Magic Abilities: WIP
Before Dagon was drafted into the military, he had studied magic thoroughly and planned to go to University, where he could continue his education and become a Psyker. However, upon receiving his draft notice those dreams were promptly crushed and scattered to the wind. Still, he did not give up on his studies.

Staff of Mikail:
A staff that seems to emit a sickly sweet scent and on occasion, a disconcerting smoking or popping sound. Though archaic in its looks, the staff is a cleverly disguised piece of tech.

This "staff" is an alchemical weapon and Dagon's pride and joy (though it is prone to the occasional malfunction). Upon close inspection, one would notice that the the base of the weapon is African Blackwood, surrounded by twice-tough glass. It's sounds delicate, but it is a rather durable construct.

Behind the glass, winding up the pole of Blackwood, is electrum filigree intricately etched with small runes. When used, these runes slowly burn away the filigree, and the staff will need to be "reloaded" after all uses have been burned up.

On the top of the staff is an incense brazier, in it, are several containment units for alchemical substances. These components can be compounded through a twisting mechanism on the grip of the staff. Then, using the electrum filigree, Dagon can morph and shape the reaction to his liking.

Personal Information
Personality:
Though Dagon has been through his fair share of pain, he refuses to let it show in public. There is a great and terrible, aching sadness stored inside, but with practice, the professor has found he can control it to some degree. Like a tame animal, it is kept in chains, buried far below blood and bone. Of course, a beast needs to feed, and there are times when the terrible pain is released. Alcohol keeps it at bay for longer periods, but there is only so much liquor one can drink without killing them self. So the pain bubbles up to the surface sometimes. Dagon only allows this to happen when he is in private. It’s not good for others to see him when he is in a bad way

Now that being said, when not drunk or depressed, the professor is actually a rather enjoyable man to be around. Dagon is always quick to greet with a smile, as the man is truly a kind and gentle soul. He appreciates the company of others, and thus far has relished in his teaching. Though his methods may seem... strange, at times, he gets results many others have failed to do in the past.

History:

Forty years of life and I am finally a man.

It was not a title that had been bestowed upon me one day – as many think it is – but rather, something I had to realize for myself. Still, that's a rather misleading way to put it, as it was not quite that simple either. You see, I did not merely wake up one day, only to find that I was feeling exceedingly virile, that would be ridiculous. I had undergone a slow transition, from boyhood to manhood, one that took me years. Even so, where did that transition begin? Some might argue it was when I saw my fist dead body, one of dad’s farmhands who had crumpled to the ground from heat stroke. Alternatively, it could have been when I graduated high school with dreams of college, only to have them crushed by a draft notice. Then again, it might have occurred when I attempted to swim Lake Michigan to flee from both my country and the military, only to nearly drown in freezing waters…
But no, these things are not what made me a man. Perhaps all of these things contributed, but not a single one of them on their own made me a man.

To truly understand who I am today, you need to understand one simple detail. This is not a war we can win, not really. I have been there, on the front lines. I have seen men and woman torn to pieces by writhing masses of muscle and tentacle, voracious jaws snapping with sick delight. I have seen soldiers lose loved ones on the battlefield, only to be gutted in the midst of their mourning, their choked whimpers drowned out by the rotten smacking lips of the Rot. Yet, while all these things are appalling in their own right, what they refuse to tell you is that these horrors do not vanish once you're back on base. Soldiers who come back from the front lines are broken, dejected people. I once had a bunkmate – back when I was nineteen and it was still my first year among the dogs – who decided he would rather die than go back to the front. It was the middle of the night and I could not sleep. Neither could my bunkmate. He stuffed the barrel of a 9mm in his mouth and pulled the trigger. His head absorbed most of the sound, but I still remember the rattle of teeth falling to the ground beside me, I remember the gun clattering to the floor a bullet lighter and most of all I remember the sound of brains and blood slopping out of his mouth and onto the cool cement. I did not move and I did not react. This was natural.

What happened to my bunkmate, God rest his soul, was not unusual. I recall, it was not too long before the MPs came knocking on our door to collect and confiscate all weapons.

“What the hell are you doing?” Private Kimberly had asked, clearly agitated by the sudden intrusion. He was my new bunkmate. He did not know what had happened.

“We’re removing any objects or items that might become hazardous or potentially life threatening to you or your Bunkie.” I remember the placid expression on the woman's face when she spoke. I remember that the MP had said it so causally I almost laughed. It had probably been the fiftieth time that day someone had asked her the question.

When the woman left our quarters, her bag loaded up with our weapons, Private Kimberly just starred at the door with those big dumb eyes of his, clearly confused. He reminded me of a small puppy sometimes, fresh off the farm, unknowing of how bad things had become. I put my hand on his shoulder after a couple minutes and directed his gaze to the bloodstain on the floor, next to our bunk. His face went white as a sheet. He understood then.

About a week later, the MPs came around once again, this time removing any cleaning chemicals we had. Rope or parachute cord was next to go, razors locked up shortly after that, and electric outlets plastered over in a month. However, it was not too long before the MPs stopped coming altogether. I think after people started hanging themselves with their own bedsheets, and the base commanders realized they could not confiscate those, they just gave up.

We were a wreck, back then. Granted, we still kind of are, but things are getting better. The vampires and the humans have set aside their differences, finally.

Will it be enough though? I hope to God it will be.

Growing up in a small rural community in Kansas, the Rot and the war seemed so far away, and yet still, I remember, I would pray every night for those poor soldiers who tirelessly fought on the front lines, their M16s releasing a fog of bullets at mind numbing abominations...

I still pray of course, but now those poor soldiers are my friends and I. I just hope to God that there is some young child out there still praying for us. I doubt I would have made it as far as I have without the graces of God and all his angles. I pray every night for my family too. They are far away, but they still live. I pray they stay safe. I pray for those fishermen who pulled me out of Lake Michigan, back when I was drafted. I pray for the choice they gave me, and the kindness in their souls. I pray that one day I'll have the strength to put down the bottle.

Still, praying can only get one so far. There are times when a man has to do some good on his own. I guess that’s why I’ve joined the Vanguard. My hope lies in the palms of the boys and girls entering the academy, so I hope they do right by me...

Forty years of life and I am finally a man...

It could be because of the horrors I have seen, or the lives I have saved, or the friends I have lost, maybe even for the man I shot and killed in cold blood...
But no, these things are not what made me a man. Perhaps all of these things contributed, but not a single one of them on their own made me a man. I am a man because I’m finally taking responsibility. Because I’m finally doing something.

-Not entirely book smart. Doesn’t know the difference between a nucleus and an electron even if they were hitting her in the face. Curiously and ironically shows more expertise in the literary area.

Frey thinks of herself as an exceedingly simple lady without much brains to spare, and a lot of brawn to give, and that’s why she shuts up and listens as a self-assigned rule. She does not speak much, oftentimes grunting in response instead or just uses curt and simple answers befitting her. She regards many others as much more learned than her, for good reason, and shows an abject resignation to that fact, never actually speaking up when it comes to intellectual discussions. She reserves her own opinions to herself, and only nods along to anyone who does speak up and shares the same thoughts as she does with regards to a subject.

Frey’s psychological state is not a mad labyrinth as Freud would suggest.

