Sean nodded and started down the ladder again. He was exhausted and tired of the pointless argument. As he passed Lachlan he gave him a quick look. His blue eyes were tired, sunken in and circled in black, but they had a familliar look in them. In that moment they looked the way they had all those years ago. Like when he pulled the trigger on that old Winchester. When he was on solid ground, standing in the darkness, he stepped out of the way. He backed up slowly until his back was flat against metal.

While everyone was conversing and talking with each other, she held onto Joey, hugging him as she sat, leaning against the wall and singing a lullaby to the boy, hoping to calm him down. Carter wasn't the best singer, but it wasn't like she was the worst. She rocked Joey side to side. 'I don't knw how he'll be able to sleep from what he's seen, but maybe he'll get to tired to keep his eyes open.' She thought, biting her lip roughly as she continued to sing. 'Maybe I should pray.' Carter hasn't prayed in awhile. She wasn't even sure if a God existed. And if there was, she wasn't sure vhe wanted to pray to that God. But it was better than nothing. 'Dear... God or who ever you are. If anyone's even there, please... Keep this boy safe. He'v been through unimaginable things and it isn't fair that a young soul should see so much. Keep the others safe as well. They're trying and doing well so far but please.. Try your best as well. Amen..' It was odd, 'speaking' to another thing that probably isn't there. Carter continued on with singing after the pause. It was quiet but easily heard if it was quiet.

"Carter, you next. Lachlan, you'll go down after her" Jason said, his M16A2 still tightly in his hands but lowered, and he looks around, keeping a eye out. Then, explosions, machine gun fire, off in the distance but not far. "Hope that's the sound of us winning this thing. Or, at least, postponing it." Jason said. "Maybe I'll go help. Go to Fort Benning and sign up with the new Army. But...I killed a marine on the way here for his shit, so I dunno how well that would work. And I am a deserter. So, second thought, maybe not. Maybe find a bunch of rebs and join up with them, after what the U.S. did to NYC, I'm totally up for putting them in their place" Jason found himself rambling, but didn't mind. Him talking was better than silence.

Lachlan stood up and breathed a heavy sigh as he moved toward the hatch. What the fuck did this kid know about humanity? He killed people without emotion, without giving them a chance. There was no room for mindless killing in the living. While Jason had been talking about the lack of humanity he had been squeezing on the legs of the chair he was on. He left a visible bend in the thin, hollow steel. He hoped Jason would fuck off back to the city, with all the other Jarhead militants still fighting over the ruined city. He wasn't safe to be around. Especially with the girl and boy here. He watched her carefully take the boy down the ladder. She'd have made a brilliant mother he thought. He shook his head. Sarah would have too. He told himself mentally to shut up and followed the girl down the ladder. "I'm up for a run to the town after the horde moves on!" He called out to Sean, eager to busy himself, and take the thought off of the girl and his daughter.

Jason watched Lachlan move down the ladder carefully, and after he had reached the bottom, Jason followed him down, immediately asphyxiated slightly by the Spores. He coughed once, but after that, he was able to adapt to the low amount of Oxygen. He took a look around. This place definitely wasn't big, but it was secure. "A run into town would be a good idea, but one of us should stay here with the kids. I'm sure neither of you want that to be me, and I don't want it being Lachlan, so how about me and you, Lachlan, head into town and get some supplies while Sean keeps a eye out?"

He looked toward Jason and thought it over a moment. "May aswell, the horde would have been off chasing the burning helicopter by now, let's head out before it gets too dark."

"Sounds like a plan" Jason said, and he began gathering his things. He saw Carter looking at him, terrified, trusting Jason more than Sean and wanting him to stay. "Don't worry, I'll be back, I promise" he said with a smile. He then began the ascend up the ladder, Lachlan behind him. When they got to the surface, Jason closed the hatch and said "We need to figure out how to trust each other. You agree?"

Lachlan inhaled slowly, "I know you know I don't trust you, but we are all bad people. Noone is left unaffected by this, not even the boy. If we meet someone I don't want you to kill them outright. We all deserve a chance, even you." Lachlan extended one of his huge hands toward the man. He wanted to trust him, but it would take time. This would hopefully be a good start.

Jason didn't take the hand. Not yet. "I respect your want for compromise, I really do, I appreciate it, but I want you to understand why I do that, why I kill on sight. Why do you think I do it, Lachlan? For personal gain? For intimidation? Because I am insane?"

"Because you're afraid." He said, lowering his voice and taking his hand back. Useless prick. He started off on the track back to the town. He was sick of this. He was the kind of person who hurt people. He was the kind of person that let his daughter die.

Jason quickly outwalked Lachlan and stepped in front of him, and even though Lachlan was much bigger, Jason seemed like a brick wall, and though Lachlan had a good 3 inches on Jason, Jason seemed to be looking down on Lachlan. "No, that's not why. I do it because I protect myself, my people, and my things. Let's make a deal here -- if they come with a gun raised at any of us, they die, but at any other time, they live. What do you think?"

