.

Please tell me how the fuck
I'm supposed to deal with losing you
Fuck, he was late. The boat regatta was already underway, and Nona was probably waiting for him. Dustin had just finished a shift at his father's shop and had rushed home to shower and get ready for the party. Luckily, his mother hadn't left for the restaurant yet. He caught a ride with her, happy that he wouldn't have to board to the pier in his suit and lug the thing around with him all night.

Once he was dropped off by the waterfront, Dustin broke into a jog towards the docked boat. Winnie had some plans or other with Max later that night, so he was itching to get on board quickly and find his girlfriend so he could spend as much time with her as possible. He wasn't happy that Nona had made plans with Max over spending the evening with him, but there wasn't anything he could do except bicker with her about it, so why bother? The only upside was she wouldn't be around to witness his drunken antics later on, as Dustin knew he'd most likely end up hanging with Vinnie, and his longtime pal just had a way of persuading him to drink way more than he knew he should.

When he hurried up the gangplank and finally burst through the boat's entrance, Dustin quickly scanned the crowd, running a hand through his mop of perpetually tousled, sandy curls. It didn't take long for him to spot her, as she appeared to be looking around for someone as well. He wondered for a moment if it was him she was searching for so intently, or somebody else. It made him think of Vinnie's constant flirting with her, and a wave of annoyance washed over him. Dustin quickly chased it out if his mind though, as he just wanted to spend the time he had with his girlfriend without forcing any bad vibes on her.

"Nono!" Jogging up to Winona, Dustin pulled the ballerina into his arms to cover her face in a hundred kisses, followed by one more upon her full, glossy lips. "Wowzaaaa...babe, you look beautiful," He pulled back to look her over, his dark eyes wide, as if to better soak up the sight of her. Truly, Dustin was always just as stunned by her beauty every time he saw her, as if it was the first time all over again. "Missed you," Dustin grinned, one hand lovingly tucking a lock of raven hair behind her ear, handing Nona the red rose he was clutching with the other.

Faith
the perfectionst sofie
Faith looks in the mirror, she looked beautiful in the dress she had picked for the boat regatta but she felt like nothing special. Ellie had decided to go with her and her parents, to at least show that they were a completely happy family. In reality, it was far from that. She was in a prison that she couldn't get out of, and to make the matter worse, she placed herself there in the first place. She had a choice and she chose to protect the people she loved by removing herself from their lives almost completely. Faith had seen what Ellie can do, and she knows that she would make good on the threat that she made to her. So here she was, pretending to love a woman that couldn't care less about her. Pretending to be the perfect daughter when she's not. She sighed as she looks down. She just wanted it to all end. She was tired of pretending for once but she will for the people she loves. For Winnie and Frankie.

"Faith, come on! I don't want you to make us late anymore then we already are!" Ellie yelled from the downstairs.

Her parents had already gone ahead and left for the boat regatta. Ellie and her still needed to get ready. Faith shouts "I'm coming down." as she grabs her bag and goes down the steps. Ellie looks at her with a smirk as Faith comes down to her. She can tell that she was pleased with how she looked. At least she wouldn't have anything back to say about this outfit.

"Look, how well you can clean up. Why can't you be this perfect all the time, I wouldn't get so mad you know. " Ellie says smirking.

Faith fakely smiles and nods. Ellie held her arm out for her, as they walk through the door into the limo, and they headed. After 15 minutes of driving, they finally get there. Ellie in the car, had given Faith pointers on what to say and who to talk to. She was pretty clear on the trouble she would be in if this didn't go like she wanted it to. They walk in, arm in arm, and head to her parents who had given them looks of approval which was rarity for her. So she was trying her best to be the perfect daughter so that wouldn't leave their face. Faith looks around while smiling as Ellie and her parents talked business with one of their partners, and she spots Winnie and instantly smiles wider. Seeing the girl she cared so much about, always made her smile a little brighter but she frowns as Dustin runs up to her.

It's not like she hasn't noticed that Winnie has been off in their secret meetings. Faith suspects it's because of dustpan and if it is, she will punch the living shit out of that boy. She warned him before, don't hurt her Winona and they can be....acquaintances, meaning she doesn't punch the living daylights out of him whenever she sees him. Out of nowhere, she feels a nudge and turns back into the conversation with her parents. She glanced at Ellie who had a frown on her face as she noticed that Faith wasn't paying attention. Faith just whispers "Sorry, was distracted by how many people are here. It's a bigger turnout then last year for sure El." She hopes that Ellie would buy that, which in surprise she did so Faith was safe. One of the partners had turned to asked her, how did she get engaged so young and luckily to Ellie to all people.