Frey is morally good, and is a helpful lady wherever she can assist. She is a practicing Catholic and a law-abiding citizen for the most part, but is willing to bend rules and theological teachings if it goes against personal beliefs, morals, or just pure common sense. She likes what her tastes regards as ‘good’ and dislikes what is ‘bad’. She smiles rarely, but frowns just as much, her expression set in an emotionless, stoic line wherever she goes. It is not that she doesn’t feel- she does. It is just that it is difficult for her to show it. That, as well as the fact that she was brought up to brave the pains of the world unflinchingly by the only father she knew. She is willing to engage in conversation, but her limited knowledge of anything past literature usually results in a one-sided discussion.

There is not much else to Freyja Wionne. She would have been a plain face in the crowd, if it weren't for her remarkable physical bulk.

History
Freyja Wionne probably never knew her parents. If she did, she does a good job of never mentioning them. Instead, she grew up under the care of a man named Yevgeny Guilman. Yevgeny never told her of how she came under his care, and she never asked. She was not an inquisitive child, preferring instead to do what she supposed she was meant to do. She helped around the small apartment that Yevgeny owned, learned how to cook, clean, and do the laundry alongside the old man.

She made her own cash on the side during her teenage years, and more or less told Yevgeny to stop helping her with her expenses. She worked, at first, at a mover’s firm, a part-timer. Her considerable height allowed her to slip under the radar despite being underage. During her free time, she read literary works while training her muscles to further ease her work. She quit school at an early age, at about 15 years old, and continued to work at various moving firms. She later took on a job as security detail for clubs and events, picking up substantial knowledge on how to restrict and restrain dangerous personnel, and how to break several bones if it came to it.

A vampire was taken over by their inner Beast during one of her shifts. It was the worst tussle she had gotten into. She had been shot before, burned, and cut by rowdy lots, but she had never gone against something as brutal and powerful as another vampire lost to their Frenzy. She earned at least twice her amount of scars on that night, but would go on to be mentioned as the one lass barely out of high school who wrestled a Frenzied vampire to a standstill. She would never forget the event herself, and the scars were an eternal reminder of the threat that loomed within her and all the others

Yevgeny later died when she was 19, leaving her alone. There were few people who came to his funeral. Those who did come speak of how this giant of a lady, her countenance as solid as rock, bore tears, but did not cry or wail. There were no eulogies, only a quiet prayer by the Padre (Yevgeny was a Catholic), and a silent burial in a sunny June afternoon.

She packed her bags after six months, and signed several papers to rent out the empty apartment. She later quit her job after finding tenants for her recently vacated home, and signed on for the Vanguard program, for both her sake and the sake of the world at large. It just felt like the right thing to do.

Sure, we fight the Rot. Night and day we worry about our partners and ourselves and if we're going to make it whenever we're left with our thoughts. Everyone glorifies putting yourself in danger to protect others. Great.

Daily Attire: There's nothing Willow hates more than bulky clothing. She wears a lot of jumpsuits made of spandex and other stretchy materials. Leggins and loose fitting t-shirts are her comfort clothing as well. When it comes time to armor she sacrifices her mobility for safety even though she'd actually rather not.

-The girl can't pack a punch to save her life and so she has to lean back on her magic and agility. She's focused on some fighting styles if it ever comes down to actual combat, but it mostly consists of dodging and then giving out a small punishment with a knee or elbow. Of course, against the Rot it's completely useless except she can dodge some attacks.
-Give her a dagger and she'll wield it with ease. It becomes an extension of her and fits perfectly with her style of attack.
-Simple locks take no effort to pick open and she's started going after more difficult ones and getting them open as well.

Personal Information
Personality: Willow would be one of the wild party girls if the Rot had never existed and caused such seriousness to cross the land. She's a creative soul that refuses to be crushed by the vexations and horrors of the world around her. She's adaptable to most situations and changes based on the people around her. She's a pusher and therefore loves getting people out of their comfort zones. She sometimes gets really quiet and distant and can't get coaxed out of it. She usually gets solitary during these times and gets angry when bothered.

History
Willow was a single child born into a rather poor family in a small town. Her mother was a shell of herself most of the time due to some past horrific events that left her scarred mentally and physically and didn't even remember to take care of the newborn after her birth, forcing her father to ask their neighbors to watch the child when he went to work in the coal mines. Their neighbors were an old couple who had lived in the town for as long as anyone could remember. They were pretty reclusive and Willow's father was surprised they even answered his knocks on the door and plee to take care of Willow.

The old couple were pretty quiet and reserved but Willow saw them as her grandparents and loved them. The woman was called Norra and made the best treats whenever she could scrape enough money to buy sugar and flour. The man was called Vennin and he made tiny sculptures out of any material lying on the ground. They were small and intricate and sold for very little since most people were worried about getting by than decorating their mantles.Vennin gave her one when she was a child and she kept it for many years. it was a tree but had long dropping branches decorated with leaves. It was as big as her hand and every leaf had immaculate details. She had never seen a tree like it which was because the trees around town were regular oaks or had been cut down to build shelters and such. Vennin said the tree was her namesake, which she found pretty odd. Why would her parents name her after such an odd-looking tree? She asked her this question to father who was covered in coal dust at supper and he gave her a small smile. It was the kind of smile someone expressed when the topic carried long-forgotten memories that replayed images of good times.

Her father had grown up before the Rot had emerged and so had her mother. The two were the same age and had grown up in a city that had fallen many years ago. The two had been neighbors and their parents were friends which meant the two spent quite the amount of time together. Willow's mother, Ana, was taller and fiercer than a spit cracker and had Willow's dad head-over-heels as little boys tend to do. They fought as toddlers and fought as pre-teens and ignored each other through the last half of middle school. Ana was always with friends at parties and Willow's father, Jacob, was always training for football. He was on the football field at school and sew Ana's father's car pull up in the parking lot across the street, the Winter Formal party blasting music as she stepped out of her car with her date. He used his anger to train harder.
That summer brought dark clouds. Ana's mother was killed in a car crash and so she retreated into her house. Jacob finally got over himself and knocked on her door for the first time in years. He was invited in by her somber father and entered the familiar house that had the feeling of sadness radiating from the very butterscotch painted walls. They ended up climbing on the roof from her bedroom window and talking. Lost time was remembered and laughed over as the sun sunk lower. He returned to his house with a feeling as if 50 pounds had been taken off his chest. They started talking and hanging out over the summer and they visited Ana's mother's grave. Ana claimed she felt better after that. They had their first kiss under the willow tree in her backyard which was their favorite place beside the roof to talk. (Willow laughed at this part since she could have easily been named Roof). The Rot came when they were 16 and they fled the city soon after due to attacks at the city limit. They were separated for two years but found each other at a refugee camp. They mourned their parents who they felt were most likely dead and moved on. They joined small parties that tried fighting the Rot but Ana got injured after getting dragged off by a small one after lagging behind the group. Jacob heard her shouts and fended the beast off. Ana was crying and shaking and passed out from blood loss. The doctor who patched her up said it was a miracle she lived but she was in shock and had damage mentally. She was a ghost of her former self but Jacob never gave up on her. It turned out she was pregnant and the fetus hadn't been harmed, unlike its mother. Willow was born and her father swore when Ana looked at her, there was recognition and familiarity. She said her name was Willow. She hadn't spoken since the accident.
Willow didn't remember her mother all to well since she died when she was four but she still felt sad about her loss since it was mother.

Her father looked sadder after the story and Willow gave him a reassuring smile and a peck on the cheek as well as her mother who hadn't stopped staring at the wall. She ran to her room and gave the figurine a kiss on its leaves as well.

