Fantasy Unnatural Academy

"Faster, boy!" the man in black yelled, swinging a rib bone at Osto. Osto brought up a rib of his own, blocking it, and then swung a leg bone, aiming at the man in black. The man in black leaned back, avoiding the blow easily then leapt into the air. He land behind Osto, and twirled around. A bone club was held in his hand.

Osto was dreaming. There was no other word for it. He was a mess. All he was had fallen apart. The bone mage, Jessie, the school, everything....it was too much. Now, he was unlocking things he had never seen before. Memories. Or a dream. He wasn't sure at all. Both, maybe? He didn't know. Osto was a mess. He hadn't been prepared at all.

Osto collapsed under the blow of the the leg bone against his back. He fell to the ground. He covered his head with both arms, and curled into a ball. He sniffled, and began having trouble breathing. He was heaving. Hot tears rolled down his cheeks. Then he felt a hand on his back. He curled even further into a ball. "I failed, master," Osto said, "I failed again. I will never defeat you. I'm weak. I'm-" Osto was silenced by a slap to the face. He yelped. His master was leaning in close. Osto now realized that he had finally remembered his master's old bone mask. Not something that was grown. Something he had made from hand. He sighed, scooped Osto up in his arms, and began walking. The next thing Osto knew, he was in a small bed, tucked under the covers. His master was sitting in a chair next to the bed. He had something in his hands. It looked like a large block. He was staring at Osto intently. Then he stood up, and walked over to him, standing over the bed.

Osto woke up. He was breathing heavily. He looked around his room. He thought over what he should be doing. Classes didn't start for a while. That was good. He needed to get into human society. He needed to learn more about it. He had been away for far to long. He looked around. There was one other person in the room with Osto. Maybe I should ask Jessie? That idea died as soon as he had it. That would be a bad idea. After what happened....He could ask Joe or Amelia to come with him. He thought about it, then had an idea. Yes, he liked this idea. He spoke.

"
Joe," Osto said, "I think I might need your help with learning about human society." Osto then realized that Joe was gone. Where did he go?

Mikkish being himself, he could be expected to try hitting on all the girls on campus. Surprisingly, however, he decided to try exploring the city first, to see where the local clubs and bars were.

Slung over his shoulder was a long, black jacket. He had tried wearing it after he got it, but the heat and humidity on the island just made it easier to carry it himself. A man in his late thirties approached him earlier, right after he left the school, and tried to talk to Mikkish about joining a group called the Brotherhood of Baphomet. It was a religious group, apparently, and seemed more like a cult being that they had to wear these black jackets with the sigil of baphomet on them. He had been given a pamphlet also, and maybe Mikkish would read it later. Eventually...at some point...

As he was walking down the sidewalk, enjoying the sunshine and the sites, he spotted one of the guys who had been on the boat with him. In fact, it was his roommate. One of them.

On his sheet for his room, it had the names Mikkish (of course), Osto (who he already met), Joe, and Gerald.

"Hey Gerald," Mikkish said to Joe as he walked up "So what happened with those crazy bitches and the boner guy?"

"Um... my name's Joe..." I corrected him, I was looking around anxiously, I had been here for a little bit, but I hadn't seen hide nor hair of my roommate. "Um... he didn't show up, or well, hasn't shown up yet." I rubbed the back of my head.

"Pfft, yeah no surprise there. Come on, dude, you didn't really think he was gonna get out and they were actually gonna fight?" Mikkish said, wondering just how retarded Osto was, and if Joe would turn out to be as big of a freakin weirdo.

But before Joe could answer the question, a frustrated looking old man came stomping out of the police station, mumbling to himself

"Dang police station...erm...'Brotherhood of Baphomet'...'Christian Magi'....my ass...."

He looked like he was going to continue storming off, but he was too upset, apparently. The old man grabbed the jacket Mikkish was carrying, snatched it off his shoulder, and dropped it to the ground.

"Hey, what are you...mad cuz you're old? Dick don't work anymore or something?" Mikkish said, irritated by the old man's sudden asshole move.

The old man turned around and looked at both Mikkish hand Joe as if he was about to curse them out, but then his face relaxed.

"Oh...you're new..." The man said, picking up the jacket, dusting it off, and handing it back to Mikkish "Here, you can look into them all you want, but I assure you, you want nothing to do with them."

Mikkish snatched back his jacket

"I sense that you are newcomers to the island. I saw about the fight on the news. Tell me, do either of you know what that fight was all about?"