Lachlan could tell he was trying to intimidate him. The man was built solidly. His muscles strained from his neck. Lachlan was not in the mood for a fight so he simply did a mock salute and said "Yes sir!"

"Don't give me that shit, man, let's be mature here. I need to know that there will be no problems from you if we abide that deal." Jason said, and he was starting to get angry. Why was this motherfucker being so difficult? Didn't he want to finish this discussion as much as Jason did?

Lachlan thrust a finger in his face. "Look mate, I don't know who you think you are running around all macho and killing people left and right but that's not how it works. Noone deserves to be killed without a chance. Thats what the dead do, not us." Lachlan was fuming. The apocalypse had given him a temper, it didn't help that he seemed much like the man who let a zombie get his daughter, so he could escape.

Jason grabbed the finger and threw his left fist into Lachlan's wrist, sending it right, while Jason wrenched the finger upwards, breaking Lachlan's middle Phalanx and causing significant pain to any man, no matter how big or how small, and this it did. Lachlan fell to the floor, yelling in pain. "That IS how the world works, Lachlan! I've seen shit, man, ans I've survived since the day this began by killing! Every person I've come across up until now has shot at me or put a gun to my face, and I don't enjoy killing them, Lachlan! I do it to survive! Not to be fucking macho or be the fucking Alpha Male! Do you get that?" Jason barked. "Quit being so naive! Quit pretending this is everyday life! You got to do shit you don't want to do in this world now! I have adapted, and you need to as well!" Lachlan's finger was beginning to swell, badly.

Lachlan stood up. His finger was ruined. He was dizzy. "I never tried to shoot you, or hurt you or hit you or nothin. She told me we can't do that to eachother. Do you understand? You could kill me right here and now, break every bone in my body and leave me to the dead I don't care! You weren't made to survive, you were made to be part of something. This can't just be the end, ot doesn't work like that. If you wanna keep on killin thats fine, but someday someones gonna act on you the way you just acted on me, and you are gonna wish with all the bloody soul you had left that they hesitated and let you explain yourself." At this point Lachlan was so angry and mad and upset he was growling. He failed to see Jasons motive. How could anyone be so willing to kill? "You and I, we need eachother, cos no matter what happens you can't survive this alone, we've all been hurt boy. But the way we act on those things is what matters. If you kill someone out there it's on your hands, cos I ain't killin shit thats still alive. I don't want to fight around these kids, hell I don't wanna fight at all. Are you with me?" This time Lachlan stood tall and strong and looked into the mans eyes. He outstretched his left hand slowly and waited to recieve the handshake he hoped the man would give. He was right, they needed to trust eachother. This was his best attempt at trusting anyone since he lost her.

"You need to fix that attitude, man. You can't think like that, that you won't kill another human being. It's just impossible. That's how the world is now, and you need to understand that. But for now, just don't get in my way, and understand why I do the things I do" Jason said, and he grabbed Lachlan's meaty palm in his right hand, shaking tightly and briefly. "And call me Jay, not boy"

(I have such an idea to force Lachlan to kill a human. Something straight out of The Walking Dead Game)

Lachlan smiled at him, "Okay Jay, I will follow your lead." Lachlan gained a new level of respect for Jason. He understood that sometimes it was them or him but being a family man Lachlan used killing as an absolute last resort. It upset him greatly.

(Love the idea, spring it on me when you're ready!)

"Great, man. Speaking of lead, every group needs one. Who do you think should lead the group? To be honest, I think Sean is unreliable because of his insomnia, but that's just me. Me and Sean also have our quarrels, but we're friends in the end. What do you think?" Jason asked as he began to walk towards the Town.

"I don't know, the poor bastard never slept well before all this. I'm not surehow I feel about any particular one of us. I am not the most daring and brave man around, Sean is getting old and you may be a bit hasty." Lachlan laughed, looking down at his hand. It was gonna need a splint at some point. "I think we all have our pros and cons, maybe we can work together to carve some sort of a life out of this place. Those kids deserve a good easy life, but they arent gonna get it. I suppose you're the one that gets shit done, what do you think?"

"I suppose so. And....that nuclear fallout shelter, or whatever it is, isn't a permanent solution. Either the Military, the Rebels, or the Walkers are gonna find it and they will either arrest or kill us. We can't stay in one spot, unless, it's amazing and defendable and we had alot of people, like...a Prison with maybe 20 guys. Man, that would be amazing." Jason said as they walked towards Town.

Carter continued to stay put. Why was she still here? There had been no reason to. Because of these idiots, she was now stuck caring for the poor boy that she couldn't leave. He needed a motherly figure... Even if she was only 13. 'Ugh... Why did I stay? I told myself I'd leave but it hasn't worked out yet.' She thought, sighing. 'I really do need to leave. I started thinking that this was all a movie because of the trauma.' Carter clenched her machete. She had already made sure that the machete was pointed down, not towards Joey. She didn't know what to think about the other guy yet. He didn't seem to take a lot of thing seriously which bugged her quite a bit.

(Lachlan and Jason are going out for a run, Sean, Carter, and Joey are still in the Nuclear Shelter)

(Or, at least, supposed to be)