Faith just smiles and laughs explaining how they met in their year away adding in the end "I just know that I love her...she's what I deserve in my life. " She fakely shows happiness while hiding the truth. The truth that she needs to keep for the ones she loves.

Hold my heart, it's beating for you anyway
Even though it was almost a daily occurance by now, Alexei was still thrilled hear his girlfriend had come to visit him at work. This day, however, was special. It was the day of the fancy boat regatta, and the baker wasn't prepared to see his lady already dolled up in her party dress. Elated by such a sight, he couldn't resist jogging out to meet her, as a quick peck leaning over the counter simply wouldn't do right now.

"Princeeeess!" Alexei pulled her into a careful hug, tenderly kissing her forehead. "You look like a princess, princess!" He released her quicker than he would've liked, so not to rumple up her pretty dress or smear any grease or flour from his work clothing onto her. The blonde fellow was aware he could be dangerously close to wearing out the word "princess" by now, making Josephine sick of hearing it forever, though he still couldn't stop himself from saying it. "I mean, you look beautiful," He smiled sheepishly, placid blue eyes gleaming with adoration.

"Look at that, ya can't even see 'em," Alexei teased, curling a finger under her chin to lift Jo's head and playfully search her for any sign of hickies or marks on her neck and decolletage. Josephine seemed to be an expert at covering those up at this point. "You gonna hang out for a while?" He asked, giving Jo's lips a quick kiss before releasing his gentle grasp on her chin. "Want something to eat? What can I get you, my princess?"

He got Josephine's food order squared away, and left her curled up in one of the comfy chairs with her book so he could finish his work. By the time his shift had ended, the couple still had some time to kill. Alexei convinced Josephine to stop at his apartment so he could take a quick shower, as it was pretty much guaranteed he'd finish work covered in a layer of sweat mixed with flour plus random splatters and grime to form a stubborn paste that he always had to put some effort into scrubbing off.

The couple arrived at the pier just in time, maybe even a bit early, as the party was still fairly quiet and just getting underway. Alexei grabbed a couple champagne flutes that were offered to him by a server, handing one of them to Jo with a clink of his own glass as he gently tapped it against hers. "Cheers, princess. Thanks for being my date for this boujie shit," He grinned, taking a thoughtful sip from his glass.

"Ugh. Not feeling this."
Sunny said at her own reflection. She had mentioned to Jesse about buying a new set of lingerie and she hoped to showcase that to him, but now that she actually wore it… she didn’t feel good about it. The lingerie set was cherry red and full of extravagant lace details. It looked sorta good against her complexion and blemish free skin. However it wasn’t perfect. She could hear her step mother’s voice in her head. Saying stuff like how she should stop eating sweets and do more sports. How she would need to lose some weight.

Sunny frowned her lips, not sure what to do about the situation. Sure she could try out a different set of lingerie but it wouldn’t fix the problem. It wouldn’t fix her body. Sunny decided to let it be. If she ended up doing it today with Jesse, maybe they could do it in a dark lightning. She didn’t want to keep staring at her half naked ugly body. Not only that but she started to feel cold since the air conditioning was on. Sunny put on a pretty dress and pair of expensive heels. It made her feel a little better about herself. She wasn’t an ugly girl even if she looked like a pile of mud compared to the flowers her other family members were.

Sunny made some last minute fixes on her makeup like adding a little bit of highlighter and putting on some more lipstick. She smiled at her makeup and seeing the result of her hard work made her feel even better. She would be having fun today with the handsome Jesse Casablancas, her own insecurities couldn’t stop her from that. Sunny took her crossbody bag from the stool that had a smallish pile of clothes. The boy would be there in a minute.

And as if he had heard her thoughts, the doorbell rang. Sunny ran to the downstairs as fast as she could with the heels on. She opened the door and here he was: as handsome as ever. “Hii, Jesse! I missed you.” She started babbling and quickly hugged the boy. “Do you wanna have a kiss? The lipstick I’m wearing is matte liquid lipstick so it wont leave any marks.” She then continued smiling brightly.

TL;DR: Tabs tries out a new lewk
tl;dr
Tabitha Carter
I wanna do the things that you only read about
Tabitha was sure Jacob was avoiding her after their dreadfully awkward "date" at the Independence Day party. Whatever, it was to be expected really. So why did it feel so bad? After all, she was stupid to think a boy could actually be interested in her. Boys liked trampy vixens like Claire Malkovich and tall, modelesque babes like Mariah.