"Um... well, we were actually in the center of it, and we were attacked in the process. It appeared to be between two groups, they didn't really say exactly why they were angry with one another. I think it was due to religious differences, at least that's what I overheard one of the police saying. It's a shame that everyone has to be so decided over a matter of belief, and even turn to violence and drag innocent people that have nothing to do with it into the middle." I rubbed the back of my head. "I'm sorry if one of your friends or relatives got caught up in it and then mistakenly jailed for it as well." I bowed apologetically.

The old man seemed pleasantly surprised by Joe's response

"Why yes. One of our own, a bone mage, got caught in the crossfire. He is now being held. We are trying to negotiate getting him out, but the city seems adamant about sending him off to prison."

"So, it looked like a classic 'emo vs prep' scenario." Mikkish commented, ignoring what he said about his buddy being in jail.

"Kid, those emos, as you have probably figured out, are the Brotherhood of Baphomet. The whole philosophy behind them is that their natural instinct is their best instinct, and to destroy their bodies over basic desires. The Christian Magi were the other group in the fight. Surely you have heard of Christ and that whole story. These Christian Magi, however, are just like the Brotherhood of Baphomet, and are only different in the name of their deity, their symbol, and their style. I am with the Children of Stardust. I don't want to waste any more time of yours than I need to. Here..." The old man reached into his pocket, and pulled out a small book "I only have one, but surely you two can share."

Mikkish slowly grabbed the book

"So, if you don't mind my asking, how are you planning to get him out?"

"Well, we have inside men in the legal system here. Problem is, so do the others. The Christian Magi are the wealthiest here on the island. He will be spending time in prison for sure. But if we could break him out..."

Mikkish snorted "Why can't you? You have inside men. Why not just have them break him out?"

The old man didn't seem against the idea "As you might read in the book, we can twist the rules, but if we outright break the law, we risk plunging into a hole of negativity. And we must try and avoid hurting too many people, committing crimes, or...making ourselves impure. Having our inside men sneak him out might break their journey to alignment with the universe."

Mikkish paused for a moment. This man really sounded a bit crazy, as did the concept of this religion.

"You two probably haven't decided to commit to any group yet. Would you be interested in helping us out. Maybe making a little money?"

Mikkish smiled "How much are we talkin?"

"I want to stay out of this business if I can. I don't want to harm anyone, or break any laws. If I want to make money, I shall do it through legal channels and with my own skills, I am sorry." I bowed politely and turned to Mikkish. "Let's go Mikkish, please, it isn't wise to get involved in this. I can already tell it's going to be something dangerous and possibly in either a very dark legal gray area, or just plain in the black."

Osto sat up off the bed, and thought about what he should do. That dream he had....He needed to learn more. There could be a way to do it. But.....

Osto ignored the other boy in the room. Instead, he would he have to see Jessie. After what happened, he felt he should apologize. He walked over to her room, and pushed the door open. Jessie was lying on a bed. She looked to be asleep. He cleared his throat.

"Jessie," he began, "I'm sorry for what happened earlier. It seems that I have...spent too much time away from society. I felt overwhelmed by it all."

He wondered if he had waken her.

Jessy flinched and the two metal spheres she had been levitating flew over to Otso and spun around his head slowly as she tensed and sat up startled and seeing it was Otsi she quickly rolled and swung her legs over the side of the bed as some of her hair fell in her face

" Sorry Um....you startled me....what did you say? " she asked and nervously messed with the hem of her shirt twirling her finger around in the cloth and letting it go multiple times before remembering the spheres they dropped as she let them go

Osto sallowed hard. He was beginning to have second thoughts. "I wanted to apologize for my behaviour eariler. I haven't been around other people for a while. So, I wasn't sure what I should do. I guess I overreacted." He took a deep breath.

"I think I might need to be reintroduced to the world. I would like it if you could help me. I know it might be asking much. But I think I do need some help." Osto was happy to that off his chest. He looked at the floor. He had one more thing to say.

"Also," he continued, "I need your telepathic abilites for something. Assuming you do have that. You do have telekinetic abilites, so I assuming you do."