Willow witnessed Vennin using animation magic when she was 10. She had crept into his study to find paper to draw on when she heard his footsteps and darted in the closet since the couple didn't like her going into their room. He went to his desk and pulled out a blob of clay.
It took a short moment to make some kind of animal and he placed it on his desk before tapping it. Willow nearly yelled when the figure started moving. It moved around for a few moments before standing still once more.
Vennin repeated this process a few more times with different creatures he made before placing them in a bag and leaving, presumably off to try to sell them.

Of course, Willow was intrigued.

She questioned Vennin on it as soon as he came home later that day. He hadn't managed to sell any of the creatures he made, so he took them and sat them down on the kitchen table. Vennin thought it would be something the girl would be interested in for a short period then move on to other things, so he just explained what magic he was using in a way the younger one would understand and animated one of the creatures and sent her off home when her father got back from work. He was surprised to see her back on his porch the next day and the days after that.

She was still pretty young to understand the actual magic, so he started off with letting her imagination kick in. Willow barely knew about animals besides cats and dogs, so Vennin got out books dealing with mythical and real animals. He didn't just show pictures, he gave information on them as well which seemed to help Willow remember. He made visual aids with clay and other materials which were especially helpful with the mythical animals. Willow started drawing her own fantastical beasts made up of combinations of animals that Vennin animated and showed the flaws in body proportions and movement that Willow would have to find a solution for. They stayed on that part for a long time before moving onto materials and compositions as well as other things when Willow got older and went into middle school. It reminded her of science class which was her favorite so she didn't mind the long lessons Vennin hosted after she got out of school and sometimes on the weekend. If Willow got stuck on something Vennin never let her quit. Norra made snacks for the two on nights such as those before retiring to bed. Willow usually passed out as soon as she finally figured out a problem and Vennin would let her sleep on the couch and notify her dad so he wouldn't worry.

Willow started noticing Vennin was running out of things to teach yet refused to let her even attempt magic. Vennin avoided the question for a while but Willow was wearing him down.

Vennin sat her down and told her about the Vanguard. He had been in it for a while when he was younger and had been quite talented until he was almost fatally injured and sent home with a medal. He spoke as if he had seen all the horrors in the world and Willow could sense it. Vennin helped Willow learn about the magic but didn't want her actually doing it since it might pave her a path to the Vanguard, but if she wanted to learn magic he'd do his best no matter what she chose to do with it.

Vennin started off with transmutation which was the hardest thing Willow experienced even though she was familiar with what needed to be done. She struggled with actually using mana and understanding the concept of it even existing, but Vennin was patient as always. Construction and animation was easier and more fun to Willow and it took her less time to understand it since she took an artistic approach to it. Vennin had her start off with clay and shape it without magic before trying to make a replica with magic on another piece of clay. He did what he used to do when she was little and animated the creation she made with magic to see if it was functional.

Willow's lessons continued throughout high school and Vennin grew distraught when he saw her interest in the Vanguard. She felt like she needed to help others and it was the same drive that led Vennin to join those many years ago as well. He fulfilled his promise and didn't try to talk her out of it or stop her. She packed a few items and said goodbye to Vennin, Norra, and her father before making her way to the train station.

The fantasy she had built in her head was pretty much crushed. She saw things she wished she could erase from her mind entirely and her nerves were shot. She had a partner for nearly two years who was basically her soulmate. Willow was a mess when her partner was killed and nearly died herself cradling the girl's dead body and had to be dragged away by her unit. Willow refused another partner for a long time until she clicked with another girl and allowed herself to Blood Link with her.

Willow has a lot of regrets about joining the Vanguard and often wishes she could run away and ignore the Rot and everything else. The thought that reels her back in is she needs to protect the small family she has back at home.

Two buttons are located on the bottom, where the upper one activates or deactivates the saws, and the bottom one increases the frequency and strength of the saws. The weapon is devastating and powerful, but it requires close-range and fuel to continually run the saws.
Bola Gun: A handgun that fires bolas which trap the target. The primary usage is to detain others and limit movement. It also can fire standard pistol bullets.
Protective Wear: An undergarment wear that guards against attacks. It covers Rusk's body from his neck to his toes. It's light due to its magical core, which can be replenished, or empowered with magic. When the user, or wear weakens to 0 percent efficiency, the core turns to liquid, and the wear becomes useless.

History

A talented sorceress named Junk the Animator birthed Rusk into the world. She named her son J2, meaning JJ; however, due to her history as an Animator, and her being an only mother, she treated J2 like a typical animation. J2 was expected to cater her mother's every needs, once he reached the age of six. Thus, he became Junk's complete, obedient servant, until he met Eythie.

J2's age was twelve when he discovered Eythie, a girl who he found in the woods, outside of mother's Animating studies. Just this once, he disobeyed his mother, and played with the girl. Unfortunately, Eythie was a vampire, and Junk's goal was to eliminate any vampires. Fearing the loss of his playmate, J2 turned on his own mother, but he wasn't successful, as both the girl was killed, and J2 was badly injured, but not anything fatal. Then, Junk abandoned her son, placing a curse to ensure J2 would die, but she misspoke the words, and she didn't realize her mistake for several weeks.

J2 survived the incident thanks to the help of a Rot Hunter. Under the tutelage and care of the Rot Hunter, J2 became known as Rusk, a Rot Hunter trainee. During this time, he realized his mother's curse was quite powerful, and it caused him to slip on any banana peels, if he were to accidentally step on one. Under the hunter's care, Rusk attended school, where he studied extra due to his lack of an education in his youth. When Rusk turned eighteen, the Rot Hunter took Rusk to the Vanguard Academy. It was there, Rusk would leave his mentor, and obtain a sense of truth. However, since Rusk had a traumatized past, he never made friends under the Rot Hunter, as he feared his mother would strike at any time.

Extra Notes: Eythie was a lost vampire, who's parents were killed by the Rot. Rusk noticed the sad girl, and played with her in order to cheer her up, since he too was lonely. The Rot Hunter helped Rusk, because he's actually Rusk's father, which won't be revealed to Rusk until later.

Personality: Unlike the typical loser nerd, Mason is as engaged and extroverted as he is intelligent. He likes being around others and learning about them and their lives. Regardless, he is friendly and seems to recover quickly when he slips up in social situations. Going along with that, he doesn't like confrontation and backs down when intimidated; but he won't refrain from mumbling snarky, passive-aggressive complaints.

History: Mason was an accident to his parents, born well over ten years after his older brother, Ray. Regardless, he was loved and cherished as the baby of the family as he grew up, making him relatively sheltered and spoiled compared to his brother. Even as a small child, he had a knack for putting things together: building blocks, Legos, log cabins, etc. He liked to build and create new things. His father owns an autoshop, which is where he spent a lot of his childhood, learning about cars and how they work.

When he was still a child, his brother was recruited to fight against the Rot. When his brother died doing so, however, the family was devastated. Mason's parents grew even more protective over him. He fought against the grief in his own way, however, and dove into his studies as he grew. His grades, projects, and volunteer work throughout middle school and high school would earn him multiple awards and scholarships. His intelligence and book smarts was attention grabbing, to say the least, and through it he realized he wanted to wanted to help make the world a better place.

What he understood to be because of his achievements, he was approached by a vampire named Reiner toward the end of his high school career. He learned from him that Ray had been his partner when he was killed in action. He hadn't been approached because of his success, but rather because of something much more personal: after losing his brother, Reiner had wanted a new partner in Mason. Surprised and shocked by the news--especially from a vampire--Mason took some time warming up to the idea. Eventually, though, he decided that if he could be grow to be what his brother had wanted to be--a defender against the Rot--he could make the world a better place. Surprising his parents, he left for the academy straight out of high school.