Normally, such a disappointment and blow to her self esteem would have Tabitha crying in her room and binge eating, but she decided, just this once, to try something different. She was going to get a classy (slutty) cocktail dress with the highest heels she could (sort of) walk in, and she'd go to the boat thingie this year. Alone. Why not challenge herself--what was the worst thing that could happen? She'd make a fool of herself in front of the entire town? Okay, maybe it was better not to think about the worst that could happen.

Tabitha went to her mother, a hair stylist, for help with the rest of her look. Beth Carter was so excited to help her daughter, and downright ecstatic that Tabs was taking more of an interest in her appearance, that she agreed to not bombard her with questions about who or what prompted the change. Beth gave Tabitha's chocolate brown locks some sexy curtains bangs with a bouncy, silky blowout, curling the ends slightly. And she made up her face so expertly that the girl finally looked like she could pass for her own age, maybe even a few years older.

So Tabs found herself teetering around the boat in her heels, bra stuffed to high heaven. To her pleasant surprise, it was stupidly easy to grab a drink at this thing; just smile and look somewhat confident while swiping a flute of champagne from the servers' trays. It didn't take long for her to get buzzed on the stuff, as it was her first ever taste of alcohol, not to mention her tiny stature. And there was no way Tabs was going to eat anything before putting that dress on, lest she feel like a sausage stuffed into its casing, despite how razor thin she actually was. But Tabitha didn't stop there; she was feeling good, so she downed yet another glass of bubbly.

About three glasses in, Tabitha was glancing around hopefully while trying to appear nonchalant, praying someone, anyone she knew would come up and save her from akwardly standing alone like a loser. What she saw instead was the unmistakable wild, curly mane of Claire Malkovich bouncing after her as queen bitch pranced around the deck with those two bitchy freshman in tow; the mean girls that would say weird things on Twitter and insult everyone by purposefully getting their names wrong. Ordinarily, Tabitha would run far away from such a trio. But right now she was filled with Dutch courage, and Tabs found herself stomping right over to them.

She glared at the other girl, the mean girl that just loved to torment Mariah. And Tabs could only sit quietly and watch every time, terrified she'd receive the same treatment if she ever spoke up and defended her best friend. But now suddenly faced with her enemy, Tabs finally realized she hadn't prepared anything to say before stomping over.

"Hey! You--I--" Tabitha stammered a bit, groping around her alcohol-soaked brain for some scathing words. "You need to leave Mariah alone from now on. What has she ever done to you?" She slurred, oblivious to how unintimidating she looked wobbling unsteadily in her heels. "Just leave her alone or you'll be sorry."

This was met with an eyeroll from Claire, cracking an amused smirk at the drunken mess attempting to threaten her. "Oh, honey. If you're gonna get wasted, why don't you just join us before you hurt yourself?"

TL;DR The gremlins discuss the possibility of Ashley hoe-ing it out
tl;dr
Ashley Park
I can feel us slip away, you're almost gone

Ashley had.............not been having a super fun sexy time this summer. Of course with Sister Bestie she'd managed to have a shitload of fun, but most other aspects were really lame. Dustin was falling for Winnie even more, and she for him. They'd had a dumb fight and stopped talking for a week when she hit a nerve by poking fun at his boyfriend capabilities, though they made up over DMs and he'd even given her a horseshoe pin as an apology for saying he didn't wanna see her. It was currently pinned to the handbag she was carrying in place of her usual ratty backpack. Then of course there was the UTI from Cody S, and the scare but that was so last week.

Now, she was at the regatta looking like a fool with Sister Bestie and her favorite Malkobitch. As they did at every town event the gremlins had devised how to get into a little mischief, and since Malkobitch had been spurned by one of her many mans Ashley asked her to tag along and get wasted. Now, they were glancing at the flamingo hat of a Mrs Kowalski, who's hat Ashley had coveted. And truthfully she had a bit of an ulterior motive. The crabby old lady had called the girl a whore and other obscenities a great deal of times due to frustration with the Park family in general. Loss of her beloved hat would be the perfect revenge.

The only real issue she had as of now was her outfit. Due to John Park's scheme to propose to his girlfriend/Baby Mama, he found it important that his ''beloved'' daughter be dressed appropriately. So now she was in a ridiculous floor length dress that had been bought second hand, which was paired with an even more hideous glitter white cardigan. Ashley had made her own compromise by ditching the cardigan and tying it around her waist so she could still look stupid, only this time she'd get to scandalize the town with her bare shoulders.