Jessy blinked and relaxed slightly she got up and walked over to him retreating the metal orbs she stood up straight again and looked up at him " I guess I could help...but it depends on what you want to learn " she said and what you need my abilities for... She added her voice echoed in his mind, from the angle he was at and how her shirt was a bit 'revealing' it was fairly easy to spot what was down her shirt...but she didn't seem to notice as she rotated the orbs on her hand waiting for his reply

Osto gulped. Jessie was kinda revealing in a....certain area. He restrained himself from looking, having only gotten a brief glimpse. He needed her help for this. "Well," he began, "I would say that I need help mainly in learning social skills. How I should behave around other men and women, what I should and shouldn't do, how to interact with them, etc."

He took a deep breath this time, and stared into Jessie's eyes. Then closed them, and breathed out. He pushed past her, and entered her room, rubbing his hands on his head. This next task was going to be more difficult. He tilted his head back, and stared at the ceiling. He lowered his head slowly, and then turned to look at Jessie.

"I need your telepathic abilities for something else entirely though." Osto said, "You see, some years ago, about four I believe, I awoke in a hospital bed. I was sweating, and had a fever. I knew almost nothing. All I knew were three things: that I was a bone mage, that I knew how to use bone magic, and my name."

Osto sat down on Jessie's bed. "I had no memory of what had happened before that time. Until that episode of mine." His hands were fidgeting about everywhere. He rubbed the bridge of his nose. "While I was looking at you," he continued, "I saw someone else. Someone else was in your place. It was a man dressed in a black cloak and hood. Bones were engraved all over his clothes. I didn't know who he was."

Osto closed his eyes. This would be the hard part. "Until he spoke. The words he said were something I haven't heard in years. And..." he cut off, unsure of how to tell her this part. He decided it was best to just let it all out. "And it was the Code of the Bone mages."

Jessy blinked when he went in and she adjusted er shirt and fixed her hair in a ponytail naturally before grabbing her jacket and tying it around her waist before making her way to her bed and sitting down curling her legs up under her criss cross

" OK so really you just need to relearn your life cause how to cat around people is kind of tied into that, but I guess I could show you a few things...first, you really should have asked before coming into a girls room " Jessy said and placed the orbs on her nightstand

Watching as he had trouble day ng a few things confused her a bit though she decided not to ask since it would only cause more tension

" Which would you rather start with memories or social skills " Jest asked and added to herself persinally, even though I'm technically not very social I know how to at least act around everyone else

Suddenly she had a new question one that had been bugging her for a bit " Why did you hug me? And hold my hand for so long? It was pretty embarassasing hence the fact we hardly know each other, I get it if your having 'strange urges' " she made air quotations and went on " but you should at least see if I'm OK with that " this got her thinkng again, am I really ok, with Otso and his...touching? I mean I've never even let anyone get that close, ever..., she awaited his reply

Amelia had returned to her room, seeing Osto lose his conviction. She blinked at the exchange between the old man and Mikkish, but saw no point in intervening. She returned to her room, silently and awkwardly waving to Jessy before returning to her studies. She read a little about social interactions, and was startled to see Osto coming into the room. She had moved on to her martial studies, leaving her books stacked on her head while cycling through techniques. Knife, leopard to the tricep, step through, arm lock and simultaneous elbow, grab shirt, kick out knee, drop arm, turn, look, and spinning hook kick. At the hook, the book fell off of her head and open to a page titled "Love and the Management Thereof." She bent down to hastily pick it up, and then, looking at the page, quickly compared it to the two in front of her. She couldn't stop her movement, however, and thus was doing a handstand. She smiled mischievously, and bookmarked the page for later. She brought herself down again, but froze as she heard the phrase about a code. Turning to them again, and realizing that they were now talking about etiquette, she stood once more, and sat on her bed, sitting up straight with her new notebook and textbook, and looking at Jessy intently, she realized that her room-mating with Jessy could be useful to her entry into the social world.

Osto blinked. "Oh, that," he said. He bit his lip. "I'm not sure what came over me. I am sorry about that. And about coming into your room." He thought over what he should do next, before nodding. He turned to Jessie. "I think I should do social skills first, then my memories. Is that alright with you?" He hoped it would be.

He noticed what Amelia had been doing with passing interest, but knew that she was listening in. "Maybe we should take this somewhere more private?" Osto asked Jessie. Then he had a thought. "Amelia," he asked her, "did you run into Mikkish at all?"