His ultimate fear is living a life without Hanako. She is one of the greatest parts of his life, and a future without her is one that's not worth living for him.
History - Born into the Kamiya family. Akihiro's duty, destined from birth, was to be a loyal guardian of the Yamada clan. This progressive family pioneered Human-Vampire relations in Japan through active cooperation with the Yamada clan over two centuries ago. By becoming their guardians and hit men, the Kamiya family greatly strengthened the grip that the Yamada family had over the criminal underworld of Japan. Akihiro's birth was the result of a closely knit relationship with humanity being a thin blood vampire.

From an early age, Akihiro was trained in the martial arts and was groomed to become a warrior for the Yamada clan. Compared to his other family members he was the runt of the pack, severely lacking in pure strength that his median vampires brothers and sisters had. He was close to quitting until one day he met the daughter of Gin Yamada, Hanako. The two became close friends over time. The two played with each other and created a close bond that could not easily be broken over the years.

Through her friendship, Akihiro was inspired to train harder to overcome the obstacles that stood in his way. Over time he proved to be the deadliest warrior of his generation as his indomitable nimbleness and speed made him difficult to fight against. In addition to this, his close bonds with Hanako grounded him in reality on top of his thinblooded-ness made it so that he rarely ever lost control of his senses and fell into a beast state, even when pushing himself to his blood consuming limits. Because of this important relatioship, Akihiro was deisgnated to become Hanako's personal guard by Gin Yamada.

Now Akihiro heads to the Academy with Hanako to continue his service as her guard as well as become a student in the art of war to combat the threat of The Rot.

Plasma cannon- this one man cannon produces its own ammunition at the rear port. By creating a small magnetic field, the cannon can supercharge the gas trapped inside and condense it,creating a round of temporarily stabilized plasma,roughly the size of a baseball. Then,using a similar form of magnetism in the comparable railgun, launches the round at high speeds. On impact with a solid, the round detonates, melting and shredding its target. The energy needed to do all of this is generated in the weapon itself, but unfortunantly,it takes time to recharge. The fire rate at peak,is 2 rounds per minute. Rounds have been known to detonate prematurely,however this is rare.
Rounds wil not detonate if they have not traveled a minimum of 10 yards.
The weapon itself is rather heavy, weight at a total of 134 lbs. For most it is optimally used while stationary.

Staff of Mikail:
A staff that seems to emit a sickly sweet scent and on occasion, a disconcerting smoking or popping sound. Though archaic in its looks, the staff is a cleverly disguised piece of tech.

This "staff" is an alchemical weapon and Dagon's pride and joy (though it is prone to the occasional malfunction). Upon close inspection, one would notice that the the base of the weapon is African Blackwood, surrounded by twice-tough glass. It's sounds delicate, but it is a rather durable construct.

Behind the glass, winding up the pole of Blackwood, is electrum filigree intricately etched with small runes. When used, these runes slowly burn away the filigree, and the staff will need to be "reloaded" after all uses have been burned up.

On the top of the staff is an incense brazier, in it, are several containment units for alchemical substances. These components can be compounded through a twisting mechanism on the grip of the staff. Then, using the electrum filigree, Dagon can morph and shape the reaction to his liking.

Personality:
Though Dagon has been through his fair share of pain, he refuses to let it show in public. There is a great and terrible, aching sadness stored inside, but with practice, the professor has found he can control it to some degree. Like a tame animal, it is kept in chains, buried far below blood and bone. Of course, a beast needs to feed, and there are times when the terrible pain is released. Alcohol keeps it at bay for longer periods, but there is only so much liquor one can drink without killing them self. So the pain bubbles up to the surface sometimes. Dagon only allows this to happen when he is in private. It’s not good for others to see him when he is in a bad way

Now that being said, when not drunk or depressed, the professor is actually a rather enjoyable man to be around. Dagon is always quick to greet with a smile, as the man is truly a kind and gentle soul. He appreciates the company of others, and thus far has relished in his teaching. Though his methods may seem... strange, at times, he gets results many others have failed to do in the past.

History:

Forty years of life and I am finally a man.

It was not a title that had been bestowed upon me one day – as many think it is – but rather, something I had to realize for myself. Still, that's a rather misleading way to put it, as it was not quite that simple either. You see, I did not merely wake up one day, only to find that I was feeling exceedingly virile, that would be ridiculous. I had undergone a slow transition, from boyhood to manhood, one that took me years. Even so, where did that transition begin? Some might argue it was when I saw my fist dead body, one of dad’s farmhands who had crumpled to the ground from heat stroke. Alternatively, it could have been when I graduated high school with dreams of college, only to have them crushed by a draft notice. Then again, it might have occurred when I attempted to swim Lake Michigan to flee from both my country and the military, only to nearly drown in freezing waters…
But no, these things are not what made me a man. Perhaps all of these things contributed, but not a single one of them on their own made me a man.

To truly understand who I am today, you need to understand one simple detail. This is not a war we can win, not really. I have been there, on the front lines. I have seen men and woman torn to pieces by writhing masses of muscle and tentacle, voracious jaws snapping with sick delight. I have seen soldiers lose loved ones on the battlefield, only to be gutted in the midst of their mourning, their choked whimpers drowned out by the rotten smacking lips of the Rot. Yet, while all these things are appalling in their own right, what they refuse to tell you is that these horrors do not vanish once you're back on base. Soldiers who come back from the front lines are broken, dejected people. I once had a bunkmate – back when I was nineteen and it was still my first year among the dogs – who decided he would rather die than go back to the front. It was the middle of the night and I could not sleep. Neither could my bunkmate. He stuffed the barrel of a 9mm in his mouth and pulled the trigger. His head absorbed most of the sound, but I still remember the rattle of teeth falling to the ground beside me, I remember the gun clattering to the floor a bullet lighter and most of all I remember the sound of brains and blood slopping out of his mouth and onto the cool cement. I did not move and I did not react. This was natural.

What happened to my bunkmate, God rest his soul, was not unusual. I recall, it was not too long before the MPs came knocking on our door to collect and confiscate all weapons.

“What the hell are you doing?” Private Kimberly had asked, clearly agitated by the sudden intrusion. He was my new bunkmate. He did not know what had happened.

“We’re removing any objects or items that might become hazardous or potentially life threatening to you or your Bunkie.” I remember the placid expression on the woman's face when she spoke. I remember that the MP had said it so causally I almost laughed. It had probably been the fiftieth time that day someone had asked her the question.

When the woman left our quarters, her bag loaded up with our weapons, Private Kimberly just starred at the door with those big dumb eyes of his, clearly confused. He reminded me of a small puppy sometimes, fresh off the farm, unknowing of how bad things had become. I put my hand on his shoulder after a couple minutes and directed his gaze to the bloodstain on the floor, next to our bunk. His face went white as a sheet. He understood then.

About a week later, the MPs came around once again, this time removing any cleaning chemicals we had. Rope or parachute cord was next to go, razors locked up shortly after that, and electric outlets plastered over in a month. However, it was not too long before the MPs stopped coming altogether. I think after people started hanging themselves with their own bedsheets, and the base commanders realized they could not confiscate those, they just gave up.

We were a wreck, back then. Granted, we still kind of are, but things are getting better. The vampires and the humans have set aside their differences, finally.

Will it be enough though? I hope to God it will be.