Swiping another glass, Ashley took a sip with a dissatisfied hum. She felt like a traitor to her signature drink of Vodka and Kool Aid by tasting the champagne, plus there was only a tiny amount in the glass anyway. She'd much prefer to be downing a water bottle full of distilled Vodka like they'd done at summer camp. But C'est la vie.

As she began to start her next one liner about fucking a dolphin, she was cut off by the arrival of another girl. Carter Virgin, that weird waif child who hung around Oli all the time. Truthfully she'd never given that girl much thought before, thinking she was another sad little loser with no confidence whatsoever. It seemed as if something had chanced though, as she strode over to the group of girls with a sense of purpose. All she could do was stand there and wonder what the fuck was going on.

Her eyes however, immediately widened as she glanced down at nerd girl's figure. What the actual living fuck was going on with her tits? For one they were waaaaaaaaaaaay too big. For another they were kinda misshapen.

"Calm down Terabithia" Ashley chuckled, her hands resting on the pixie's shoulders in an attempt to steady her "You're not in a position to fight a bitch. Plus Ms. Slut over here's hurting right now, one of her boytoys ditched." She teased, wrapping an arm around the girl. "I gotta ask a question though."

Gesturing dramatically, she mimed holding up a microphone to the senior's face. "Ms Tabitha Carter, the people wanna know. Who told you your tits didn't look stuffed in that outfit? We could fix it if you wanna make them nerd boys howl at the moon."

when you wear a mask for so long, you forget who is behind it.

Harper was distracted, the whole point of tonight was to spend time with Max. And yet here she was, starring off into the crowds of people. Looking for the person who had taken all of her attention away from her friends. She wasn’t supposed to be like this, a guy wasn’t supposed to change everything for her.

Hmm? Harper’s eyes went wide as she turned her attention back to her friend in front of her. “Oh right.” She signed. “I almost forget we are on a boat sometimes. It’s just so big, if you couldn’t smell the sea it would just be like being on a porch I think.”

“But I understand why you’re uncomfortable…”
Harper smiled, she loved the ocean, and being out on the water. The stillness in the harbor always made her feel at home, relaxed, while the waves at the beach filled her with adrenaline, and excitement. Bringing back memories.

I’m fine” She signed with a soft smile on her face, she felt bad for drawing her attention away from her friend. He had obviously noticed too. “Just seeing if Hayden showed up yet.” Another lie… She was getting all to comfortable with lying to her friends.

We don’t have to. Food is always good to start with.” Harper smiled as she wandered over towards the buffet, Max walking in stride. She turned back towards Max as they reached the buffet. “I am glad to be spending time with you too.” She signed before she picked up a plate. Harper was relatively decent as sign language, but still signing with one hand, while carrying a plate of food felt like a challenge in it’s self. While Max seemed to have no problems with it.

Harper let out a chuckle at Max’s comment, junior prom had been so fun, Harper had taken Winnie, and since she hadn’t been allowed to take a second sophomore Harper had ‘forced’ Zach to bring Max. The four of them had so much fun together. Harper never really had expected what would change over the summer. What would they do when they went back to school. How long could they keep this up.

So much fun! You know, you will have to bring Zach to Junior prom this year. Full circle.” Harper laughed into her hand. “Couldn’t picture prom without you.”

never admit when you're wrong

Reid himself had never felt so nervous, he had ignored all these feelings for years. Thinking that Lemon could never want him, that he was too broken for her. That she needed someone stable, and caring. Someone who hadn’t fallen down…

His heart was beating so fast, he swore that she must have been able to hear it.

Lemon’s questions began to spill out of her mouth, with little to no time to respond. Reid wasn’t really sure what he wanted. Not even in his wildest dreams, did he expect Lemon to still have feelings for him. Still want to be with him after all these years and all he had done.

He screwed up his face as Lemon said ‘You wouldn’t even kiss me.’ Chuckling as she finished the sentence.

“Of course I didn’t kiss you.” He rolled his eyes. “You were drunk off your ass Lemon.” Reid pressed his palms against the wood floor behind him. Scooting himself closer to Lemon.

“How was I supposed to know that was what you really wanted?” He said quietly, catching her eyes as she looked down at her own lap.

He shook his head, his hair falling over his eyes, his hand ran through his black hair, pushing it back once again. “Lemon.” A small smirk crossing his lips. “Does this mean you want to date me?” He raised an eyebrow, though her questions still didn’t stop there.