Jessy shrugged and got up grabbing a small bag she shoved in a notebook, pencil and the two metal orbs before walking over to the door and waiting for Otso lazily age took her hair down and tried to braid it just messing around while he talked with Amelia, her roomate

"Well..." She started, trying to remember the proper words. "I bumped into him in the hallway. Or rather, I saw an old man being really rude to him. They began to talk, something about a job, getting a Bone ma-crap." She recounted the tale accurately, and then felt her blood run cold. Wait. That bone mage? Argh, this would set him off, wouldn't it. She quickly checked a page on how to deal with it. "Be honest, but tactful." Turning to him, she finished it with, "It would seem that the bone mage with which we were attempting to communicate earlier has allies. Ones which intend to get him out of there. Possibly with the help of Mikkish." She mentally face-palmed, realizing the terrible forthrightness with which she had answered.

Osto felt his blood run cold. I knew it, he thought. I knew he wouldn't stay im jail for long. Osto sat up, and began walking. He turned over his shoulder at Amelia. "Thank you," he told her. As he left the room, however, he saw Jessie. He glanced at what she was doing with her hair. Odd, he thought. Does she need some help? Is there something wrong with her hair?

"Jessie," he said, reaching his hand up, "do you need help with your hair?" His hand brushed by hers. He drew it back. Oh for the love of god, he thought. At least I asked permission. Wait, could she be reading my thoughts?

Jessy hadn't noticed Otso till his hand had touched hers and she flinched dropping her hair she blinked " Um no...its fine " she quickly out her hair back in a ponytail and a blush krept up her cheeks, suddenly she could hear Otsos thoughts invading her mind since they where loud to her " your thinking is very loud " she blurted and then her face flushed pink and she shook her head taking a step back " Sorry I didn't mean to get in you head, your just standing so close while thinking, and I naturally pick up on it " she tried to make her blush go away " Sorry " she repeated and then walked out " Lets just go "

"Of course," Osto told.Jessie. He was conflicted. He now knew that the other bone mage would most likely break out of jail. But all the same, he needed to know more about human society in general. And he didn't want to worry Jessie. He liked her in a ponytail. It suited her. He ran his fingers through his own hair. He became self concious about his clothing. Just a jacket and pants. Not even a shirt. He would have to buy a shirt later.

He followed after Jessie. He thought of holding her hand, then decided against it. It might not work very well.

Nothing ever worked well for you, did it?

Osto almost froze. Where had that voice come from? Wait. His master. That had been his masters voice. He didn't want to alarm Jessie at all. But somehow, he had gained another memory. Or at least, a piece of one. He shrugged it off, and kept walking beside Jessie. He puckered his lips.

"So," he began, "where to first?"

Mikkish stepped closer to the old man "If there is good pay, I'm in. Just tell me what I will be doing."

The old man nodded Mikkish over further from the police station

"Meet me on Wednesday night. Outside the First Church of the Cosmos. It's only a short stroll down the street from the campus. We can discuss this further there" The old man whispered

Mikkish thought back to why him and Joe were even here to begin .

"Hey man, if someone else wants to come, can I invite them along?" Mikkish asked the old man

After a skeptical pause, the old man said "Sure. We need all the help we can get. I apologize again for my rude behavior."

After the old man walked away, Mikkish turned to Joe "I highly doubt we are actually going into the jail or prison or whatever. This isn't GTA. It's probably for a protest or something like that. Sure you don't want to come along?"

Jessy glanced to Otso and busted out laughing " Don't make that face...it makes you look weird " she had to pause and bend over supporting herself on her knees, suddenly she sucked in air through her nose while laughing and snorted blushing hard she covered her mought and nose.

Standing up straight she turned her head away till she had stopped laughig and her blush was at least halfway gone before looking to Otso and the image of his face popped back into her head and for the first time in forever she giggled " You know your funny, bet you didn't know that " she then kept walking with a sigh she stretched

"If it were for a protest, then he wouldn't need to pay us anything, he could just have his group protest. This is really sketchy, and he said that his followers couldn't bust out his follower because it would upset their spiritual balance. Meaning, he needs outsiders to do any sketchy work for him, because their balance doesn't mean anything because they're not believers, meaning, you, me, and anyone else that decides to tag along." I crossed my arms.

"Okay, so what if its a little shady? This is college, dude. We're not kids. You gotta stop being so afraid to break the rules." Mikkish honestly didn't understand what Joe was so afraid of. He figured Joe was probably just being a pussy.

"Anyway, he said they need all the help they can get, and I know Osto will want in on this, so I'm headed back to campus."