Growing up in a small rural community in Kansas, the Rot and the war seemed so far away, and yet still, I remember, I would pray every night for those poor soldiers who tirelessly fought on the front lines, their M16s releasing a fog of bullets at mind numbing abominations...

I still pray of course, but now those poor soldiers are my friends and I. I just hope to God that there is some young child out there still praying for us. I doubt I would have made it as far as I have without the graces of God and all his angles. I pray every night for my family too. They are far away, but they still live. I pray they stay safe. I pray for those fishermen who pulled me out of Lake Michigan, back when I was drafted. I pray for the choice they gave me, and the kindness in their souls. I pray that one day I'll have the strength to put down the bottle.

Still, praying can only get one so far. There are times when a man has to do some good on his own. I guess that’s why I’ve joined the Vanguard. My hope lies in the palms of the boys and girls entering the academy, so I hope they do right by me...

Forty years of life and I am finally a man...

It could be because of the horrors I have seen, or the lives I have saved, or the friends I have lost, maybe even for the man I shot and killed in cold blood...
But no, these things are not what made me a man. Perhaps all of these things contributed, but not a single one of them on their own made me a man. I am a man because I’m finally taking responsibility. Because I’m finally doing something.

Frey thinks of herself as an exceedingly simple lady without much brains to spare, and a lot of brawn to give, and that’s why she shuts up and listens as a self-assigned rule. She does not speak much, oftentimes grunting in response instead or just uses curt and simple answers befitting her. She regards many others as much more learned than her, for good reason, and shows an abject resignation to that fact, never actually speaking up when it comes to intellectual discussions. She reserves her own opinions to herself, and only nods along to anyone who does speak up and shares the same thoughts as she does with regards to a subject.

Frey’s psychological state is not a mad labyrinth as Freud would suggest.

Frey is morally good, and is a helpful lady wherever she can assist. She is a practicing Catholic and a law-abiding citizen for the most part, but is willing to bend rules and theological teachings if it goes against personal beliefs, morals, or just pure common sense. She likes what her tastes regards as ‘good’ and dislikes what is ‘bad’. She smiles rarely, but frowns just as much, her expression set in an emotionless, stoic line wherever she goes. It is not that she doesn’t feel- she does. It is just that it is difficult for her to show it. That, as well as the fact that she was brought up to brave the pains of the world with unflinchingly by the only father she knew. She is willing to engage in conversation, but her limited knowledge of anything past literature usually results in a one-sided discussion.

There is not much else to Freyja Wionne. She would have been a plain face in the crowd, if it weren't for her remarkable physical bulk.

History
Freyja Wionne probably never knew her parents. If she did, she does a good job of never mentioning them. Instead, she grew up under the care of a man named Yevgeny Guilman. Yevgeny never told her of how she came under his care, and she never asked. She was not an inquisitive child, preferring instead to do what she supposed she was meant to do. She helped around the small apartment that Yevgeny owned, learned how to cook, clean, and do the laundry alongside the old man.

She made her own cash on the side during her teenage years, and more or less told Yevgeny to stop helping her with her expenses. She worked, at first, at a mover’s firm, a part-timer. Her considerable height allowed her to slip under the radar despite being underage. During her free time, she read literary works while training her muscles to further ease her work. She quit school at an early age, at about 15 years old, and continued to work at various moving firms. She later took on a job as security detail for clubs and events, picking up substantial knowledge on how to restrict and restrain dangerous personnel, and how to break several bones if it came to it.

A vampire taken over by their inner Beast during one of her shifts. It was the worst tussle she had gotten into. She had been shot before, burned, and cut by rowdy lots, but she had never gone against something as brutal and powerful as another vampire lost to their Frenzy. She earned at least twice her amount of scars on that night, but would go on to be mentioned as the one lass barely out of high school who wrestled a Frenzied vampire to a standstill. She would never forget the event herself, and the scars were an eternal reminder of the threat that loomed within her and all the others

Yevgeny later died when she was 19, leaving her alone. There were few people who came to his funeral. Those who did come speak of how this giant of a lady, her countenance as solid as rock, bore tears, but did not cry or wail. There were no eulogies, only a quiet prayer by the Padre (Yevgeny was a Catholic), and a silent burial in a sunny June afternoon.

She packed her bags after six months, and signed several papers to rent out the empty apartment. She later quit her job after finding tenants for her recently vacated home, and signed on for the Vanguard program, for both her sake and the sake of the world at large. It just felt like the right thing to do.

Chainsaw Vibroblade: The weapon resembles a lengthy blade with saws at the end of one of its sides. Two buttons are located on the bottom, where the upper one activates or deactivates the saws, and the bottom one increases the frequency and strength of the saws. The weapon is devastating and powerful, but it requires close-range and fuel to continually run the saws.
Bola Gun: A handgun that fires bolas which trap the target. The primary usage is to detain others and limit movement. It also can fire standard pistol bullets.
Protective Wear: An undergarment wear that guards against attacks. It covers Rusk's body from his neck to his toes. It's light due to its magical core, which can be replenished, or empowered with magic. When the user, or wear weakens to 0 percent efficiency, the core turns to liquid, and the wear becomes useless.

History

A talented sorceress named Junk the Animator birthed Rusk into the world. She named her son J2, meaning JJ; however, due to her history as an Animator, and her being an only mother, she treated J2 like a typical animation. J2 was expected to cater her mother's every needs, once he reached the age of six. Thus, he became Junk's complete, obedient servant, until he met Eythie.

J2's age was twelve when he discovered Eythie, a girl who he found in the woods, outside of mother's Animating studies. Just this once, he disobeyed his mother, and played with the girl. Unfortunately, Eythie was a vampire, and Junk's goal was to eliminate any vampires. Fearing the loss of his playmate, J2 turned on his own mother, but he wasn't successful, as both the girl was killed, and J2 was badly injured, but not anything fatal. Then, Junk abandoned her son, placing a curse to ensure J2 would die, but she misspoke the words, and she didn't realize her mistake for several weeks.

J2 survived the incident thanks to the help of a Rot Hunter. Under the tutelage and care of the Rot Hunter, J2 became known as Rusk, a Rot Hunter trainee. During this time, he realized his mother's curse was quite powerful, and it caused him to slip on any banana peels, if he were to accidentally step on one. Under the hunter's care, Rusk attended school, where he studied extra due to his lack of an education in his youth. When Rusk turned eighteen, the Rot Hunter took Rusk to the Vanguard Academy. It was there, Rusk would leave his mentor, and obtain a sense of truth. However, since Rusk had a traumatized past, he never made friends under the Rot Hunter, as he feared his mother would strike at any time.

Extra Notes: Eythie was a lost vampire, who's parents were killed by the Rot. Rusk noticed the sad girl, and played with her in order to cheer her up, since he too was lonely. The Rot Hunter helped Rusk, because he's actually Rusk's father, which won't be revealed to Rusk until later.

Stamina and Mana are not the same thing. Draining mana makes you tired but there isnt much you can do physically to stop that drain. Though being physically fit could make your mana pool larger because you are healthier overall.

Her skin is pale, though not sickly--she just doesn't like going outside. Her skin seems free of blemishes or scars, and she has no piercings or tattoos to speak of. Most people are quick to notice her hair: it is very long--falling to her waist--and dyed pastel blue. It's usually maintained in a long, loose braid or low tied ponytail.