“How could I get bored with you, when you have all these questions for me.” Rolling his eyes. Reid had always found Lemon interesting, she always had a story to tell, and her personality lit up a room when she walked in. She was full of excitement. Full of adventure. And so much drive. He could never be bored of her.

“Lemon.” He said again, a long drawl followed her name. “Sex isn’t everything in a relationship.” What did Reid really know though, he hadn’t really ever attempted to have a serious relationship, all of his teen years had been about hooking up, and making out behind the bowling alley or the church. “We can take it slow…” Reid sat there, trying to find the right words. He reached forward, cupping his hand around her cheek, he tipped her head up to meet his eyes so she could see he meant every word he said. “Lemon, I just want to be with you.”

TL;DR Ivy, her gremlin best friend, a drunk sad girl, and a hoe all get on a boat.

Ivy Dawkins
Don't threaten me with a good time

Ivy was having an absolute blast. Who knew stuffy old rich people parties could be so fun?
Granted, "boat regatta" was a bit of a misnomer. Apparently, a boat regatta is supposed to be a boat race. That's what this event had started out as, historically, but over the years it had gradually evolved into a more quiet sort of party, and no one had cared enough to stop calling it a boat regatta. That annoyed Ivy on principle-- she and Ashley had been half tempted to simply break apart the boat and let everyone race across the harbor on the debris, Titanic-style. Then maybe everyone could do a nude portrait. That was definitely what happened in that movie.

She'd found a dress for the occasion at a local thrift shop... she seemed to be going for a look that somehow read as both "rich 12-year-old girl's birthday party" and "pop star having a mental breakdown in public." A splash of glitter eyeshadow and bright purple worm earrings completed the outfit. Ivy didn't actually own dress shoes and couldn't be bothered to find any, so she'd be traipsing through the boat in her worn-out purple sneakers. Her outfit didn't provide much room for hiding little bottles, but someone had told her on Twitter that there would be complimentary champagne.
And in Anchor Bay, it seemed as though no one really took notice if a flock of teenage girls snagged a glass of champagne or 3.
What were they gonna do about it, call Ivy's parents?
Technically the state of Massachusetts was responsible for keeping Ivy safe and supported, but they certainly weren't doing a great job at it if she could just go gallivanting around the town, drinking and generally being a menace to herself and others.
Ivy didn't know any better than to rejoice in the freedom that negligence provided.

Ivy and Ashley were already caught up in their usual repartee, tossing crude jokes back and forth while they sipped their way through as much champagne as they could get their hands on. Ashley was right when she said it wasn't doing much... it was just rich-people wine soda. Ivy's general opinion on alcohol was that it should either taste good or get you really fucked up. If it did both, it was probably lethal and therefore the best, and if it did neither then it was no better than bottom-shelf dad beer.
But for now, if champagne was what they had, they were going to take advantage.

Cohorting with Claire, too, was also high on Ivy's agenda as school sports tryouts drew nearer. She and Ashley had been tossing around the idea of trying for cheer... the idea of starting out high school as a powerful cheer bitch was remarkably tantalizing. Ivy had never imagined herself doing it until now, but the idea of getting to wear the slutty uniform and getting flipped in the air like a pancake just sounded like a dream come true.
And since Claire was captain of the squad, they'd better get acquainted.

They were all having a good laugh when a very tipsy Tabitha wobbled her way over. Now, Ivy didn't know Tabitha that well. Mostly she knew her as being one of Turtle Boy's friends... a nerd, so to speak. But a nerd who was willing to get a little sloppy at a posh yacht party, so for now Ivy was willing to let her play.

Ashley wasted no time pointing out the poor girl's conspicuous chest. "Oh shush, Ashlieghgh..." Ivy finished off her friend's name with a fricative sound at the back of her throat. "Tammy looks fiiiine. It's giving 'funeral home prostitute'-- no, no wait, it's giving 'spy movie disguise.' But hey, you know what fixes a tragic boob job, though? A distraction." She couldn't resist being a little mean. It was driven deep into Ivy's very nature. The small girl rubbed her hands together like a supervillain, bouncing on her toes with excitement. "We gotta get you a hat. But first, we gotta get me a hat." The older ladies at the boat party, who had probably been coming to these since it was actually a boat race, had a tradition of wearing some particularly gaudy ridiculous hats. Ivy had heard legends told of a giant flamingo hat, owned by one sour old church lady.
She'd be doing the world a service by taking that hat into more deserving hands. Doing god's work.
"Whaddaya say, Tiffany? Want to go shopping for accessories?"