Weaknesses:
- Lazy. Despite her skill, Mira is rather lazy and undedicated to the cause. Her potential doesn't really get used because of this.
- Uncharismatic. Mira has a pretty face, but she is rather plain and difficult to talk to. While she comes off as polite to pureblood vampires, anyone else may find her rather curt.
- Ranged combat. She has no clue how to gun.​

Personality: Mira comes off as rather quiet and serious. Once you get to know her...that doesn't really change. However, she is a woman of action rather than words. She prefers to express her loyalty or friendship physically or through material goods. As a result, she can be rather generous if she warms up to you. On the flip side, those she dislikes get none of the love. Instead, she can be surprisingly snarky and rude if you make a bad impression with her. Mira has a rather dry sense of humor--some would say she doesn't have one at all--and it's difficult to make her smile.

Dislikes: Parties, books, "hands off" education, dishonesty and disloyalty.

History: Despite its namesake, the Kingston family has been in service to a highly prestigious pureblood family, known for their red eyes and drinking extensive amounts of blood. The history cites an affair between a pureblood heir and a Kingston human. Rather than the usual punishment for such a crime, the Kingston line would become one with the pureblood's in servitude. Humans of the Kingston family risk being fed on and the Median vampires are expected to fill servant or bodyguard roles. The archaic relationship between the families has grown with modern times, of course, and Kingstons--while impure--are expected to be just as educated and well bred as their pureblood lords. Some seem to think the Kingstons are freer in the modern age, enjoying the luxury of the pureblood family's but with more choice in companionship. Others are appalled and view it as modern day slavery.

With the rise of The Rot, the two families saw it was necessary to take part in the world's affairs without shedding human blood. However, most of the cowardly purebloods wouldn't risk their own safety, and members of the Kingstons were encouraged to engage in the world's fight against the Rot in some way. The Kingston humans would engage in politics as representatives of the pureblood family. Median and thinblood Kingstons have shown a tendency to learn combat and medical technqiues useful in the field against the rot--though often these skills are wasted when they return home, acting as a private defense force for the pureblood family.

And so, enter Mira: she was born to a Kingston vampire and human couple, standard for a Kingston. She was raised learning the history but seemingly indfifferent to it and complacent with her position under purebloods. There are a few unique features that come with this sleek and unique blade, this first of which being it's energy absorption. By activating this feature, the user can absorb a certain type of energy, and build up the gauge (which is measured in the hilt) before releasing it. Depending on the energy selected, the release will have different effects.
Effects:
- Kinetic Energy: This energy is built up by the blades movement, sapping away at the kinetics produced when swinging through the air. That being the case, by absorbing the kinetic energy involved in a swing or stab, the weapon becomes more difficult to maneuver with. However, upon release, the sword is propelled by its stored energy, causing it to rocket forward with maximum force for a devastating blow. Humans would most likely struggle to hold on to the weapon when releasing the stored energy.
- Electrical Energy: This energy is built up when the blade is exposed to sources of electrical energy. Once enough is stored the energy can be released in a crippling blast of plasma. This release is hard to control, and while a potent attack, if not used properly the blast could cause some serious damage to not only the user, but their allies.
- Radiant Energy: This energy is built up when the blade is exposed to light. It takes a lot of light to fill up the gauge, a process that could take hours, but once the energy is released the blade emits a harsh flash of bright white light. If the user isn't careful, they can wind up blinding thereself or their teammates.
-Thermal Energy: This energy is built up when the blade is exposed to thermal energy. It slowly drains the heat from it's area, and fills faster when exposed to hotter areas, such as an open fire. Once the gauge is filled and released, the blade emits a blast of super charged heat all at once, or if released slowly, the blade becomes super heated.

Julia Valois is the oldest child of a gendarme and an upcoming pâtissier in a small sleepy village in Northern France. With her parents being busy with their work, the task of raising her younger brother Jules fell into her hands. Life was idyllic and calm with no rush to grow up. All that changed one day when the Rot came. Julia still has nightmares of that day. A stormy day as the foul creatures breached the walls and flooded into the village. In the chaos, Julia lost track of her younger brother and became separated. She prayed for a miracle, for him to be safe but life was cruel.


Put it simply, he never made it. So what is a sad, angry, impressionable 16 year old girl supposed to do at a time like that? Mope? Or maybe she'll join the people who saved the survivors? To answer that question, she joined the Vanguard. So began her trainee days in the Vanguard. Thing went well for the first two or so years. She made friends, got paired up with an obnoxious median vampire named Axel Lorenz, honed her magical skill among other things. Life was hectic compared to the quieter life she had but it helped give her a purpose.

Fast forward a decade and things seemed to be on the up and up. Julia had risen in rank with the rest of her squad. Her relationship with Axel had progressed from comrade in arms to a lover sharing her dream of starting up a bakery. Things were truly looking bright. But it seems fate is cruel to Julia. It was supposed to be a simple patrol, highest risk being a Class C at most. So when a Class B happily showed up, panic ensued. They fought their hardest to take it down but would you guessed it, almost everyone died that day. Everyone except for either the luckiest or unlickiest mage in the Squad, Julia.

The whole incident traumatised Julia and rendered her totally numb to her surroundings. It took almost an entire year's worth of therapy to bring a sense of normalcy back to her life. Seeing as how she's not willing to return to the field anytime soon, Julia signed up for the Instructor course. Now as an instructor, Julia teaches the new batch of Vanguard trainees in the art of spellcasting and combat. With her own little twists here and there.

- Reluctance to fight/kill human or vampire combatants - Due to past trauma, mostly involving her duel with Yuuki, Hanako has trouble bringing herself to fight other people. In the case that a comrade goes rogue (ie a vampire going into a Frenzy) she is very much helpless in that kind of situation as it becomes nearly impossible for her to draw her sword let alone elect to fight against a friend.
- Sleep Deprivation/Insomnia - Also related to her duel with Yuuki, most nights of sleep are ruined by memories of the duel and being haunted by the mangled ghost of her sister. These nightmares cause her to be less rested than others 60-80% of the time, reducing her effective mana regeneration.

Personality: She is cold for the most part, distancing herself from others because she neither trusts people nor herself around others. Tending to stick away from crowds and staying close to people she is familiar with. However, things were not always this way, prior to her fight with Yuuki, Hanako was very dedicated, passionate, and fiery about her life. Prideful to the point of hubris because of her achievements and family heritage.

History: Hanako's life began 17 years ago in a room within the Yamada castle. She was one of a pair of fraternal twins belonging to the heads of the Yamada clan, Gin and his late wife Reiko, who died in childbirth due to severe unforeseen complications. The Yamada clan were a wealthy family known for their dealings in the criminal underworld. Hanako and her sister, Yuuki, began life in blissful ignorance of their family's dreadful occupation.

However that veil of innocence would be broken just as quickly as erected when the two sisters began going to school. Having an escort was a dead giveaway, but more importantly every teacher and student seemed scared of them or acted differently around them. As Hanako tried to make friends, she realized that her family's name always tread before her, ruining any meaningful friendship she could make. One vampire boy, two years her senior, changed her grim look on life, the vampire's name, Kamiya Akihiro. Around him, she felt comfortable being herself as he did not care about trying to make sure to please her every whim or be afraid of having their family killed for hurting her. Akihiro was Hanako's first real friend because of his genuine care for her.

As the year's passed, Hanako began to understand her duty as the heiress of the Yamada household. She dedicated herself to everything she did and pushed herself to her limits to fulfill her destiny. Excelling in academics, practicing the martial arts day in and day out, and learning the ways of a mage were part of her daily routine for eight years leading up to her 16th birthday. However this was not the way of her sister, her sister enjoyed the luxuries of the family's wealth. Yuuki slacked off in her classes, getting only passing marks in traditional academia and skipping out on lectures the mages in the family would give. Her only redeeming factor was that she was naturally more physically gifted and much more capable in the martial arts like Kenjutsu and Kenpo. Despite Yuuki's truant nature, Gin would show her an over abundant amount of grace because Yuuki was becoming a spitting image of her mother. Meanwhile, Hanako would be scolded or even beat for anything less than perfect, and this caused the girl to envy her sister and plot against her.

One day she overheard a conversation between Yuuki and some of her friends and found out that she had no intention of carrying on the family business. should even go as far as join the police to fight against the Yamada clan. Enfuriated, Hanako revealed her sister's plans to her father, and in turn he was enraged that his precious daughter would dare to think about betraying the family. So that night, both sisters were called into the dojo, and Gin ordered Hanako to strike down her sister. Hanako did as she was told, but Yuuki and rebelled and drew out a sword of her own. The ensuing skirmish was ferocious, displaying each sister's strength in magic and combat. While the battle was heavily in favor of Yuuki, Hanako came on top and dealt what seemed to be a fatal blow to Yuuki.

Realizing the extent of her actions, Hanako became full of remorse. Her vengeance filled campaign against Yuuki ended in her taking the life of someone that she also loved dearly. The girl wanted to atone for her sins and found the perfect option. Hanako soon applied to the Academy with a new goal to become a vanguard of humanity in the fight against The Rot, knowing she would either die and be at peace with herself or live to the end knowing she did something right for the world.

Distant and slow to warm up to people, Emily's preferred scenario is to be alone with a good book. Around large groups of people she often feels quite anxious due to the fact that she has never truly learned how to socialize with others, though she still tries. Because of this she often avoids crowds and social situations and doesn't make many friends, and when she does make friends she is very prone to becoming dependent on them. Confidence is something she sorely lacks leading to her being very tentative to show off her skills to others.

In combat, Emily uses her increased mobility and perception for a rather hit and run type of fighting style, she sticks to the shadows carefully considering her next move before springing out to strike a critical blow and then retreats to prepare another attack. Her abilities allow her to have a decent level of control over a battlefield, making her able to determine where she is needed and be there quickly move in to support her team. Emily was born to a small family consisting of her mother, father, and brother, the four of them lived easily together as both parents worked good jobs allowing them to afford a nice home with quite a few comforts. She did well in school though her social life was always lacking, she usually just stuck around with her older brother, Idris, for companionship. The two of them together had a very competitive relationship often challenging each other about things like grades, the winner being granted bragging rights. They had fun together and helped each other out when they were in need, and still found time to bicker like true siblings.

For the longest time they lived like this, the two of them were the best of friends and were rarely seen apart. But as the two of them grew older they began to grow apart as Idris found his own group of friends and slowly started to drift away from her. Emily didn't take very well to this, and struggled to find other friends which meant she spent a lot of her free time alone, this was where she turned to reading for her escapism, the local library becoming a sort of safe haven for her. At first she enjoyed the escapism of fantasy novels, but then she took interest in the non fiction side books, taking great enjoyment in learning how the world works.

After exhausting most of the library's contents Emily eventually stumbled upon the history of the rot and the creation of the vanguard academies. She became almost instantly interested in the academy seeing the vanguards as great heroes protecting the common people from the rot! It became a dream of hers to be accepted into their ranks. Her families initial reaction was apprehensive, but they were accepting of her choice and after months of hard work and determination she was accepted to the academy.

-ManaBlade: Idris channels his mana into the form of a weapon, usually a sword. The more mana he channels into the weapon the larger and more complex it can be.

-Magic Missiles: with some concentration Idris can fire pure mana to deal damage to enemies, one missile does not do much on it's own but by channeling more mana to the spell Idris can fire more missiles at once to deal massive damage.

The SL13 handgun is a common vanguards answer to when mana runs low, with a magazine of 6 .45mm explosive rounds the SL13 can do moderate damage at range and proves to be a very effective sidearm when fighting rot.

Personality

Laid back and friendly, Idris has an easy time meeting new people and making friends, his naturally calm demeanor tends to radiate throughout the room. Pacifistic in nature, he dislikes unnecessary conflict and will do his best to solve problems with others in a peaceful way. Idris likes to help people, and can generally be found tutoring other students and helping with work, he's a very strong believe in the phrase "no man left behind" and in combat he will go to great lengths to always be the last one out of a fight. He's a good student towards the classes he enjoys, classes on the arcane namely, though the ones he finds uninteresting often suffer. In social situations Idris loves to see people smile, often quick with a joke or interesting little tidbit about magic. He tends to prod at people to find out their interests as he loves to hear people talk about things they enjoy.

In combat Idris uses his barrier magic to protect himself and his team while he faces the opponent head on. He will usually try to keep the opponents attention while the rest of his team attacks from the flank or at range, this way he minimizes the damage that his teammates take, though of course this means he leaves himself open to take all of the hits himself.

History
Idris is the older sibling to Emily, and in their early childhood the two of them shared a strong bond with one another. Unfortunately for the two of them they began to grow apart in their teens as Idris began to take his studies more seriously and found a group of friends. Idris quickly found himself engrossed in the study of the arcane, Aether magic to be specific. He was very intrigued by the possibilities that the field allowed and felt that the manipulation of pure mana could lead to great advancements in the field of engineering and technology. Because of this he studied the subject deeply with the intent of attending higher education to learn more about this interesting subject. He would have done it too! The boy was smart and determined with a deep interest in the subject matter.

All of this took a back seat though when he heard that his sister was applying to the vanguard academy, at first he tried everything in his power to get her to reconsider, to him the idea seemed like suicide! and he pleaded with her not to go. But Emily was already set on the idea and there was no way she would be convinced otherwise. So he was forced to do the only thing he could to protect his own flesh and blood, he dropped everything and put in his own application to the academy. Together the two of them trained in order to hone their natural abilities. Idris himself took a liking to the versatility of manipulating mana to be his weapon, he taught himself to fight with a wide variety of melee weapons in order to shape his mana to fit the situation, creating his own spell ManaBlade.

They were a team, Idris kept the two on a strict workout regiment and trained his sister in melee combat while Emily studied the rot and the blood link as well as how to use her consumed blood to enhance her physical traits. With both of their efforts combined they passed the entrance exams and were accepted into the academy.

- Athletic - Having trained in the martial arts for a good portion of her life, Hanako is above average physically compared to other girls her age.
- Intellectual - Excelling in both her studies as a student and as a mage, Hanako has some depth in her knowledge of the world and the functions of magic. Hanako can also quickly learn what she has to as well.​
Weaknesses
- Reluctance to fight/kill human or vampire combatants - Due to past trauma, mostly involving her duel with Yuuki, Hanako has trouble bringing herself to fight other people. In the case that a comrade goes rogue (ie a vampire going into a Frenzy) she is very much helpless in that kind of situation as it becomes nearly impossible for her to draw her sword let alone elect to fight against a friend.
- Sleep Deprivation/Insomnia - Also related to her duel with Yuuki, most nights of sleep are ruined by memories of the duel and being haunted by the mangled ghost of her sister. These nightmares cause her to be less rested than others 60-80% of the time, reducing her effective mana regeneration.

Personality: She is cold for the most part, distancing herself from others because she neither trusts people nor herself around others. Tending to stick away from crowds and staying close to people she is familiar with. However, things were not always this way, prior to her fight with Yuuki, Hanako was very dedicated, passionate, and fiery about her life. Prideful to the point of hubris because of her achievements and family heritage.

History: Hanako's life began 17 years ago in a room within the Yamada castle. She was one of a pair of fraternal twins belonging to the heads of the Yamada clan, Gin and his late wife Reiko, who died in childbirth due to severe unforeseen complications. The Yamada clan were a wealthy family known for their dealings in the criminal underworld. Hanako and her sister, Yuuki, began life in blissful ignorance of their family's dreadful occupation.

However that veil of innocence would be broken just as quickly as erected when the two sisters began going to school. Having an escort was a dead giveaway, but more importantly every teacher and student seemed scared of them or acted differently around them. As Hanako tried to make friends, she realized that her family's name always tread before her, ruining any meaningful friendship she could make. One vampire boy, two years her senior, changed her grim look on life, the vampire's name, Kamiya Akihiro. Around him, she felt comfortable being herself as he did not care about trying to make sure to please her every whim or be afraid of having their family killed for hurting her. Akihiro was Hanako's first real friend because of his genuine care for her.

As the year's passed, Hanako began to understand her duty as the heiress of the Yamada household. She dedicated herself to everything she did and pushed herself to her limits to fulfill her destiny. Excelling in academics, practicing the martial arts day in and day out, and learning the ways of a mage were part of her daily routine for eight years leading up to her 16th birthday. However this was not the way of her sister, her sister enjoyed the luxuries of the family's wealth. Yuuki slacked off in her classes, getting only passing marks in traditional academia and skipping out on lectures the mages in the family would give. Her only redeeming factor was that she was naturally more physically gifted and much more capable in the martial arts like Kenjutsu and Kenpo. Despite Yuuki's truant nature, Gin would show her an over abundant amount of grace because Yuuki was becoming a spitting image of her mother. Meanwhile, Hanako would be scolded or even beat for anything less than perfect, and this caused the girl to envy her sister and plot against her.

One day she overheard a conversation between Yuuki and some of her friends and found out that she had no intention of carrying on the family business. should even go as far as join the police to fight against the Yamada clan. Enfuriated, Hanako revealed her sister's plans to her father, and in turn he was enraged that his precious daughter would dare to think about betraying the family. So that night, both sisters were called into the dojo, and Gin ordered Hanako to strike down her sister. Hanako did as she was told, but Yuuki and rebelled and drew out a sword of her own. The ensuing skirmish was ferocious, displaying each sister's strength in magic and combat. While the battle was heavily in favor of Yuuki, Hanako came on top and dealt what seemed to be a fatal blow to Yuuki.

Realizing the extent of her actions, Hanako became full of remorse. Her vengeance filled campaign against Yuuki ended in her taking the life of someone that she also loved dearly. The girl wanted to atone for her sins and found the perfect option. Hanako soon applied to the Academy with a new goal to become a vanguard of humanity in the fight against The Rot, knowing she would either die and be at peace with herself or live to the end knowing she did something right for the world.
Sounds good for the most part. However, no matter how much of a quick starter she is, she cant know Psi and Arcane fam. Stick to one or the other

FN Mako PDP - A pistol developed by FN meant for personal defense. Chambered in the new 6.6mm AP round, it can punch through body armour and tough hide with ease but with poor stopping power. Accurate shots to a target's vitals are needed.

M88C Gungnir - A shoulder mounted magnetic railgun. Firing fragmenting shells at Mach 6, the weapon doesn't just punch through enemies as much as it obliterates parts of it. Due to its weight and power usage, only 10 rounds are available per mission. The scope can be linked directly to a helmet HUD or used as a traditional scope.

Hudson Mk.I Mana Booster - A wrist mounted device that serves more as a personal mana battery than an actual booster. Can be charged with mana from either ambient sources or from a mage for storage. Not as effective as the Russian Dog13 but it works.

Strengths:
+Field knowledge - Her time on the field has given her experiences that can't be taught from a book. She uses it to enhance her lessons and survival chances in the field.
+Veteran's intuition - Being a survivor of many outings and missions, Julia has developed heighted awareness of her surroundings. This makes it rather difficult to sneak up to her but its not as potent as vampire senses.
+Cheery outlook - Her almost constant good mood and friendly behavior is calming to most people. Makes her great with kids.
+Completed Vanguard training - Julia is well versed in spellcasting, runecrafting, marksmanship, hand to hand combat, and field survival. She also survived her partner's massive ego.

Weaknesses:
-Depression and PTSD - Having seen the deaths of her partner and people she knew personally, Julia is suffering from depression. Although she hides it well, it does surface on certain days. Currently on medication for it.
-Night terrors - Julia's sleep is plagued by reoccurring nightmares. It gets worse on certain days to the point that her mood is noticably sour the next morning.
-Self-blame - Julia's depression is linked to her blaming herself for her the death of her partner and the rest of her squad. This adds a lot of emotional baggage for Julia and she occasionally struggles with it.
-Neglects own health - Julia would busy herself with helping others to the point that her own health would take a steep dive. She's known by the staff to overwork herself to exhaustion on some occasions.

Personality:
Julia Valois, the Smiling Mage. That nickname of hers pretty much covers her outward personality. Kind, a little motherly, always giving advice, and showing a warm, friendly smile to those around her. A beacon of warmth among the usually cold and detached veterans she works with. Well, she has to be right? No one is that good of an actress after all.

The answer to that is both yes and maybe. Julia had always been the cheery type. The one who goes around making sure everyone is feeling chipper and keeping people's spirits up. She does genuinely care about other people but the huge loss of her partner and squad had left a dark wound in her psyche.

Deep down, Julia is a self-loathing and bitter person. She blames herself for their deaths and is only putting up the cheery facade as a coping mechanism. Much like a little wind-up doll going through the motions while keeping her true feelings hidden deep within.

History:
Julia Valois is the oldest child of a gendarme and an upcoming pâtissier in a small sleepy village in Northern France. With her parents being busy with their work, the task of raising her younger brother Jules fell into her hands. Life was idyllic and calm with no rush to grow up. All that changed one day when the Rot came. Julia still has nightmares of that day. A stormy day as the foul creatures breached the walls and flooded into the village. In the chaos, Julia lost track of her younger brother and became separated. She prayed for a miracle, for him to be safe but life was cruel.


Put it simply, he never made it. So what is a sad, angry, impressionable 16 year old girl supposed to do at a time like that? Mope? Or maybe she'll join the people who saved the survivors? To answer that question, she joined the Vanguard. So began her trainee days in the Vanguard. Thing went well for the first two or so years. She made friends, got paired up with an obnoxious median vampire named Axel Lorenz, honed her magical skill among other things. Life was hectic compared to the quieter life she had but it helped give her a purpose.

Fast forward a decade and things seemed to be on the up and up. Julia had risen in rank with the rest of her squad. Her relationship with Axel had progressed from comrade in arms to a lover sharing her dream of starting up a bakery. Things were truly looking bright. But it seems fate is cruel to Julia. It was supposed to be a simple patrol, highest risk being a Class C at most. So when a Class B happily showed up, panic ensued. They fought their hardest to take it down but would you guessed it, almost everyone died that day. Everyone except for either the luckiest or unlickiest mage in the Squad, Julia.

The whole incident traumatised Julia and rendered her totally numb to her surroundings. It took almost an entire year's worth of therapy to bring a sense of normalcy back to her life. Seeing as how she's not willing to return to the field anytime soon, Julia signed up for the Instructor course. Now as an instructor, Julia teaches the new batch of Vanguard trainees in the art of spellcasting and combat. With her own little twists here and there.
